This was the last store i went to when i was in boston. Me and my boyfriend wanted to bring some chocolates back home to austin and heard beacon hill was the best. This store is actually really small which i didn't expect but it was nice and warm. They have a small display of truffles and cute boxes are lined up on shelves around the walls. You can purchase the box for extra or stick to a normal chocolate box. My boyfriend bought a chocolate bar and i bought a box of truffles. The truffles were delicious. I recommend the blueberry gem ones as well as the caramel ones. Highly recommend this chocolate store to boston visitors. Pricing was decent for what you get. read more

I was dreaming about buying chocolate here. I think this place is very good for a gift. However chocolate is a little difficult thing to give as a gift because it is actually very expensive 1=$2, so you need to give them right person. I mean to create a decent chocolate box gift, you need to spend money. This place really care about presentation(I uploaded picture) but I don't think taste is not leading me to the world of Belgium great chocolate. I like Burdick chocolate better than here. I like their neighbor. It is always fun to walk Beacon hill. read more

Chocolates are great if you can get waited on. Went in today, waited for 2 gentlemen in front of us, girl behind counter then started helping person behind us. He went looking at other displays, we told her we'd like four pieces, girl says chocolates on the top shelf are extra, I replied no problem. She then proceeded to start putting other candies into the display, so I said, "thanks for you help" and walked out. It will be a while before I go back in there. read more

Based upon some of the earlier reviews (including some recent ones), it seems to depend who is working in the shoppe as to whether or not you're going to feel that you had a great experience. I guess I got lucky during my visit. Upon a recent stay in Boston, having stayed in the Beacon Hill area, I ambled upon this attractive shoppe literally just a few minutes prior to 7:00 p.m. It was dark outside, and I didn't have a watch/phone with me, but I knew it had to be close to seven. The lights were still on. There was a gentleman and a lady working within- maybe in their 50's. When I opened the door, I could tell they were getting ready to close and I asked if it was 7pm yet, and the gentleman said something like 'Its very close, but come on in anyway.... you'll be our last customer of the day!'. I felt very welcomed and while I was drooling over my choices the woman left for the night and wished me a "Happy Halloween". The man didn't pressure me at all to hurry up and in fact he was very helpful in answering my questions and helping me to make some decisions, and so I ended up purchasing almost $75.00 in goods (mostly for gifts), which is way over my budget but I couldn't help myself with all of the mouth-watering delicacies before me, and the warm manner in which I was treated! In accord with other's opinions here, the chocolates were absolutely OUTSTANDING in taste/texture and the hand-crafted, artistic designs, so I didn't mind paying as much as I did for what I had chosen. Well worth the premium prices. I also found the BEST toffee that I've ever had in my life- Cape Cod Gourmet Toffee from a small batch candy maker in N. Falmouth. Wow. read more

Stumbled upon this quaint chocolate shop while taking our out-of-town friends around Boston! I am a huge chocolate fan, especially of straight dark chocolate bars and bonbons, both of which this place knows how to stock and make. They have delicious local bars that would be difficult to find in other places, like Chequessett Chocolate, which is an absolutely decadent Cape Cod-made dark chocolate that they are one of the only stockers of. And their bonbons are an absolute DELIGHT. Huge selection, all of which are creative, with great pairings of flavors, and great balance. Absolutely perfect for gifts and treat yourself days! Staff was very friendly and helpful, explaining all the bonbons thoroughly and letting us take our time and browse when we couldn't decide. Can't wait to come back to treat myself! read more

