We dined here a year ago while in town. The service was absolutely AWFUL, however, the food was DELICIOUS. This was the only reason we were willing to give them a second chance. Our First Experience: There was only a 30 minute wait, which we were fine with. Initially, the server was friendly and welcoming. We ordered the crab dip appetizer, roasted chicken, chicken parmesan, and a kid's cheese pizza. Unfortunately, our server disappeared after bringing us our first (and only) round of drinks. Somehow, either our crab dip was never placed or just forgotten about because our food arrived, but not our appetizer. The server apologized and offered to get the crab dip reordered and expedited. The manager did come over to apologize and offered to comp the appetizer. The roasted chicken The chicken was the highlight of our table. It was juicy and delicious. The mashed potatoes were creamy and buttery! The chicken parmesan It was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I tried it once and that was enough for me. I wouldn't order it again. The kid's cheese pizza Better than average pizza. My kids enjoyed it. The crab dip DELICIOUS!!! We appreciated the savory chunks of crab and the overall flavor! The service: As previously mentioned, it wasn't the best. An appetizer was forgotten and drinks were never refilled despite being completely empty for more than half of the meal. Overall experience Even though the service wasn't good, we still enjoyed the food. The fact that an apology was given and the appetizer was comped gave us hope for a pleasant future visit. Our last and FINAL experience: I attempted to call the restaurant prior to heading over to see how long the wait would be, but nobody answered the phone. When we arrived, we were told that it would be a 45 minute wait, which we were okay with. The host did mention that we should have called ahead since reservations were preferred. She acted surprised when I informed her that I did try calling ahead. We ordered the crab dip appetizer, roasted chicken, beef stroganoff, kid's cheese pizza, and kid's chicken tenders. I'm not kidding when I tell you it was like deja vu. We are seated in the same lonely corner by the bar away from everyone else despite having well behaved kids. Our appetizer didn't make an appearance until after saying something when our food arrived. Once is an excusable mistake, but twice is not acceptable. The roasted chicken Very dry and underwhelming. My husband had been looking forward to this dish since our last trip to Abilene a year ago. It was not what he remembered at all. The beef stroganoff Good flavor, but the tiny pieces of tenderloin were dry and tough to chew. The kid's cheese pizza Very good. The kid's chicken tenders Excellent chicken tenders. Fries were just okay. The fries were barely touched. The chicken tenders were devoured. The crab dip Not at all what we remembered it being. Instead of tiny chunks of crab meat, it had chunks of cauliflower. My husband and I felt deceived when we thought we were about to bite into a delicious chunk of crab only to bite into a firm piece of cauliflower. We don't remember cauliflower being in the dip last year. It changed the flavor profile of the dip. We didn't get any bites of crab in the dip. We weren't about to complain since it was being comped. The service DISAPPOINTING. Our server pretty much gave up even trying to provide a pleasant experience once the missing appetizer was mentioned. The manager did come over and apologize and even offered to comp the appetizer. We didn't see much of our server after that. We had to flag her down to get her attention for a drink refill. Once we were finished with our meals, we couldn't locate our server. After seeing us looking defeated and frustrated, the bartender came over to check on us. We explained that we just wanted to pay for our food and leave. She apologized and went to get our check. The manager made her way over and apologized again. She even offered to send us with a complimentary dessert to go to make up for the terrible experience. I really wish that we had passed on the dessert because our server wasn't around to bring it out to us. It was like she was intentionally avoiding us. We were in no way rude to her. I'm baffled by her behavior. You would think that after an honest mistake was made she would do her best to make the rest of our experience better. The manager ended up checking on us yet again after noticing that we were still there... waiting for our beignets. She apologized again and made sure that our beignets were brought out to us shortly after that. Overall experience DISAPPOINTING!!! I was tempted to give this place only one star due to the poor service, but to be fair, the food is good and the manager did do her best to make it right. I respect her efforts. Cork and Pig is a trendy spot in Abilene near Abilene Christian University. It's one of those wood slat, metal sign restaurants that have no character besides being in a generic shopping center that pretends to be fancier than it is, so it just ends up looking like a cold soulless shell. The interior is that frigid, lifeless