Small family-run fish shack. The fish was made to order, very fresh, perfectly fried and simply delicious. Warm cheerful service, but note it's cash only. Overall Yum!

The fish is gluten free breaded. The breading The fish is gluten free breaded. The breading is a very light cornmeal and herbs. The seasoning is perfect and the whitefish is so light and delicious. We came here four years ago and it is even better than I remember. So delicious a must stop if you're in Munising. Sam the owner is the chef and he's such a great guy who takes great pride in his products. Always a delicious meal. We stopped in our way home from a trip and had the broiled whitefish. I had lemon pepper seasoning and my husband had Mediterranean seasoning. Coleslaw and hand cut fries were fabulous as always. Love this version of the whitefish. Thanks Sam your the best!

We were hungry. It was 3pm and we had just returned from a 2.5 hour cruise to Pictured Rocks Nat Lakeshore and poor planning had us miss breakfast and lunch. The Fish Basket came to the rescue. This is the type of restaurant I've always dreamed about finding. A stationary food truck with a sixties vibe. There are no frills -- just superb food served to take out or to be eaten in a parking lot full of tables. A picnic where someone else cooks. The only thing missing was beer. We ordered a fourth pound of whitefish w/fries and an order of butterflied shrimp (no fries) for $23.00 total. The fish was crispy, juicy and fresh caught this morning. Awesome. The shrimp were probably frozen (there being no shrimp in Lake Superior) but excellent, deep fried to perfection, juicy and succulent. I would order again. The only disappointment were the fries. Maybe an off day, but, ours were limp and lackluster. I wouldn't order them again. Which is OK as it leaves more room for the excellent fish. The ordering experience was stellar. Friendly, efficient, pleasant and nice people. We sat at a table in the lot. Our name was called and we collected our food. Cups of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce come in the baskets They have bottles of ketchup, hot sauce and vinegar available for the asking. There was a lull in the business so the chef chatted and joked around with customers via mic and speakers. Very entertaining. Then he came around and offered extra fish to everyone. Classy and nice. We tossed our trash, returned the ketchup and mentioned we were heading to Miner's Falls. They kindly gave us insight on local road construction and directions on how to get to our destination. Super friendly. If I lived in Munising I'd be a regular. Since I don't I'm sending all my friends there. They won't be disappointed. You won't either.

OMG yes I'd like to pack this food truck up and take it home with me. Who would have thought that the most amazing fried fish would be found in the UP? We spent the day out on the lake and had to fill our bellies. Checking Yelp, this looked to be the place. Everything is made to order so it took a bit of time but everything was on point. Great tartar sauce, fries were done to perfection and the slaw was nicely made. Don't let the food truck scare you, seating was available and they have an inside area in the garage if the weather is sucky. Be prepared for a wait - the line looks like it can get long and each order takes a bit to make...

As a fish lover, this place rules. Yep, if you want ambiance and flair you will be disappointed. However if you're looking for fresh fish (cook what was caught that day), cooked in a fish camp like set up, and aren't too good to eat at a outdoor table this place is for you. Great value. Great fish cooked just right

Fish is great and fresh. The lemon pepper on the outside of the batter is perfect. Not sure if this was because of COVID, but their opening hours were a bit of an issue. Google said opens at 12pm, employees said when we went at 12pm that they'd open at 2pm, but they ended up opening at 3pm. Signage could be improved about intended opening very easily.

Heck yes! I mean a tiny food truck with a cute shack to sit in while you wait and eat is the best thing. I loved this little place. No frills but who cares when the fried fish is perfection and served piping hot with hand cut fries. My husband and I shared an order and it was so worth the wait. I liked the tarter sauce but the coleslaw portion left a little bit to be desired. I would come back in a heart beat.

This place was INCREDIBLE! We were not expecting such delicious whitefish. When we arrived, we were greeted by a couple who, after we ordered, gave us a small sample to eat while we waited. The seasoning on the fish is just spectacular and the service was so friendly.

Fun place to stop and the fish was excellent! The owner is a riot. The old stuff in the eating area is interesting.

They had to open a bit late the day we ate there because the whitefish had not gotten in yet.

Went on the recommendation from a gas station clerk, she mentioned Gordan Ramsey had visited (or…read moresomething). I picked up a 3 piece fried trout basket which came with slaw and fries. Everything is fresh!! They get the fish from the fish market behind them so you know you're eating a fresh catch then the bread and fry it while you're waiting. The batter was super thin and tasty. My 7 year old couldn't get enough! Turns out Gordan Ramsey stopped here after his producers had and then ended up filming a segment called "Michigan's Yooper Cuisine," on his show "Unchartered". Pretty cool tidbit of information.

Due to winds they didn't have any trout since fishing was cancelled that day. So that meant double whitefish in the Cap's Basket, and the whitefish was delicious. Thin breading, flaky, and piping hot. Every order is cooked to order and the fries too. The coleslaw is crunchy with the perfect amount of acid to balance out the creaminess. The fish sandwich was the perfect ratio fish to bun. The homemade tartar sauce is the perfect accompaniment and doesn't over power the fish. Seating is outside only to plan accordingly. Between the freshness of the food, the service, and the price point I Highly recommend!

Fish options are cod, perch, walleye, and whitefish but perch was sold out at the time of my visit so I ordered the 4-piece cod. There were two people ahead of me ordering, which I took as a good sign as it was late afternoon - too late for lunch and too early for dinner. Fish and chips (aka potato wedges) are cooked to order, so there is a bit of a wait. The weather was beautiful so I took a few moments to wanders around. The others waiting for food were telling me it was the best they've had, so I was really excited when my order was up and the container was brimming with food. Service was 5 stars - the man working was so friendly and he was working really hard keeping up with orders. I was surprised there was only one person working. Food - I hate to be a downer, but it was not as amazing as I anticipated. It was very fresh and the fish by itself was terrific. However, I felt it was overly breaded and very heavy on the pepper. The chips were also fresh but overly seasoned. One order of a 4-piece was plenty for 2 people and we had quite a few leftover chips. Love the concept of a roadside Fish & Chips food truck, great service, but as a somewhat proficient fish & chips connoisseur with experience in both Wisconsin and England, it was not up to parr. (get it... parr: a juvenile trout/salmon)

You cant go wrong with the pizza - sometimes it gets a little burnt (I'm not a fan of a very toasty pie, so this is very sad when it happens!) I also love their popcorn. They often have good specials on the board - got a great turkey club this summer! Their ranch is usually very good, too. I don't eat fish, personally, but everybody I know likes the whitefish options. Their house salad is good and comes with a lot of toppings, I do miss the ole salad bar. :'( As for the beer, I love their blueberry blonde. Their Harvest was GREAT but I never saw that this fall, not sure if I just missed it. (Please make that more!) I'm not a huge malty fan, so sometimes it is slim pickings (they only have space for a handful on tap at a time), but there is usually an option of two for me on tap. They do also have a full bar if you're more picky than I am or are just a fan of canned drinks/cocktails. The service is almost always good even if it can be a smidge slow at times. It can sometimes also be quite a wait for a table (with nowhere really to wait inside), it is only really a bummer to have no tables available when they won't open the back room, though. :/ Otherwise, it's understandable! Overall, I'm sure some of my love is nostalgia and vibes, but it really is a great option in town. *They do live music sometimes, the jukebox was free when we were in in the fall, so that was fun, too.
