Considering this was the only place around the area which served pasties and on our way out from the trek, we decided to give it a try. Our pasties were not too great. Just a bit bland for us. We did like the beef gravy that it came with. Our table also ordered a dinner entry which came with salad and soup. The salad was decent with pasta options. Soups were obviously out of a can -chicken dumpling was not our fav but cream of mushroom was ok. The grilled chicken burger was not cooked properly and was pretty dry. The black bean patty had nothing going for it and came with a slice of lettuce and tomato when it claimed to have 'vegetablr toppings ' The fish basket comes with fries which were decent. My hubby and I stopped in on our trip. Both got the pasty lunch with slaw and gravy. They were the better pasties we had so far. I find all a little bland. The server was awesome. Sadly, signs everywhere about tipping your waitress. A little overkill but I understand that people dont. The waits only make $4.50 an hour. Im a waitress and dont agree with this whole idea of tipping and the owner barely paying the wait staff. Tipping should only be given for service over and beyond. I've never made a Yelp review, but this experience moved me to do so. Ordered a pasty, which was pretty flavorless. The crust was good, but the potatoes were undercooked and the filling had almost no flavor. I would recommend seasoning the filling pretty liberally with salt and pepper before assembling. The gravy, which cost extra, was the saving grace of the pasty; it was pretty decent gravy. The wait staff on the other hand was very friendly and did a great job. read more

Where do I start? The service was slow although the place was not occupied much. It took them around 15+ mins to get a beer. We were still being patient hoping that food would be good. Food was served about 10 mins after the beer. Apart from the fries and waffle fries almost everything was not what it said on the menu. My wife ordered grilled chicken sandwich which as per the menu has lettuce, tomato and mayo. All she got was just the grilled chicken patty and the bun. We asked the waitress for all 3 and she returned with just the lettuce and tomato. My wife was super frustrated at this point and continued eating it as it was. Chicken was cooked alright. For my dinner I had ordered southwest chicken wrap. It had all the vegetables and grilled chicken but no dressing. Grilled chicken was cooked alright although it was really cold. It's an average place to go to. It's a good spot to eat after a day of hiking or exploring the wilderness but not something I'd go out of my way for otherwise. Definitely understaffed- I saw about 2-3 sweaty waitresses running around and serving the entire place which is probably why everyone's wait times are so long. I got the pork chops which came with green beans and a choice of baked or mashed potatoes or french fries. A potato is a potato, you can't really mess up a baked one. The green beans were either frozen or out of a can and mixed with garlic powder and black pepper which made it taste okay. The pork was kind of lukewarm and pretty bland. Would give this entire dish a 2.5-3/5. My boyfriend got the messy chicken with french fries and also green beans. It was okay. Would give it also a 2.5/5. Both dishes came with soup and salad, which was self-serve at a mini bar. They say the soups are homemade and they weren't bad- the day I went there was chicken soup with dumplings and cream of broccoli. The salad had good options but the lettuce was....limp, wilted and going bad from sitting out for so long. I'd give this place a 2.5/5 if I could give half stars. I've had better, but it wasn't the worst place to have stopped by to eat in the area when everything else was closing or fast food. read more

This is definitely the local pub. It has a fun and light atmosphere and the wait staff are friendly. I just didn't like the food. My friend and I do our best to eat at the local hangouts because most locals don't spend time at a place where the food is only so so. Nothing on the menu really exciting. My dinner was ok, but all I had was a taco salad and the bill was over $15. My friend had fried shrimp which was overcooked and over $17. Spent three days in the UP and couldn't find a reasonably priced place with good food. This had been a recommendation so I was especially disappointed. Won't be going back. read more

"A place where everybody knows your name" comes to mind as you enjoy great food while the locals hang out at the bar swapping stories. We feasted here in between backpacking trips, and came away very full with delicious food each time. Loved the map on the wall that shows people dining here from around the world, from northern Russia to Tasmania. My son enjoyed the huge, half-pound with cheese and bacon Kodiak burger, while my daughter feasted on the smaller version called Brown Bear. Fries were lightly seasoned and delicious, both regular or waffle cut. Pasty wasn't the best that I have had as the crust was too thin and rather bland, but coleslaw was creamy and tasty. Homemade deserts top off the meal nicely. We loved the sundaes, with thick chocolate sauce and a cheery on top. read more

