Had a good experience at Pixlcat. Tried the iced guava matcha and it was super yummy. I actually wanted to order another one ! There were several matcha flavors, hot/cold coffee and tea options available so I will have to go back and try others. There is seating inside and outside and wi-fi is available for those wanting to do a little work on their laptops.

Have the owners switched the name from Pixlcat Coffee to Butter Mochi Coffee? The pixilated cat is still the logo, but the name above the front door is Butter Mochi. Or maybe it's Pixlcat Butter Mochi Coffee now that I've taken a second look at the overhead menu. I'm confused. I'm also not the sharpest tool in the shed either, especially when it comes to trendy Gen Z coffee stops. I merely bask in my ignorance. This was actually the second time I patronized this quirky shop because I was once again drawn to their robust butter mochi selection. I can't help it. Butter mochi is a sweet Hawaiian-originated treat that has the potential to provide me momentary titillation on the infrequent occasions when I'm strolling on Clement. It's a good thing that the $5.75 Cafe au Lait manages to satisfy and delight (Photo 7). More importantly, I treated myself to the butter mochi. The classic is a flat five dollars, but princess that I must admit to be, I spent the extra quarter for their specialty versions. On my first visit, I had the $5.25 Matcha Butter Mochi which was bereft of icing (Photo 9), and my most recent visit introduced me to the $5.25 Ube Butter Mochi (Photo 8). Both were tasty mouthfuls though I prefer them sans icing. COFFEE - 4 stars...pretty smooth and warm on its own BUTTER MOCHI - 4.5 stars...small, satisfying treats, better without the decorative icing AMBIANCE - 4 stars...generally room enough for me SERVICE - 3.5 stars...engaging staff, just not so much to me TOTAL - 4 stars...I'll come back for the classic butter mochi because for a princess, I'm quite plain RELATED - Exploring the Richmond District? Okonomiyaki Spam Musubi - Spam, Nori, Rice, Furikake, Egg, Kewpie, Tonkatsu Sauce, Bonito Flakes

Even though we knew nothing about Pixlcat Coffee before we stopped in, we were intrigued almost immediately. While their cute logo and decor are what initially caught our eye, it was their menu and display case full of goodies that really piqued our curiosity. Between their butter mochi, pastries, and the mere sight of "black sesame" showing up on their drink menu, I knew I couldn't walk out without trying something! Despite how their space isn't all that big, Pixlcat does a pretty good job with what they have, managing to squeeze in a handful of two tops and some counter seats by the front windows (their parklet out front also helps). As for the aforementioned menu, it's got all of your typical sorts of coffees, espressos, and teas along with some really interesting offerings. Most notable are their house specialty iced doppo lattes, which come in a variety of flavors, but it was also more than a little surprising to see okonomiyaki offered, of all things. -- BLACK SESAME ICED DOPO PANNA LATTE...$7.50 Easily the best thing I've had here. Even though I wasn't fully able to blend everything together, the taste of the black sesame in this was so strong. Plus, the nuttiness complemented the creamy elements really well. SO GOOD. -- HONEYCOMB ICED DOPO PANNA LATTE...$7 To be fair, I only tried a couple of sips of this one, but it was my least favorite of the bunch. Oddly, even though it look like there was a lot of honey in this, this tasted far more earthy/grainy than sweet. Plus, we didn't see any bits of honeycomb in this either. -- STRAWBERRY ICED DOPO PANNA LATTE...$7.50 I had high hopes for this one, but it was underwhelming. The latte part of this was fine, but the taste of the strawberry didn't mix well with the rest of the drink, so it felt like two separate flavors going on. What's more, the consistency of this one didn't feel as creamy either. -- BREAKFAST SANDWICH - Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Bacon, American Cheese, Avocado Mash, Pan de Mie Bun...$14 Not perfect, but not too shabby either. While I didn't love the texture of the eggs, I did like how this had both sausage and bacon in it and how the cheese and avocado complemented them well. As for the pan di mie, it was really crumbly and made this messy to eat. -- OKONOMIYAKI MUSUBI - Spam, Nori, Rice, Furikake, Egg, Kewpie, Tonkatsu Sauce, Bonito Flakes...$12.50 Unfortunately for my wallet, I couldn't resist trying this. Not only did this come out piping hot, but it looked terrific and I loved how well the spam, furikake, egg, and bonito flakes worked together. That said, do I think this was $12.50 good? No. -- ICED ISLAND MATCHA LATTE...$8.50 I had high hopes for this one, but it was lackluster. Much like with the Strawberry Iced Dopo Latte, it was hard to get the guava flavors off the bottom and even then, it was more on the subtle side. -- ORIGINAL MOCHI BUTTER Ehh...this was just okay. I liked that this wasn't super buttery (though, I wouldn't have minded more), but the texture felt a bit dry and felt more cake-like than butter mochi. -- UBE & WHITE CHOCOLATE MOCHI BUTTER In terms of texture, this was easily the best - really moist with a very nice chew to it. Sadly, though, the ube flavor was scant, as the only thing I could taste was the drizzle of white chocolate. -- BLACK SESAME MOCHI BUTTER I was most excited for this one, but it was a miss for me. Rather than black sesame, this toasted more like the toasted white sesame seeds they sprinkled on top than anything else. Beyond the food and drinks, service here is solid - the workers have all been friendly and they get orders out pretty quickly. However, as so many of my fellow Yelpers have already mentioned, there's no denying that many of the prices here are higher here than elsewhere. While some of their staples, like their "quick cup" of coffee, espresso, and cold brew, are pretty standard (or close to it), I don't think the same can be said for some of their other stuff, especially their breakfast sandwich. Despite how unique some of Pixlcat's offerings may be, and as much as we tried to justify our couple of visits here, I'd be lying if I said we found it all to be worth the money. The closest would be their Black Sesame Iced Dopo Panna Latte and the Okonomiyaki Musubi, but even then, they're more of a splurge. Such a shame.

