The pastry itself has a slight crunch which then leads to the soft creamy custard inside! Need I say more? Probably not, but I will anyway. The only reason this location doesn't get 5 stars is that the quality isn't exactly neck and neck to the location in the UWS. Service is ok, people don't particularly look happy working in this location. BUT when you compare it to what you can get here in Queens, I still think this takes the cake. Cashier is very nice and patience to explain me how to order their puff. The cashier also write down the order number on the receipt and give me the stamp card! I tried this chain in Japan and it was only $1 per creme puff whereas in America it's $5!! The puffs are crunchy and the cream filling was amazing, a little chilling and not over sweetened, it taste so fresh and never feel greasy, just the perfect taste for me. Haven't had Beard Papa's puffs in a few months and had them two days in row this week. They are incredibly addictive. The small puffs can be eaten in one bite. The powdered sugar is nice and light but if you have kids, I would ask them to hold off on the powdered sugar. It just gets too messy when eating at home for children. Powder just all over the place whenever they get their hands on these. The big puff is awesome and totally worth it. The filling is smooth and light, the puff has a nice crunch.the frosting on the puff looks sugary but the flavor is rich. The green tea frosting has a slight matcha bitterness, so you know they didn't skim on the matcha. The chocolate frosting is like dark chocolate, so also a tat of bitterness. They actually have some of my favorite type of cream puffs and I am a regular here. My favorite is the strawberry flavored cream puff with green tea filling or the almond stick with cookie filling. The only reason why I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is because they are pretty pricy for cream puffs. I wish their deals were better if you buy more, but they only give you 1$ off if you buy a box of 6. read more

Beard papa, in my opinion, is one of the best dessert stalls coming from japan. Their green tea cream puffs are awesome and and you can't go wrong with any of the flavors! I'm also a huge cream puff fan so I love trying out the yummy varieties they have. They change their special puffs every month so check out what they have off their special menu :) the only problem is there usually isn't room to sit because it's connected to a bubble tea spot but there are also benches throughout the mall. I usually love beard papa's but the one other location in NYC is in the uws which is a bit of a trek for me so I seldom go. I was excited to find out beard papa's is now in queens inside sky view mall and they share space with Gong cha bubble tea with a few seats and tables. We ordered the honey butter shell with vanilla cream and he creme brûlée cream puff which is basically a plain puff with vanilla cream and a layer of caramelized candied crunch. The cream inside each puff was good, the puff shell on the other hand just did not taste as fresh as it can be. It was a little hard and not very soft so felt a bit stale. My honey butter shell puff wasn't anything special either, just a little sweet but nothing memorable, the plain puff shell is fine as is. Maybe it was the time of day and the fresh puffs have been sitting out for awhile(it was already 7 pm). I won't give up on beard papa's though, will come back and try again. read more

This is one of my favourite transplants from Japan. I remember going to the branch on the upper west side all the time to read and enjoy a cream puff, and if I was lucky, I would watch someone scrape a vanilla bean in preparation of another set of cream puffs. Being that this is in the Skyview mall, it is manned by Chinese people, and it has lost some of its quaint charm that I was used to at my former spot in the UWS. The taste is still there though! I thoroughly enjoy the flavor of the day, and it has retained the fresh and light taste to the cream that I have always enjoyed. The menu is simple with pictures to guide you. The cream puff itself is pretty good especially the green tea one. Strawberry is good even though I'm not a strawberry person, so if I'm saying it's good you gotta try it. A little sour not too sweet still so just right. I had a honey & butter cream puff and a strawberry cream puff with their "limited" time strawberry cream. I liked the heavy cream filling that contained real strawberry chunks and wasn't overly sweet. Amazing cream puffs! Knocked off one star for how expensive it is. Good for a first try or two, but would not get regularly as it is so expensive! All flavours I got were absolutely delicious though.