faux fancy industrial aesthetic that chills your senses and has no character of its own. The menu is what you expect. Nothing special or original just benign takes on traditional fare, like Blackened Ribeyes. We were In Abilene because my family gathered to watch my nephew's football debut at Hardin-Simmons University. My wife ordered the Caesar Salad and Truffle fries. The salad was limp, and the dressing was tangy like it was mixed with Dijon mustard Her Truffle Fries had an okay flavor. The dipping sauces were good but nothing great but the nail in the coffin was the fries were cold. Not cold as in sitting in the warmer cold, we're talking OUT ON THE COUNTER FOR 10 MINUTES OR MORE COLD!! I got the Waygu Smash burger. The burger patties, pickles, and everything inside were good but it was served on a fancy bun that was also cold. Not sitting on the counter for 10 minutes cold, we're talking RIGHT OUT OF THE FRIDGE COLD. Fancy buns should be lightly toasted to make the dense bread bearable. It totally failed my bun to juiciness ratio, and to top it off my fries were also COLD. My daughter got the Ahi Tuna Ponzo. I didn't taste it because I was busy eating my cold bun, cold fries. Plus my wife's Dijon Caesar Salad because she despises mustard. But she seemed to like it, that's why this review is three stars instead of two. She said it was "Slightly nutty and the vinaigrette is sharp and fresh without being overwhelming the tuna is seasoned nicely and it's a fatty cut not fishy at all." Listen, you could say "if it's cold send it back. Make them fix it." But the truth is that it doesn't matter. They sent out two batches of cold truffle fries (my brother in law also ordered some), my cold fries, a fancy bun that was right out of the fridge, and Caesar dressing spiked with Dijon mustard. This is the place to go if you want something a little more modernly updated as far as the building and the exterior. The interior is inviting as the show somebody has put thought into these chains and they help keep is pretty much standard cleanliness. Nothing to take away from here. Parking is shared with several businesses so it can be testy at times but walk just a little bit further and you'll surely be able to find something. Around one side I believe you can view the little water upon but it's $190° outside so I'm not recommended at this moment. I had the pizza and the devil eggs which or on par nothing to take away from nothing to add I would say everything on his mind you would be worth trying. The big takeaway.... I've been here two times and each time I could see the bartenders struggling but not because of their fault but because I guess management is busy cutting corners for labor because maybe somebody up on the ladder is looking at that shiny penny twiddling in her fingers at the light. Get you a bar back and stop pinching on the service you are hurting your output! The bartenders are very efficient but they are not machines. They need a little relief. Visited the Cork & Pig in Abilene during their happy hour one Wednesday afternoon for a beer and pizza. Upon entering, the place is very modern has a culinary touch and the bar is pretty fancy, great to drink a cocktail or a cold draft beer. I ordered the local Grain Theory lager, with a salty rim, was really smooth and quenched perfect after a long day working outside. I ordered the pepperoni pizza on the happy hour menu as my entree. It was pretty good, baked perfectly and generous pepperoni topping. The bartender was friendly even knew about the Grain Theory Brewery in town. The food was good, beer was great and atmosphere was inviting, recommend you give it a try during happy hour, only a star drops as the pizza shown was on the menu for $14 however I was charged $15 otherwise a great place especially for a date. read more

A nice little spot among other restaurants in a shopping center kind of area in Abilene. Plenty of parking, but no sidewalks. Initially they asked if we had a reservation for our party of 3, and although we did not, they sat us right away. There was a good selection of options on the menu with seafood dishes standing out imo. The Salmon and Crab was excellent and my coworker had the fish of the day (Red Fish) and had good things to say. Our waitress was amazing. The food was equally amazing. I got the roasted chicken with parm mashed potatoes. The presentation was artistic and the flavor was superb. My wife ordered the fish tacos, blackened, the fish with salmon. It came with a side of flash fried cauliflower drizzled with aïoli sauce. The ambience was nice. The decor was nice. The restaurant was nice. The bathrooms were clean and nice. No paper napkins, here you are given cloth napkins. The restaurant had a lot of windows overlooking a pond with water fountains. I used to go to Cork & Pig often. I called in early asking about a party of 6 for my sisters birthday in which they replied a 30 minute wait. I arrived 30 minutes later and was told there was still a 5-10min wait which was totally fine! Shortly after the same hostess I made the reservation with (didn't ask for her name but was VERY rude) came and told me it was going to be 2 more hours (about 2.5 hours before they closed). I told her about me being on the wait in which she stated she knew and that I made the reservation on the phone with her. Absolutely no effort to accommodate to us by the management or hostesses at all. The servers and food is always excellent when I go! But this specific hostess and the management not intervening or even attempting to accommodate was just disappointing for such a nice establishment read more