Love their black sesame coffee, nutty and creamy. We ordered a sample box of the butter mochi. It has a nice chewy yet firm texture and not overly sweet. Willl be back to try others options of drinks and pastry. Friendly staff, wait for order was not bad. The bathroom was out of order and so it was smell kinda funky in the back where we sat to wait for our order, luckily we ordered to take them togo so we didn't have to be there that long but that was unpleasant enough.

Happened upon Pixlcat Coffee! Wanted to try it, but unfortunately probably won't return. The logo and interior are so cute! The drinks were just not great. What I ordered: - Iced Dopo Panna Latte Honeycomb (2/5) honestly I'm not sure if I just didn't understand what a dopo panna latte was? But it was not sweet despite the honeycomb, and had such a weird spice flavor that I could not put my finger on. NO coffee flavor at all came through for me. It was just disappointing and I didn't even finish the drink. Don't think I'll be coming back to pixlcat coffee.

Iced Island Matcha
Lexine F.

Pixlcat Coffee is a cute cafe that serves Hawaiian inspired mochi desserts and Island vibe coffees. We came around closing time but the barista was attentive and patient with it being our first time there. This is my second ever matcha place I tried and I definitely love this one compared to the first place I went to. I love how the matcha was airy and light and easy to appreciate compared to other matcha. I think adding the guava to the match gave it the umph it needed.

Strawberry matcha

Strawberry matcha was sweet and light! Vanilla latte was strong. Convenient stop before walking through Clement St farmers market!

Almond Croissant & Black Sesame Mochi
Joey W.

Stopped here for a snack after a bike ride and got the black sesame mochi and almond croissant. Black sesame mochi - chewy and soft but lacked the nuttiness of the black sesame. I did appreciate that it wasn't super sweet. Almond croissant - the flavor was good but the croissant itself was a little dry and didn't seem fresh.

The Matcha latte with guava is excellent! It's a good twist on the usual strawberry Matcha latte. If you've never had Waapa before, it is sweet and tart, almost like a kiwi. There's lots of seating indoors, plus seating outdoors as well (but no shade).

Black Sesame Mochi
Jason X.

Cute spot with nice service. We were enticed by the butter mochi and went with black sesame - it was ok. I wouldn't have guessed that it was black sesame with my eyes closed. Not too sweet and down to try other flavors, but the staff might want to stop recommending that flavor.

