Stopped here for an early dinner. The server was courteous and helpful and the food came out promptly. 2 of us had the perch basket, which was delicious. The good sized filets of fish were lightly breaded and seasoned, and cooked perfectly. Fries were also crispy but not overcooked. Our third had a pasty, which was huge and tasty, although we thought there should have been some rutabaga or turnips in it. There were large chunks of potato, but would have liked more veggies. Big A$$ Pancake Indeed! Partner and I were touring 's Upper Peninsula for our 40th anniversary. Drove to Getmfask to hit the Jolly Inn (a bar & grill) for breakfast--great choice! Great service, delicious food, perfect up north atmosphere. Partner ordered the blueberry "Big Ass Pancake". Boy was that aptly named!! About 14" in diameter and delicious. No, he couldn't finish it; yes, he wished he could. I ordered 2 eggs hash browns and toast with black tea. More than I could finish, but cooked just right. Would I come here again? You betcha! So glad our friends brought us here while we were exploring the area. We had a nice hike at the Seney nature preserve and then stopped at Jolly Inn for lunch. It's a big dive bar with a large dining room area and the bar off to the side room. The menu includes all the best dive bar favorites: fried food, more fried food, and then some more fried food! Just kidding, there's a lot of fried food but they also have burgers, sandwiches, fried fish, dinner combos, even breakfast in the morning! Nate ordered a burger and I got a chicken tenders basket. I loved all the different sauce options - I went with the jalapeno ranch at the recommendation of our server who was a very sweet and lovely lady. I tried a bite of the burger and it was excellent - juicy and tender, not overcooked and seasoned well. I also loved the fries! The portion of the chicken tenders basket was enough to bring some home for later which was great. The MSU football game was on and we had a great time eating lunch and having a couple drinks before heading back to our cabin. I'd love to eat here again sometime - the whitefish dinner sounds awesome! read more

Came in from snowmobiling and first thing we walked in and the waiter was salty when we asked if we could sit at the other side of the restaurant then waited 1 hour for the food asked them multiple times and then about 45 minutes in after we asked we see our pancake getting poured on the griddle and then just for all our food to just come out luke warn. awful wasted our time. read more

This is one of the few restaurants in germfask. I thought it was more of a family restaurant, I didn't know it was a bar. We were excited that they had beer. Their food hit the spot. We were close by at the Seaney NWR and wanted a nice place for lunch. We didn't have to look far in this nearby town of Germfask. Jolly's is a small family run tavern and restaurant serving very good food. They had a special on Pasties, which are home made but, we opted for something else. I ordered the Jolly Burger, a 1/2 lb. burger with swiss cheese and mushrooms with a side of fries. It was delicious. My wife ordered fish and chips with slaw. Also delicious. the service was very good and quick. We will come back someday hopefully on a friday as they have a fish special every Friday. read more

I've been coming here since 1999. I can't say enough good about The Jolly. Their pasty is the best I've ever had and frankly seems to get better each year if that's possible. Their bowl of chili is top notch. Service is excellent and so are their prices. The Jolly has been a UP staple for my friends and me on every camping, hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, canoeing and hunting adventure we've take over the past two decades (with the exception of the couple of years it was closed while changing ownership). The first time we tried their pasties, they were excellent - the best we have ever had. The second time, two days later, they were not quite as good. What changed? We'll never know. The Friday night AYCE (all you can eat) fish fry was good. The salad bar does not have a lot of choices but the vegetables were fresh and ripe. The bean soup was excellent. Anyway, we really enjoyed this restaurant. It got pretty busy and there was a wait on Friday night, so plan ahead. They really should add some homemade desserts besides cinnamon rolls. Awesome service. Came home late from Grand Marais beach. As we headed back to our camper we were afraid we wouldn't find any place for late dinner. Initially, they told us the kitchen was shut down, but shortly they let us know they woukd reopen the kitchen for us and fed all six of us. Great food, great people. Awesome atmosphere. The pasty was big, hearty and flavorful with a flaky crust and a wonderful combination of meat, vegetables and spices. Went there on a Fri night, ordered all you can Walleye that was posted on a specials board. Asked waitress if I could look at menu for a few more min. Didn't get to it right away. After about five min and our order already put in I'm looking at menu and it says, Alaskan Walleye & in parenthesis it says (pollock). It's cheap fish. Our order came & our fish was swimming in the grease. Don't know how long it sat around but the bottom coating was soggy. The coating that was a little crisp on top was dark and had a burned taste, time to change the grease. Taste? You be the judge, pollock doesn't have much taste anyway. Yuck. Inside the coating, in the fish it was greasy, did they not have the grease hot enough. As for the French fries, some of the thinnest I have ever seen, not much if any flavor. Fast food has better fries, any of them. The small salad bar was ok, but then how can you screw up a salad. Service was ok but never came back when needed, like on the first couple bites to let them know how bad the fish was and would like to try different fish. Also watching other tables when they ordered more fish, the waitress didn't come back until well after they were done with there first fish, then ordered more and each order took more then 10 min to come, they should be better at getting the second orders to customers faster.
