It is a very nice place in a very small town, with very friendly wait staff. It was very crowded at 2:05 PM on a Thursday which is an indicator that the food is good. As crowded as it was it seemed to be quiet. I enjoyed the food and the environment, but I do enjoy small towns. It is in the middle of cattle country, and everyone seemed to be very nice. I would have given it 5 stars, but I wouldn't want to mislead the non-Texans among us.

I've eaten here with and without family. Jean's is consistent with their food which is good and with their waitstaff which is not good. I'm glad that they've kept their menus since covid and haven't done like everyone else and switched it up. Customer Service: One thing I've noticed about many small town restaurants is that most of the waitstaff tends to visit a lot with the local customers while on the job. Here, it's not so much of the visiting but that locals get better service than out-of-towners. I end up having to holler to get my drink refilled, get more napkins, get the ticket, etc. - 1 star Food: Their enchiladas are awesome! Both the beef & cheese. Also their quesadilla. I've had their appetizer sampler and fried pickles. All good. - 5 star Price: Decently priced, a little better than average that I'm happy with. - 4 stars

Just good old country style cooking. The service is good and no one gets in a hurry or rushes you. Apparently a favorite for locals.

My sister & I shown up around 4:05pm on Saturday, March 21st. There were two booths open. One still had stuff on it so we sat at what looked like the clean table. It apparently had not been wiped clean. There was water and some sort of sticky stuff on it. We told the young man about the sticky stuff and asked for a towel to clean the table. The young man brought us a dry towel. We ended up using hand sanitizer to clean the table. After about 15 minutes of waiting, my sister brings attention to the waitress that we would like to get drinks. The waitress, Carson, informed us that they're closed from 3:30pm to 4:30pm due to waitress/cook shift change, but since it was just two of us and it's nearly 4:30, she will go ahead and serve us. We feel that if the restaurant is closed for any reason, no matter the length of time, there should be a sign & the door should be locked. We ordered a large chicken fried steak and fried pickles. I said that we want the pickles first. The CFS came and I reminded her that we wanted the pickles first. She then said that she put in the order and need to check, they should be done. No, we heard them being dropped in the fryer. Then, when receiving our pickles, she said that the boy was cutting pickles when we came in and so they weren't read.... I say bolony. I don't believe either thing she said. The water was gross, unsure if the glasses were dirty but I had stuff floating in mine. It actually tasted like it had another soda in it. My sister's was awful too. She went next door and bought 2 bottles of water. I told Carson about the water. She didn't offer anything else to drink or take our glasses away. After being served, Carson never came back to the table. I'm only give a second star because of the food. Staff would get a 0 stars if I could. Update: Since this review, they've updated their hours on Google.

We waited over an hour and a half for our appetizer. The brisket poppers did not contain brisket. After we have been there for so long, we were then told they were out of buffalo sauce for the Buffalo chicken salad. The pork chops were bland and the portion of Mac and cheese tasted odd and was tiny. Chicken fried steak was okay.

The chicken fried steak is made a little different than most. Not the usual type of breading. We really enjoyed the meal all was very good. The steak was tender and great flavor. Fries cook perfect and great for dipping into my gravy. Mary came around and took the order and she also went to each table and made sure you like the food. Very good service from all the staff. I'm really surprised at how many four and five stars there are. Almost nothing we got had flavor: Queso - literally just cheese with nothing added - no salsa, no jalapeños, no onion - nothing. If you put queso on the menu, I think people expect it to have more than literally melted cheese. Chicken Fried Steak - loved that the breaded parts stuck to the meat and was excited to eat, but again, literally no flavor. We didn't finish it and we didn't take the leftovers. Mashed potatoes - No flavor AGAIN. We were so surprised and disappointed. You can see everyone there busting their tails though. Those women deserve every penny of every tip left for them.

DELICIOUS! I actually heard about this place from a Reddit post about places to stop on a road trip…read moreacross Texas and I'm so glad I listened! It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! Delicious, great service, and good portions!

My husband got the deluxe breakfast. The hashbrowns were greasy, obviously not reconstituted, and overcooked. He chose a pancake instead of the biscuit and gravy. His pancake took forever to receive. It was thin and tasteless. I've had better from a Bisquick box! My tortilla was greasy. Barely recognizable as a tortilla. Had I not been genuinely hungry, I would have sent it back. I managed to eat two triangles. I tried to cover up some of the greasiness with their salsa. I've had better salsa from Old El Paso. It was watery and flavorless. That seemed to be the overall theme for this meal. Flavorless and thin on cooking prowess. Had the waitress not been friendly, I would have given only one star. $25 for barely edible anything!?! Never never again.

Located on the second story of a beautiful building in downtown Abilene sits Grain Theory, a brewpub and coffee shop towering over the city. It is a mixed indoor-outdoor space with plenty of shaded outdoor and cooled indoor seating. Looking at their tap list, my girlfriend and I were impressed by their unique beers to try. I started with the Strawberry Peach Tonic (Fruited Hard Seltzer) and she had a Bella Rose (Rosé IPA). Both were served in cool glasses, with mine being tall and skinny and hers being almost like a wine glass. Shocking to nobody, mine was quite fruity while her Rosé IPA was hoppy with an underlying rosé flavor. Next, I ordered their Oktoberfest (German Märzen) and she had their Season's End (Belgian Dubbel). She described her drink as tasting like a Biscoff cookie. My Oktoberfest was quite malty, and I was a big fan. To close, we both ordered their Luscent (Belgian Table Beer) because small beers are back in fashion and I wanted to try it. It was obviously very light but still had a good flavor that was very bready. Nice and easy to close out our drinks with. They also have food and coffee that we didn't try, but the food looked sensational from what we saw others eating. They also have plenty of board games and card games to play while you're at the brewery and many beers available to take to-go. My only minor complaint is the lack of TVs in the brewery. Maybe it's a purposeful decision, but Texas Tech was playing football, and it would be a great place to watch the game. The bartenders are very friendly and willing to let you try and sample as many beers as you need to make your decision. Grain Theory feels like the kind of place every small Texas city wishes it had. I am very excited to come back here and try more beers, especially with how excellent the space is. RIYL: Cool-shaped beer glasses or a rooftop bar
