Wow, I'm impressed. I've been meaning to stop by this cafe for the longest time. The aroma of the fresh roasted coffee beans linger each time I pass by this cafe. I had the pleasure of enjoying a cup of Joe today and loved every sip. Well actually, my first few sips were ultra sweet. I asked the barista if I could add a bit of coffee to counteract the sweetness. She offered to adjust it by either adding more cream and or an espresso shot. I opted for the latter. She was super nice and accommodating. Once she added the shot, it was PERFECT! I'll make sure to note that I'd prefer light sweetness when ordering next time. Now that I discovered my favorite cafe in the neighborhood, I'm super excited to try the rest of the drinks on the menu. read more

Stopped at Beanery during an afternoon break and picked up their iced mocha after seeing a few people around me ordering the same thing. The line moved steadily even with a decent crowd inside, and the person at the register was friendly without sounding scripted. The drink itself had a smooth coffee flavor and wasn't overloaded with chocolate like some places do. I also liked that they got the order right the first time since I made a couple small changes to it. I stayed for about half an hour to answer emails, and the atmosphere stayed pretty relaxed the whole time. Easy spot to swing by when you need a quick coffee without dealing with a long wait. read more

Stopped here between events and had their matcha latte made with soy. It was on the pricey side (got the large), but, wow, it was so good! It had a really nice matcha flavor that I could taste and it was exceptionally creamy and smooth. Maybe one of the best matcha lattes I've ever had! My friend had a regular coffee and she said her coffee was really good, too. She got a chocolate chip cookie and ate most of it. I didn't ask her how that was and I didn't have any of it, but it looked good although I'm more of a chocolate chip and nut cookie lover; maybe it could've used a few more chocolate chips, though. This coffee shop looked like the perfect place to grab coffee and something to eat and get your work done online. There are tables and chairs lined up along the wall so you could do a whole lot of people watching, too. If you want to sit outside, they have tables and chairs out there, too. All in all, great place to stop and really convenient to Golden Gate Park. read more

Found another cozy work cafe! I was waiting for my hair appointment and needed to find a place to focus on some projects, so stumbled upon this place! I've actually walked past many times and have never been until now, but there's always a ton of people sitting outside so it's definitely quite popular. I managed to snag the only open table left inside, and I'm quite happy and comfy! I ordered a hot latte, and the friendly and efficient barista whipped it up in under 1 minute and it's beautiful and tastes pretty good! The WiFi works really well and I had no issues connecting. Overall I would come back! My only issue is that this area is pretty difficult to find free parking, and there are a couple schools and tons of good restaurants around, so sometimes I am circling for a while. It also gets super foggy in this area, but that's just SF! Would recommend to anyone looking for a chill, relaxing atmosphere! read more

The Vietnamese coffee was perfect! Sweet and strong - the ideal pick me up before conquering a yoga class down the street. The medium was also huge and only $4.25. The person in the front was super friendly and I love how there seem to be flocks of locals always conversing out front. This seems to be a favorite spot by the neighborhood and I can see why. Plus, it helped me stay conscious during savasana, so I definitely will be stopping by more when I need a boost of energy. read more

Great coffee and a fun concept with coffee beans literally in the name so you know it's going to be good. I stopped for a quick caffeine fix on my way to lunch and tried a double latte with soy. It was a bit more milk forward than I prefer but still a good latte. They have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating, which always feels rare in sf. Overall, a solid spot for a quick cup of coffee in the area. read more

My husband and I have been frequenting The Beanery for about 4 years. It is an inner Sunset neighborhood coffee house, where the coffee drinks are the best in the city. There are other places a block away, that don't come close to the quality and flavor that The Beanery has. They also have other drinks including Chai teas, cappaciunos, lattes that are superb. They also have great pastries, bagels, etc. They have items on the menu, all delicious. The staff is warm and friendly and we have been buying dark French roast whole beans for 4.years. Everyone seems like family, talking to each other or just doing their thing. It is our favorite hangout in the city. We like hanging out in the outside to watch the scene and have fun!! It is the best!!!!We like to stay until closing time. Don't hesitate. By the way, there is also a Beanery at 7th and Irving in the same neighborhood. Enjoy!!! read more

Five stars for the customer service and the Vietnamese iced coffee. It's the best one I have had in a while and I cannot wait to go back. The caffeine burst was instantaneous and I found myself talking at the speed of those ladies on Gillmore Girls. It was rather impressive. I stopped by Beanery Coffee before meeting friends for dinner on a rainy evening. I had some time to kill and noticed the cafe because there were quite a few people drinking coffee both outside and inside. I tried their house coffee, which is self serve. The cashier was friendly and explained how it worked. A nice, relaxed place to warm up and enjoy a cup of coffee. read more

