For just $2, you can add bacon and I definitely did! Just be sure to let them know if there's anything you don't want on it. My husband ordered the Paul Bunyan sandwich and really enjoyed it. We went on a Wednesday night and waited 10 minutes to be seated at 7:45pm. Staff is super friendly. I had the 1/2 back of baby back ribs. They were tender and the sauce is sweet. I had steamed veggies and a cup of vegetable beef soup for my sides. My friend had chicken breast on top of mixed salad greens. It came with sliced tomatoes, onion and croutons. I got a burger, and it was delicious, warm, and came out fast. The service was fast. We went around 2 p.m. and still had a decent amount of people there. She told us we could do a to-go order and eat outside at the tables. She toon our order and brought our food out to us very promptly. Not many food choices in Newberry but that's ok - Timber Charlie's is great. A bit of a wait but worth it. Nice menu with above average pub food choices, friendly staff handling everything with efficiency in a packed house. We had the whitefish basket and the chicken tenders basket. One of us is a French onion soup snob and Timber Charlie's was good with one exception: the cheese was a white cheese slice instead of the thick chewy Gruyère or Swiss. All food we ordered was delicious and service by Kayla was efficient, friendly, and attentive. Appetizers: Cheese curds - can't stop on these! Pickle Fries - interesting! Onion Rings - these were giant rings :) Mains - all great! : Grass Fed "Wagyu" Beef steak with mushrooms and sauteed onions - perfectly done and delicious! Wild Caught Whitefish Dinner Beef Taco Salad Beef Tenderloin Tip Dinner Grilled Chicken Salad with avocado Steaks were done exactly as ordered, wee juicy and soft. We ate here twice while in Newberry, service and food were very good. Thursday night we arrived later (party of 5) and were seated right away. Everyone liked their food and the beer was cold. Friday night we came back for fish fry (party of 10), after waiting quite awhile with no end in sight to the wait-the bar opened up so we took every chair at the bar. Not sure when we would have been seated otherwise, the restaurant really doesn't have the ability to seat 10 people and they just kept seating everyone who came in after us, so not sure what their plan was. Doesn't matter, because the bartender took terrific care of us and we had an amazing time! A few of us got the all you can eat Whitefish, the rest got Perch dinners, kids got a variety of burgers, Mac and cheese, etc. all food was hot and very good! No one went home hungry that's for sure!! All in all we would definitely eat here again! read more

It was crowded and a wait to get seated. We decided to get our meal to go and it came quickly. While we were waiting we could see what the "problem" was. There are only a few employees and so much demand. But the atmosphere was cozy and the staff really nice. After getting back to the hotel we discovered out food was delicious!! We had the perch and whitefish platter and a mushroom Swiss burger- all cooked perfectly! We totally recommend Timber Charlie's. Cant wait to visit again on our next trip. read more

So, COVID has Timber Charlies short staffed and I don't think these one- and two-star reviews should be taken into account. How can you rate a restaurant poorly if they're short staffed because of a pandemic? They were so short staffed on my visit that I couldn't even get a pasty. Guess what? I got over it. Anyway, this is a pretty good spot even though it's one of the only places in town. I'm sure it's cooler to sit inside when there isn't a pandemic, but get take out and enjoy your life the same. Meh. My double Tito's was fine but the food was your typical subpar bar food except extremely overpriced. My daughter ordered the kids hotdog meal. The hotdog was boiled so she refused to eat it. When the waitress asked I explained why and was told 'it was grilled.' Oh, ok. Please tell that to my 8 year old. How hard would it be to say 'I'm sorry.' and take it off the bill? The fried cheese curds weren't cheese curds either - they tasted like cheese whiz and were not the same consistency as Wisconsin fried cheese curds or any other cheese curd I've eaten. Underwhelming food, terrible service. We arrived and were seated with no issue. Our order was taken as well as our drink order. We ordered a hamburger and a sandwich. We then watched as 5 other tables were seated after us, with not one being any sooner than 20 mins after our order was taken. We then watched as every one of these orders (15) were filled and served. We questioned why, and were told that our order had been lost because the ticket "fell". We said "ok" and were told they were working on it and they would give us a discount. We were not happy but agreed to allow them to make it right. After another 10 minutes we got our food. It was not cooked to our order and sauced so heavily that my hamburger was turned into a knife and fork dinner. At this point, I had enough and approached the bar, told them I wished to pay for my drinks and leave. The waitress came over and began arguing that she could have the cook remake my order and that I should be patient. I told her that I was not willing to give them a 3rd chance and just wanted to settle up for the two beers I had. I also stated that we had been waiting an hour for our food and I was corrected to point that it had been 54 minutes. She continued to argue, stating that it was the kitchens fault and not hers, and that mistakes happen. I said I understood and agreed that it was not her fault, but it was a failure of the establishment and I was done. She continued to argue with me and we eventually settled the bill and I wished her a good day, with her sharp retort with the same. As I was leaving a patron at the bar told me I needed to get off my high-horse and seemed to want an altercation because of the waitresses insistence to argue with me. I looked at him, smiled and wished him a good day as well. The service staff completely missed the mark and clearly have had zero training on conflict resolution, this is unfortunate, as I have been a regular patron for over 20 years. and am now a never patron. I hope that Lena gets better training to understand that this was not personal but rather a failure of the entire enterprise. Long story short, if you want "ok" food and terrible service then Timber Charlies is the place to visit. Otherwise just head to Pizza Hut to get good food and better service which is exactly what we did. read more

We eat perch whenever we can when we are in MI but here all the way up in the UP we ate the BEST fried perch and Mac and cheese we've ever had. Literally only got food here because my wife and I were very hungry and had no other options outside of it. We did a carry out order for taco salad and a grilled chicken salad (thought they would be safe items). We didn't have high expectations especially given that we ordered our food late in the evening. At the end of the day this place is a bar, so you're better off grabbing a few drinks and getting drunk before biting into whatever food they serve. Because of a few bad reviews we were hesitant on stopping here but we are glad we did! My husband said it was one of the better meals he has had in a long time. We took a trolley/boat ride that was 6.5 hrs. and we were ready for a hot meal. We started with a French onion soup that was reported by my husband to be hearty, lots of onions, and the best he has had to date. The vegetable beef soup hit the spot too. I ordered the special which was a sirloin steak which came with soup or salad and potato. My husband ordered the full rack of ribs. We both got the loaded baked potato. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was cooked perfect. My first bite was an OMG moment. The steak was unexpectedly so tender it caught me off guard. The loaded potato was cooked perfectly also. My husband said his ribs were very good. They were falling off the bone tender. I tasted one and I loved the sauce. We took home apple and pumpkin pie slices. I originally was going to order a slice of cheesecake but the waitress came back and said they did not have anymore. When I ordered the pie She said she would grow in extra whip cream-which she did. When we entered the restaurant there were about 6 people seated and by the time We put our order in there were about 15. Our service was excellent and fast. We thought that maybe because of the influx of people at the same time it would take a while but shortly after we finished our soup our entrée came out.