I agree with Shannon W regarding the price of artisan chocolates. Not only are you paying for workmanship and high quality ingredients, but you're also chipping in on the cost of real estate in the area (almost prohibitively expensive). Also, as far as I know, Beacon Hill Chocolates has a local monopoly on certain services; economically speaking, the business pretty much has carte blanche to charge whatever they want for certain items. Take, for example, their hand-painted chocolate boxes. You can select from the stock they have (gorgeous scenes of the Charles, Boston in general, etc), or bring in a photo for them to transcribe to a box. This takes about a month, but the results are GLORIOUS. They ship the photos to an artist in California, who does her best to accurately represent the photograph, and take some liberties to further beautify the image (added diamond necklaces and earrings to the women in the photograph, etc). I brought in a photograph in early December; I required the box two weeks later, cutting the processing time in half. The owner said if she express-mailed the photograph and then the box, she might be able to do it. Well, the box came back one day late, and I was already on a plane at that point. So the kindly owner asked me to describe the tastes of the recipient and stocked the box with chocolates for me and shipped the box to it's final destination. That, fellow yelpers, is customer service at it's finest. This gift was a huge hit, but it was $100 for a box of chocolates. If you're not in the market for such extravagance, Beacon Hill Chocolates still might suit you. They have quite the unique selection (the best I've seen in Boston, but I am by no means a truffle connoisseur), and it's quite enjoyable to stop in mid-afternoon for a one-of-a-kind insulin spike every now and then. read more

Coming through the door is entering an European chocolate store! Artisan chocolates from all over! You can mix and match the truffles. Hand painted boxes with different themes from holidays to boston landmarks are available. Huge selection and the owner is incredible helpfull. It's a true chocolate experience. It happens to all of us... twice a year, we get that Facebook message from an old friend who decides to go on a tourist spree of Boston and wants you, their dear old friend from high school, to be their personal tour guide. Next time that happens to you, make sure Beacon Hill Chocolates is on your list of places to bring them. Why, Jason, you might ask? Why Beacon Hill Chocolates of all places? It's not that its the best chocolate I've ever had, but it way up there in terms of creativity and what it has to offer. Candied Bacon Caramel truffles? A Cappuccino Cup truffle in the shape of a coffee cup with a dollop of whipped cream? Caramel Sushi truffles that look like fish-free sushi? Lavender Truffles? Olive Oil & Sea Salt Truffles? Port Wine Fig Truffles? Zinfandel-Balsamic Truffles? Yeah, you're going to come off as an amazing cosmopolitan city-dweller with amazing taste. And convincing your old high school friends of that is worth the price of any single piece of chocolate. read more

It's Beacon Hill, bitch. Delicious and obnoxiously expensive chocolates in a deliciously decorated store with obnoxious service. Their salted chocolate-covered caramels are amazing, brought in from Salt Lake City. Really high-quality, buttery caramel. The interior is cute and air-conditioned. Lots of wealthy ladies with names like Muffy will huddle in little clusters around the place, gossiping about how Mllicent and Sheldon are planning "scrumptious" engagement parties and have "mahvelous" jobs that "aren't your run-of-the-mill Goldman or Morgan." No, they will not be bothered to move away from the door and will continue to block your attempt at entry/exit to/from the tiny little shop. Now I get the meaning of socialite. Heavy on the "social." "Lite" on common sense. Hoo-ah. Two girls were behind the counter, both with brown hair and hipster glasses. I didn't get any names so I can't distinguish between them here besides the fact that one was an absolute doll and one was an absolute douche. The doll was cheerful and all happy to answer my questions. The douche essentially treated me like I had no business being there, eye-rolling included. Reality-check sister: this ain't the UN. You work at a chocolate shop. My asking if the salt you use is fleur-de-sel isn't going to shatter your precious peace treaty with Uzbekistan. Despite the shitty service from the one girl, I still ordered a dozen chocolate-covered salted caramels to be sent home for my family to try. Beacon Hill Chocolates will ship across the country based on weight. In this case, shipping cost about 10 bucks, but the chocolates were shipped out on Monday and received by Wednesday. It's expensive, but I feel like shipping is worth it in this case. You're already plunking down big time for these chocolates. It'd be a total waste if they ended up melting in your attempt to transport them on your own. This is the first time I'm able to so easily break down my rating for a review: 5-stars for quality chocolates. Minus 1/2 star for being so stupidly expensive. Minus 1+1/2 stars for that one arrogant girl that works there. This is one of those cases where even chocolate can't sweeten the bitter taste left behind by bad service. Hoo-ah. read more

