I believe this is the only ROYCE in boston, just wish they carried more flavors like the stores in Japan. Be a nice snack for work. + Milk chocolate and almond bar (very shareable). Creamy milk chocolate with plenty of almonds, soft chocolate (but that coulda been the temps) + Nama milk chocolate matcha flavor, super soft and creamy, plenty of matcha earthy goodness. I had the pleasure of receiving a mixed box of their chocolates for Christmas and I had never heard of them prior to this but I will tell you I'll never forget them after that. They are light and delicate, smooth and creamy with each variety possessing a unique flavor. Normally I'm all about dark chocolate with a orange cream filling but with each chocolate morsel I tried I found a new favorite. The person (Mai) who gave them to me said they were her favorite chocolates and I completely understand. These delicious chocolates are to be savored and shared amongst friends. I've been given the honor to sample THE Royce, a chocolate company originating from Hokkaido Japan! The associate was really kind and helped explain all of the chocolates on display in the store as well as all the chocolates I sampled. She even gave me a background on the history of Royce. Their Nama chocolate is their most popular and I was able to sample both their Ghana bitter and matcha white chocolate Nama. Their Nama is so uniquely soft due to their blend of liqueur and fresh hokkaido cream that increases the water content of the cocolate. I have to agree that their Nama chocolate is the softest and most enjoyable chocolate I've ever experienced. I definitely want to try more flavors and loved their tasting box which was perfect for that! My other favorites included their aromatic bitter coffee chocolate and their chocolate covered strawberry cream wafer! Definitely coming back next Valentine's day for me and my boo‼ read more

ROYCE makes unbeatable chocolate. Forget treating yourself with a massage you'll experience once or a manicure that will last a week. What you deserve is a box of truffles that you keep in the fridge and, if you have self control, you can nibble for weeks. I don't think it even takes that much self control though, these truffles are the perfect size to feel like total indulgence. The chocolate is so well made that you're satisfied and happy. It is a pricey purchase but worth it. The packaging and quality just make the whole experience so enjoyable, it's really hard to explain without trying it yourself. And fortunately you can visit the store and the lovely staff will let you sample and guide you toward the ideal chocolate or cookie or wafer or chocolate covered potato chip to make you happy. The store is hard to figure out without help. I haven't had a bad thing, but I've had some very good things, namely the matcha and champagne Pierre mignon flavored Nama chocolates (pictured). Look at their little boxes and perfect little rectangles! So pretty. So delicious. Don't mess around when you need a treat, go to Royce and spoil yourself. Wow! I didn't even know this place was here until my friend told us they had the best chocolates :) I originally came in for a sampling and the associate who helped us was wonderful! She gave us some history about Royce' and we were able to try a few samples- my favorite being the milk chocolate bar- Their chocolates are much softer than typical chocolate bars-- Melts in your mouth like mousse! Decadent and not overly sweet, rich and creamy in the case of the Nama chocolate (made with Hokkaido fresh cream) Melt in your mouth goodness.. My friend had gotten me their Nama Chocolate (strawberry champagne) and the matcha KitKat stick type snack. So delicious! The store itself is very cute and the sales associates will give you a mini overview of their story/history and let you sample chocolate pieces. They seem to have many seasonal flavors which is fabulous, from strawberries to kabocha (fall item). I want to try their liquor chocolates next. I visited Royce for a Yelp event, unsure of what to expect. I was the first one there and got an entire history of the company and the chocolates available. The nama chocolates were my favorite: creamy, silky, fresh. I've had a lot of chocolate in my life, but these were next level. If you like your chocolate texture melty, I highly recommend the nama chocolate. My favorite was the Nama bitters, which was a perfectly blended mix of sweet and bitter. After trying Royce's rich, creamy, yet melt in your mouth perfection, I don't think I can try any other chocolates again. The nama chocolates are 100! Even their dark nama chocolate balanced perfectly between bitterness and sweetness. How did they find this balance?!? Swiss chocolates are creamy but it's usually extremely sweet to me. So, while I do sometimes find satisfaction from a Swiss chocolate, Royce is next level. The word is wholesome; the taste was well rounded, it started and ended in a perfect circle of taste, texture, and sensation in the mouth. You must try it to understand it. I can't wait to go back! Visited between 3-4pm on 05/13/18. I expected better customer service than what we got. Royce is a Japanese company, with this shop being on Newbury, so I was expecting decent customer service: a greeting, asking if we needed help. We were the only ones in the shop, and had to stand around for a while until I had to approach the lone staff member staring off into space at the register. Then they acknowledged us and answered questions. If you are hoping for friendly service and help with this newer type of sweets experience, you may not get it. A must try if you are in the city. But be prepared this is not like European or American chocolate. The flagship is Nama that need to be cold but they are delightful. Nama is kinda like a light but very flavorful fudge. Especially the Tea and Champagne flavors. The whiskey flavor is nice if you like Scotch, not bourbon or Irish whisky but Scotch or mezcal as it has a strong smokey flavor. Oh yess, I dream about their chocolate when I crave sweet dessert. This chocolate is truly the best I've ever had and it's worth spending more money to get this than other chocolate brands like Godiva. I tried Nama chocolate "Au Lait" and "Champagne". Both of them tasted awesome. It just melts on your tongue and disseminates happiness into your brain. What I like about the chain is that I can also ask them to pack it as a gift. Nama Chocolate "Champagne" ($18)- These decadent pieces of chocolate were rich and creamy with a light champagne flavor, perfect for sharing or any romantic occasion. Overall Service: We were promptly greeted when we walked in by a nice young lady at the counter. She gave us a little space to shop and then offered us some samples and that's the only way I would agree why the prices for these chocolate were just right. I've never tasted anything like it. Wonderful chocolate, totally fulfilling my expectations that have had years upon years to swell to huge proportions. I found photos of the drool-inducing soft blocks of Nama Matcha Chocolate maybe five years ago on Insta and I even ended up trying my hand at making them myself. Mine turned out pretty good, though I had speckles of matcha as some of the green tea powder clumped as I mixed it into my white chocolate ganache. So while I happily finished my batch, I still yearned to try the real thing. My last visit to Beantown brought me to ROYCE' Boston. AT and my good friend (from old-school Yelp days) commented that the space looked like it was the scene of a serial killing, which was both really funny and highly inappropriate, seeing as we were the only customers in the store at the time. The space has a high-end, sterile feel about it. Come to whatever conclusion you want to. I cannot say if this is a Japanese aesthetic but it did feel super organized and hygienic, which is always good for a place where you buy comestibles. Anyway, the man at the register had an easygoing, fun demeanor and he was accommodating and helpful as I pulled box after box from the shelves. Little AT and I nearly finished the box of soft matcha chocolate before heading back to the A but we managed to keep a few to noosh on at home. We came back on our last day and grabbed more chocolates, with the same gentleman helping us. Some of other boxes of chocolates were gifted to family at home. In my opinion Royce is probably a best place to get gifts for friends/family for special occasions. I must admit that their products are quite expensive, but I guess its reasonable to get it like I said for special occasions. I heard Royce from my girlfriend, who always mentioning it to her friends of how their chocolate is delicious and it's a brand that is very popular among Asians . So it just happened one day I came across Newbury St to get her a present for valentine's day then there I saw Royce. I got their specialty product their Nama Chocolate, basically you have to keep it cool at all times by placing it in the refrigerator. I must say it was delicious.
