We also ordered cauliflower mac n cheese and meatballs as an appetizer. I'm not a big fan of vegetables, but the cauliflower mac n cheese was surprisingly delicious! I loved the Greek fries that came with me entrée, but the chicken was a bit on the dry side. We all paid about $50 including tax and tip. Recommended by a local, Beatrix is a brunch place that is always bustling. We were able to snag a 1:15pm reservation the day of for three people. When we arrived, the restaurant was super full, but only the tables. The bar and high table/high chairs were not as full. They also have a bakery inside that had really good looking pastries, but I didn't even finish my breakfast so I didn't even look at them. I would definitely recommend checking it off the bucket list as a thing to do in Chicago! Bacon, Cheddar & Egg Sandwich (4/5): Honestly, a great sandwich. It was a bit big so hard to bite, but it was super filling and the bacon was nice and crispy. A solid breakfast sandwich. This would have been a 5 except for the fact that the sandwich would have been on its own, which isn't bad, but I wish a side came with it. I ended up getting the golden hash browns on the side which I think actually was 5/5. They were extremely crispy on the outside, which is the way that I like them while the inside was still nice and soft. My friend got a quiche; I honestly cannot find what this dish is called on the menu, but it was pretty good as well. It was really fluffy eggs, but no meat, I believe it was mushrooms. The fresh-squeezed juice was recommended by the waiter and honestly was really delicious. The blue boost, each of the flavors was pretty distinguishable and you could tell that it was fresh. My husband and I ate here on a Sunday evening. It's a beautiful restaurant that was close to our hotel. Lots of outdoor seating, and some seating by the open windows. The restaurant felt open, airy, and modern. I decided to have the enlightened guacamole and a Caesar salad, while my husband got the Korean barbecue chicken special. I really enjoyed the guacamole. It had bits of pineapple, sun-dried, tomatoes, and some wonderful spices. The Caesar salad was delicious, and I even took some home and ate it for lunch today. Rookie mistake of walking in on a Saturday morning without a reservation!but luckily we found a place by the bar. The food was amazing, and the bar tender serving was super sweet and attentive! We ordered the avocado toast, burrito, hash brown, and lemon pancakes. Everything was amazing! And the lemon pancakes live up to their hype! Super fluffy, and a bit tangy- perfect! My wife and I went here to try something new here in ChiTown. The vibe was really good and it was a solid mix of younger and older folks so quite balanced. We got a nice table near the bakery display case which was dangerous as it all looked amazing. We ordered a bottle or brut rose and a few appetizers to start - the chicken meatballs and brussel sprouts. Both were nice. The Brussels could have been a bit more crisp and while good, seemed more like what I get out of the case at Whole Foods or Sprouts ready to eat. Again - good but if were hotter in temperature and had crispy elements it would have been even better. The chicken meatballs were really tasty and had a solid spice kick to it as the top of my nose started to sweat and it was a tad too spicy for my wife - thus more for me! :) We split the entree on special which was a Long Island Strip steak with cheese mashed potatoes. The steak was a long thick strip without the fat along the middle like with a NY strip steak. I was not sure at first as it seemed a tad tougher to cut but then tasted tender and juicy. The mushroom sauce was a bit salty but seemed to get better with each bite. It was cooked medium well which I usually don't like but was really good and had some great taste-adding char on some edges. We took two cookies to go which I have now had a few bites of and let me tell you - They were outstanding. I got one peanut butter and one lemon burst. They were moist and totally crazy good. If zero stars were an option, I would choose zero. We arrived at 11:05am today and requested a table for two. The response we received was "we're not seating anyone until 11:30am." We asked why and the response was "that's when our lunch service starts." We replied well "that's ok we'll do breakfast." Well apparently breakfast is only served until 11:00am. "So does that mean we can't eat here?" Hostess says "Well I can try to seat you at the pastry bar and you can get a pastry." I said "I don't want a pastry." The hostess then said "well that's all we can do." Really disappointed with my experience at your Clark Street restaurant today. I've never heard of a restaurant that stops seating people between 11:00am and 11:30am and requests their customers to go sit at a pastry bar instead of a table. Honestly have no words!! Staying nearby in a hotel, we passed Beatrix several times before we had time to stop in, and it was worth the wait. A dimly lit bistro with plenty of drink options, we started with the Kennebec fries and Straight A Salad (arugula, avocado, asian pear, asiago, almonds) before diving into the Chicken Bebe and the Vegan Tortilla Soup. Good flavors, all kinds of different textures throughout the menu, and a huge selection of desserts to go with your coffee afterwards. Our party of 5 shared the Lemon Ricotta pancakes as a table starter - and wow! The texture of these gems were phenomenal, light, fluffy, yet rich with ricotta, topped with a light lemon syrup and large blackberries. We ordered the Straight "A" salad ($15.95) and the Baja Chopped salad ($15.95). Both of these were delicious but my favorite was the Straight "A" salad as I loved the mix of the avocado, almonds, pears, and their house vinegrette sauce was delicious. I ordered the hot honey fried chicken sandwich ($15.95) which was decent. Other than the fries, I think I would have preferred to keep eating the salads, which I don't normally say. But I really enjoyed their salads and felt very healthy eating it as well. Beatrix also has a variety of items such as their restaurant itself, coffee shop, and bar. Such a delicious breakfast spot in River North! We made a reservation here for brunch after we stayed at the Best Western around the corner, and I'm so glad we did! Beware this place gets busy on a Sunday morning. We had to wait a bit since we were early, but it went quickly and they were able to squeeze us in. All the staff were so attentive and friendly, which made this busy restaurant a breeze. It's very modern and trendy, so I see why it was packed. Definitely order a specialty coffee here, it was so delicious! My boyfriend ordered a vanilla cold brew and I have never had such a delicious vanilla coffee. I tried the iced banana Joe with almond milk which was also delicious, but I didn't like the grains of fresh banana in my coffee. It was so hard to pick a menu item since so many things looked delicious, but I went with the Shakshuka. This was rich, healthy and light while still being filling. There are lots of vegetarian options. I've been told the pastries are amazing so I'll have to get them next time! Pineapple Habanero Margarita - phenomenal!!! Not too sweet, pretty spicy, and smokey to round out the drink Avocado Ceviche - this was basically an avocado based pico. It was so fresh and perfectly balanced. Did I go here 3 times in a row after first trying it? Yes. Did I enjoy every visit? Yes. Am I now obsessed with their gluten-free white cheddar popovers? 1000%. I've been to Beatrix Market before and never been at their actual restaurants until a few months ago. I avoided it a bit since the prices at the market are pretty expensive, but I always thought their food was good. First visit, I ordered their burger. I wish there was some sauce for the burger that gave it more flavor because if there was, it would have been way better. The cook was perfect and had a yummy bun, but their garden giardiniera could have been pickled more or had more flavor too. A more flavorful sauce would make it sooo good! I am not a huge chicken person but I tried the Chicken Bebe as they ran out of fish for the dish of the day at the time. They even let me have the side for the dish of the day (whipped potatoes) since I wanted it pretty badly! But the chicken Bebe was very delicious and I could lick the sauce off the plate. Very nice and tender, and tasted very yummy with the potatoes on the side (should definitely have the potatoes added to it!) I've also tried the pistachio crusted whitefish and the wild mushroom teriyaki bowl. I didn't go crazy over either of them, and thought the whitefish could have had more flavor and the wild mushroom had to tone the flavor down a bit. But my absolute favorite thing here are the white cheddar popovers. My friend originally ordered them since they were gluten free, but I didn't expect them to taste so good!!! I am pretty sure they are made out of tapioca flour as it has the similar, amazing texture of pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread). These delectable, buttery treats are so delicious and the bacon butter makes it so much better. Sometimes they have a drizzle of olive oil on the butter and wow.... It is the most divine with that combination!!!! I have quite literally dragged my boyfriend out of bed to eat here just for the white cheddar popovers. And I was crazy enough that I would only order them and have no main dish sometimes. The service here is usually amazing! The first time we went the very nice lady was on her A game. I only had one negative experience service wise where the waiter would not take our order for 15 minutes and kept talking to random staff members instead. :( If you have been here and never really liked the food, you need the white cheddar popovers to open your eyes!!! read more

