Did the whole animal dinner and had a great experience! My friend I did it with is pescatarian so we went for seafood. The dishes covered a wide variety of fish and flavors and were overall really tasty. We found the chef and other folks working there to be very friendly, and made the experience a great one overall The desert course doesn't include whatever animal you select, and while it was phenomenal I do think it would make for an even better experience if that was somehow incorporated I would love to come back some day and try it with one specific animal, I feel like I didn't quite get the "whole animal" experience you'd have if you picked a specific animal, but this was still well worth it even if seafood is your only option

I had my eye for this spot for their Whole Animal Dinners, only that their chef's schedule did not match up with my trip days. Yet, my friend and I still came for their regular pizza and pasta menu. This spot has a sports bar vibe, but a fancy dinner lighting, with low key servers and hosts, but their whole animal dinners would be fine dining price. It's a whole lot to take in. While I was very sad about not getting what I wanted for months, I ended up splitting a beef tongue and bacon pizza, a small pasta, and got a shot of Canadian whisky with their house beer. Everything tasted great, I'm not much of a pizza fan but this place stole my heart. Whatever they do with the crust is just super fresh, wasn't dried or tough, very chewy. I had thought beef tongue on pizzas would overcook it, as their thin slices would cook pretty quickly. Their house beer was pretty light, a lager, the packaging is that pizza box design on the can. Nothing fancy, goes down smoothly, goes well with the pizza. Will definitely try to make it out here for their Whole Animal Dinner. It's a 6 course (5 savory, 1 sweet) meal based on a specific protein you have chosen from their list. Adjust for your adventurous levels. Add in wine or beer pairing. There is another option with more courses, my stomach hasn't been able to fit that much, 5 course is fine with me. If I stumble upon the wrong date again and miss this dinner, I'm still trying out more of their pizzas. For the first time, I'm eating pizza not because of sustenance, but for the taste.

Great crust: thin, crispy without being dry (not easy to do), flavourful with nice blistering. It is obvious they are very skilled in fermenting their dough. The staff were very friendly. It's very refreshing to find a place that can actually make a great crust; only a very very minor few places in Toronto can accomplish this.

Beast pizza has become my favorite pizza place in Toronto. The first time I ordered it, our DoorDash delivery was two hours late. Even with the pizza being completely cold, the pizza was still very, very good, good enough for me to give it second try, and even a third try. I've tried their Beef Tongue and Bacon pizza, their mushroom pizza (with meatballs), their meatball pizza, and their Maccheroni w/ Wild Boar Bolognese. They were all pretty spectacular. Even the crust was good. Definitely due for an actual visit to the restaurant and try it in person.

Pizza review: This was primarily an acclaimed American/Canadian contemporary restaurant known as "Beast," but renamed to "Beast Pizza" in 2022, and changed to a humble Italian bistro. Open 5pm-10pm (yes, 5 hours) every day, closed Monday & Tuesday. Nestled on a residental street corner, it is about a 4 minute walk down some blocks from the renowned, original location of North Of Brooklyn pizza shop. Ordered 16" "Plain Cheese" pie (largest size available; $27), asked "nearly well-done." No modifications allowed (which was perfectly fine). Dough was the standout here: imagine the best, freshest, bread loaf/baguette you ever had. This is what you get here. The edges were superbly airy, and had a nice outer crispiness. Properly thin centre area. Very neutral flavoured. Found the pie to be very bread-centric (which was tolerable since the dough was akin to superb freshly-baked bread). Also, since there are no modifications allowed, the minimal level of toppings made the top-side of the dough cooked (almost) well-done, and this made consuming this bready pie significantly more enjoyable than most other pies. Also, the dough held up fantastically for a well-done pie, with barely any black spots anywhere (sparsely on the outer edges top-side). The cheese and sauce (which was a tiny hint of sweetness) were nothing special, and were "good." No strong herbal, savoury, or "umami" flavour notes. Easily one of the least greasy pizzas we've tried to date, and quite lightweight. Also, arguabley the most impressive pizza box art in the whole city (maybe the whole province). $27 for a "good" 16" pie is not as good as NOB's $26 for an 18," but this is an independent local restaurant/bistro, with other non-pizza, (New World) Italian-themed items (akin to "Conzo's"/"Sugo"), and an intimate atmosphere (probably great for dates and casual get-togethers), so fair premium.

