Dropped into the bar and met a gal pal for a quick meal and a long overdue visit. We both ordered drinks from the bar (Michelob Ultra / Tito's Chilton) - Serving portion was perfect and the waitress helpful but not hovering. We ate through the delicious basket of bread and butter. She ordered the soup of the day (carne asada soup) and a wedge salad with extra blue cheese. I ordered the salmon brussel sprout kale salad. New to Abilene, I was looking for fine dining and Copper Creek seems to be one of the few restaurants that comes up when I do a search. I found it overall be adequate, but not great. The food was just okay and the ambiance was nice, albeit slightly dated and themed. Read on for details... Food: The steaks were very good. They just were. No complaints there. The calamari was too heavily fried; downright crunchy, and the calamari may as well have been absent. If I had been blindfolded, I honestly couldn't have been able to distinguish between the fried green beans (I think?) that were in the mix and the calamari itself. The sides were unremarkable. As was the table bread. The dessert I chose was a special; a peanutbutter pie. It was very rich, and would have been all right paired with some fresh whipped cream atop; instead it was smothered in chocolate sauce, despite the chocolate ganache which was a significant part of the pie itself. Came in out of town to take my mom to dinner for Mother's Day. I have been to this restaurant several times and always had a 5 star experience. Ordered the sirloin steak. It was very fatty and I didn't finish it. The baked potato was perfect as was our waitress. My chair cushion was visible very dirty so I switched it out. We have lived here 3.5 years and have never been to this restaurant. WOW!!! We decided to make a reservation for NYE. So glad we did. I am also very glad we dressed up. What a classy establishment! We arrived 45 mins early and thought we would just go to the bar and have a drink while we waited. The bar top was full. We were able to order a drink and after a few minutes we were able to sit down. Such great atmosphere. They were able to get us seated 10 minutes early which was great. We had a nice little table for two. There was so many things we wanted to try off the menu. Too bad they don't do a sampler plate of all the things. I normally do not order soup but all the reviews said it was a must try. Boy were they correct! The lobster bisque had huge chunks of lobster meat and the soup was so creamy with a great flavor. We also started off with the calamari and cactus. It had a little bit of a spicy kick which was wonderful. I was intrigued by the blackened red fish so that is what I got. It came with wild rice and the fish had crawfish and crab meat on it as well. It was a very flaky white fish that had an amazing flavor. I also tried a side of jalapeno grits. They were sooo good. My wife got the ribeye steak that came with a loaded baked potato. The steak had a great flavor and was cooked perfectly as medium rare. Our waiter was Logan. He was fantastic. Four of us went to an early dinner yesterday. The service was very good and the food was excellent. We had chicken fried steak, ribeye and salmon. All were very good. Always great food and service. Love the wood booths and they have a menu that's back- lit so you don't have to get out your phone to read it!! Some may not appreciate the animal heads and stuffed animals around the place but it's part of the ambiance. Food was pretty good. Husband really liked his catfish dish. The chicken carbonara was very rich. I couldn't finish it. Probably get steak next time. It's worth a try if you haven't been here. We were celebrating our 39th anniversary. The ambience was authentic and the food was excellent. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The server stopped by and asked if we were ready to order, which we were. We received our salads, then the drinks came out and our appetizer followed several minutes later. Came here for a late lunch on Easter Sunday and glad that we did. We started off with the goat cheese jalapeño poppers. Now I am not a fan of goat cheese but these were incredible! Absolutely incredible! As for the entrees, my wife had the chop steak which had great flavor while I had the chicken fried chicken, which was cooked perfectly. Their gravy that I smothered all over it was also excellent. As for the desserts, the carrot cake was just mediocre. Felt that it was too dense, could have done without the raisins and added more frosting. However, their specialty dessert was off the charts good. It came out smoking from the dried ice. My body reminded me Sunday night and most of Monday why I shouldn't eat spicy food, but I would gladly suffer the consequences to have those jalapeño poppers again. Last night I went to an ACU football game and was quite hungry afterwards. My family and I enjoyed a wonderful meal! The service was amazing , our waitress' name was Courtney. She was such