Beef pasty with gravy and coleslaw
Kelly H.

It's a bit off the beaten path (hooray!) and it seemed like a spot with "regulars" who go there often. It was a great spot for us. I loved my pasty (super cute topper) and gravy, the coleslaw was good, too! The service could have been tighter, but it's a place where the staff know folks and to me that's very understandable. Good place!

I had lunch here yesterday and I gotta tell you it was very good. I've been traveling in Michigan this week, mostly on the UP. It was such a good time. I have fallen in love with pasties. These meat pies with vegetables in them are sort of the great grandfather of a hot pocket. That's really way over simplified. Pasties came over from Cornwall in England and Wales with the manners that came over in the 1700s. The bear trap in serves a wonderful pasty. There's is unique and that it has all the proper vegetables in it, peas, carrots, onions, and rutabagas plus a very lean ground beef, it just makes for a wonderful pastry filling. The outside of it seems to be kind of like a yeast bread dough or something that you would cut up into a dumpling maybe my mother used to make a yeast bread like this to wrap things in and make our own little hot pockets at home. This is a good rendition of it my pasty came with a bear on top of it. It came with some coleslaw, very good coleslaw. It also came with a serving of brown gravy. It was very good and it really made the perfect meal. Not too much not too little, it was just right. Goldilocks reference intended.

The Bear Trap is phenomenal We very much stumbled upon this place yesterday. My husband and I both ordered a patsy. Our first I'll admit. I had the vegetable filled with potatoes, carrots and rhubarb. My husband had the beef and veg with a brown gravy. Both were savory, perfectly seasoned, and downright addictive. We decided to visit again today after a 10 mile hike that was near by. We both ordered the white fish dinner. The white fish was a pan-seared, flavorful fish served with creamy homemade mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, and warm bread. My husband originally wanted a club sandwich but switched after hearing my order. He was thrilled he did. Incredible food, attentive service, and worth the short drive from town. Highly recommend if you want home cooked food with friendly service.

Looks unassuming.

Kelley took great care of us. After a morning of hiking waterfalls (Mosquito and Chapel - both great!) we were ready for a hearty meal. The beef pasty was terrific and the shrimp basket hit. We'll be back next time we're through. And maybe have a beer.

Breakfast sandwich with a side of breakfast sandwich. Crispy bacon. 10/10

I love this place. The lady who served us was super helpful and hilarious. Food is good! Tried several breakfast items and no disappointments. Enough room for a few groups. Plenty of parking for sleds.

Holy cow awesome place! Ambience on point. Bear themed. TouchTunes juke box. Free wifi. Cole slaw is just great! Perfect sweetness and tart/tang level for me. First met Heather, simply amazing and hilarious. Then met one of the owners Dawn. Just great people! Dawn also owns another restaurant near this one called Bear Den. (Currently closed on Tuesdays she said). 2 pool tables. Sweet decor. Great fruit pasties, pulled pork Sammy with pickles and cheese (recommended by Heather) was the best sandwich I've ever had probably. So you can change the sauce of the pork sandwich. Which is nice! The bun was phenomenal also. It doesn't come with cheese and pickles so you have to order it like that. First time and an overall 5 star experience.

I believe if you are a local this is your place. Service was much better for other tables. The food was ok, but the breading on the fish was not seasoned at all. The Mac and cheese bites were good. Grabbed some pastys, for the road. Decor was backwoods with some awesome taxidermy. The restaurant was clean and well kept.

The last spot my Dad and I ate together.

The Bear Trap Inn was my Dad's favorite place in the Munising area. Whenever I came up to visit him, we always ate here. Sadly, he recently passed away. While my wife and I were recently up in Munising, I knew we had to come to the Bear Trap Inn one more time. Well... it was twice. He knew that I loved Perch. In the UP there are plenty of places to get great Perch, but he always felt this was the best. Honestly, I can't disagree with him. The Perch here is always fresh. Prepared with Just a light breading and fried to perfection. Plus, you can't go wrong with waffle fries. My wife had the Walleye, which tasted amazing as well. Fresh, seasoned perfectly, and most importantly not over cooked. The service here is always friendly. It's a comfortable environment inside. When you sit at the bar, you feel like you're among friends and family. If you find yourself in Munising, drive about 15 minutes outside of town to the Bear Trap Inn. You'll be happy you did.

My family and I enjoyed lunch here. The decor was cool and fit the 'bear trap inn' aesthetic. Are waiter was very sweet. This was our first time trying pasties and they were pretty good. The food was pretty yummy and classic.

After a five mile hike, this tastes like heaven

Small portions of diner-like food. Baked potato still wrapped in foil. One slice of bread per person.

We had a large group and were able to push 3 tables together. The bar has just about any drink you can possibly think of including speciality drinks, beer, wine, and liquor. The bartenders are always super friendly, have gone several times. We finally decided to grab some food and couldn't believe we waited so long to do so. Chris, the manager/owner was awesome. He helped us all narrow down what to order and hot to customize to our liking. He also spent time getting to know my group and sharing places around the town we should dine at. Here's the thing, everything was outstanding. The broken fries and chicken tenders are so crunchy and seasoned perfectly and the dipping sauce was delicious, I added on some hot sauce and even that had great flavor. I love a coleslaw that is vinegar base, and this one was not soggy like normal vinegar based slaws. The Ruben was unique, it was pulled corn beef, a good balance of sauerkraut and sauce, held together in a rye hoagie! But that Chicago style Italian beef, just a delicious mess of flavors in every bite. The peppers have such great flavor, and the house made cheese whiz really added a classic taste. We all shared some pumpkin bread pudding and wanted to eat a whole tray each. Go here, you will not be disappointed.

We prefer bar service over dining service, seem to be generally more attentive and the two staff work as a team. Brandon is waiting on us. He's friendly and good at customer service. Ordered the whitefish dip, baba Ghanouj, superior whitefish tater tots, tabouli salad, superior whitefish chowder, superior whitefish tacos with black pepper fries and a spicy crispy chicken sandwich and cabbage slaw. $111 They do charge a 4% transparency fund: employee retention, living wages, staff happiness. Written on the bottom of your bill. The dishes are scratch made, in house. Nice! The tabouli is too, has some mixed greens in it. There is something sweet in the dressing or the buckwheat, not my thing at all. Rest of the salad is good though. The baba ghanouj on its own is quite garlicky, slight Smokey flavor to it. It doesn't work with the pita crackers. Not loving this at all. The whitish dip is good. My hubby liked the sweet pickled for watermelon rind garnish, I didn't like them much. The spicy chicken sandwich on the brioche bun is really good. The chicken is super crispy. It's quite good. The whitish tacos are good. The whitefish seems to be blackened, really nicely. The fish is light and perfectly cooked. The whitefish chowder is so good! The tater tots are so delicious. No slouch here. Crunchy and so yummy! Food was so unique and quiet food. The side pepper fries are and slaw ate both a bit blah, compared to the majority of our flavorful meals Service is top notch.

As we were waiting in line a bartender walked past and mentioned a free table with seat yourself FCFS in the tap room. We snagged the table and were greeted immediately. We ordered a carrot cake cupcake to share for dessert. This was our least favorite part of the experience, but my partner's only complaint was the surprise golden raisins. He's not a huge fan of "pieces" in his cake. I loved the frosting, although it wasn't traditional cream cheese frosting. It was decadent and rich. 8/10.