Food Rating: 9 Price: 5 Ambiance/Service: 10 Overall Rating: 8 Strawberry Matcha Latte - oat milk ($8.50) Rating (9/10) Matcha flavor is not as strong but the strawberry syrup is very fresh and not too sweet! The drink was very smooth and really enjoyable. The price is just a bit high. *there is guest WiFi and charging ports near the desks as well*

This is in response to "Dennis" comment to my original review. Sorry that stupid hint of foam is disingenuous. I've had machiato's at independent coffee houses and they don't serve it in a joke shot glass. Why don't you list the oz size on your order signs? That would have been helpful. A photo would have been helpful too. What's this shit about "asking the staff?" Your business is precious and not realistic. You are insufferable.

It is tucked away and a bit inconspicuous, so be sure to keep an eye out if you decide to come over here. Since it is near the park, parking is difficult, and taking Muni would be best. The store itself is small, with two tightly packed tables for seating, and the order counter is surrounded by delicious-looking pastries, giving it a homey vibe. I went in the afternoon on a weekend, and there was no line at the time. I really needed a caffeine boost, saw this place on Yelp, and decided to try it out. I try my best to order coffees/drinks that are unique to the place so I can try their signatures and form my best judgment. I decided to order the Thai Caffe Banana Latte and saw that it was labeled as blended with bananas. When I went up to the counter, I asked about the consistency of the latte to ensure it was not a creamy blended drink (like a smoothie) but still liquid, like a typical latte. I am unsure if my question was confusing, but it seemed to bother the person serving me that I was asking questions, and they seemed to be getting impatient with me. When they rang me up, I paid, but I forgot to ask for almond milk since I felt rushed while ordering (even though no one else was in the store at the time). I asked if I could still add it in and pay the upcharge or separate fee. They ended up telling me to just tip them the extra $1 in cash or add it to the Square payment as a tip (I gave $2 in cash because I felt bad for inconveniencing them). When I got the drink, the coffee was strong, bold, and not as sweet as I thought it was going to be (which was fine!). Since the original coffee without banana says it has condensed milk, I thought it was going to have more of that sweet note with the banana, but I could be incorrect in assuming it would be sweeter. That said, the banana itself was mashed into the drink, and unfortunately, I did not taste it very much, though I did sip up some banana pieces. Based on the drinks and the service, perhaps this place just is not for me, but I would not tell you to avoid it either. I would recommend trying it yourself to formulate your own thoughts, since maybe my experience was a one-off and the drink I got was not the one that best represents this cafe!

On the May Fourth be with you today Star Wars movie has Cinderella undertones. Growing up the Piroshki was all around the corner liquor stores in San Francisco especially in the Mission District ( a whole different Cinderella story). The piroshki would be a fast microwaved treat to have during lunch and after school. Over the years I have been very selective when picking up a piroshki from a corner store because they can be very doughy. There is one bakery in San Francisco which has been making a variety of piroshkis for over 70 years. This Russian bakery has both the savory and the sweet . It's located on Balboa street and it's called Cinderella. On a Spring stroll I landed at Cinderella. Inside you can see and smell the delicious bake goods which can be sweet and some salty like some in SF. On the sweet side I enjoy their honey cake but no donuts . On the savory side it's the piroshkis. My favorite is the beef and cheddar piroshki. It wasn't too cheesy like some in SF but the beef was tender and it almost tastes like a smashed burger ( not to be confused with smash burger) all in a soft bun. The are other interesting items on the menu like Pelmeni which are Russian dumplings and Siberian Pie. You can wash it all down with a Matcha Latte ( for Don Juan de la Matcha) or the Kompot drink. There is a planned expansion to the Mission District in with a location at 2937 24th street. This will be a good Cinderella story for all of San Francisco. Go to a place which has a good piroshki "supply" these piroshki buns get baked and some they do "fry" they have other baked goods and food you can "try" like their Grilled Salmon salad and the Cherry Vareniki the Russian Dumpling which has sour cream & sour cherries or the "Siberian Pie" So go on a stroll to "Cinderella" which is the place when it comes to piroshki and baked goods because they got "hella" tasty variations like the Blinchiki with Caviar with more than a bump and you also have one made with it "Nutella" and this bakery sings to me like a Broadway " A capella"
