It's summer so the it's hard to manage but it is necessary because my husband had to swallow his food to avoid them and I was swatting flies the entire meal. We dined here a year ago while in town. The service was absolutely AWFUL, however, the food was…read moreDELICIOUS. This was the only reason we were willing to give them a second chance. Our First Experience: There was only a 30 minute wait, which we were fine with. Initially, the server was friendly and welcoming. We ordered the crab dip appetizer, roasted chicken, chicken parmesan, and a kid's cheese pizza. Unfortunately, our server disappeared after bringing us our first (and only) round of drinks. Somehow, either our crab dip was never placed or just forgotten about because our food arrived, but not our appetizer. The server apologized and offered to get the crab dip reordered and expedited. The manager did come over to apologize and offered to comp the appetizer. The roasted chicken The chicken was the highlight of our table. It was juicy and delicious. The mashed potatoes were creamy and buttery! The chicken parmesan It was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I tried it once and that was enough for me. I wouldn't order it again. The kid's cheese pizza Better than average pizza. My kids enjoyed it. The crab dip DELICIOUS!!! We appreciated the savory chunks of crab and the overall flavor! The service: As previously mentioned, it wasn't the best. An appetizer was forgotten and drinks were never refilled despite being completely empty for more than half of the meal. Overall experience Even though the service wasn't good, we still enjoyed the food. The fact that an apology was given and the appetizer was comped gave us hope for a pleasant future visit. Our last and FINAL experience: I attempted to call the restaurant prior to heading over to see how long the wait would be, but nobody answered the phone. When we arrived, we were told that it would be a 45 minute wait, which we were okay with. The host did mention that we should have called ahead since reservations were preferred. She acted surprised when I informed her that I did try calling ahead. We ordered the crab dip appetizer, roasted chicken, beef stroganoff, kid's cheese pizza, and kid's chicken tenders. I'm not kidding when I tell you it was like deja vu. We are seated in the same lonely corner by the bar away from everyone else despite having well behaved kids. Our appetizer didn't make an appearance until after saying something when our food arrived. Once is an excusable mistake, but twice is not acceptable. The roasted chicken Very dry and underwhelming. My husband had been looking forward to this dish since our last trip to Abilene a year ago. It was not what he remembered at all. The beef stroganoff Good flavor, but the tiny pieces of tenderloin were dry and tough to chew. The kid's cheese pizza Very good. The kid's chicken tenders Excellent chicken tenders. Fries were just okay. The fries were barely touched. The chicken tenders were devoured. The crab dip Not at all what we remembered it being. Instead of tiny chunks of crab meat, it had chunks of cauliflower. My husband and I felt deceived when we thought we were about to bite into a delicious chunk of crab only to bite into a firm piece of cauliflower. We don't remember cauliflower being in the dip last year. It changed the flavor profile of the dip. We didn't get any bites of crab in the dip. We weren't about to complain since it was being comped. The service DISAPPOINTING. Our server pretty much gave up even trying to provide a pleasant experience once the missing appetizer was mentioned. The manager did come over and apologize and even offered to comp the appetizer. We didn't see much of our server after that. We had to flag her down to get her attention for a drink refill. Once we were finished with our meals, we couldn't locate our server. After seeing us looking defeated and frustrated, the bartender came over to check on us. We explained that we just wanted to pay for our food and leave. She apologized and went to get our check. The manager made her way over and apologized again. She even offered to send us with a complimentary dessert to go to make up for the terrible experience. I really wish that we had passed on the dessert because our server wasn't around to bring it out to us. It was like she was intentionally avoiding us. We were in no way rude to her. I'm baffled by her behavior. You would think that after an honest mistake was made she would do her best to make the rest of our experience better. The manager ended up checking on us yet again after noticing that we were still there... waiting for our beignets. She apologized again and made sure that our beignets were brought out to us shortly after that. Overall experience DISAPPOINTING!!! I was tempted to give this place only one star due to the poor service, but to be fair, the food is good and the manager did do her best to make it right. I respect her efforts. Unfortunately, we will not be giving this place a third chance.

The last stop during my Abilene day trip was the wood-fire pizzeria Vagabond. We arrived at…read moreVagabond exactly at 6:00 pm, impressed by their cork decor outside the shop. We were immediately greeted by the server and seated just as quickly. The place was pretty busy, as one would expect on a Saturday at 6 pm, so it was great to be seated right away. The table was already set with two water cups, two plates, two sets of silverware, and two napkins, so we didn't have to set the area ourselves. Our server came shortly after with a large glass bottle of water and took our drink orders. My girlfriend got a bottled Dr. Pepper while I stuck to water. I also noticed they serve plenty of wines as well as a good selection of craft beers. They have ten different specialty pizzas, and we settled on their most expensive: the Carnivore. I say most expensive, but it was $20 for a pizza that fed two. It took about 10-15 minutes before the pizza came out, which is impressively fast. All pizzas are about 12 inches and are sliced into sixes. If you're hungry, consider an appetizer or a dessert, but to us, it was a perfect size with plenty of meat. The crust is thin and crispy, as one would expect from a wood-fire pizza. It was really excellent. For dessert, my girlfriend and I ordered their Saturday Morning Cartoons, which is a panna cotta with Fruity Pebbles that I enjoyed but she adored (I let her eat most of it). All in all, the meal was around $30 plus the tip I added. We were in and out in under 40 minutes, which was quite impressive for a sit-down pizza restaurant. I highly recommend this to anyone living in or visiting Abilene. P.S. My girlfriend wanted my Yelp review to note that their women's bathroom has hair ties, bobby pins, a Tide pen, and other items that you never know you'll need until you do, which gives Vagabond extra brownie points for going above and beyond. RIYL: An affordable meal for two.

The beef quality was superb--thick-cut, tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned without overpowering its natural flavor. While the edges were cooked slightly beyond medium due to the uneven cut, that's a very minor critique. The grilled asparagus was delicious, and the green chile hominy was absolutely amazing. Overall, I would give Perini Ranch Steakhouse a 98 out of 100. The food, atmosphere, and quality were exceptional, making it one of the best of the steakhouses I've experienced.

We took the onions and cucumbers off our salad due to dietary issues and that left us with lettuce, mushrooms, and dressing. Our burger was the best part. It was cooked well, and the bun was soft. The strawberry shortcake was disappointing. The fruit was stewed and the biscuits were hard with just room temp heavy cream to offset the temperature of the fruit. For ambiance, it was nothing to write home about. Very busy and very loud, but it was a Saturday evening so that was to be expected. What I didn't expect was the lack of air conditioning in July. It was over 100 degrees that day, and it was cooler outside. Unacceptable for Texas in July when you're seating tables 3' from each other. Our server was good. She was attentive, and kept our water glasses filled. We may try again once the weather cools down.