Best almond milk caramel latte I've ever had. The latte was smooth, creamy, and not too sweet. I literally jumped for joy after the first sip and my family noticed my happy coffee dance. Staff was pleasant and they provided stellar customer service. I could tell they were familiar with their "regulars" by the instant "hellos" and "smiles" the staff displayed. Quaint little cafe! I love their house coffee. If you get one of the house blends, you can literally custom make your own latte because they have different hot coffees on tap for you to choose from in addition to sweeteners and creamer. This is perfect for someone who usually has a custom coffee order and prays that they dont mess up hehe. They have decent indoor and outdoor seating. Ideal for sitting here for hours to read, work, etc. Or just hangout with a friend. read more

I stopped by here while walking around Inner Sunset for a cup of coffee. I got a Caramel Latte with a single shot, and it came out pretty quickly. There were a few small tables, and quite a few people were doing work on a holiday. The latte itself was really good--nicely balanced and not too sweet, not too bitter. The single shot (which I split with my boyfriend) was perfect for an afternoon coffee for someone who is sensitive to caffeine like me. I would come here again for a nice, no-frills cup of coffee and/or for a nice place to work! read more

I love coming to the Beanery for coffee or to study! This place is a local coffee shop on Irving and does everything just right. This location has more seating than the one on 7th, so I like to frequent this place! It definitely can be crowded so don't be surprised if you come in the afternoon to find no seats available. Unfortunately, there is a lack of plugs, but they do have wifi! I usually order the Caramel or Vanilla Lattes ($5.15 for medium). The coffee flavor is distinct and not too bitter or strong. Personally, I like a little bit milder coffee flavor. The sweetness is also perfect its not over done and doesn't leave an artificial taste in your mouth. Overall, it's such a lovely spot to grab coffee with a friend or study for a few hours on a sunny weekend. read more

Ah, fall is in full swing, and I'm absolutely loving it! Now I can indulge in hot chocolate every day without anyone looking at me strangely because yes, I love hot cocoa in any weather. Even in the summer! Anyway, the Beanery is a charming little spot to stop for a quick bite and a coffee, whether you're flying solo or catching up with a friend. It's the perfect place for a cozy conversation or to tackle a crossword puzzle. I wouldn't recommend coming with more than two people, though. I visited on a Sunday morning with a friend, and even though the tables are packed side by side, there's still a sense of privacy and space for an intimate chat. The hot chocolate was simple but sweet, and I paired it with a pumpkin muffin, which surprisingly tasted more like carrot cake. Quite the treat! read more

My go-to is always the iced vietnamese coffee - very strong but also very sweet. I love the flavor and it is a great afternoon pick me up whenever I need to get some work done! I honestly don't notice any difference between the flavor from here and the location on 7th avenue so I just go to whichever is more convenient (even though they are only 2 blocks away from each other). This location does have significantly more seating though (+ free wifi!), so I would recommend it for anyone who wants to get some work done or just hang out and read in a classic coffee shop vibe. They don't have outlets though so plan accordingly. Also I noticed that most people keep to themselves and it is a fairly quiet environment (wouldn't necessarily recommend it if you plan on talking loudly or have extended meetings), but it makes for a great place to work independently in a nice neighborhood coffee shop! read more

Beanery is my go-to after I've left the park and need a caffeine fix. It is an old-school SF type coffee shop; very little frills. However, the staff is always friendly and quick with their service. I drink tea (not coffee), so I usually get either some black tea or chai. They do have a few different non-dairy milks, including oat, but unfortunately upcharge for it (like most places.) Some things I would like to see: -Matcha latte's -Vegan pastries If they added one (or both!) of the above, I would spend a lot more time and money here. Still, I will keep coming back to avoid the nearby chain store and get my pick me up. read more

Some of the best sidewalk seating in the city -- ideal for a sunny morning. They frown upon enjoying pastries from Arizmendi while enjoying their coffee. Be warned. They have pretty good bran muffins on their own. It's justly popular and not unusual to share an outdoor table with strangers. read more

Great day @ Ocean Beach capped off with coffee at The Beanery. Tasty coffee and nice ambiance. However, my girlfriend left her phone behind and we didn't discover it until we were already in the East Bay. Called back to speak to someone and Akbar answered. He is the owner. He had not only found the phone but once we told him we were in the East Bay, he offered to bring it to us in Berkeley as he lives nearby. What an amazing gesture and he went above and beyond to make sure that we were not inconvenienced. I told him he had customers for life in us and we look forward to visiting his shop again soon!! Came on a Wednesday morning at around 9:30am. There was no line. For the espresso drinks, they're listed on the menu by the amount of shots you add, not by size. I ordered a single shot mocha. Coffee was good and hot. I thought the coffee flavor was nice, but there a a bit too much milk. Maybe I'll try a double shot the next time. The balance of chocolate and coffee was good though. Service was good and quick. Prices aren't bad for the area. Definitely a place I can see myself coming back to. read more

