I actually stopped on my way to and from Marquette. (If you have driven to the UP, you know stops are at a premium). On my way north, I just grabbed a drink. On my way home, I grabbed a drink and the chicken dinner that was on special. It was an amazing, perfectly fried half chicken, homemade mashed potatoes, and salad bar ( for an up fee). The price was still very reasonable and I had plenty of leftovers. I will definitely stop at The Cove on my next trip up north.

The gentleman who served us was simply a delight and you can hear his love for his community and this bar when he speaks which made our entire dining experience so much more enjoyable! Food -- My husband ordered the Mushroom and Swiss burger and it was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and super juicy -- he particularly appreciated that they toasted the bun. I ordered the whitefish basket and was very happy that the breading wasn't overly thick and overpowering, but the tarter sauce was worth writing this review and I could have brought some home with me! We ordered the whitefish dip for an appetizer, which was fabulous, but I'm not sure the chips were the best pairing. Decor -- There are antique tools on the wall that are really fun to look at and guess what they were used for (some we have at home and still use), There's a much more modern boxing machine and games for kids, too. Bathroom -- A little awkward, I'm not sure a wheelchair user without assistance would be able to swing the shape of the bathroom. I did have a chuckle that there's a "men's" room and a just not men's room (it was whited out). Overall, an absolute delight and great place to be able to stretch our legs and get some good food. We don't drink, so I can't tell you anything about the alcohol -- but I hear their Shirley Temples are famous!

Our camping trip weekend in the UP began on a Friday and that meant...FRIDAY FISH FRY, as is…read moretradition up here. The closest and best option nearby for fish fry was Mona & Co, according to my friend who was in our camping group and has lived in the UP for all her life. Mona & Co is such a fun set up as it is the restaurant that is located at the Indian Lake Golf Course, so your view from the restaurant is to the entire golf course and in the very distance you can see Indian Lake as well. One room of this restaurant is the dining room and the other is where the bar is with a couple of high top tables. The dining room looked pretty full, so we sat at the high tops near the bar and informed the hostess that we were going to be sitting there but wanting to both eat and drink, which they said was fine. Overall, the food was yummy - I was glad to have been able to experience a traditional UP fish fry. The ambiance of this place was very odd though. It's very casual, very unique characters coming here to dine, and because of that blend of golfers and people just coming to dine, it was just an interesting mix all around. The service was very slow given that they had a full house, but basically one person running around taking all the orders and running to and from the bar to grab drink orders as well. It took quite a while (over half an hour) after we sat down before we could even place our food order and then quite a bit longer as we waited for food. The bar we could walk up to ourselves and get a drink, so didn't need to wait on that. We were able to do plenty of people watching though and that's why I have a ton of observations of the people who came through these rooms. The bartenders were very friendly and very young. Some drink orders that came in they would need to ask older customers about how to make as they were also a little bit clueless - e.g. someone ordered a drink "straight up" and they weren't sure if that meant with or without ice and gave them their drink with a side of ice just in case! Overall, we weren't in any rush and I was starving by the time the food came, so happily ate it all and were on our way back to the campground for our camping weekend!
