We sat at the bar and our bartender was amazing! He was funny and attentive despite being very busy! Service: The restaurant was so busy with diners even at 8:30 PM on a Saturday evening. I did not expect it to be this busy in my head. My husband and I sat at the bar since that was open seating and there were no sit down tables available inside or on the patio. The restaurant will add you to the waitlist if you'd like! Food: My husband and I shared the deviled eggs appetizer, and "the burger" with grilled jalapeños and pepper jack cheese. The deviled wggs (satan's huevos) were good, and spicy because we chose the "hellfire" option. The burger was huge! I'm glad my husband I split it because there was no way I'd finish that burger on my own! We both left content and not stuffed. read more

My wife and I came here on a Saturday early afternoon. We were sat and handed brunch menus which didn't have the Philly cheese steak on it. We looked at the menu online prior to coming and knew that we both wanted to try the cheese steak, so this was a bit of a bummer. They waitress who was very attentive told us that we can't order from the full menu for another 30 minutes so we decided to wait rather than leave. Listen, I get it the idea of having a different menu for brunch, but why not post it on your website and state the specific times for each menu? Also, what difference does 30 minutes make? They couldn't fire up the grill 30 minutes early? It wasn't very busy. Anyways, now for the good part: When we were finally allowed to order our sandwiches they were absolutely amazing. The steak was high quality and the gooey cheese had a ton of flavor. What wasn't amazing however was the bill. $20 for a sandwich and a small portion of fries in Abilene is absolute insanity. What's even crazier is we were charged extra for a side of ranch! I understand you get what you pay for, and there's no arguing the quality of the sandwich was top notch, but at the end of the day it's still just a sandwich. If you're good with dropping nearly $60 (including tip) on lunch, then this is your spot. For me, I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

My fiancé is working in a small town "near" here and couldn't come home for Valentines weekend so I went to him. We drove over to Abilene for the day to tootle around and decided on this place for dinner. The wait was about an hour (it's Valentines and our plans were unexpected, so it's kind of nice they got to us at all much less that quickly.) I only have two negative things to say so I'll start there and then go to the good parts. We were seated outside without asking our preference. Relaying that information beforehand might have landed us going somewhere else. There are heaters and a fireplace- none of which were on. Even the waitress wore her coat the entire service. I was in a skirt. The chairs are metal. And it's daaaaark, dark out there. We ordered the sausage app and oysters for our starters- oysters were great. The sausage wasn't anything I'd order again. The little pretzel bun was good. My shrimp and grits were very different than "traditional"- but good all the same. My fiancés steak was GREAT so were the green beans. My cider was delicious. We have experienced The Taylor County Taphouse a few times now and I do try to try new things each time. The mozzarella was super thick and fluffy the ranch addition was probably the best, the chicken sandwich was hot and fresh, and next time I'll probably add extra bacon. The oysters are always fresh and delicious, usually gone by the time they come back with the Tabasco The service is usually pretty good, I would recommend maybe a little bit more check backs to the table whether it be for ordering drink refills, making sure the food is tasting okay, or ordering in general. But I can see most servers being attentive which is nice The restaurant itself is very nice and calming, it has a very mood lighting feel to it at night time with low lights on the inside and the patio is very nice as well, it's never too hot and never to cold. read more

