This is an update to my first review. It will not cover service or atmosphere. This was a to-go order. It's been over two years since my first review and since we literally live down the street, I decided to give it another try. I placed the order over the phone and talked to someone who was nice. I went to pick it up and the bartender helped me out. He was very congenial and helpful. What I want to talk about though, was our food order. We got the Popper Burger and a regular Cheeseburger, both with fries. We also got an order of the fried okra (appetizer menu). The okra was perfect. Nice and crispy and hot right out of the fryer. The burgers were also very good. I commented to my wife several times that my cheeseburger was VERY good. I also enjoyed the fries. She also really liked her Popper burger. So much so that she ate all of it, which is rare for her to finish an entire entree. So anyway, maybe we will give another dine-in try soon. read more

Ambiance: if you are a redneck gung-ho MAGA supporter, this is the place for you. I strongly suspect tbe owners and workers are not vaccinated, in keeping with their beliefs. So if you don't want to risk Hep C of whatever is being peddled here, keep rolling. They don't want you, anyway. read more

Not a one star only because the atmosphere is fantastic. Awesome play area, well setup for families with kids. That's pretty much the only good from the evening, unfortunately. We had a party of 6. We arrived and hadn't been there before. We walked in and awkwardly stood around for a few minutes with no one greeting us. Several workers passed by without saying anything. We went up to worker who said we could sit wherever and she'd be with us soon. We told her we would be sitting outside, and she said that was fine. After about 10 minutes of waiting at our table with no one coming by, one of us went inside and found a worker to ask for menus. Server came out soon after that and took our order. We all ordered at the same time. About 15ish minutes later, four of the six orders were brought out. Everything was correct. All 4 people happy. Good food in good timing. Drink refills were asked for but after about 10 minutes of waiting for them, someone had to go inside and ask at the bar for the some refills. About 15 minutes after the first four meals were brought out, a fifth meal was finally brought out. At this time, the final person still waiting for food was asked by the server what it was she had ordered, and said that she would go check on it. That meal was then brought out about 5 minutes after that (a solid 20 minutes after the first four were served - 3 of those people had already finished eating at this point). These last two meals were loaded nachos and a frito pie. Both came out with shredded cheese melted on top instead of queso (which is what the menu listed for both items). Weird, because two of the orders that did come out in a timely manner were also loaded nachos, but those had queso on them - not shredded cheese melted in a microwave. They apparently ran out of queso after making two of the 4 orders that required queso...and spent 15-20 minutes shredding some cheese and microwaving it on for these other two meals. Not a word was said by the waitress about the kitchen running out of queso. Not a word of apology for the meals arriving at wildly different times. Melted on shredded cheese is a bit of a joke for $14 nachos. At least the frito pie was only $8. Service overall was pretty awful. Refills were requested three times and only brought out one of those times. Server had to be sought out - she maybe checked on the table once of her own volition the entire hour or so we were there. Seems like the place is probably poorly managed. The waitress should have been communicated to by the kitchen as soon as the food order was put in that they did not have enough queso for four meals, so she could come back and apologize for the inconvenience and ask what we wanted to do. A table of 6 should never have 2 of the 6 people served 15-20 minutes after the other four people when everyone puts in their order at the same time- especially when the meals are simple (frito pie and nachos). Refills should show up promptly a within a few minutes of request. If it takes longer, the server should apologize for the wait. Never should a customer feel the need to seek out their own refill because they haven't seen their server for 10 minutes after asking for one. All simple things that scream poor training, poor hiring/firing, and bad communication. Will maybe give it another try in the future because the atmosphere is great, but yeah....pretty poorly run place. read more

We friggin love this place. The food is fantastic. Even better with the new menu. Wings are the best I've ever had, wife loves the salmon, bbq chicken pizza is to die for. Staff is very friendly. We are regulars and this is a place where "everybody knows your name". They have a bounce house for kids and it's great for hosting private events. If you have something negative to say about Doc's I'm ready to fight. read more