** The following review reflects my experience prior to the shelter-in-place order currently in effect. ** Before venturing into Golden Gate Park, you may want to stop at this coffee stop even though its name is missing a determiner. A busy local coffee shop. It's not your hyper fancy upscale cafe, but more for the neighborhood residents to stop by quickly to grab their caffeine fix. To that purpose, they do a good job! I got a flat white, and it was straightforward. Solid flavors, with maybe a bit too much acidity for me, but overall a good cup of coffee. Definitely strong; if memory serves me right, their standard is a double shot. I'm more of a fancy decor coffee shop person, so not necessarily the best cafe for me. However, if I'm in the area and need a caffeine fix, this will certainly be a reliable spot for that! read more

The Beanery Coffee Inc. was founded by an entrepreneurially minded immigrant couple who wanted to share their love of coffee and tea with the inner sunset district. The two operated the business out of the 602 Irving street location and quickly realized that the best way to make high quality coffee was to source and roast it themselves. They expanded the operation, mastering the craft of roasting the highest quality coffee in vintage San Franciscan coffee roasters, and have been at it since. The company’s large capacity roastery is located in Richmond, CA, though the first roaster they bought in 1994 — the little roaster that could — can still be found on display in the 9th Avenue storefront. Catch us roasting in the morning, rain or shine.

After some 30 seconds, we finally flagging her down to place our order. After turning around the drinks suspiciously quickly, my friend and I sat down to catch-up in the empty cafe. Before long, the barista pumps up the volume, increasing higher and higher every 5 minutes or so, as if to signal to us that our time was up. I asked her to turn down the volume, which she tuned down from an 11 to a 7, but minutes later it continued to creep up, like the snooze setting of an alarm clock coaxing you to wake up - except in this case, to get out. Ultimately, the volume got unbearable and we finally threw in the towel and got out of there to let the barista enjoy her music. Definitely never going back there - they clearly don't want the business. Food: 5/10 Service: 0/10 Price: $$ Atmosphere: 4/10

Initial sip was good, but after a few sips we noticed it's a bit thick. Definitely not the kind of drink to get when you're quenching of thirst. The strawberry puree was good but quality of matcha was the biggest con. Even before trying the drink, I could tell the matcha had a very DULL color (the one you get when either the matcha expires or when it's been too exposed to oxygen causing quality to lower exponentially). This was most disappointing because this gave the very bitter metallic aftertaste with every sip. For a shop that specializes in matcha, I hope they take quality into account more when making their drinks. The cafe doesn't have much comfortable seating, a few small tables outside and a bench indoor.

For my second visit, I just wanted a drink and got the Iced Salted Egg Yolk Latte. It was tasty, but the plastic straw made it hard to suck up the egg yolk bits, so that made the drink less enjoyable.

The staff are super friendly and are the heart of what makes this place so special. The coffee is always fantastic. I always get a vanilla latte, either iced or hot, and it's always a consistently good cup. I'm also a big fan of their raspberry matcha. They have a seasonal drinks menu that features a few creative and unique styles drinks. I always stop here or walk by on my walks because even if I don't get a drink, the vibe is so uplifting. There are always people and dogs pouring out. It's truly a third space. The other day I saw two women get to chatting because one was knitting and the other stopped to introduce herself and invite her to a craft group. Just adore!!!!

It was better this time and a pretty pastry but not super flavorful. We were able to get this pastry warmed up (they shared that they don't warm the ones with cream). (4) Chocolate Chip and Toffee Cookie ($8) - chewy, thicker cookie. Probably one of my favorites now. Total: $40.19 There was indoor seating within parachute bakery, but you can very well grab your pastries and go sit by the water. We parked further away as we always do and rode the street car (F) in, so we didn't have to deal with the bustling streets of the pier. Love the fact that they bring in seasonal ingredients. When I placed my order at the counter, I was served a fresh-from-the oven kouign amann - this rarely happens! I couldn't resist trying a piece as I left the bakery, and it was indeed exquisite. The black sesame kouign amann from B. Patisserie is my gold standard, and Juniper's version is a close contender. While the black sesame flavor is much lighter and the texture fluffier than the B. Patisserie version, I liked the abundance of the crispy edges (as well as the year-round availability). I will certainly be back to try more of Juniper's pastries.