Wow, this place really impressed us. Trendy design and great food -- I spent 10 years in Abilene back in the 80s, and a spot like the Cork & Pig was not what I expected to find here. My wife had the asian salad, and she says it was the best she'd ever had. I had the fish tacos with mac and cheese, and both were unusually flavorful and had a great texture (I rarely eat much mac and cheese, but I finished all of this). Service was good, friendly and helpful. I appreciated the decor and general vibe of the place, inside and out, including the music. My only quibble might be that parking was a bit tighter than expected, but not a problem. We were in town for a birthday and chose to celebrate at this establishment. We spent over an hour attempting to make a reservation for 8 but they never answered the phone. We walked in and were told it would be 30-45 min wait. After waiting an hour as advised in the text notification, we asked about the wait time. A Hispanic woman walking around with an iPad told us it was Friday night and it would be another hour and a half wait. We asked about a large group that was just camping out after their dinner and she said they had a reservation. We asked to speak to the manager that was working with us and apologized when we arrived and we advised about their failure to answer the phone. She said he was conducting training in the kitchen and could not come out. This store has poor management. What kind of management conducts training on a Friday night. Furthermore, what restaurant allows a reservation to exceed more than 2 hours when other guests have waited over an hour. Needless to say we elected to go somewhere else. I do not recommend this establishment. I encourage basic training of management staff and implementation of a time period for reservations on busy days/nights. DO BETTER CORK & PIG!!! read more

I have gone for brunch three times and dinner once. The dinner was nothing special. However, the brunch was what initially brought me back the first two times. This most recent and last time has me thinking differently. Normally I would go soon after they opened and the food was great, this last time I went several hours after opening and the difference in quality was shocking. Some of my food was cold and certain items on the plate were clearly prepared differently than the last two times. The place was very busy so I understand trying to get things out from the kitchen but if you can only get food out by serving it cold then maybe a different approach is needed especially when they're charging the prices that they are. Abilene, home of 3 colleges so it's certainly a college town. With a kiddo here for college and football, we had to venture and find somewhere to eat. They Yelp reviews were pretty good, so after a football game at the stadium, Cork and Pig Tavern was the pick to try. It's located across from Abilene Christian University (ACU) Stadium. It is located in a newer retail area with other food establishments along with things like a Yoga studio and more. The ambience is nice. It overlooks the water on the back side. There is patio seating available as well. The service is pretty good. Must admit we've had REALLY, REALLY good and we've have mediocre. It can be a hit and miss. Everything I have eaten here thus far has been really good. My favorite is the salmon covered in crab with the lemon butter caper sauce. DELICIOUS! Their beef stroganoff and fish and chips also really good. They have the skinny shoestring fries seasoned just right. They get their ingredients fresh each day which explains the food quality. :) The kiddos like everything from the chicken parmesan to the burgers too. This was honestly our #1 go to spot this football season. We'll be back a few times in the spring too. read more

I have eaten at this tavern several times, and each time, the food was excellent. Cooked perfectly, presented well, and delicious going down. The drinks and service were also professional and polite. My one complaint is reservations. You can make reservations, but they don't always deliver. Better to check in early and confirm a few times. Came on a Saturday night so no surprise we had to sit at the bar, which was not busy at all for a place with a dining room wait. Everyone was super friendly especially the hostess. Smash burger was great, as were the deviled eggs and truffle fries. Only real complaint was the bartenders congregating at the other end of the bar to talk amongst themselves rather than serving customers sitting at the bar. If you end up at the bar, sit at the end farthest from the front door and you should be good read more