Two words: French Macarons. I know this is more of a chocolate shop but I've been in search of the best macarons in Boston (LA Burdick in Hsq still by far the best). Beacon Hill Chocolates comes in second. That says a lot considering I've tried macarons in French restaurants around the city. I think they don't make them too often or it might be a consignment from another place. Either way they are delicious. I've tried the pistachio and pumpkin and both were yummy. It cost $2 a piece but they are bigger than the ones they sell at Burdick's for 75 cents. I've also tried their mini cupcakes in Red Velvet and Pumpkin Spice. Both are pretty good though very pricey ($2/piece for a tini tiny one). I have yet to try their chocolates. I'm sure they are great but I can only speak for their French macarons (not to be confused with the regular macarons that are made with coconut, these are made with Almonds) and also the mini cupcakes. read more

I came here during Christmas time (so yes, this review is a little old). My grandmother is diabetic but keeps sneaking chocolate because she won't admit she's addicted to the stuff. It's causing health problems for her, so instead of calling Intervention, I went on a quest to find her diabetic-safe chocolate candy that also tastes good. Beacon Hill Chocolate sells sugar free chocolate candy! They were so nice to me and showed me all of the options and even wrapped up the box with a little bow. Yes, it was pricey, but for a Christmas gift it was definitely worth it. My grandmother was happy and managed to eat the entire box while none of us were looking. I never even got to try one. According to her though, it was delicious. read more

Although the prices are very expensive, remember that this is a classic example of you get what you pay!!!!! The selection is very adequate, but the quality is what wins over everything else. read more

If I had a daisy it would be: I like Burdick's, I like Beacon Hill, I like Burdick's, I like Beacon Hill. I can't think of any other way to decide. which is better. Beacon Hill chocolates are creamier as I was taught that French chocolates were (by Delphan of The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts) . On the other hand, Burdick's chocolate are more consistant in intensity of flavour. Neither better nor worse, just more consitant. If I buy at Beacon Hill, I try to buy a consistant set of flavors. For instance, the balsamic vinagrette is VERY good, with a rich flavor, the salted carmel is also very good with a very delicate flavor, so the balsamic vinagrette over shadows the salted carmel. I find this inconsistancy uncomfortable. I can't afford either place, so this is mostly about day dreams. read more

This place is wonderful. When I'm feeling sad, or just want some chocolate, I walk down cute little Charles Street and grab myself a truffle. One night I even managed to stop by a wine tasting a few doors down and get a truffle! I Wish they had a little more selection on chocolate bars to choose from but the new store location looks great and I could die in their truffle selection. Also, they have gelato and cupcakes from a local bakery (not sure where) now! Please go try the olive oil salted chocolate truffle and get a salted caramel for the road too, because you won't make it out of the door without eating both! read more

Only Ok (2.5). Offers a wide selection of highly-priced treats. Standing Room Only--no seats! Macarons (made elsewhere and brought in) are bigger than the usual (and priced more than extra for that) but buttercream in salted caramel was not well mixed (tasted some pure butter). Maybe the pistachio is better but I'll stick with Cannelle (NYC) and Burdick's (MA) for that...Yes, Burdick's macarons are better but Cannelle wins the gold!!! Might try the chocolates and/or gelato... read more

I got two guilty pleasure chocolates here this afternoon, and they were frickin' DELICIOUS. I got this cute lemon-chocolate clownfish and a chocolate covered oreo. The store was gorgeous, and, more importantly in this heat: well-air conditioned! I'd go back. I was less than impressed with the service, though. I walked in while the only employee was beautifying some gift boxes for a couple of people. This took 5 minutes - no biggie. I just wished I would have gotten so much as a "hello, I'll be with you in just a few minutes" rather than silence from all three people in the room with me. read more

After trying several chocolate places in Boston, this is by far our favorite. 1. Helpful staff. 2. Great selection. 3. Good Prices. 4. Cupcakes are tiny. 5. Cute packaging. 6. Going to face some serious competition from the cupcake place moving in just down the street. read more