a sweet lady. The restaurant was very western and cowboy like . It was very welcoming and warm. In my opinion the Cabernet wine list is lacking. I started off with the Lobster Bisque. It was very spicy, not buttery or smooth. The main course was just average for the special at $49. The cod was a little overcooked for my taste which sat on a bed of mashed potatoes. Again, mashed potatoes were just average. The French beans, which were an extra $2.99 were very salty and not eatable. The dining area was dull, dark, and the booth was saggy, no support. All in all, it was not a good dining experience. Really good one day, not so good the next. I took my wife there for lunch on Friday after a very good lunch the day before with business customers. The server was great, but the kitchen overcooked the salmon, and we had to start over, delaying our meal for 30 minutes. Once the food was delivered, it was good. It was just the experience was disappointing. After such a great lunch the day before it would've been nice if the manager had offered some discount because of the inconvenience. What a great find in Abilene!! I was visiting family in the area and we were looking for a new place to have lunch. We Yelped for suggestions and this place popped up and we thought we'd give it a shot. The parking lot was full when we arrived for lunch and the place was busy but we were still sat in a few minutes. The dining room is really cool and embraces the Texas hunting motif. The booths are really soft and you sink into the seats. I felt like a kid at the grown up table. Lol We were greeted quickly and received drinks in minutes. My dining partners split the chopped salad for an appetizer and they said it was very very good. They kept raving about the salad dressing. I split the nachos for my entree with another person. They split the nachos for us in the kitchen. That made it easier! These nachos were huge! And so incredibly flavorful with the smoked meats on them. Excellent!!! Another friend ordered the salmon and he thoroughly enjoyed this item. The salmon was medium and he said was excellent. I was too full for dessert but a few had a sweet tooth that needed to be satiated. One ordered the creme brûlée and the other ordered a peanut butter chocolate pie. The creme brûlée was overdone and the texture was off but the flavor was good. The peanut butter pie was amazing and disappeared quickly! This place is the new favorite lunch place now! read more

It is simply too expensive for the quality of food and dining experience. I think you can get just as good a meal for half the price at any number of places. I ordered the waygu beef ribeye ($80) and a side of blue cheese mashed potatoes. The first steak came out way over cooked. The server was great. Never even left the table before I cut into it and she saw it was over cooked. The replacement took a few minutes to come out. Hey brought me a free additional side. The steak was flavorful and tender but didn't feel like an $80 steak. The others had the stuffed chicken, which was very good and around $38, and the salmon, which was ok but wasn't exceptional despite the price being fairly high. What a fabulous find on our drive from Dallas to El Paso in Abilene! Great ambience, impeccable service, yummy food and welcoming and pet friendly in the patios which I are very pretty. The crab cakes are nice and crispy but more standout is their Caesar salad and salmon. Our hotel owner recently treated myself and another general manager to a Christmas celebration dinner at Copper Creek. The timing was perfect, as it was relatively early, and the place wasn't too busy, allowing us to enjoy the amazing service. We started with the calamari, which was great, but the real surprise was the fried cactus - definitely a must-try. Very nice decor, thought maybe I was underdressed, but felt comfortable enough to continue on into dine. We did eat in the bar. Ordered filet mignon and fully loaded tater. It was the best I've had in Texas yet! I had a yummy lemon drop with my dinner. The service from the bartender was perfect along with the food. Had another bartender interact with us as well. Came here last night for the first time. We had reservations at 8, we got there around 745 and had to wait until exactly 8. Which is fine that is after all when the reservation was but if you have a reservation don't show up early because they won't seat you. Whether it's a can't or won't I'm not sure but either way. Once we sat down and ate the food was fantastic!!! The baked potatoes were absolutely perfect. I know that's a strange thing to brag about but they were so so good. Most places undercook them. The drinks were good. Generally I don't factor service into my review, however, having to have the hostess run our credit card for our bill because our server was nowhere to be found for 20 minutes is not cool. It was about 9 so there weren't many people in there at the time. Overall, highly recommend this place! read more
