The food here is always amazing. Sometimes the wait can be a little long, but it's worth it. I highly recommend the corn nuggets with ranch!

For the last couple of years, Grumps has been just another burger joint to me. But I keep noticing that the parking lot is always packed. So we ventured in yesterday. It was packed but we found a table. She warned us that they were so busy that the food would be slow. She was right, but that's OK. My Swiss mushroom burger was so good! The spicy fries with jalapeño ketchup were awesome! I don't drink much soda, but they have Dublin Root Beer, which I love! My two refills added way too many calories! If your not on the clock, they do have beer and margaritas. Oh, and don't forget the free peanuts while you wait on your food. Winner! So, I guess Grumps is back in our rotation, at least for a while. read more

Fast and friendly service. Ordered the bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. Both were delicious. Also liked the ranch dressing that came with the rings and the jalapeño ketchup brought to the table. Stopped in during happy hour and had one of the "coldest beers in Texas". :) Also had some iced tea and it was also good; not watered down so was just right over ice. OK. Let's start here...the Lady does not like burgers in a restaurant. I will not order a burger in any restaurant. But, my daughter and I do like little outbof the way places ans this place...it HIT! Best burger I have EVER had! It's taste like we cooked I on our grill. Not over done. Very medium well, juicy and the bacon has this wonderful spice kick! My daughter loves it and she does like burgers! 1 out of 10, we give it a solid 9! The onion rings were perfect. If you ace a no-frills burger, you deserve every good thing that comes your way. I live 3.5 hours away from Abilene and was literally passing through just to transport a dog to their new home and then drive back to DFW. I needed fuel for the long trek back and thought this place looked pretty good. I am now trying to see if it would be crazy to make the drive again literally just for this burger. The place was packed at lunch time on a Saturday. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and spicy fries. I waited 30 minutes and started to get kind of annoyed it was taking so long but I take EVERY BAD THOUGHT back as soon as I tasted the food. The burger was delicious. Everything tasted so fresh and it didn't leave me feeling gross and greasy like burgers tend to do. The "spicy" in the fries just means they're seasoned to the max with peppers. They also were extremely fresh, perfectly crisp, and I left no crumbs while I took my time enjoying them. If you live nearby and haven't been here, you are doing yourself a disservice. read more

I tried the cheese burger with onions and jalapeños. Twenty five minutes passed before getting my food. There was only a couple of people dining since lunch already passed (I came at 1:10). When my burger finally arrived It took me two minutes to eat the whole thing. I did not mind the wait after the first bite; it was delicious. We stopped in while we were in town visiting family. The reviews were positive, and the place didn't disappoint if you're looking for good basic burgers and sides. My wife raved about her chili cheeseburger which was so messy in a good way that she resorted to knife and fork. My Swiss mushroom burger was one of the best I can remember. Fries and onion rings were both a rung above standard fast food offerings. Very tasty and well prepared. They serve several beers and interesting-sounding adult beverages, and while we're not partakers I did enjoy the selection of Dublin soft drinks that are kind of a rare find. The front entry area was a little dirty, and the burgers while adequate weren't huge. Only these two factors hold me back from giving 5 stars. Went in about 8:15 for a quick order of deep fried jalapenos for a movie snack. I sat waiting for them to call my name when I looked at the front and saw my food sitting there. I watched as the counter boy stood talking to the cooks with his back turned to my food. I sat watching it get cold when I finally went up and asked if it was mine. He said yes. I took it and walked to my car when I realized they didnt give me the ranch I paid ectra for. I went back in and the boy tried to tell me he was putting it all in a bag when I came up. No he wasnt. Grumps is a small burger chain started about 15 years ago. They just recently opened at the old Pizza Hut building located on N. 1st near Westwood Dr. Atmosphere: a nicely done remodel of the old Pizza Hut I frequented with my family as a child. An elevated area near the front windows houses 3-4 tables. There is a long bar style table in the 2nd dining area with fixed stools that could fit a fair amount of people. The rest of the dining area is your usual tables and chairs. Lots of vintage decor around the dining rooms. 1 Star. Service: As u walk in there is a a handful of menus (sorry, I forgot to take a pic) in a cubby. It's a very simple menu with about 5-6 specialty burgers and 3-4 sandwiches. The staff was very friendly. Welcomed a couple of times while in line. The cashier was a pro. For a place that just opened she knew the register like the back of her hand. This made the long line move quite quickly. Food is brought out by a waitress calling your name and she is quick to ask if you need anything else for your meal. There is no true "wait staff,"-it is still a fast food joint-but the manager and at least one other staff member came by the table in the 30min we were there to make sure we were good and didn't need anything. 2 Stars Food: I'll just say it right off the bat, the food is nothing spectacular but it has some uniqueness to it that adds some "worth coming back to" properties. Don't get me wrong it wasn't bad at all. It just didn't hit a homerun, but was at least extra bases. The freshness of the meat is a big plus. These look like hand made patties. Probably 1/3 pound to start. That was a big plus. I feel that some salt could have been added to them however. The buns are average hamburger buns. Veggies seemed crisp and fresh. Cheese was completely melted, which is always a must. One of the "unique" items I mentioned earlier is their bacon. Apparently it is a jalapeño bacon and has just the right amount of kick. You definitely know it's there but it doesn't overpower. This leads me to my wife's order, which extends the uniqueness. They have a BLT on their menu. This is made with a good amount of that smoky jalapeño bacon and some fresh veggies on Texas toast. She really liked it. Son got his typical chicken strips. I normally wouldn't mention them except that it was a good sized order and the chicken (although looking like frozen strips) was cooked through and shredded apart like real chicken. Onion rings were very good. None were stuck together and had a nice golden fry on them. The fries are just ok. A tad too soggy for my tastes. My perfect fry is crispy crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Now, the homemade potato chips are impressive. The were nice and crisp to start. They did age quickly and got a little soggy the longer they sat (so probably wouldn't be too great for togo.) For those interested (we didn't have any today), they do serve Blue Bell ice cream as well. Looks like it's 4 flavors: chocolate, vanilla, cookies & cream, and strawberry. One more addition: they do have several à la carte items for your burgers. I've been told the Jalapeño Bun is a standout. I also remember there being grilled onions, mushrooms, quacamole, and green chilies. 1 Star Overall: Nice experience with fantastic service and decent quality food.