This store represents so much more than just chocolate! The customer service I experienced with my most recent online order was above and beyond any expectations! I was placing an order to be delivered to my sister for her birthday however my sister was going to be traveling on her birthday so I was having the chocolates routed to the hotel she would be staying at. My first experience with the Amazing Tiffany was when she reached out to me because she saw the note on my delivery instructions and wanted to make sure the package arrived on the same day my sister was and I appreciated that so much. The situations to follow were not anticipated but handled with the most diplomacy tact and patience that I have experienced from a retail store probably ever in my life. My sisters travel ended up being canceled and unfortunately the chocolates had already shipped. Tiffany personally called the hotel or the shipping company (not sure which ) but she had the package rerouted to my sisters house. Another unfortunate event is that I happened to get one of the numbers wrong in my sisters address and Tiffany yet again stepped in and rerouted the package to my sisters correct address. To say I appreciated the effort would be an understatement especially because she didn't even charge me one more penny for shipping. So if you want great chocolate and old time customer service do yourself a favor and make this your one stop shop for all your chocolate cravings and trust me when I tell you their delivery Service is on point!!! read more

such a cute little shop! I first went here while on a food tour and got hooked. The staff has been great in suggesting different chocolates for the adorable gift boxes that they have. This place is really expensive BUT their handmade truffles are also REALLY good and very creative. They are also incredibly beautiful and make really lovely gifts. I would give 5 stars but have to take off 1 star for the price. At first I really was suspicious about the price, but I am a convert even though I still wince a little bit when I pay. I lived in Beacon Hill for 2 years and started going there about once a month. I think their chocolates are WAY better than Burdick's in harvard square. I highly recommend the following truffles: - Dragonfly - dark chocolate, Kaffir lime leaves, candied ginger, coconut milk - Grand Marnier dessert cup - dark chocolate filled with orange liqueur ganache - Champagne truffle - dark chocolate champagne truffle Everything there is good though--so even if you hate dark chocolate, there are lots of good milk chocolate and white chocolate options. read more

My first chocolate I had from the box - was like wow. ok these people know their dark chocolate. Then I had another and it was just ok. then I had a long rectangle chocolate - way too big and it was way too sweet. So, I would say better than your cheapo chocolate, but not as good as LA Burdick. read more

I have a weakness for chocolate. Especially if it's fine chocolate. Beacon Hill Chocolates has some of the best chocolates I've had in Boston. Their truffles are amazing. They have some unique flavors such as olive oil and lavender as well as the normal mochas, espressos, and fruit fillings. They also have about half a dozen vegan chocolates, which are equally good! Their array of other sweets is also very extensive and they usually have some very fun treats around each holiday. They also have a good selection of gift boxes if you're looking for a present. The sales staff has always been very patient when I've gone in to look around and they definitely know their chocolate. I've never once asked a question and had them not know what was in the chocolate. They're also great at giving suggestions if you're not sure what to buy. It is, however, incredibly expensive. I usually only stop in for yearly gifts around Christmas or for a good friend or family member's birthday. Even then, I buy a box of 4 truffles, but those 4 truffles are worth it. I'll take Beacon Hill Chocolates over mass produced Hershey's chocolate any day. read more

I am a chocoholic so I have tried just about every chocolate shop in the city. I have to admit I was quite a bit disappointed in my experience at Beacon Hill Chocolates. The chocolates that I purchased were stale and tasted like they were several months old. On top of that, they were completely overpriced compared to other chocolate shops. This chocolatier does not make any of there chocolates in house and rather purchases them from all over. I assume that the turnover isn't high enough for the shop to keep their quality fresh given that several of the items are coming from thousands of miles away already. read more

Yum! If I'm going to eat something that's 'unhealthy' it better taste good (actually, it better taste great). So I don't eat chocolate bars or over-the-counter chocolates that I find rather average, but I do like high quality chocolate and Beacon Hill Chocolates delivers. I bought five of these and spaced them out over two weeks, not because they weren't great, but the opposite. I was so satisfied after one that I was good. I also wanted to let the flavor of that particular chocolate linger (and not eat another type straight away and not appreciate either as much). I'd say this ends up being better value for money than cheaper options. I also tried their sorbet and it was delicious - can't wait to go back and get some more. read more