So this is a review for their whole animal dinner and it was absolutely mind blowing. We went to Don Alfonso 1890 a few days later and wished we came back here instead! Their pizza also looked amazing and I was dying to get a pie along with dinner (or borrow a slice from neighbouring diners) but alas, I will need to be back! Unbeknownst to many, Beast Pizza serves up a delicious multi-course nose-to-tail tasting menu of an online pre-selected "theme" that ranges from chicken all the way to elk, venison, bison, offal, and more with your choice of how adventurous you feel (high, med, low). Vegans need not inquire! Although, I'm sure they could make some kick-@$$ vegan food too based on how the chef flavours his food. We came as a group of 7 and selected Elk with a "high" adventurous level. Book well in advance as it's a small restaurant. you also require a min of 4 people for the whole animal dinner. Won't go in-depth into each of the courses as you can look at the pics, but everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and flavoured. The things that you'd expect to have either a gamey of irony taste, there wasn't any (although I personally wouldn't have minded). A great example is the elk heart tartare, one of my fav courses. If you didn't tell me it was heart, I would never have guessed! Better than beef tartare. The elk tenderloin and chop were *chef's kiss*. Perfectly cooked and paired with amazing sauces on both. Everyone's plates were literally licked clean. Massive hats off to the Saucier because the sauces truly elevated the dishes. Lastly, the service was top notch. Very attentive and great recommendations on drinks, etc. They also include tip as part of their pricing. This place does no wrong. Highly recommend to anyone for any occasion and will definitely be back as I am eyeing both the bison and offal! Bring on the sweetbreads, liver, kidney, stomach :)

Sliced bison ribeye with smoked sweetbreads, smoked parm sauce, and lobster cream sauce!

If you are looking for the same food you can get someplace else, for less, then go there instead, please. But, if you have some spirit of adventure, love something genuinely original, thrive on creativity in the conception and execution of truly great food, then you have found your destination -- and that goes triple for the Whole Animal Dinners, which simply have no comparison anywhere. Be brave, and jump in!

We were in Toronto on vacation for a week & the only reservation I made ahead of time was at Beast for their Whole Animal Dinner. We chose duck with a request for weird & adventurous. The restaurant is charming, lively, & inviting...everyone was incredibly friendly. Chef Nathan is an artist & it was a joy to watch him in his element...it instantly calmed me. He has a quiet confidence & excitement about cooking that comes through in every dish he serves. The food was exquisitely creative...I was surprised & delighted over & over again. There are no words to describe these unexpected flavor combinations & the feelings & emotions they brought out in me. You must experience them yourself, like any great work of art. There was nothing to criticize, it was perfection. I didn't wish for even a grain less or more of salt. We were so enamored of this spectacular feast, that we inquired if it would be possible to come back again before leaving town & our request was granted. It was even more marvelous the second time. I feel incredibly lucky to have eaten at Beast & met Chefs Nathan & Scott.

We came on a rainy Thursday evening, so there were not many customers. Amazing food and great customer service!

    Uncle Tony's Meatballs

One of my favourite staples in the city. A great environment with amazing people behind the curtain. The food has always been amazing but my go to on the regular now is the beef tongue and bacon pizza with uncle Tony's meatballs. Trust me when I say it's that good good.

    Beautiful Sunday Morning "Munch Brunch"

Speechlessly delicious and creative cuisine. The Mrs & I were in town for a Baseball and Foodie Tour. Beast out lived the pack of eateries we visited and finished FIRST. Our experience, Sunday brunch style: fried pickles, "poutine", fried gnocchi, gravy of the day, cheese curds, this Planets Best Bloody Mary, pork belly, peameal bacon with two eggs, house potatoes, chocolate chip French toast, which melts in your mouth, and crab cake Benedict! We walked to the Beast to build a heartier appetite, sadly however, a public transportation was required on our way back to the hotel for delicious food coma nap. "Excellence tucked away in an unsuspecting neighborhood."

The bartender was also the host and server... He moved two different parties to different seats while we were literally chewing our main courses... Unacceptable and poor service... The sad thing is that there was no way to complain or say no and we had to comply... I would strongly suggest that the restaurant management reflect on this disrespectful action of forced immediate seating of new customers to the detriment of already paying customers who are part way through their experience! What is the point of tipping staff with tequila shots only to be treated as second class customers???? Do you not realize the optics of moving 2 different bipoc customers so that white customers can be immediately accommodated????

