There isn't a lot of mazesoba everywhere in general. I never had them when I used to live in the bay area so when I was introduced to this restaurant, I was very impressed. This is definitely an underrated restaurant since every time i go they're always half empty. I always get the beat mazesoba which includes everything on it and they give you rice on the side to eat the left over sauce. It is so good and filling. My friend wanted to try out the mazemen so we decided to check this place out. It was about 15 minutes away from Downtown Flushing, and we were able to find metered parking on one of the side streets. The place was bustling despite the quiet exterior. We ordered the shoyu mazemen, yuzu shio mazemen, and crispy wings to share. The crispy chicken wings were sprinkled with scallions and sesame seeds. They were sweet and tangy. To eat the mazemen, we are supposed to (1) ripe the nori into small pieces, (2) mix all the ingredients, (3) eat, (4) and add rice to soak up the leftover sauce. Optionally, you can add some vinegar to increase the umami. The shoyu mazemen came with spicy crumbled pork(soboro), scallion, chives, garlic, and poached egg. It wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be(which I am fine with). It tasted more like a 炸醬麵. The yuzu shio mazemen came with pork belly, scallion, onion, garlic, arugula, and poached egg. It was citrusy yet very flavorful. We liked this one so much that we ordered a second bowl. Both mazemen had more gravy than I expected but they both were really good. I came here on a Friday evening around 7pm with a group of 3 and we were almost seated immediately without a reservation. The entire place was almost empty, with just one other table present. I guess because of its location, it's not as popular, but this place is BOMB. The ambiance is so nice, modern and clean, and lots of seating for large groups. There was a TV on with music videos playing but it was easy to have conversation. Also the bar setup looked great with lots of beer on tap. The menu was pretty extensive with both regular ramen, mazesoba, burgers, donburi, soba noodles, curry, udon, TONS of different appetizers. We got the bahn mi fries to start and they were DELICIOUS. Our group of 11 made reservations for 7:30pm last night, and we were seated immediately when we arrived. My boyfriend and I ordered the Beat Mazemen and the Shoyu Ramen. The mazemen here is so good! It's like a dry version of ramen with sauce instead of the soup. They give you a side of rice to mix in with the leftover sauce when you're done with all the noodles. I've tried the Beat Mazemen, Yuzu Shio Mazemen, and Shoyu Mazemen. They're all super tasty and really filling. Also I didn't know this, but they have a Monday special where all the mazemen are $12. I had Beat Mazesoba bookmarked for a while, so I was really excited to try this place. I ended up coming back another 2 times! With each visit, I ordered different appetizers. You really can't go wrong with any of the apps. I've had the banh mi fries, shishito peppers, and chicken karaage bites. The chicken is a favorite for me - squeeze a little lemon juice and dip it in the spicy mayo, and it is PERFECT. There was 1 visit where the batter was lukewarm and a bit soggy, but they seemed to be extremely short staffed that time. For the noodles, I usually get their signature beat mazemen. I like to eat a bit of it without the vinegar first, and then I add it in later. The vinegar is ESSENTIAL for me - the sauce gets to be a bit much after a while, so the vinegar lends a bit of acidity. There is a lot of grated garlic in the dish though, and I sometimes got a huge mouthful of it. Will probably try to ask for less next time. read more

I swear this place could easily be in a hipster neighborhood and not in the middle of Northern Boulevard in Flushing. The signature mazesoba was delicious. This might be the type of place that is so much more exciting in person. Our delivery was pretty mediocre. The delivery menu has some unique categories but not so many options within each. Nonetheless, my partner and I each found something to order. Not always the restaurant's fault, but the food arrived pretty lukewarm. Everything had to go into the microwave. Banh mi fries were an interesting idea, but it was overrun with radish strings, which works great in a baguette but overwhelmed the fries. The burger sounded so interesting, but in the end, it was a good regular burger. I was hoping for something a little more with the coriander aioli. Maybe it was missed? My partner got the Beat Mazeman, which