Royce is Japanese Chocolate made from the finest ingredients. You can look up the company information on their website. I was introduced to this business during a Yelp Event. It definitely makes great gifts. There's lots of options including chocolate coated potato chips. Ive purchased both the white and chocolate potato chips. I didn't like the taste of the white chips. The items are pricy but worth it. For the most part I've enjoyed everything I've tried. It's a matter of personal taste. I'm recommending. read more

Royce chocolate is one of Boston's best chocolate companies. I think that it is truly one of the best chocolates in the world. The milk in their milk chocolate comes from cows in Hokkaido, Japan... and they use more milk and cream, in their chocolate, than any other chocolatier I know. The resulting product is milk chocolate that is so creamy... It literally MUST be refrigerated. The soil is very rich, in Hokkaido, Japan, making the grass grown there, for their cows, VERY nutrient dense. THAT is what makes their milk and cream some of the best in the world. The Royce Chocolates staff is consistently highly educated, both about Royce's history and chocolate in general. They will patiently answer all your questions. If you want to learn about chocolate, this is the place to do it. THE DEAL: if you want some of the best chocolate in Boston, you have to try Royce chocolates! read more

I've been a fan of ROYCE' chocolate for many years. What I love most about it is the flavor, it's rich but not overly sweett!! I believe this is the only ROYCE in boston, just wish they carried more flavors like the stores in Japan. Judy, the sales associate, is incredibly kind, and they even have samples in the store so you can try different flavors before buying. Highly recommend! read more

Love Royce. It's always a hit when I bring it to gatherings. The shop is always filled with friendly staff eager to tell you about the company. I always come out with an excellent shipping experience. Judy has helped me multiple times and she's the sweetest and most patient. read more

Royce is right on newbury, super clean store, well air conditioned! Not our first time stopping in, but we had to get some favorites! Beautiful day, the store staff is always a treat, and the manager is super knowledgeable. They have samples at the register and they usually have samples on hand if you politely ask. Very accommodating each time we step in. We purchased a lighter load this time, as it was sunny out and we knew we'd be walking quite a bit out in the heat. 3 musts for us as treats! We purchased these items below: + Baton cookies - Fomage flavor, light, airy, nice flavor burst in each bite. 25 pcs. Now that I'm writing this, i need to buy 2 more boxes soon. Be a nice snack for work. + Milk chocolate and almond bar (very shareable). Creamy milk chocolate with plenty of almonds, soft chocolate (but that coulda been the temps) + Nama milk chocolate matcha flavor, super soft and creamy, plenty of matcha earthy goodness. Their packaging and presentation is always on point, great for piecing together a gift for someone or a special occasion. They also have different tier gift variety boxes for your budget from $30-$100 The variety boxes is a great way to be introduced to the types of treats they offer and you can find YOUR favorite. It is pricier, but you're getting sweets made by a chocolatier company straight from Japan! Hokkaido's finest! If you get their signature Nama chocolates they do package them with an ice gel pack and thermal sleeve so you have time to shop around newbury before it starts to melt haha. Keep those refrigerated when you get home! Will definitely be back! Thanks again! read more

The most delicious chocolate ever, like no other! They are $20+ per chocolate bar, but have become an ask for Christmas/birthday/valentines, etc. The packaging is unique, needs to be refrigerated. read more

I had the pleasure of receiving a mixed box of their chocolates for Christmas and I had never heard of them prior to this but I will tell you I'll never forget them after that. They are light and delicate, smooth and creamy with each variety possessing a unique flavor. Normally I'm all about dark chocolate with a orange cream filling but with each chocolate morsel I tried I found a new favorite. The person (Mai) who gave them to me said they were her favorite chocolates and I completely understand. These delicious chocolates are to be savored and shared amongst friends. Wonderful chocolates if you happen to be in the Back Bay anytime soon stop in and treat yourself, you'll see what I'm raving about. read more

I've been given the honor to sample THE Royce, a chocolate company originating from Hokkaido Japan! The associate was really kind and helped explain all of the chocolates on display in the store as well as all the chocolates I sampled. She even gave me a background on the history of Royce. Their Nama chocolate is their most popular and I was able to sample both their Ghana bitter and matcha white chocolate Nama. Their Nama is so uniquely soft due to their blend of liqueur and fresh hokkaido cream that increases the water content of the cocolate. I have to agree that their Nama chocolate is the softest and most enjoyable chocolate I've ever experienced. I definitely want to try more flavors and loved their tasting box which was perfect for that! My other favorites included their aromatic bitter coffee chocolate and their chocolate covered strawberry cream wafer! Definitely coming back next Valentine's day for me and my boo‼ read more