So I saw the one bite cupcakes priced at two dollars, and thought, "Hey, I'll buy a truffle, it'll be cheaper." WRONG. This place is mighty expensive, but quite unique. The taste is phenomenal and the people sweet (no pun intended). I don't think I'd get people gifts from here unless I love them that much. So if you get a box from me...now you know. read more

What is up with the super rich chocolates in Boston? After my Burdick's incident I felt defeated. After Beacon Hill Chocolates, i gave up. They are delicious. I am not denying that. I just can't stand how rich they are. I love chocolate. Especially dark, but all the cream and truffle centers are too much to take. Thankfully BHC offers a few choices that are more simple or nutty to cut the richness. I really liked the Jardin Almond, Dark Feuillentine, Jardin Pistache, and the White Chocolate Raspberry Does everything there have hazelnut or is it just me? The best thing about this place is the charming shop it self. It reminds me of Paris. I heart it. read more

I had a Groupon that was about to expire so my husband and I ventured over here last weekend to put it to use. While everything was so delicious the prices where steep so without some sort of voucher I do not see a return in my near future. I got two chocolate covered brownie pops that where amazing. These I thought where a decent deal at $2.50 each. I then got a box of six truffles. We are pacing ourselves and have only had three so far. The mint was delcious. The olive oil and salt which was recommended was good but a little odd for my taste and the white chocolate coffee bean was very tasty. At almost $3 per truffle it is pricey but then again this is beacon hill so I can't say I was shocked. They have these cute animal truffles that are so adorable! If you are looking for a special chocolate for a child these would be perfect. read more

Yum yum yum I was walking through the town when I came across Beacon Hill chocolate and decided to treat our family to something special for dessert - hey, who says nice chocolate should only be gifted! The service was a bit slow, the lady in front of me put in a large order and there was only one staff, but she was nice so that made up for the wait. And there is lots to see and be tempted by walking through the store as you wait for your turn. Including reading about all the wonderful truffles they have! I got some specialty chocolate for a friend, and a 4piece box for us. My daughter LOVED the halloween themed owl and we truly enjoyed the lavender, champagne and baileys truffles. I didn't care for the hand decorated boxes, but because they aren't my style. The regular box was all I wanted. Will definitively return! For a special treat or gift. I am in LOVE with this place! They're part of the Boston Chocolate Tour stop in Beacon Hill, and that is just how I discovered them. And man oh man, am I ever so glad I did! Their truffles are AMAZING. I picked out the lavender one for later, and it was the highlight of my day. They were generous with the samples they gave our group, but I think I was most thrilled to find St. Patrick's Day truffles to pick up, as well as hot chocolate and the very idea that I can order truffles anytime online and send them to friends and family! Plus, they offer beautiful keepsake boxes to send the chocolates in. Perfecto! What beautiful chocolates and delicious gelato! Yum yum yum. Whether gift or self-indulgent treat, the Beacon Hill Chocolates shop will deliver. And brownie pops dipped in chocolate? Delicious. But the pressure will be on as you narrow your selection down to one small box. They have chocolates shaped as squares, teardrops, pears, animals, ice cream cones and more. With so many choices you'll feel like a kid in a candy shop. Except you're old. I love this little store. They have the best chocolates ever and an amazing variety. Each chocolate is a different flavor and is decorated accordingly. Like the honey flavored piece is shaped and decorated to look like a bee. The coffee flavored ones look like tiny super cute cups of coffee. You can get single piece or a box of 4, 8, 12 or 32 I believe. They wrap the box like a gift so it feels so special when you open it to stuff you face with the chocolate. The box will also have a brochure of their flavors. However, it does not list all their flavors. Apart from their chocolates, they also have about 4-5 flavors of ice cream (one of them usually a sorbet) that is so creamy and delicious !! If you visit them during the summer make sure to taste the mango ice cream. It's the best you'll ever have. They also have chocolate bars - I personally LOVED the caramel one. read more