Shockingly disappointing. I heard positive reviews of this place, but ended up with a tepid experience. The food here is underwhelmingly mid. I ordered chilaquiles that had the texture of a drowned rat. The soggy pile had a generous teaspoon of avocado on it. I think there were scrambled eggs in there. If I believe hard enough it will manifest, assuredly. The watermelon radish was a gorgeous touch though. It was the highlight of the plate. You are upcharged for the presentation--which mind you--is meaningless if the food doesn't taste as good as it looks. And that's if you even get what you ordered, because that's the gag! They couldn't even get my order right! I ordered scrambled eggs, came out over-easy, unbothered, unscrambled. Ordered a medium rare steak--crawled onto the table mooing. I went to Beatrix while visiting Chicago for a wedding. It's downtown and within walking distance of multiple hotels. There was a wait of about 30-minutes but, once seated, service was very timely and attentive. Very nice, chic restaurant. Came on a Wednesday night for dinner. Arrived with a party of 3. I was told 15 to 20 minutes. Waited thirty minutes, outside. My husband finally grew impatient and the hostess says...oh you were waiting outside (after taking our #for the app). App had us first in line, despite many people being seated before us . Table we sat in was open from the beginning of our check-in. Once at table, 5 minutes for water, never greeted. Manager walking around and fixing TV. We get water, another 7 minutes before server comes to ask for drinks. Another table next to us sits down, they get greeting and water from same server. Manager greets them while they are waiting. We order drinks even though we are hesitant. Drinks take another 7 minutes. By this time bar is clear, unsure the hold up. When server brings us our drinks, we ask for ticket to close. He brings ticket, we try to give credit card right away. Server rudely tells my out of town guest to wait a minute (while he takes 2nd order of table next to us). This jerk, never makes eye contact with us once. He is rude, so we just leave cash. And no TIP because he hasn't done crap! Very disappointed by this experience. One thing to be busy but we are patronizing your business...so just tell us your slammed. Plenty of nice restaurants nearby. Ended up leaving to Fulton Market to Aba. Note that the Beatrix under there was completely empty. People have a choice. Eating out is an expense so customer service is a minimum. read more

I usually enjoy Beatrix, especially their lemon pancakes, but my recent visit was frustrating. I placed an online order at 12:00 PM, with a pickup window of 12:05-12:15 PM. I arrived at 12:25 PM and waited in line without acknowledgment from the host. When I finally got their attention, I was told my order wasn't ready. After waiting another 10 minutes, I received my food and left--only to find out my lemon pancakes were missing. I had to go back inside and wait an additional 10-15 minutes for the missing item, making me late for work. I understand it was St. Patrick's Day and likely busier than usual, but the lack of communication and accuracy was disappointing. I hope they improve their online order process because the food itself is great--but the experience was not. Highly disappointing! read more

They leave the folding glass doors open, so there are pigeons and sparrows walking and flying around in the dining area, sometimes dive-bombing the clientele. The food was very good and reasonably priced, although one has to wonder about overall cleanliness, what with the birds being present in the dining area. Draw your own conclusions.
