I spend a week camping with my family every summer in Pictured Rocks and always make time to stop at the Bear Trap at least once! The burgers are great and everything I order is always tasty. We got here around 9pm after taking the Pictured Rocks cruise because it was one of the few restaurants with vegetarian options that was open late. The food, vegetarian and otherwise, was disappointing. Our party of four had ordered a veggie wrap, a southwestern wrap, a chicken sandwich and a perch basket. The fish was done well, but the others were severely lacking. The veggie wrap was just some uncooked vegetables thrown together with cheese and mayo, loosely held together in a tortilla that fell apart the moment you picked it up. The southwestern wrap was similarly compiled and the chicken was bland with only a hint of salsa. The grilled chicken sandwich was just a chicken patty on a bun, missing the lettuce, tomato and mayo that was in the description. The service wasn't great either. Our server forgot about our beverage order and had to be reminded twice. A party that came in after us were told the kitchen was closed and they only had frozen items and one that came a little later was turned away completely. Checking out the sights in Munising, needed breakfast on the way to Chapel Falls, checked out the Bear Traps website, it said Sundays serving breakfast till noon, got there at 11:00, there were only 12-14 people inside & they said they weren't taking anymore breakfast orders because they couldn't have it prepared by noon. Asked about ordering lunch & they said sure, it won't be ready for more than an hour though! Looks like that area would be a good place to start a restaurant! read more

Stopped in on a trek from Munising to Tequamenon. The decor was great. Loved all the animals ALL over the walls, I wanted to grow a beard and become a hunter. The Pastie was great. Service was very polite, but slow and it wasn't too busy. If I was in the area I would stop in again. I can only imagine the fun on a busy weekend or snowy night. read more

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. First, they served us cheese curds with multiple hairs. Second, we waited over 40 minutes for food while three tables that arrived after us were served first. When we finally got our food, it was cold and highly unappetizing. Not to mention their prices are ridiculously expensive, and they have flies everywhere. I do not recommend ever stopping here. read more

Let me start this review by saying that I am typically an easy reviewer. If I think a business does poorly, I will give them three stars, two star if they are awful. As of posting this, I have never given a one star review. In order words, I save my one star reviews for the worst of the worst; and this place deserves it. Not worth the drive. Pasty was cold and nachos were ok. There was nothing special about the food at all.

Read good reviews, not impressed. Waited a while for someone to come to table, considered leaving. Delivered napkins with grease on them. Ordered a merlo, brought chilled. Fish tacos were fried (not mentioned in menu) came with tarter sauce (not mentioned in menu), to much shredded cheese and had to request salsa. Would not recommend. read more

The whitefish and chips were good but the beef pasty and the fried pickles were better! Pickle chips were sliced thin and lightly battered making them crispy and delicious and this was definitely one of my top pasty places. Atmosphere was fun, definitely the local hang out and the decor was very 'up north'. Gave only 4 stars because our waitress rolled her eyes when we asked what her favorite(s) was and because the table that was sat after us got their to go boxes and bill before we even saw our waitress again. read more

Quintessential northwoods experience. Almost like they are trying too hard to be 'up nort.' Other than that, we had great service in what was easily the quietest restaurant we have ever eaten (even though it was kid friendly for our 2 and 5 year olds). My impressions of the tastyness of this food are colored by the fact that we had been camping for three days straight so anything that we didn't have to cook over the fire or stove was going to be amazing. Wife had the Pasty - liked it though it was a bit salty I had the brat burgers - tasty and not over-cooked My boys loved the chicken fingers with what looked like boxed mac -n- cheese. read more

Unfortunately, I cannot speak to the quality of the food. My husband and I were starving after hiking in the nearby park all day and were very disappointed to find that none of the staff were wearing masks. As a healthcare provider, I cannot place by patients at risk by patronizing establishments who are not following safety precautions during this pandemic. One reason we chose to visit Michigan is that the state law requires masks in public. I know that masks have become politicized. However, this is a public health issue, not a political issue. It is very disappointing to see that this establishment does not value the health of its customers enough to follow this law. read more

... big mistake. Walking in, there was only one booth open & since it was only my girlfriend & I we decided to sit and wait for it to be cleaned. After sitting at a dirty table for half an hour with no one greeting us, a couple got up from another table that got cleaned right away so we moved, hoping to get some service. Moments after moving to the clean table an older couple sat at the dirty one and the waitress assigned to this section of the restaurant immediately got started with the couple. A few minutes later a group of 11 people got seated right next to our new table. Our waitress finally came over & asked us what we wanted to drink though decided to take the two new table's orders before ours. After being there for 45 minutes, we finally got our order taken to wait another 25 minutes for food. People had come and gone in the time we were there. Service was slow, sort of unfriendly, and disorganized. Only redeeming quality was an alright pastie (even though it was DEFINITELY not a pound of beef). read more

