Favorite place for wine and charcuterie in town by far. Huge selection of carefully picked wines and meats and cheeses to assure pairings for every palate possible. The venue is spectacular all alone with half art expo store and half wine bar. Out back is a beautiful fire pit and patio as well for the al fresco experience. The staff Thana and Lisa are just amazing people and the bar staff they hire are equally as awesome no matter who I get there. All kinds of interesting people are encountered here each time I go. Its the kind of place the draws in the true wine (and beer) fan as well as those who enjoy a real deal unique charcuterie board to amplify any wine tasting experience. It's obvious that the owners have poured their hearts and souls into making Raw 1899 a serene oasis in downtown San Angelo. With its thoughtful menu of wines and small bites, beautiful showcase of a bar, comfortable seating, soft lighting , interesting architectural features throughout , and impressive art gallery, Raw 1899 is a "must see" when you're in San Angelo. We sat in a cozy corner with a bottle of red and charcuterie for an early happy hour and quiet conversation. Our server James was so accommodating and made us feel right at home. So much atmosphere to explore and I had so little time. I've been wanting to come here for so long and it did not disappoint. Wish it would not have been raining cause the outside fireplace looked inviting. Cozy couches were filled but I'd of easily joined there groups lol . Only stopped in for quick bite but they took care of me for some quick food recommending the Salchica sausage bites with home made ground mustard and a nice twist on sauerkraut pickled relish for a good size quick snack. We've been to this place three times- once last year and it was great. The ambiance is really cool and moody. Love the art on the walls. However, we've been twice this last month and the service was terrible. The servers/bartenders have been super young, inexperienced and one male bartender was borderline rude. The first time we went this month we thought it was maybe just a bad day and wanted to give them another try. Went back and the second time was worse. The young server didn't know anything about any of the food, desserts or wine when we asked questions. The bartender was a young man in striped black and white shirt and he was unfriendly and almost put off a "better than" attitude. The food was fine, though it took forever to come out and we never had our water refilled, never got asked if we wanted to order more wine and hardly anyone was there. It was so bad the second time we were there that we had to go up to the bar to pay our tab and just went somewhere else. The owners seem really nice, but the servers and bartenders have gone way downhill. It seemed like the staff would rather sit behind the bar and visit than be aware of the (few) tables they did have and help their customers. I hope they take the time to better train their staff and teach them some better manners. read more

First, let me say this was a beautiful building and the layout was fantastic. I recently visited Raw when my high school had a reunion. I truly liked the location and the building but the service was lacking. When I ordered a glass of Pinot the bartender actually said "do you realize a glass if $12.88?". I honestly didn't know what to say. I just looked at him and said ok? Another time at the bar, several of us gals couldn't get waited on (bartenders were not busy but talking). The guys walked up and got waited on immediately. I can say I think I was waited on the same bartender most often so not sure about the others. Lastly, being a wine bar, on a Friday night, I was surprised they closed at 10pm. Maybe I have just been in a big city too long. I can see midnight but not 10. At least with all my friends there I did have a good time. Again, the building was fantastic and so was the decor. read more

Every now and then this town gets graced with a classy, unique place. Raw1899 is all that and then some. Its got classy and thought provoking art, excellent atmosphere, and a great drink selection and charcuterie selection which in my opinion rivals some luxury hotels. The noise level was not bad for a Friday and the atmosphere was very accommodating with unique and comfortable chairs and furniture. This is a great place to bring a date especially a first date. The cost will be a bit more than your standard bar or bar/restaurant, BUT it is WORTH IT. If you want a more relaxed and classy experience and enjoy some great art. This is the place to go. I don't even know where to begin. Raw 1899 was always one of the highlights of the visits to San Angelo, I used to always look forward to it. However, my last visit left a sour taste in my mouth. The service was awful, the bartenders and servers were very inexperienced and unfamiliar with the menu. They used to have very friendly and attentive staff when I last visited in December, but now you are lucky to even get them to look in your direction. We waited a long time for our food to come out and by the time it reached our table it was cold. I believe everyone who was seated at the time had a similar experience, and my colleagues whom I have spoken to who have visited Raw 1899 recently said the same thing. You will pay $16+ for half-assed cocktails and almost $40 for a charcuterie that seems to be picked over scraps of meat and cheese. You are better off looking at the art, and then going down the street to another bar for a cocktail. read more

I was very favorably impressed with Raw1899. I knew very little about San Angelo and when my date led me into the place, I was blown away at the sophistication of the venue. The wine selection was wide and unusual, as I only recognized a few of the vineyards (and I thought I knew a lot about wine, so I learned a lot with my visit). I have a glass of Zinfandel and it was very good. The service was also very good. If you are in SA, go by. You won't regret it. read more

This place is the best thing to happen to San Angelo! It's a beautiful space, full of art, with revolving shows, and a decor that you would find in any big city, better even! When you walk in you could be in New York, Paris, San Francisco, LA... The people working there we're all very friendly and helpful, no pretense. They serve some fine cheeses and pâtés, and other lovely edibles, as well as a great assortment of wines and beers. The best thing? To be surrounded by so much art in such a beautiful space sipping your drink. We absolutely love this place. read more

This place is absolutely phenomenal. The atmosphere is perfect, and the staff is super helpful especially the owner. Now the wine selection is probably my favorite feature and they rotate them out to keep everything seasonal. The moscato I had was light and full of flavor. The cheese plates are a must and the prices in my opinion match the quality of food by far. With an art gallery attached to the sitting area it is a wonderful adult place to spend an evening de-stressing after a long week. I will be coming back there many times over. read more