was pretty good. Not sure the arugula makes sense (added too much bitterness in my opinion), and the mix of noodles and rice is not one I had had before. Came back here with my friends and was so excited bc that means more food!! We started off with the nigori carafe- this was so good! I love their cups and all their places too. We also shared a beer flight lol! For apps, we got the chicken karage, banh mi fries and the pork belly bao buns. All three were good but I think the buns are my fave! So flavorful and tender. Usually a fan of their Mazemen but this time around I had their Butcher Hanger Steak Set with sautéed mushrooms, asparagus, shrimp tempura, toast, a side salad and soup. Which was absolutely delicious and worth it! Saw that this place opened last year amid the Pandemic which was not only brave but welcomed. We only had a few ramen spots in the hood that were decent but this place puts itself on the map! I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the place was very clean and followed proper protocols for health and safety. I've been reading the many 4-5 star reviews from earlier in the summer and was happy to bookmark it for when the Winter months come as that's always the best time to sit with a steamy, savory and delectable bowl of ramen. While they are known for their Mazemen bowls (no broth ramen) and the server explains the process of how to best enjoy your food, we mostly opted for the ramen and the Don Buri's this visit. Figured in 32 degree weather and outside dining available, it was a win win. (Note: there was only two heaters working when we arrived so call ahead if you plan on doing the same). The place was simply decorated and tables were nicely spaced out. The groovy 90's music and video on loop showing the picturesque Japanese gardens and earthy vibes made for a relaxing dining experience. We have been eating at home for most of the pandemic so it was especially nice to be out even in the cold. We ordered plenty from every category of the menu except the Brewery items and the Mazemen. Will return for those in the warmer months. Must try: - Pork Tontoro - pork cheeks with onions on skewers, served with fried garlic and Shishito Peppers - Sukiyaki Don - the sauce on this I can't even begin to describe, so rich and flavorful. The sliced Washugyu beef was fatty but balanced well with the vegetables and poached egg when it's all mixed in. The pickled red ginger gave it a sharp bite and helped to cut up that rich sauce and rice. Last time I came, I had their Sake ikura soba (salmon roe soba) - which was so light and refreshing, something I really craved today on a warm, sunny Saturday. When I noticed it wasn't on the menu, I got a bit nervous... then got so SAD when the waiter said they only offer it in the summer ;( ***insert sad breakup song here*** Of course everything else on their menu was delicious so I rebounded pretty quickly :) I came in a party of 4 - they took our name/number by the door and there's a cool thermometer stand to take your temp. Our server, Eric (?), was excellent. Very efficient and prompt by holding down the front - taking orders, bussing tables, and handling takeout. There's indoor and outdoor (behind the restaurant) seating, hand sanni at every table, and all staff wore masks. Appetizers: - Mussel Pot ($12) PEI mussels in Thai green curry sauce: Mussels were soooo good. They were all plump and fresh, and paired nicely with the mild green curry. The curry itself was very fragrant from the basil and aromatic, with just a hint of spice from thinly sliced chilis. - Tempura Fish Taco ($10): could be a meal in itself, only came with 3 tacos so a bit hard to share in a party of 4. The fish was fried perfectly, with a crispy fried batter and tender texture on the inside. The mayo and slaw ties the whole thing together. - Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken): At this point, we realized we were a bit overly ambitious on ordering and started feeling a bit full from all the appetizers (but what's new -- old habits die hard). This has been an order staple for me since my first visit (still yummy with take out!). Drinks: - both iced/hot water are offered - matcha tea is $2 with hot water refills - Yuzu Matcha ($6): I cried a little at the price, but treat yourself. It was yums. - nice selection of craft beer! They do run a bit salty, so you can ask your server to tell the chefs to tone it down (recommended by our server). It was my first time trying Mazesoba and...I don't think I like it?! Surprised because it seems right up my alley. I got the beat mazemen