ROYCE makes unbeatable chocolate. Forget treating yourself with a massage you'll experience once or a manicure that will last a week. What you deserve is a box of truffles that you keep in the fridge and, if you have self control, you can nibble for weeks. I don't think it even takes that much self control though, these truffles are the perfect size to feel like total indulgence. The chocolate is so well made that you're satisfied and happy. It is a pricey purchase but worth it. The packaging and quality just make the whole experience so enjoyable, it's really hard to explain without trying it yourself. And fortunately you can visit the store and the lovely staff will let you sample and guide you toward the ideal chocolate or cookie or wafer or chocolate covered potato chip to make you happy. The store is hard to figure out without help. I haven't had a bad thing, but I've had some very good things, namely the matcha and champagne Pierre mignon flavored Nama chocolates (pictured). Look at their little boxes and perfect little rectangles! So pretty. So delicious. Don't mess around when you need a treat, go to Royce and spoil yourself. Let the capable staff steer you toward the treat of destiny. Enjoy! (Also almost entirely peanut free if you have a peanut allergy, and if you're allergic to cashew and pistachio, the two flavors I mentioned are OK.) read more

Next time I have a gift to give somebody who already has everything, but also has an appreciation for really good chocolate, I will go to Royce' for Nama chocolate. I sampled three different kinds, and while Ghana bitter and the matcha are really good, my personal favorite was the champagne chocolate. This type of chocolate is like a truffle and needs to be kept chilled so be sure to buy it soon before you'll give it as a gift or when you are close to somewhere with a refrigerator. read more

Wow! I didn't even know this place was here until my friend told us they had the best chocolates :) I originally came in for a sampling and the associate who helped us was wonderful! She gave us some history about Royce' and we were able to try a few samples- my favorite being the milk chocolate bar- Their chocolates are much softer than typical chocolate bars-- Melts in your mouth like mousse! We bought a box of their memories of Hokkaido chocolates and was told that the Barton Cookies "kokutoh" was only in this box. Can't wait to try it all out! read more

I visited Royce for a Yelp event, unsure of what to expect. I was the first one there and got an entire history of the company and the chocolates available. The nama chocolates were my favorite: creamy, silky, fresh. I've had a lot of chocolate in my life, but these were next level. If you like your chocolate texture melty, I highly recommend the nama chocolate. My favorite was the Nama bitters, which was a perfectly blended mix of sweet and bitter. They have seasonal flavors and really cute gifting options. These would be my goto for gifts. They are delicious, bougie, and universally likeable. read more

Visited between 3-4pm on 05/13/18. I expected better customer service than what we got. Royce is a Japanese company, with this shop being on Newbury, so I was expecting decent customer service: a greeting, asking if we needed help. We were the only ones in the shop, and had to stand around for a while until I had to approach the lone staff member staring off into space at the register. Then they acknowledged us and answered questions. If you are hoping for friendly service and help with this newer type of sweets experience, you may not get it. The 生チョコ was still tasty, but the service left a bitter taste in my mouth...and not the good kind. read more

After trying Royce's rich, creamy, yet melt in your mouth perfection, I don't think I can try any other chocolates again. The nama chocolates are 100! Even their dark nama chocolate balanced perfectly between bitterness and sweetness. How did they find this balance?!? Swiss chocolates are creamy but it's usually extremely sweet to me. So, while I do sometimes find satisfaction from a Swiss chocolate, Royce is next level. The word is wholesome; the taste was well rounded, it started and ended in a perfect circle of taste, texture, and sensation in the mouth. You must try it to understand it. I can't wait to go back! Did I say I'm not a sweets or chocolate person? They got me thinking about it the last 2 days since I've tried a piece. I'm a Royce addict and I cannot lie. read more

Best chocolate place in town! The chocolate basically melts in your mouth! Super soft, delicate, and simply wonderful! We bought three boxes of nama chocolates: bitter, islay whisky, ghana bitter! They are all wonderful and yummy! I used to try champagne pierre and they are very good as well! This location is hard to find parking but the staff is nice and friendly. We asked them to pack each box separately and they weee more than happy to assist! Don't forgot to enter your phone number for points bonus! read more

Quite a variety of chocolates made in Japan. White chocolate is my fave. Not too busy and they offer samples to try.

