Our first time here. Hubby had the fish and shrimp. He said shrimp was excellent, they were sweet and fried so crispy, the fish was ok and he loved the hush puppies. We both enjoyed the salad bar. I ordered the Scrimps, suposed to be steak and shrimp but there was no shrimp hidden under the burnt onions and peppers. Our waiter did a great job considering he had a ton of tables!!!! I was told, I HAD to come here for a meal andna steak. Let's start with the service, it was great! Very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Let's move it to the salad bar....not clean, ranch dressing is awful it doesnt even taste like ranch, filet and mashed potatoes and brown gravy. The filet wasnt bad, not great but good. I was down in Brownwood visiting my Dad and we decide to go out for a steak. The Section Hand Steakhouse doesnt look like all that much when you walk in but was heavenly once I ate the food. My pops got a chicken fried steak which was ok by Texas standard but I got a rib eye steak which was really tasty. It was cooked ot perfect medium rare and very tender. We aslso had a salad bar as part of the lunch deal and it was fantastic. Everything was fresh and their were salad, veggie, fruit, pasta salad, sides and dressing options that were all amazing. Dark. Damp. Felt like I was at a high pressure time share pitch. After a 10 minute spiel on how they prep their steaks and how great they are...I was underwhelmed. At a quarter to 11 am I found a parking place right by the front door. There were several places available. I was greeted and seated immediately upon arrival. My server took my drink order right after sitting down. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped 7 oz Filet with a Baked Potato. The steak was juicy and delicious. The baked potato was excellent. Good home town cooking. big buffet and I see lots of friendly faces of people I've known throughout the years even though I no longer live in Brownwood. The food can be varying from great to okay but most don't always go for the quality of the food but more so for the quantity and ambiance and convenience. It's close to the hospital and the football stadium and most often we can get in and out within an hour with a big group. read more

Good home style food. Reminds me a the places I are at as a youth in west Texas. The owner/manager came by twice when he heard it was my first visit. We stopped here on the way back from Abilene for a late breakfast or in my wife's case an early lunch. I had chicken fried steak and eggs and she had chicken fried steak and baked potato and everything was really good, especially the gravy which was not out of a jar. My toast with butter and delicious! Our waitress was awesome and working really hard and called everybody "Hon'" and "Sweetie" and made sure everything was taken care of. My coffee was really weak and my hashbrowns were a little overcooked but I would definitely eat here again. I have heard the cobbler is awesome that we did not have room for any LOL.. Very tasty food at an amazing price i ordered the "scraps" which is basically sirloin steak tips with grilled veggies.

I will not hesitate to go back. They had a very generous sirloin steak special of the day that all four of us ordered. Pretty sure it as cooked on a flat grill and it was very tender and flavorful. Would have never thought to try this place despite driving by and seeing a ton of patrons in the parking lot. So glad our family had us out for dinner. We loved the salad bar. They do a great job of keeping it tidy and restocked. The server was new but she did an outstanding job. We typically don't eat steak out since it's often overcooked for our liking or the cut is something left to be desired. Well not here. Our steak was big juicy and cooked to a perfect medium rare. This restaurant makes delicious comfort food and has an "at home" feel to it. The decorations were southern and cute. I would highly recommend for family style dining. So far I've tried the bread and watermelon from the salad bar as a starter. They were both so bad that I didn't even want to try the rest of the salad bar. Real appetite killer. However, the water was crisp and smooth, very enjoyable, and the service was great. My main course was the club sandwich with a side of fries. The club sandwich was perfect, with great taste and not too filling. The fries complimented it perfectly, and were some of the best I've had in a long time. Overall I would say the salad bar is below average to average, but the main meal and service really make up for it. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very homey and I felt like I was at home. Today, I decided on having the 1 1/4 pound Sirloin To-Go for 2 for just under $20. The deal comes with Sirloin, 2 potatoes and 2 salad bars. Pulled up at 8:30, pulling 16 foot trailer and parked on the second row of a deserted lot(3 cars) . Sign said breakfast served until 10:30, I guess we'd miss the "rush". Hostess greeted us with"Do mea favor and park across the street, you're blocking our lot". In her defense she was pleasant enough in her tone, just not customer service savvy. I didn't know another existed till I had seen the billboard when I was passing through. The service was awesome and service is as important to me as the food! Caleb was my server. The wife and I had business in Brownwood. We looked for a burger doodle at noon, bad idea, and remembered the Section Hand from when I was in Howard Payne. We were not disappointed! We were greeted as soon as we stepped in. The staff were very friendly and accommodating! The place was fairly busy but our waitress was attentive. The salad bar had some good selections although ice burg lettuce was the only options for greens. Yuck! I was able to work around the lettuce and put together a different type of raw vegetable salad. The stew was amazing and the steaks were cooked nicely. Just a bit of pink without being to over or under done! I appreciated the available choice of sweet potato! It was cooked through without being burned! That is rare! I did not eat the rolls but another person in our party said they are very good! Very good, down home or Texas country style, cooking.