She flung the beer list at me, got mad when we ordered shots, walking away dropping the F bomb. She never checked on us wants to see how her food was, she didn't say hi, she didn't say thank you. We've been here during the snowmobile season and always had good luck. When we went there on August 2nd at 3pm, it was a little disappointing. It was extremely slow service. At least 5 sets of people left because they couldn't get waited on. The staff seemed overwhelmed. Tables had dishes, food, etc, from the time we walked in until we left. We had a larger group and received frequent attention from our waiter, but others received little attention. Took us 2.5 hours to have dinner. Food was ok, but not worth that wait. Hopefully the management will get some help for their workers. If not, go somewhere else till they do. read more

Yelp let me down. The service was terrible from start to finish. FYI, there is an up-charge for waffle fries, lettuce and tomatoes don't come on your burger b/c it "costs more" and there is a service charge for using credit cards. Our first bill was more than double what we ordered, we had to ask a second waitress to get drinks that were forgotten, and we had to listen to a laundry list of excuses as to why the waitress could not provide adequate service. I believe this is quite possibly the worst service i have ever experienced at a restaurant. There were only two other tables being used, and all the empty ones were dirty with past customers' food crumbs and spills still on the table. They were under staffed, and the waitress was cooking with the "chef" in the back. The waitress was nice, however she forgot to ask us how we would like our food cooked. A friend ordered a quesadilla and had it brought to him cold. My boyfriend ordered a steak, and it was completely barren of all possible flavor, not to mention they didn't even provide him with a steak knife and just made him use a butter knife. Might as well have been served a sheet of paper because that would have tasted better. They charged a $3 "service fee to run the credit card". We had to ask for menus, there was no silverware at the table, there was no one to greet us and bring us to a table. A restaurant in an area where there is constant tourism should really improve the quality in their food, I strongly believe that Gordon Ramsay needs to have a visit to this place, because that would probably be the only thing that would improve this place in any way. read more

Great bar food. Don't be fooled by the Pasties sign, they were out when we got there and we're told they get them frozen. Super cold beer, like Rocky's cold (however served in a can). Not just a clever name. We were "trapped" for about an hour after a long day of hiking. We waited about 15 minutes to be acknowledged, all the servers looked disoriented even though they weren't that busy. 15 minutes after our drinks we got our order in, 30 minutes after our order we were told the cooks kept "blowing up our appetizers" (mozzarella sticks). I'm sorry, but if you're a cook and take three shots at cooking mozz sticks......you should not cook.... on top of that, they had none of their "Fresh Pasties" as advertised on their sign. Judging by the other reviews I don't think I missed much. We were finally told by our waitress that our food was going to be another 30 minutes until it came out. Thank goodness she told us. We paid for our food, and hit the door running. She was the only saving grace, since she was honest. If you're familiar with the show Bar Rescue, this place would be a PRIME spot for it. Went there after a long day hoping for fabulous, and was disappointed. Our beverages were not refilled. All of our orders were messed up. I wasn't given my soup, salad, veggie or bread. My husband's burger missed his toppings. Our sons burger was way over cooked. My daughters burger was missing the pickle. We were offered the soup and salad bar after we mentioned the mistakes after we finished our food. We waited a long time for our orders to be taken and the waitress had a hard time remembering what we said. Our order took an excessively long time and we saw each other tables walk out. The food we did get was good but at that point no real consolation was made to make this an experience that we'd like to repeat. read more

Good Burger, we did not have a long wait as Scott did. The food was good and hot, the staff was friendly.

We got a warm meal here that was nice after camping for 3 days and hiking in the rain all day. We were excited about the pasties but they weren't anything special. Probably just warmed up in the microwave since it took less than 5 minutes to get them. Service was good and prompt. But don't go when there are only locals hanging out. There were about 8 locals at the bar when we went and we felt ostracized. They kept saying loudly "we can't, we actually have guests" and other comments. One person sitting at the bar actually went behind the bar (must have been an employee) and started clipping her nails less than 5 feet from us while we were eating!! It was hard to maintain an appetite after that. Overall, the food wasn't terrible but I don't think I'd go back again. read more

We loved our late-night pit stop at the Bear Trap after a long drive to the Upper Peninsula! The waitress was more than happy to serve us despite it being well after 10pm, and as we waited, we perused the heartwarming patron memorials, memories of fun nights past, cute woodland creature knick-knacks, and the regular's mugs hanging at the ready. It really gives one a sense of being part of this lovely community for the time we were there. Then, our food came, and we see why the Bear Trap has such a history. I got the aged Texas sirloin with mashed potatoes and vegetables, and my boyfriend got the messy chicken with the same sides. My steak was tender, delicious and perfectly cooked. The beef gravy was very tasty, as were the potatoes. The vegetables were probably frozen prior, but I appreciated that they were seasoned well. My boyfriend enjoyed his dinner too, especially the messy chicken, which had a combination of fried onions and jalapeños, cheddar cheese and bacon. All in all, great experience and we are thankful that they were open and ready for us at our time of need! read more