Dropped in here after visiting Abilene to buy a car and it was worth it. Service was immediate, attentive, and friendly. My server had a delightful accent maybe from Europe? I digress. The fries are incredible. Crisp and the flavor, I almost did not want to dunk them in BBQ sauce and that's rare. The wings were fantastic although they would not permit me to have all drumsticks (management take note, this is a common ask, one you should be able to accommodate). Extra ranch was requested and delivered with meal. Although I ordered just two things off the menu, you can tell the chef takes great pride in the quality and presentation of the food. Super cute place . Great service! We sat in the patio It was really nice out. We had the sausage platter very delicious! I had the French onion soup which was not the best I've had was just ok and the Caesar salad tasted weird not sure if their dressing is different? We also had the bacon wrapped quail over the cheesy grits which was amazing! The crème brûlée was the best I've had . Will definitely be back . Nothing like spending Fat Tuesday at Taylor County Tap House. With a jazz band jamming in the background I ate the Crawfish Monica. The pasta features Louisiana Crawfish sautéed with butter and garlic, then bathed in a creamy creole sauce. A bit of spice made the dish fantastic. WOW! What a pleasant surprise! The reviews did not do this place justice. There was a full house here on a school night and it's obvious to see the regulars are loyal here and frequent the chef magic. Some of the couples positioned at the bar had suggestions on pork loin, meatloaf, blackened salmon pasta, steaks and even seared tuna. Since I'm not too sure about Lake Abilene daily catch (Haha), I opted for meatloaf. The asparagus and sweet potato hash with sriracha ketchup topping were out of this world. Audrey was working the bar like a well played guitar. There was a huge plethora of draft beer options and she is no question an expert and understands what craft beer folks look for. The service was excellent, except for reminding them multiple times to bring ketchup, but the food was a little disappointing. A couple of us wanted the redfish, but they said they haven't been able to get it for a while. Other places, even in tiny Abilene have it. So, chicken fried steak it is - for three out of four of us. The fourth had a salad and said it was very good. The chicken fried steak was well flavored, but my jaw muscles gave out before I could chew the first dozen bites. It was tough as a boot. Nice thick cut - but all 3 of us looked at each other after working on that first bite for several minutes. My wife pulled the batter off and left the steak. My brother-in-law gave up - leaving half of it behind. If I ever go back, I can scratch that off my list. I make sautéed green beans, regularly and they ought to be firm - but not raw. To go service was terrible, and I will never order here again. I received a text that my order was ready, so I parked in the designated to go parking spot and went in to the hostess stand. She said I needed to drive around to the pickup window. I said ok and drove around. After waiting several minutes there with no acknowledgement from the people I could see in the window, I drove back around to the to go spot. I went in again and asked if they could just get me my order since it was already ready. They said no they can't and I needed to drive back around, but they'd be ready for me. I drove back around and no one was at the window again. After a few more minutes I got my food and drove off. They forgot to give me the soda I paid for, and there was also no silverware included. By the time I got utensils to eat with, my food was ice cold. This place is too expensive to have such terrible service. read more

It's time to update my review. We tried their brunch this time and we weren't as impressed. Eggs tasted similar to a free hotel breakfast, but the potatoes and fries were good. Potatoes had some heat to them and we loved that! Wouldn't recommend their breakfast on brioche sandwich, sausage & eggs tasted similar to a frozen meal other than the brioche bread. On the other hand, the half portion of the chicken fried steak was good! The grilled cheese sandwich wasn't anything special.. a very average grilled cheese could've made that a home. I so seldom post negative reviews because I realize things can happen which are a fluke; kitchen is off it's mark, miscommunication between waitstaff and kitchen and or customers and so on. But seldom all these at one sitting. To their benefit, we were a party of 10 and had checked with them by phone before arriving to make sure they could handle us...which as it turns out-they didn't Our waiter was very friendly and the drinks and order intake seemed to go fine....until things began to come out of the kitchen. My wife's wings were as dry as the West Texas landscape and my order of their chili, while good, was in a teacup size container. I had asked for a bowl and our waiter replied, "That is a large." Really? $9.00 for that? Two of our party never received their dinner-although while we were getting ready to leave one order did come out, but told the kitchen runner to take it back and off the tab. Probably half of our party's tabs were wrong including ours which had the drinks mixed up. Our waiter came back with corrected copies but they still were wrong. As we were with friends and family, we went ahead and picked up the extra drinks on our order rather than go through more gyrations. Sadly, it will be remembered not for a great restaurant, but for what an example of what can go wrong. I also understand why establishments add an automatic tip to make sure the waiter does not get stiffed. In this case we paid 20% for subpar everything. read more

My husband had a special request for a BLT but since that's not something on the menu, our awesome server suggested they could modify their Club Sandwich to only include bacon, lettuce, and tomato with a few extra bacon slices. The only changes I would make to this meal would be less french fries and more coleslaw and an option to have your barbecue sauce on the side. I like to control the amount of barbecue sauce. Not too loud, not too quiet, and even a great place to bring kids!
