Very poor service. I came inside to order ad I asked for my food to go. When they brought it out to me it was on a plate. I asked if they could please make it to go. The server went and got an unfolded box and handed to me and said "here you go.". Then once I got outside to my truck the food was cold and you could tell it had probably been made early in the day. This is going to be an.....interesting review for me. Firstly I have to say that the Chicken Express in Early Texas has great customer service, great food, and they keep the store very clean. I used to live in the area and would frequent it often actually. So why only 2 stars? The answer has everything to do with the location of the restaurant itself... Chicken Express of Early sits directly next to a funeral home, and more specific, a crematorium. On more than one occasion I have gone to Chicken Express when a.... event... is taking place next door. The odor that affects the area has the potential to carry over. The idea of eating while smelling that particular odor is absolutely disturbing to me. This is unfortunately out of the control of Chicken Express however, it is enough for me to be disgusted enough that I don't go back near as much as I want to. read more

Camee today and the wait was more than we expected, but that's fine. My fried pickles were burned and tasted awful. I NEVER send food back and apologized 3 times for it. The kid took my pickles, tossed them in the trash, and said, "Okay." I had to go back up there because I didn't know if I should expect a refund or new pickles. The food is decent but the service is usually terrible. I always go thru the drive thru and it is a gamble whether or not the order will be right, but it's good when it is. The car attendants could use some lessons in manners and customer service but if you're not in a hurry, they do have the best chicken in Brownwood (if they're not sold out). New Management is rude. I went here on Mother's Day and purchased a family fish meal for over 30.00 The hushpuppies were so undercooked that when bit into the batter was runny. I parked and went back inside and I supposed the manager came to the check out and I politely said our hushpuppies were not cooked. I was told rudely that this is the way they are cooked and they follow the cook time required. I said "well can you look at these?" and broke one open to show the raw batter. I was told these are a new hushpuppy and they cook according to the directions (rudely) Well I'm sorry that you are having a bad day but I just spent a lot of money to eat out on mother's day and management is rude. Didn't want to cook anything tonight so stopped by Chicken Express for dinner to go. I ordered the 15 piece Chicken Strip special with 2 sides - 1 French Fries and 2. Fried Okra and [6] half and half biscuits and rolls. My order was hot, freshly made and ready in a matter of minutes. Store looked clean and inviting for the outside and at the drive through the place looked exceptionally busy and attendants were attentive and friendly. First time to try the Chicken Strip dips, my favorites so far are the Honey Mustard and Buffalo Hot Wings. Yum I'm giving this place a 5 star because not only [IMHO] was the food and service was the best it could be but I felt like I had gotten a good deal. If, you're looking for decent fried chicken in the Brownwood/Early area and you don't feel like going to Underwoods, then Chicken Express is probably my best "Plan B." When dining in, the service is prompt, the chicken and sides are great (corn nuggets..yay!), the sweet tea is fresh. Of course, like most fast food places, it has the ambiance of a public restroom, but I go there for the greasy chicken, not the culture. The dining room is clean the prices are reasonable and that's about all that can be said. However, be warned, that if you go through the drive through, they never let you use the speaker and instead send someone out to take your order, which at first seems really nice. The problem arises, when the usually teenaged employee takes the order by memory and doesn't write anything down. Be sure to carefully check your order when you're at the window, because I come here regularly and the mistakes made on my order have been somewhat frequent. read more

Very clean, fast and friendly service. The managers here know what they are doing! I've been to a lot of chicken expresses all across Texas, and I've never stopped at one nicer than this one. The employees don't use a drive thru speaker, but instead walk out to your car and take your order personally. The chicken and sides have always been cooked fresh, and I've always gotten MORE than I've paid for. If I could give this zero stars I would. First off, over 3 of the employees were not wearing their masks WHILE handling food during a global pandemic. We waited 30 minutes at the main window AFTER paying and we still did not receive food. Instead, they served every car behind us, despite our order being only ONE 3 tender meal. First of all I want to state that I have never written a restaurant review....this is my first....I recently complimented this establishment on finally getting their speaker system working and quicker service.....HOWEVER after today I regret this! I ordered two fish dinners and realized that I would probably have to wait for them to cook it....I got to the window very quickly, received our drinks and paid....the young lady at the window informed me that it would be about six (6) more minutes for the fish and I asked if I needed to pull forward and wait. She told me yes and they would bring it out to me. I waited for 12 minutes and finally parked and went inside to inquire about my order. The young lady from the window then informed me that she had given my order to the car behind me and that they had just returned it. I was slightly perturbed and I do understand that mistakes happen....but NONE of the employees apologized for the mistake and I still had to wait another 5 minutes for them to assemble my order.....the fish was good (and they gave us a few extra pieces) but their customer service needs improvement! My question to the management is....."How long would I have been waiting in my car before they came to tell me? And what if the car that got our order had not returned it...would you have ever had realized that I was waiting?" read more

After extremely long wait in drive thru, received order....which was supposed to be a large order of mixed chicken and a 25 pack of tenders plus 5 family sides. Drove over 30 min each way to get there only to get back and open large order and find out that we received the WRONG order!!! Was less than half of what I ordered and EVERYTHING about it was wrong. Spent another 30 minutes (after the long drive back) trying to get someone to answer phone number printed on receipt....which is same number listed on website. NO ANSWER....AT ALL!!!!!! 20 people at a family reunion in Mullin completely let down......and hungry!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone finally answered the phone at 9pm after having tried the same number since 6:30pm. Upon sharing my disappointment and requesting a full refund, the manager on duty, Jessica, asked me to drive back (an hour round trip) just to refund my credit card!!! Said she had no authority to refund on her own. After staring I was from out of town and at a family reunion and would NOT be driving back an hour for a refund, she asked me if I knew someone else that would?!?!! Totally ridiculous to ask me to be further inconvenienced over their error! Requested Jessica to contact someone WITH authority...which she stated it would be the owner, Kimberly. After being placed on hold another 5 minutes, Jessica finally returned back to the line only to request my cell phone number for the owner to contact. This was at 9:12pm. I asked when she would be calling me and she said sometime tonight. I received a call back finally at 9:40 from Kimberly. Rather than refunding the more than $30 they overcharged me for the wrong order, she refused and only offered me the 16 piece chicken order that was missing. This establishment is poorly managed and, I realize now that it is a direct reflection of poor ownership . My recommendation......get chicken somewhere else!!!!! I was later contacted by owner and told that given the "confusion" they would go ahead and MAIL me a PARTIAL refund. I expect a FULL refund...given I did not receive the order requested and about 20 people were inconvenienced. Alot of energy and time, too much in fact given it should have been a no-brainer and just the right thing to do, had to go into getting a refund mailed to me....for chicken!!!!! read more

This Chicken E isn't much different than the others I've visited at different locations. I wouldn't recommend any of their food, but if chicken is what you NEED, then you can probably 'make do' with theirs. I'd suggest the drive thru rather than eating in their dining room. I always feel as if I have a little film of fry grease on me when I go in. The risk at the drive window is the food getting cold before you arrive at your destination. Rarely have I ever gotten anything warm/hot enough thru the window that was still warm when I was able to start eating. read more

This place is awesome. But they have started serving the spicy chicken now which is great. But they don't cook any until someone orders it which takes 10 minutes. For me, that's fine because I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere but for people that are on lunch break or in a hurry this will cause them to not order it which will probably cause them to stop offering it. I think it should be cooked just like the other and when ordered ask spicy or regular just like they ask about roll or biscuit. This way people know it's available now and it gets to stay on the menu because more people will order it. Other then that, this place is very clean and the staff is very polite.