This just topped my list of great brunch places! The bone marrow French toast was just bursting with flavour and went beyond my expectations! Everything about this dish was a perfect match in texture and flavour ! Such a brilliant combo! I was so surprised how much I loved the salad dressing. It was so refreshing I had to pick a bottle off their fridge. Will definitely come back.

Crispy pigs ear. Its pretty good.

This place gets a solid 4.5/5 for its authentic southern Italian food and very friendly & attentive…read moreservice. It has a very homey, old-school Italian American restaurant ambience - the opposite of the stylish, hipster or touristy restaurant vibe. Apparently this restaurants gets a lot of regulars, and I could see why. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're transported back to the 1960s with the red-and-white checkered tablecloths, red chairs, old-style wax candles, brick walls, and a large black-and-white photo of an Italian family on the wall (perhaps the founder or owner's?). I could see this place being a movie set for films that need an old, classic Italian American restaurant as a setting. In addition to the décor, I love the 1960s music being played in the background. Size-wise, the inside of the restaurant isn't that big so it feels very cozy. It can get very busy and crowded after 5 pm, as most people seem to come here for dinner. We came during lunch hour and we were the only patrons there. The southern Italian touches are very apparent in most of their dishes - with heavy reliance on olive oil, tomato-based sauces (especially in the fish and seafood dishes), fresh seafood, herbs, peppers, and vegetables such as eggplant. This is in contrast to northern Italian cuisine that is characterized by rich, creamy dishes using butter, lard, and cheeses, and puts more emphasis on rice, polenta, and meat-heavy dishes (where as seafood is more prevalent in the south). Dishes that we tried: 1) Baccala (Pan-Seared Black Cod) - This was the BEST and my favourite dish here. The black cod had a crispy exterior and flaky interior, and came with roasted mini potatoes and mixed vegetables (zucchini, red bell pepper, Brussels sprouts, eggplant) roasted with garlic -- such a well-rounded and wholesome dish. The roasted mini potatoes were so flavourful, and the vegetables had a nice char. I asked for the puttanesca sauce on the side, as the fish was already flavourful on its own without the sauce. But the sauce was better than I expected - it contained actual whole chunks of cherry tomatoes and olives. 2) Steamed Mixed Fish & Seafood in Tomato Sauce - This dish wasn't on the website menu, but it was on the printed menu in the restaurant. It reminded me of cioppino (Italian-American mixed seafood stew with tomato sauce, herbs, and spices). It came presented as wrapped inside aluminum tin foil, which the server then opened in front of us on the table with steam coming out. The fish was salmon, and seafood consisted of mussels and shrimps. This dish was just alright. For almost $50, there wasn't much seafood. 3) Pizza Funghi - I liked the very thin and crispy crust, and the sliced roasted mushrooms as toppings, but I wasn't a fan of the "truffled honey" they added on top of the pizza. I didn't taste any truffle, and the honey made it very sweet. Not a fan of sweet pizza. 4) SIDES: Rapini, Brussels Sprouts, Mushrooms - They got bonus points for being able to customize the sides. They didn't have asparagus that day, so they substituted it for steamed Brussels sprouts with garlic instead - which was heavenly. The Brussels sprouts weren't overcooked at all, and they were generous with the garlic (anything with extra garlic gets extra thumbs up from me). The rapini came out chopped with a side of lemon wedge. Mushrooms weren't on the menu as a side, but we asked and they were able to make a simple side of just mushrooms. Overall the vegetables got 9/10. The chef was very friendly as he came out and talked to us. The server was extremely attentive. Great service overall.

Nice local Italian restaurant that is enjoyed by us locals as well as those who come down for shows…read moreat the St Lawrence ctr for the arts and the Meridian Hall as well as sports fan here for games. They have a great stock of wines and an impressive drink list that we don't get to enjoy as we can't handle drinks these days. We do enjoy the food and the friendly service immensely tho. Lots of options for shareable apps; excellent options on pizzas and pastas; and I am always impressed with their mains (as someone that has to limit carbs, options can be limited at some Italian restos). They are also understanding of reasonable diet requests. They have gluten-free options as well. It is more of a "quiet" restaurant in terms of the clientele chatter, at least for the times I was there, so I can hear the music they play ("oldies"!!!!)
