On a recent visit to Chicago, I picked up some donuts first thing in the morning and took them to a nearby park to enjoy. These vegan donuts were so delicious that when we finished them, we turned right back around to get more. My first time at Beacon, I ordered the orange rosemary beignet. It was by far the best beignet I've ever had--so pillowy, with unique flavor and flecks of fresh rosemary inside. On my second time there, about 20 minutes later, I ordered the birthday cake donut, and I got a second beignet to bring back to my honey in CO. I carried that donut like a delicate flower on my multiple leg flight just to share its perfection with him. No regrets. Needless to say, my dear friend in Chicago keeps sending me pictures of Beacon donuts knowing that it's one of the top things that will bring me back to visit. read more

Amazing donuts. They may be the top 5 donut shops in Chicago. I didn't even know they were vegan until after finishing half a dozen box! Can't remember the flavors we got but can't go wrong with any. The standouts were the cookies n cream cake donut and jelly filled donut..the jelly filling was so fresh and could tell it was made with premium ingredients. Some of the consistency is not as fluffy as I would like, but that could be cause we ate the donuts hours after pick up. But the flavor makes up for any deficiencies in texture! Welcome to the neighborhood Beacon! LP has needed a doughnut place for a while and we were so excited to try them out. They are vegan doughnuts but we aren't vegan so we were a little nervous about that but honestly you cannot tell the difference! Everything was so good, made fresh to order. I reco going early if you want selection since these are made in small batches. We got a box of six, the sprinkle was eaten by a very sugar loving toddler and we basically finished all of them between 3 people in one morning. I never ever imagine I would say any vegan baked good is delicious. Beacon donuts are amazing considering that they're vegan. I preordered and picked up easily. Lavender vanilla was delightful. I wonder if they can do an earl grey vanilla? Their interpretation of Boston Creme is, dare I say it, better than the usual Boston Creme donuts. Gingerbread spice had perfect amount of frosting. I shared a 2nd lavender vanilla and a chocolate sea salt with friend enjoyed her donuts as well. The late donut was consumed 3 days later and kept its flavor. I found this vegan doughnut shop on IG and friends were telling me about it. So we ordering our 1st dozen vegan doughnuts the night before. When we headed out to their place...there was street parking in a nice neighborhood. Yeah, you have to walk through The Alley...we came to a painted wall with a ordering window. They had our doughnuts ready for us. We even met the owner which he was a very nice person. Once we brought our donuts by the car, we couldn't wait so we ended up eating a couple on the back trunk of our car with our Starbucks drinks lol! I felt like I was tailgating lol! We ordered at least 1 vegan type of doughnuts and doubled a couple more for a total of 12 pcs. Blueberry 2, hubby loves these fillings Choc Old Fashion 2, peanut butter Chic Spr, Samoa, Trad BM 2, Boston cream 2, I enjoyed this but wish it was a full Cream filled doughnut not a doughnut with a hole. It kind of fell apart a bit messy but it was still good. Double chocolate The doughnuts were light and not overly sweet. It's kind of pricey for our dozen donuts with tax and tip was about $27-$30... it's expected as I feel these are gourmet treats. Definitely not Dunkin' Donuts lol! We checked this place out last week and it was great. Tucktaway in an alley near the north west corner of Halsted and Armitage. You have to pay attention to their hours because the donuts are only available on certain days. We had gone there the day before and there were no donuts to be had. My soul was crushed and my mood was as low as my blood sugar. Fast forward to the next day when we got a lavender doughnut as well as a double chocolate. Both cake donuts- which is my strong preference. With some iced coffees. Mmm mmm good. I would recommend pre-ordering online so you don't have to wait in a long line. We are told that they sell out of donuts frequently. I like how this donut gem is different from any other doughnut shop. It's a place you must visit in Chicago. There are so many amazing donuts to choose. I'm not an "OMFG" kind of person, but that's really the only way to describe my thoughts when I bit into my first Beacon doughnut. (Also the second and the third, and...) Not thoughts