    iced hot chocolate

The iced hot chocolate was literally the perfect chocolate beverage I have ever tasted... I've searched for YEARS for something like this and it took my BREATH AWAY. I DREAM OF COMING BACK EVERY DAY

Amazing and beautiful coffee and pastries bakery. They also sell a variety of chocolates and truffles. We ordered the $7 iced chocolate and $7 frozen hot chocolate. Not too sweet and really rich in flavor. Great service.

Very nice coffee shop with great pastries and chocolates. The staff are very nice in here! One the best chocolate chip cookies in the city too. The chocolates are a little pricey so I don't go that often but when I do I always get the coconut truffle!!!

We stopped by cacao on a whim after seeing they had hot chocolate. I don't like hot drinks, so I was really excited to see that they had an iced hot chocolate on the menu. It was incredible. It was rich, decedent, and super filling. It was hard to finish because it was so rich. Truly incredible!! Small space, not so many seats but the service was quick!

Super cozy spot in the South End of Boston! We got the coffee and chocolate olive oil cake and they hit the spot on a cold snowy day. Vibe is casual and there are a decent number of seats. They also had chocolates from all around the world on display which was great. Their chocolate boxes also seemed like a good option for gift giving.

Wonderful addition to the South End which forces (obviously?) on chocolate of all kinds.... Bars, pastries, cookies and hot, cold and frozen chocolate drinks. Also of course tea and coffee. Cozy space with a laid back vibe and friendly staff. Black and white tile floor and homey touches abound I had a frozen chocolate white was not to sweet and a really good chocolate and raspberry cookie warmed up Pleasant music playing and just lively enough with it being loud.

This is a lovely cafe with a cozy interior and perfect for a slow morning start! I tried the matcha latte and an almond croissant. I found the latte to be rich and not too sweet. The croissant was flaky and had a good amount of filling, with a strong almond flavor. The workers were also super friendly and made the cafe feel super welcoming!

the coffee was absolutely divine. it had the perfect amount of espresso to milk ratio and did not taste overly milky. the cafe was so beautiful inside, it's the perfect spot to get some work done. service was amazing as they bring your drinks and food right to you. although slightly more pricey, would 100% be going back for more

What a wonderful shop! First glance overwhelming with opportunity which is a great place to be. Unhurried you are able to admire the display of baked goodies and magic truffles while reading ingredients, asking questions, and considering options. The team is so friendly and atmosphere business casual kind of chill. Definitely could be a fun remote work spot or nice for a date, though the seating is more open space and economical vs cozy. I still love it! I tested 4 dairy free, gluten free truffles including passion fruit, espresso, ganache, and pure chocolate. The flavors were distinct, textures cohesive and complimentary and each felt like they were topped with love. For my drink I opted for the bittersweet dark and no milk as I love my drinking chocolate straight. It was such a great pick and I can't wait to return. This is something I've been searching for, thank you!

Excellent, relatively new addition to the neighborhood. Family owned, friendly service, and an outdoor deck in front. Plus, a great variety of chocolates.

This is a lovely chocolate store. We tried the frozen chocolate and cookie and they were so good! The chocolate is rich without being overly sweet. Everything on display looked so appealing. There is indoor and outdoor seating but not enough table space for you to settle down and study/do work there. There is a steady flow of customers. Cute and clean space inside

Another super cute coffee find in Boston! I'm so glad I stopped by at their South End location. The space is gorgeous and great for coffee photos. They also have some indoor and outdoor seating if you don't want to get your stuff to go. I tried their dulce de leche latte and chocolate chip cookie and both were absolutely delicious. Definitely will be back for their hot chocolate and other treats in the winter!

Their chocolates are so fresh and rich and amazingly delicious! I got a small box for $20 just to try, and yes although it's pricey, they were a real treat! The ambiance inside is great as well and they have lots of outdoor seating spaces.