I read Shawn M's review before I started this review. Shawn is an excellent yelper, so I'm sure his experience was quite disappointing. Fortunately, mine was just the opposite. I've been hearing about Doc's for a while, and we finally made it. Doc's has a country restaurant decor, but with all the tv's of a great sports bar. Best of both worlds! The staff was great, and we started with chips and salsa. The in-house salsa was great! We chowed it down. Now, it's Tuesday, which means $8 chicken fried steak! That's right! Chicken fried steak with white gravy, mashed potatoes with white gravy, and delicious green beans, with no white gravy. All for $8. It was actually very good. We're going to do it again tomorrow night! Thursday is wings night, and Friday is catfish night. We had a great time and a great meal at a reasonable price. I hope Shawn will give them another chance. GO to DOC's! read more

Been wanting to come here for awhile now since I've been in Abilene working at Dyess AFB for about a month now. Let me say WOW! The food and service are great, it's a bit out but worth the drive. I got the Doc burger and it was the Wednesday special which I got an extra burger. It was delicious and good portions. So I took the other to the hotel. I also got the Gator bites which were awesome! The Cajun sauce was great. I will definitely come back and spend the word. read more

I made a yelp account just because this place wad so shit, so heres a list on this cause I'm really pissed. I'd like to say first, the service was very good, loved that. The whole restaurant was pretty, there was a pool table, corn hole board outside, nice lighting. I loved that. Our server told us the menu is a few months outdated I had almost half the things from the menu, from all the people at our table ordering different things, and it all sucked. The special, chicken fried cutlet, was just chicken fried steak, where I thought it would be actual chicken, which may just be a misunderstanding on my part. The food was dry and tasted bad, the pizza sucked, the steak was undercooked, tasteless, and made me loose my appetite On top of that, the menu was overpriced as shit, and everything that looked like it would be good, they were out of, or they didn't sell it anymore. So let me teach yall how to make food and get more customers Make the chicken fried stake smaller, and thicker. It'll have twice the flavor, Dont beat the living shit out of it so that it's thinner than a sheet of cardboard. Season your dry ass food. Update the damn menu. actually cook the raw fries. Season the green beans better. And lower your prices. would also like to add that I really did like the fried pickles, those were perfect but for your own safety, PLEASE do NOT go to this restaurant. Read reviews and thought after 1-2 years have passed maybe service has improved so we gave it a chance. Sat here waiting for someone to stop by and offer menu or acknowledge we were here. Other tables came is and I kept an eye out wondering if they would be acknowledged. My husband finally went to the bar to at least get us a drink. We're told you had to sit down and order from your waitress. So bartender Mattie who was awesome showed up with our beers and ended up taking our order. Other table after us actually ordered and got food way before us and were leaving when we finally got our lukewarm food. Part of order incorrect and Maddie took care of it to have redone. 2nd attempt was very good. Got our food had to go ask for ticket never checked on us to see how everything was. We asked the busboy if we could have some napkins as none ever provided -forgot. We asked the busboy for to go containers -forgot. My thought is here from observation, the waitresses cater to regulars. Waitress stopping to chit chat holding the kids at the table shows partiality. If you are not a regular you are ignored which doesn't bring anyone back doesn't matter if food is good or not. Plenty of other places in town to spend my money. Chicken fried steak so tender it melts in your mouth. Friendly attentive staff. Laid back country atmosphere to hang with friends and relax. But they have TABC signs and double down with an unnecessary NO GUNS sign. I have had 3 years of my freedoms infringed I can't spend my money at places like this anymore. Been here twice. I always try places at least twice when they are local! Love giving the local folks the business. I travel all over the world. Spend 4 months on average in hotels and eating at different restaurants. So, I do get a little picky about service and quality of food. It is expense to eat out anywhere and it is a treat! This could be an amazing place. Has a great outside space. Looks like a great place to host a part. Food is average at best. WiFi does not work and as it is a metal building, your cell service is marginal. Every time I have gone, service is marginal. Ordered chicken fried steak, and they gave us plastic utensils... every cut steak with plastic fork and knife? Love the ambiance. Love the location. The food was alright but the service was good! It's an interesting atmosphere.... The parking lot is all gravel and there is a large outdoor space. When you walk in you seat yourself but it's not really obvious that you're supposed to do that. First off, I love this bar and grill!!! My wife and I just moved here from out of state and Doc's is a two minute drive from our house. I decided to take my wife and three kids out to eat here. As soon as I walked in with one of my kids I was greeted and then a group of some of the regulars started talking to my wife and I. They invited us to sit with them and they became the first group of friends we made in Abilene. We happened to be there on a Monday which was dollar domestics. We ordered the gator bites, truffle fries, mozzarella stills and onion rings. Everything we ordered was super good. The second time we went there we ordered the nachos which was also super good. I've heard the burgers are amazing and I'll be ordering that the next time I go. My kids had a great time with our new friends kids. Outside they have cornhole, sand volleyball, a fire pit and plenty of space to sit or stand. Inside they have a "jukebox" and two pool tables with plenty of seats. The whole place is well maintained and clean. The waitresses are super friendly, helpful and on top of getting drinks and food for everyone. I plan on bringing all my friends and family to this place whenever anyone visits from out of town. I met Ben the owner/manager and he was a super nice and friendly guy. Everyone basically cheers for him when he walks in the bar. read more