A must try if you are in the city. But be prepared this is not like European or American chocolate. The flagship is Nama that need to be cold but they are delightful. Nama is kinda like a light but very flavorful fudge. Especially the Tea and Champagne flavors. The whiskey flavor is nice if you like Scotch, not bourbon or Irish whisky but Scotch or mezcal as it has a strong smokey flavor. The staff was super helpful and they had plenty of samples. read more

What a great shop! Came here for the Yelp Elite event. And will be returning many times. Emily and Judy were so sweet and welcoming. They provided all their recommendations and what's popular too. Emily showed me so many products and explained their characteristics in great detail. She even shared how she came to work for Royce. It was very nice to hear about that. Their recommendations were based on my preferences, what's popular, what's in season, and employee favorites. This a beautiful store with many unique and high quality items. The tasting that was provided was quite delicious. Emily explained each item. The white chocolate formage potato chips were so delicious. Sweet but also umami. A more elevated version of this item. She explained that the coating has cheese elements-and it really made this ordinary snack extraordinary. The Nama (refrigerated squares of rich, dairy , confections) should not be missed. The mouthfeel, the flavor, the experience. You MUST try the Nama!! Take a look at the seasonal table. Emily and Judy will guide you! I love this store because of the asthetics, selection, and staff. Can't wait to visit again- and highly recommend you should too! Great for gift giving too. Oh yess, I dream about their chocolate when I crave sweet dessert. This chocolate is truly the best I've ever had and it's worth spending more money to get this than other chocolate brands like Godiva. I tried Nama chocolate "Au Lait" and "Champagne". Both of them tasted awesome. It just melts on your tongue and disseminates happiness into your brain. What I like about the chain is that I can also ask them to pack it as a gift. They put dry-ice in the package so that it maintains its texture for few hours. Everyone who received this present loved it! read more

Royce's Chocolate is an immaculate upscale Japanese gourmet chocolate store that's unequivocally chic and elegant. I've never heard of this international store before until my gf mentioned when she was traveling, she bought some amazing chocolate from their shop. And she knows her stuff, so, I was dying to check this place out. Potato Chip Chocolate "Fromage Blanc" ($17)- I don't typically like white chocolate but these chips dipped in their own chocolate were out of this world. The combination of salty and sweet... highly addictive. Nama Chocolate "Champagne" ($18)- These decadent pieces of chocolate were rich and creamy with a light champagne flavor, perfect for sharing or any romantic occasion. Overall Service: We were promptly greeted when we walked in by a nice young lady at the counter. She gave us a little space to shop and then offered us some samples and that's the only way I would agree why the prices for these chocolate were just right. I've never tasted anything like it. And if you try to order them online, it's a $39 flat shipping rate so it's better to purchase them straight from the store. read more

Wonderful chocolate, totally fulfilling my expectations that have had years upon years to swell to huge proportions. I found photos of the drool-inducing soft blocks of Nama Matcha Chocolate maybe five years ago on Insta and I even ended up trying my hand at making them myself. Mine turned out pretty good, though I had speckles of matcha as some of the green tea powder clumped as I mixed it into my white chocolate ganache. So while I happily finished my batch, I still yearned to try the real thing. My last visit to Beantown brought me to ROYCE' Boston. AT and my good friend (from old-school Yelp days) commented that the space looked like it was the scene of a serial killing, which was both really funny and highly inappropriate, seeing as we were the only customers in the store at the time. The space has a high-end, sterile feel about it. Come to whatever conclusion you want to. I cannot say if this is a Japanese aesthetic but it did feel super organized and hygienic, which is always good for a place where you buy comestibles. Anyway, the man at the register had an easygoing, fun demeanor and he was accommodating and helpful as I pulled box after box from the shelves. Little AT and I nearly finished the box of soft matcha chocolate before heading back to the A but we managed to keep a few to noosh on at home. We came back on our last day and grabbed more chocolates, with the same gentleman helping us. Some of other boxes of chocolates were gifted to family at home. I honestly can't wait to head back to Boston to get me another box of Nama Matcha Chocolate. read more

In my opinion Royce is probably a best place to get gifts for friends/family for special occasions. I must admit that their products are quite expensive, but I guess its reasonable to get it like I said for special occasions. I heard Royce from my girlfriend, who always mentioning it to her friends of how their chocolate is delicious and it's a brand that is very popular among Asians . So it just happened one day I came across Newbury St to get her a present for valentine's day then there I saw Royce. I got their specialty product their Nama Chocolate, basically you have to keep it cool at all times by placing it in the refrigerator. I must say it was delicious. I can't be too addicted to it so I would just eat few pieces once in awhile. Good place to get treats for your boyfriend/girlfriend! P.S Their Chocolate potato chips are pretty good too! read more

I love Royce chocolate, since I was in shanghai. I had been to Royce chocolate boutiques of New York, LA in USA, I'm a loyal fan of Royce, So once I know Royce come to Boston, I can't wait to get my Chocolate. But I was so disappointed. First, as I stepped in the store, no one said hi to me actively, there was a short hair white lady assistant there, I can't say her service was bad, but it was cold . Second, they are still selling the old style of caramelize popcorn, New York and LA had already switch back to classic style.