Oatmeal raisin is never the choice when chocolate chip is around, but Levain's oatmeal raisin is incredible. There are definitely less raisins now than there used to be, but I'm fine with it because I'm really only in it for the soft, cookie dough goodness anyway. Service is quick and speedy since there's always an outrageous line, but well worth it to gain 4lbs in 25 seconds.

The more it sat, the more I was able to taste it. And the mocha they use doesn't seem to be very chocolatey which I'm not a fan of. It's more on the bland side. Maybe it would be better iced but since it's cold outside I wanted something hot. The girl who took my order and made my latte was very nice and very kind. She had a really good vibe coming off her which I love. Five stars for her! So the mocha gets 3 stars, the girl who helped me gets five stars. I may get a cookie to go but haven't decided if I wanna spend $5.75 plus tax on a cookie. The mocha was $5.25 plus tax alone. And the cookies really aren't as big as people say they are. They do look good but I'm not sure if I wanna spend that much on a single cookie. Maybe I'll come back another day. Edit to say I did go back for a cookie. I got the dark chocolate peanut butter chip. The same girl helped me and this wonderful sweet girl gave me an extra cookie. Forget the five stars, she gets infinite stars. I hardly ever have people be that nice to me and she deserves all the recognition and thanks. Been in Boston for literally two hours and I'm already having the best day!!

Honest thoughts: The cakes were indeed beautifully crafted, but $13 was overpriced. The cake quality didn't meet the steep price. The cafe was self-service and some furnitures were quite worn out. From their ig, I saw the price tag was ~$9 last year. It was aggressive to raise $4 within a year.....It would be more reasonable to charge at or under $10. *Autumn Leaf $13 * This seasonal special was my favorite. Spiced sponge and pecan crunch were wrapped inside the subtly sweet maple mousse, with a hint of banana flavor coming through midway. The spiced cake tasted like fall. *Geometric Apple $13 The geometric apple is their bestseller but I found the flavors didn't match well with one another. The outer layer was cheesecake mousse, while the center was filled with apple compote, caramel, and chocolate cake. The cake was quite sweet, and the sourness from apple put me off. The chocolate crunch inside was too hard to eat.

Beacon Hill Books and Cafe is a three story independent bookstore set inside a townhouse on Beacon…read moreHill, and the physical space does as much work as the inventory in making it worth a visit. We walked into a building with the kind of architectural character that chain bookstores cannot manufacture, with small rooms opening into each other across multiple floors, wallpapered walls, and reading nooks distributed throughout that invite you to slow down rather than move through quickly. The book selection is well curated with staff recommendation cards on the shelves that actually reflect genuine enthusiasm rather than perfunctory notes. We saw limited edition hardcovers and local and regional titles appearing alongside the broader fiction and nonfiction selection. Browsing felt productive rather than overwhelming because the curation kept things focused. The kids section upstairs is one of the more delightful in Boston, with a train running along a track near the ceiling that tends to make a strong impression on younger visitors. There is also an art print vending machine on the second floor that draws its own audience of visitors looking for something small and specific to take home. The cafe occupies the lower level and operates as a separate experience from the bookshop above. We ordered the oat milk cappuccino with Vermont maple syrup, which was worth it. The morning glory scone and the popovers are two other items to consider. The cafe is tiny, around eight tables inside with a small patio, and reservations are recommended for breakfast and afternoon tea service. Pricing at the cafe is on the higher end, and certain fixed price service formats on specific dates push it considerably further, so checking current pricing before booking is worth doing. For a bookshop that doubles as a destination in its own right, Beacon Hill Books and Cafe delivers a cozy, curated experience that rewards lingering. It is the kind of place we would return to just to sit and read with a good coffee.

Super cute bookstore with one of those Inciardi Print vending machines on the top level…read more This is no barnes and Nobles, it is a skinny and maybe 4 store old brownstone with skinny stairs. But beautiful and curated inside. My quibble with the Inciardi print machine - is that I would rather the prints be Boston Specific - these are just more generic. The One in San Francisco's north Beach has all SF ones (not super touristy, but hidden local gems, like Golden Boy Pizza, and a row house)
