If I could give this restaurant 6 stars I would the hospitality was so wonderful. We'd just finished playing in a softball tournament and they didn't hesitate once to get a party of 20 seated. We came to Cotton Patch Cafe for dinner. There is plenty of parking outdoor and the restaurant has room for large groups inside; if needed. The hostess was friendly while seating us. Our server John was extremely friendly. We enjoyed the meal. The fried green tomatoes we had for an appetizer were pleasing but the buttered rolls were exceptionally delicious. The fish and shrimp entree was plenty. The value meal for the night we were there was the meatloaf; and it was good to know you had a choice of sides with no increase in price; unless you ordered a salad. Overall, it was a good meal. After passing by here a number of times, I decided to check them out for lunch. I was the first one to arrive at 11 am but by the time I left at 12 noon, the parking lot was full. I originally ordered the Turkey and Dressing but after being informed the dressing would have to made from scratch after a morning catering job, I decided not to wait for it and changed my order to the fish. The fish was excellent. It was lightly breaded and tasted so good I didn't add any condiments or tartar sauce. I choose the seasoned rice for my side. It was good too but a bit too wet. There were a few more menu selections I'd like to come back and try sometime. I ordered the Funnel Fries for dessert. They were good but I would have preferred more powdered sugar than the icing provided in the cup. read more

Four years later, an update on my first Cotton Patch experience. GF and I had spent the first part of our weekend with car club peeps. Our yearly tech day sponsored by a local shop. Once we were done we headed toward our personal objective of picking up our new kitteh. Flash forward to Stephenville for a one nighter. Blast down I-20 toward Abilene. Tiny package picked up. And then, Texas. Just a little over an hour to nowhere Brownwood for lunch. Three hours to home after that. And just like that we dined bringing our second spynx home. We arrive to a small wait. A few minute later kitty carrier on the same table from a few years ago. You'll want to start with the cornbread even though your server will bring rolls minutes later. Regular butter for the purist on both. Both excellent bread bites. I guess that's an appetizer if you ever need one. I suggest you don't order anything more. As for entrees my first choice was the Shiner Bock fish and chips but no beer...boooo. Went back to my first pick from my initial visit. The dish had changed a bit. The sorta cream sauce has been replaced by a remoulade sauce. I omitted the rice and hoped that the squash casserole was as good as old fave from Black Eyed Pea. Good bites and the most of the staff stopped by to see the new little one. She liked her chicken and dumplings too. read more

Whenever we visit Brownwood, Tx. we always visit Cotton Patch Cafe. Not just because it's close to the hotel we stay at, but because the food is delicious, reasonably priced and the staff is friendly and attentive. The menu has a large variety of options, if you can't find what you want you're not hungry. The restaurant is clean and well maintained and although they do play background music it's not so loud you can't hear table conversations. It's very family oriented and we have seen many families dining there. To be honest, it's one of the better eateries in Brownwood. read more

My waitress was also bartending I ordered a medium rare steak it was well done rather over cooked. My salad was not fresh the corn on the Cobb was ok and green beans were very good. Our second time back, since the first was very positive. Second time, on a Monday, 8-25-25, around 2:30 pm., well past the noon rush, should have been as good or better, but our waitress was slow and inattentive. This Cotton patch feels a bit like an oasis in the desert. The reason I say that is because there is not a lot of great variety in Brownwood. Many places are fast food, or one step above fast food when it is basically, really....just fast food, but sitting down. I have had mostly good experiences at this location, but either way I am grateful that it is here. My food has never been cold, always seemed fresh, the salsa and queso are excellent, and always enjoyed the waitstaff. I believe we could solve quite a few problems with current restaurant trends on ratings if everybody just stopped doing takeout and especially delivery. House sitting for our son we ordered dinner to go! Easy to order and all the food was delicious. The fried green tomatoes were great, lightly browned and just the right thickness to had a nice crunch. I got the grilled shrimp and rice with garlic mashed potatoes! I am not a fan of rice but they did a fantastic job. My husband go shrimp fish and loved it. So did our son. When you take food home and it's still good that says a lot! We love Cotton Patch and pick up take out meals frequently. No matter which menu items we order, they never disappoint. The food is consistently fresh and perfectly prepared and the service is excellent. A few weeks back we got home without part of our order. The manager, Hector had tried to catch my husband but he was already driving off. We realized the issue when he got home and I called as we live too far out to conveniently go back for the missing items. Hector was very apologetic and he didn't just offer to refund what was missing but comped our entire next order for two. That is what I call excellent customer service! I've been here a few times, and it isn't bad. It's like a chili's, imo. The waitresses are nice, at least the ones I've had. Food: it's decent. Again, reminds me of chili's. Their queso and chips are good. Their burger and sweet potato fries are good. Their chicken fried steak was not good. It was way too bland. Drinks: they're decent. Nothing to rave about. Messed up on our order twice. Ordered salmon ended up with a tough dry flat piece of chicken breast. Should of kept the first mistake it looked better,which was grilled chicken tenders(at least that's what it looked like). The things we ordered that were good was the rice broccoli casserole and the broccoli. My talapia was good but a little mushy.the baked squash was undercooked. Our waitress was friendly but indifferent. A dog came in and we saw our waitress pet it. She didn't wash her hands immediately after and still messed with other tables so we didn't bother to get a to go box. The atmosphere was just like any other cotton patch but a little darker. Ok, decided to ignore all the reviews and try Cotton Patch for takeout. Bad decision. I wish it wasn't though. We had: -CFS with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Broccoli Rice Casserole -CFC Sandwich with Onion Rings and Chicken and Dumplings -Meatloaf with Baked Squash and Fried Okra -Fried Shrimp CFS was just so-so. Breading wasn't crispy and it wasn't very tender. The Mashed Potatoes were good, and we like them with skin on, but there seemed an inordinate amount of skins in the mash. The ratio was way off, leaving us wondering where the potatoes were. The Broccoli Casserole was also uninspiring. Again, with the CFC Sandwich, it was average and you can find a better sandwich elsewhere. The Onion Rings were thick-cut. Really thick-cut and not like the photos the business uploaded on Yelp. Not a fan. The Dumplings were at least the warmest item, but it was a soupy and flavorless, with about 2 dumplings in the cup. Meatloaf was sort of a watery, tomato-ey mess. It was certainly not presented in "loaf" form. The Squash Casserole was bland and needed seasoning. The okra, was fairly crispy which was a good thing. We added a side of Fried Shrimp and they were pale and soggy, instead of a crisp golden hue. The breads that come with the meal were good, while still warm. *Looks like they have a Bar and Daily Specials not mentioned on the webpage.* read more

Food here is excellent! Started with the jalapeno corn bread in a cast iron skillet. Nice kick without the sweet and salty cornbread Shared the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli cheese rice thing. Chicken fried steak had great seasoning in the batter and was a good sized portion. Potatoes were fresh and not packaged. Rice was delicious too Tried the fried green tomatoes. It was tasty but the batter seemed a bit gooey underneath the crispy outside They have lunch and daily specials which are really affordable. We had lunch after church yesterday. The place was empty except one other table. Our food arrived fast and hot. I have always loved CP but wasn't feeling it yesterday I guess. My husband liked his steak - cooked his way and juicey! My boys rarely actually eat so their lack of enthusiasm was normal. I had the meatloaf and garlic mashed potatoes - I just didn't enjoy it. But I really wanted Chicken Pot Pie, which isn't on the menu on weekends :/ However, our waitress (Erika) was TOP NOTCH! She was very attentive and friendly! There were 5 other waitresses standing around but Erika took every table that came in while we were there! She rocked! 5 stars for her!