This places has potential and if the food issues are corrected it will be a nice place to hang out. Decor is very nice and lots of tvs to watch the games. The food was the let down for me. The menu was very limited, however, it did just open so I expect more items as they gain more experience. We ordered cheese sticks as an appetizer. They were really good., definitely be ordering those again. For our entree we ordered the wings, Cheeseburger and fries. The wings were pretty good as well however the burger is where they fell flat. The bread was very thick and dense and served cold, almost like it just came from the refrigerator. They did toast the bun however It seemed like they did it hours before service because it was very soggy. The meat was ok, it had little flavor but the toppings were very disappointing . Three small strands of lettuce, a tomato that was an inch thick on one end and paper thin on the other. No mustard or mayo on top of the other issues, made this a cold,thick, dry burger that was very hard to eat with out a drink. The truffle fries were also disappointing, taste was good however cold and chewy as if they were cooked an hour earlier. I hope this place succeeds and I believe they will if they can fix the food. We will try again after some time hopefully leaving with a better opinion. read more

Great fun on karaoke night. Long necks were cheap and free flowing. Try the pizza and the wings are to die for. Good service! If you go in on a non karaoke night And you put money in the juke box know the bartenders have control of the volume. I can cook better burgers than what I was given. This place has two pool tables, sand volleyball court, outdoor dining, and wide open spaces inside the bar. We came in around 2:15 on a Saturday afternoon, the waitress came around 5-10 minutes later and was very sweet. We ordered nachos around 2:25 with our drinks. About 20 minutes later the rest of our party ordered several appetizers. They were understandably busy on a Saturday afternoon, but the rest of our party's appetizers came out in about 25 minutes. Around 3:10 the waitresses came by and said she would check in our nachos, but nothing came. Around 3:20 we asked the bar tender to cancel our nachos. At around 3:30 she let us knew that the kitchen apparently "lost the order" and that they were in the oven if we still wanted them. It then took another 15+ minutes to get our tickets to leave. I'm not sure where all the hype comes from, the service was poor at best; I waited 22 minutes for the server to take our food order. It was not busy, not even close. I again waited for the bartender to get off their phone and take my drink orders. When I did receive service, they were very snotty and acted as though my orders were a burden and they shouldn't even have to service customers. The "manager" was just as bad if not worse. I was appalled. My advice? Spend your money somewhere your business will be appreciated. This was my third visit at which point I gave up and decided a review was required. I'm not one to review after the first visit, everyone has bad days. But the service was consistently poor across all 3 visits to Docs. 1 star, which is only given because the food was decent. read more