and tbh the flavor was a bit too much for me. It was both acidic but flavorful but I think the yuzu was a bit too much. The noodles were well flavored but I felt the combo of flavors a bit strange. Egg was nice. All the apps were fantastic with the fish tacos being the most surprising. TLDR: New concept in an area with limited solid ramen options. Tasty small plates and definitely try the mazemen, the non-soup sibling of ramen. I waited for months to see what would pop up in this location. The restaurant is very pretty, they also have a relatively well-heated/roofed patio area in the back. After having discovered Beat Mazesoba, we've been here many times and have gotten to try a lot of things. The main draw here is the mazemen. A soup-less iteration of ramen noodles with multiple ways to enjoy. You can toss the noodles and ingredients first, add a touch of vinegar later and then mix it with some complimentary rice to soak up the flavors. I personally love dry noodles and just as much as regular ramen. They have different flavors but the most popular is the Beat version, a mixture of soy sauce and salt/yuzu (Japanese citrus) broths. The ramen offerings are not bad but mazemen is the star here for sure. Although they did have a tonkotsu ramen for a minute that I wish they brought back. The hot soba was solid too. I am absolutely in love with this place! I came here because a friend of mine recommended it and it is absolutely phenomenal. I love the flavors and every dish I've tried so far did not disappoint. I haven't tried the ramen yet, but each time I go, I get the mazemen, and I love it each time. I love how airy and open the restaurant is with the high ceilings as well. What a fantastic spot. We wanted ramen and found this spot due to its highly raved covid precautions. When we got there we found out the "outdoor seating" is in the back and it's in an enclosed area which to me didn't feel outdoorsy. It was our little nook surrounded by mini trees and plants and our own window. Great restaurant for mazemen and ramen! Interesting new cuisine on Northern Blvd. We heard about this restaurant from several friends who recommended it to us. I've never heard of mazemen before and it was definitely worth a try! You start off by breaking the poached egg and mixing all the ingredients together. Then you can add in the yuzu vinegar for further flavoring. I personally only added a small amount because the flavor was already satisfactory. After you finish the noodles, you add in the side of rice to soak up all the remaining sauce. It's a journey of food! We tried a couple tapas to start off the meal. Both the Chicken Nandan and the Kimchi Pork Bao were good, but I have had better. I think the sauces were a bit too strong and overwhelming the flavor of the meat. I would recommend the Beat Mazemen, which had a more savory kick with two types of meat with chashu and ground pork. We also tried the Yuzu Shio Mazemen, but this had too much citrus flavoring for me. But my wife enjoyed it, so it's mostly based on preference. Price is reasonable and the service was fantastic! Wow I was looking for mazemen for a while. My husband and I had a late lunch here on Sunday. We ordered the shoyu ramen and mazesoba. I expected less broth but the mazesoba had a creamy sauce. It was alright. They gave plenty of meat and rice to mix in after. The ramen was average. I'm giving a 3 star because we waited almost an hour for our meals. The shop wasn't crowded or busy at the time either. The people next to us were also waiting for a long time. read more

Yes!! A new ramen shop in the area, and it's actually good! I don't usually give five stars on a first review, I would say this is more like a 4-4.5 but bumping it up to support new local businesses during this time. Overall a pretty good new shop around the area, mix some yummy noodles! I haven't has mazemen before so wasn't completely sure what to expect, it came out surprisingly good! The flavor was just right for me, my friend thought it was a bit heavy, but I liked it :) They check your temperature when you walk in, there's seating in the back but it gets a little busy. Very friendly staff! They'll explain how to eat it if it's your first time trying! So rip the seaweed first and mix everything, try the flavoring and then add some vinegar based on your liking to try a different taste. I personally thought it was good as is without adding vinegar. They also have a small cup of rice for you to mix in at the end with the left over sauce. Good spot to check out if you are looking for something new in the area.