really, more like feelings that surged through my body: ecstasy, astonishment, gratitude. Adding more words won't help to describe. They're simply, collectively, the most delicious doughnuts I've ever had. The blueberry pancake and boston cream were transcendent. The apple fritter and carrot cake were merely phenomenal. Another note on what makes this place special: innovation! Somehow they take a cake doughnut and fill the circular part, so that a filled doughnut is not a solid mass with a single blob of filling in the middle, but a ring of dough surrounding a ring of filling. I have no idea how they execute this feat, but it works brilliantly. No more dry bite, dry bite, dry bite, two bites with a teeny bit of filling, then one big messy bite at the end with all of the filling. They have achieved even filling distribution in every bite! This is a hidden doughnut spot in an alley of Lincoln park, which makes it kinda inconvenient but cool at the same time haha. There's paid parking all around though if you can find a spot. I was taking a walk with my friend in the area when we noticed the sign for Beacon Doughnuts leading us to an alley with a super fun and colorful mural at the storefront of the shop. At first I was a little off put due to the dumpsters that were located in the alley nearby, but found the actual shop to be really clean and appealing. I ordered the double chocolate & sea salt doughnut and my friend got the apple fritter. My doughnut was super flavorful and I liked the contrast with the salt and chocolate. My friend also really enjoyed the fritter. I liked that their menu had traditional flavors along with more unique ones (next time I'll try the lavender vanilla). I went a bit nuts ordering 6 for myself and my boyfriend but I wanted to try a variety. We ordered 2 blueberry pancake donuts, a glazed, chocolate caramel shortcake, lavender vanilla, and boston cream pie. The glazed was perfect, fluffy, not overly sweet but fully coated in the glaze. I also tried the chocolate caramel shortcake and it was delicious, however the glaze on the lower half of the donut felt like a bit much! I just took it off. Relatively new donut joint that started out at The Wicker Park Farmers Mkt and was wildly popular, they said. They have a pickup window in the alley right off Halsted & Armitage....it's behind The Store if you know what I mean! You can actually park in the old Trotter's Loading Zone for pickup. The donuts are phenomenal and I've been to all the donut shops in Chicago.... even Dat Donut. Some of the flavors will blow you away..like the lavender vanilla or the blueberry pancake... So damn good! They usually offer like 15 varieties and you can order online or just walk up and order. I would say order a half dozen online so you can be sure they don't run out of all the good flavors! Prices are very average at $16 for a half dozen; the hype is real folks. Talk later? My partner and I FINALLY got to try Beacon Doughnuts and it exceeded all of our long awaited expectations! We'd been wanting to try Beacon Doughnuts since the initial hype around their vegan doughnuts and their gorgeously muraled pickup window, but it's a decent walk from our place, so we kept putting it off. Last weekend, even though it was a little rainy, we took a stroll and found ourselves nearby. Because it was early enough and the weather was cold(?), Beacon wasn't sold out yet and there weren't lines around the block, so we pounced on the opportunity to treat ourselves. We exercised some restraint and only got three flavors to try--and each was beyond tasty. The Blackberry Bismark was a little messy because of its powdered sugar coating, but it added to the fun of enjoying it. Our favorite was the Chocolate-Caramel Shortbread donut which had an awesome mix of textures, was loaded with chocolate and caramel flavors, but wasn't too sweet. We're glad we've found our new favorite all-vegan donut shop. We especially appreciate the variety and that these are true donuts--not limited to the never-changing, basic vanilla or triple-chocolate cake donuts that other shops have. The donuts are homemade and vegan with quite a few fun options. They are definitely pricey but fun to try. I thought they were good but not as fantastic as everyone seems to think. I say this with authority: the Boston cream donut from Beacon is the best donut in America. And on top of that, I don't comprehend how it can be vegan. Has someone audited this? There's no butter from a cow in that donut -- cream, pastry, or icing? I'd also recommend any of their fruit donuts and the chocolate glazed brioche donuts.