Thought we would stop in and try the pasties in this place. We can in and did see they had tables closed off to make sure they kept social distancing. Everyone that we saw entering had masks on. All the tables were occupied so we elected to sit at the bar. From there you can see into the kitchen no one had a mask over their mouth and nose. All of the servers had one only a couple of them had them on correctly. Our server Tom didn't even try to pull his up over his mouth and nose. Lots of snide comments about the governor forcing them to where one... We ordered drinks and should of left. But we thought we would work through it. I knew right when the waitress said the food would be 30 minutes we would be in trouble... it was interesting to watch multiple tables order after us then get their food 30 minutes before we did. I thought, maybe it was the steak, but the second table of 5 that had sat behind us got all their food in a timely manner including a steak. We did not get our appetizers until 45 min after ordering them. The waitress kept blaming it on the kitchen but she didn't even stop at the kitchen. I am a waitress myself and it wasn't just the kitchen at all. We didn't get refills for 45 minutes either. It seems hard to believe that the kitchen kept making other tables' food who ordered 30 minutes after us but didn't make ours. Even if they didn't, wouldn't the waitress check in on how our food has taken an hour and other tables had normal times. On top of that, she never came back to say anything about the extra time. I never, I mean NEVER leave a bad review. BUT I feel like people who are traveling and out hiking looking for food and drinks should have a heads up on this place. The food was no good! My husband ordered a 2in pork chop. It was a couple centimeters tall and no more than 2 in long. Over cooked and bland. I ordered the walleye it had no flavor and tasted like it had been sitting in a water bath for days. It was mushy and flavorless. Over priced canned and frozen food. They offer a salad bar BUT they had no bowls for soup so no one could have any. All of the staff was fighting on the day we went in. I'm not sure what was going on but I have nothing positive to say about the place. Bad food, rude bartender. Never again! Go into town to grab your food and drinks. Bypass this place. Sorry to be so negative but I have never been more offended by a resteraunt and I am a bartender/server and would normally never bar mouth a buisness. I'll start by admitting that two stars is high but if you're at pictured rocks, this is really the only place to eat for at least 20 miles (a genius would put a Chipotle here, but anyway). It's true that the sign saying pasties is misleading given that there is only one on the menu- one pound of ground beef I believe it said. No sign of a cocktail menu either though their sign advertises that. IF you decide you must go for the novelty, as we did I guess, know that: 1. probably nothing is fresh and most things are either a fried or a burger- 2 there is a lot if taxidermy and skins on the walls (good or bad depending on your mood/desire to pet a beaver and/or bear) 3 if you're a vegetarian- hahaha- you can't really act like you expected options. It's divey- a better term would be backwoods tavern-y, it's weird, and the food did not appear to be much good though you gotta eat right? So get some chicken fingers and stop crying. read more

Stopped here for breakfast on the second day of our camping trip and had a great experience. Kelly was alone, serving & cooking all by her lonesome with 3 tables there and was still prompt in getting to us and letting us know of the situation. We were happy to be patient, but service was still awesome and had very reasonable timing! After a long first day and sleepless night of torrential rain, a hot and delicious breakfast was so comforting and appreciated. We decided to stop back for lunch on another day between moving campsites and we were not disappointed, yet again. My hubs got a burger which was actually impressive and delicious, and I got the clam strips basket, which hit the spot. Kelly, again, gave us remarkable service and even gave me 2 eggs when I asked if I could purchase a couple from their kitchen. Prices are more than fair, food is better than I'd expected, especially given the surroundings. We had a bite and drink some miles West, in Munising, off the boat pier, and food and service were pretty terrible there, so this was a really nice surprise. This is a little gem hidden (or not) in a large park with not much else in terms of dining options. We had an amazing experience camping at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and Bear Trap Inn was one of the very many highlights. We are so excited to come back next year for an even longer camping trip and will be visiting BTI again! read more

I've been here a few times because I have relatives who live just down the road. I ought to bring my camera next time, because the decor is really what makes the "Up North" experience - as you might expect from the name, stuffed bears everywhere! I hear good things about the Friday fish fries but can't comment. I really adore that they have a couple of veggie options and a salad bar. The salad bar isn't expansive, but what's in it is good and kept fresh. I liked the veggie burger I had here as well. Prices are reasonable, and the wait staff is usually very friendly and attentive, though that could be because we're always there with our relatives who are regulars. read more
