Came to visit with my son here in Abilene. He took me here, I had a Patty Melt he had a Cheeseburger. This is a classic old fashion burger joint. The French fries are crispy. The tea is tasty. For the first time I stopped by Gloria's today for lunch after reading so many great reviews. Place was busy and there was no line to order food so I ordered a Cheeseburger combo. That was the best part of my experience. Well after 50 minutes of waiting I had to go back up to the counter and ask for my order to be changed to a TOGO order as I had get home. FYI there were three other customers waiting there that long as well one of which asked for his money back and left. So I finally get my Cheeseburger combo and take it home to eat. It was a tasty burger with the fries a little stiff for my liking, but by the time I got home the bottom bun had turned to mush. Not the best experience. read more

This is my update, I hate having to do bad reviews, but that's life... First, I walked in the door and was blasted in the face with a heat that was greater than outside the establishment. (Was a balmy 80f on that afternoon.) They either had the AC shut off, or it was broken and in need of repair, either way, that was my first impression. But, the place had about 20 people eating at the tables, so I fought my instincts and made my way too a table. (This is when things got worse, let me explain in greater detail...) I made my way too a table, because I did not see any signs saying "please wait to be seated", so I sat down, and waited for about 20 minutes, as a server passed me on many occasions, I figured she was just really busy and didn't want to get sidetracked.. BUT, then I saw a party of four, enter the door, and head straight to the counter in back, I figured they were grabbing food to go. NO, apparently in this place, you head to the counter, make your order, then pay, and find a seat. There are no signs that I noticed, saying such, and the waitress didn't bother telling me....for 20 minutes..a kind lady at the booth across from me verified my suspicions about this entire ordeal, and how I had screwed up. Anyways, I got up and ordered my burger and onion rings. I ate them. I left. (Yes, this is my way of politely leaving a bad food review) I have a feeling the positive reviews are by people who work here. First and last order from Gloria's. Important note: I ordered Gloria's through DoorDash. Whether Gloria's or the delivery service is more responsible for the problems is tough to say. I'm sure each will blame the other. So it seemed only fair to leave a full review in both places. We ordered a plain cheeseburger and then a cheeseburger combo with a Diet Coke. When the order arrived we had two combos with Pepsi. Driver said that they were out of Diet Coke but that the person at the restaurant said they knew us and we'd like the Pepsi. They don't. We didn't. Neither burger was plain. Since I can't eat their burger with everything on it, I was left with an order of fries for lunch. The fries were warm but bland and tasteless. Do the lack of reviews cause you to wonder?? It is because they have a steady stream of locals who make eating here a part of their life and haven't thought to share--maybe on purpose!?!? This is a hole in the wall hamburger joint across from the Taylor County Courthouse. It has a great reputation around town and has recently expanded its hours to evenings. Check and see because I think the days very. But they're open for lunch regularly. And it is a great lunch. Limited menu burgers, fries, some sandwiches, onion rings, etc. The service is quick. You order at the counter and self-serve your drink. The patty melt is amazing and the hamburgers are it only flavorful but generous with their meat. The onion rings are perfectly crunchy without being greasy and falling apart. I highly recommend it. I went with a group of coworkers with every person enjoyed what they had and spoke about coming back. It is a jewel in our community. read more

I must admit I was a bit taken back with $10 for a cheeseburger, fries and a drink. Now that my belly is full ... I woulda paid $12 Make sure you get the onions grilled. I had a friend who swears by Gloria's as the best burgers in Abilene. I went once and was a little underwhelmed. It seemed like just a small notch above Whataburger. I was judging it based on the simplicity. Bag lettuce and store bought buns with decent fries. No frills compared to other local burger places. I don't know what I was expecting. When I went back to give it another shot I realized my folly. Gloria's is all about the meat. The hamburger patty in between the rest of the burger is one of the most flavorful I've had.
