It's hard to write an unbiased review since I always have on my "Beach Goggles" when I arrive at BeachComber's in Anastasia Island. There isn't anything better than spending the morning relaxing by the ocean and later walking up to land to this hide-away restaurant to feast on their Honey Cajun wings! Not only do you feel a little smug that you are avoiding the tourists at this "secret restaurant," but also the view also can't be beat! You are literally RIGHT on the beach with picturesque sand dunes to view as you wait for your food.The outdoor picnic tables are painted in an array of bright colors reminiscent of the Caribbean and each shaded by a large umbrella. It's tough to judge how good the food actually *is* because you are FAMISHED by the overbearing Florida sun and nothing satisfies like their salty french fries, juicy cheeseburgers, or piping hot chicken wings with extra sauce at the bottom to dip the crispy wings into! I can't help going back for more and more! The only thing I didn't care for at Beachcombers was their Mozzarella Sticks. I'm sure they were frozen in storage and served with some prepackaged marinara sauce. We ordered them on our last visit and some of the sticks were still icy in the middle. The tap water also tastes nasty so you might as well order a "cold one" to complement Wing Nirvana on the best place on the Island! read more

We were disappointed in our breakfast experience at Beachcomber. I had a breakfast burrito~ probably the most mediocre one, ever, but filling, the potatoes were a little undercooked. My husband had a 2 egg breakfast with sausage, potatoes and toast. He found a hair in his food about 1/4 of the way into it. Because we both have been in the restaurant industry, we know that sometimes, hair happens. He continued eating only to find a CHIN hair in his eggs. He said, "What are they doing, shaving back there?" At that point, we were pretty grossed out and pushed our plates aside and left as soon as we could. This is a cool laid-back beachy kind of place, great to have a cold beer and a super location in such close proximity to the beach. They really just need to be a bit more stringent in the kitchen. The surfer-casual atmosphere and friendly service with cheap (well, St. Augustine cheap) prices made our night. And they know how to cook a mean Mahi-Mahi. The Cajun shrimp in butter sauce was also very good. We were happy to shell out $8 for half a carafe of chilled Zinfindel. Wine was good for the price. Don't come here if your in a hurry or have plans for later in the evening. One minor complaint keeping me from giving this 5 stars. My wife ordered a complementary chowder, but the waiter promptly came back and told us they ran out. No big deal. She asked for the other complementary side that sounded good, but they were out of that too. None of the other sides sounded great, so my wife asked to substitute onion rings, and they did, but upcharged us $2.50 or so. I'm not going to make a mountain out of a molehill, but in my book, when a restaurant limits the options of their clients, they shouldn't make the clients pay for their deficiencies. Nevertheless, I recommend coming here for the seafood and the setting, and following your meal with a walk on the beach. read more

Be careful here, because it is so good, so genuine it's really hard not to do it again next time. Walked up the beach from our place and decided to take a seat on their patio out back. Staff was a little slow but they made it to us and gladly took our order. It was happy hour which means $2 certain draws, which of course was the usual suspects, and not so cheap IPA's. Oh well. The $2 draws were good enough they ordered two more. Ordered some cajun rub wings which were good. They had a decent spice to them. Nice size and filled up to bellies. Service was good. Not overly fast but good. Prices were fair. Love the set up out back where kids can play in the sand with plastic toys while their adults enjoy some beverages. We would return. A great place for locals and tourists. Now there is nothing fancy or smanshy about this place. It is down home beach shackness. Which we totally love but isn't for some people. Walk, ride your bike or scooter or bring your car. My family and I had the pleasure of dining at the Beachcomber today! When we walked in we were greeted by our friendly server Chad and promptly seated, Chad took the time to go over the menu, the specials and recommend some of his personal favorites. We took his advice and started with the made to order guacamole, gator tail and the shrimp appetizer. For entrees we enjoyed the fried shrimp, stuffed mahi, baja tacos, fish taco special and the Cuban. We were not disappointed, the food was delicious, the portions were generous and the service spot on!! I would not recommend this place. Walking on the beach was nice but that's the only positive. We waited over an hr for our food and 2 of my daughters got food poisoning. Had to book new airfare for us $650. Coincidentally they both had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. Maybe we would have noticed that the chicken was undercooked if we could've seen our food without a flashlight as the patio is dark and table candles not operating. Please avoid. read more

The location of Beachcomber's is beautiful and the adornment is super appropriate and crazy-beachy, which I loved. The only problem was the service.. the girl was very unengaging and pretty rude. She forgot several things and gave my friend, who we were celebrating her bachelorette weekend, a really hard time when she sent something back. At one point the server came back to us in tears saying she was having personal problems, but that's still no excuse for such rude service. We tried the shrimp dip, which was lovely and freshly made there. And the fried platter of goodness was shared and devoured with love. Found this place searching on yelp and so glad we went! Get there early for parking or walk if you are staying nearby. Great atmosphere! True beach restaurant :). Menu has great variety and everyone was happy with their selections (from age 3 to adult!) ONLY drawback is that they don't have a full liquor license. We love the Beachcomber - great location right on the beach, although the downside of that location is that the parking lot is tiny and there isn't much/any street parking nearby. The food is quite good (but not great), with a mix of seafood and other diverse options. I don't really have one favorite dish, but tend to get seafood, often whatever is on special that day. My husband loves their burgers. I do recommend their Minorcan Clam Chowder, which is a healthier and tastier option vs. fries or hush puppies. If want to experience the beach life, this is a great place to do it! read more

We had a blast here. There was a sanded area for the wait and kids to place. Located a few steps from the beach. Food was sooo fresh and deelish. Greeted quickly and seated fast. Gator tails are AMAZING!!! Light sauce and very nicely fried gator meat. You have to try it.

We arrived just as they were getting ready to open and the hostess was extremely friendly and directed us to the bar and immediately came in and got us when they officially opened to seat us. The chicken tacos are superb the seasonings cannot be beat I would recommend getting the wasabi crema on the side for the tacos if they have it. Our server was kind and attentive but not overbearing which was greatly appreciated. Of course dining right on the beach is hard to beat! read more

This is a cute little place right on beach. Now, by all means it's not your five star, fancy dishes joint. However, one can appreciate the simple cafe/bar right on the beach. There's picnic benches right outside and you can also sit inside. When we went they had a special $5.50 for clamstrips with fries. They also had $2.50 Heineken light in the bottle. The menu has burgers, chicken wings, sandwiches, seafood dishes like fried shrimp, scallops and a fisherman's platter. It's a simple menu and I had the clamstrips special, not the best I've ever had, but hey $5.50 can't complain. My friends ordered the chicken wings, not great either. Here in St. Augustine Florida the Beachcomber is where to be. It's a rustic outdoor eatery. They sit right on the beach with walking access. Spend a day in the sand and water and walk over and have yourself a fantastic meal. I come here everytime I'm in St. Auggie. A few must tries are their Guacamole with salted lime chips. It is made with fresh ingredients and herbs and just enough lime. I could swear there was mint in it. It is so delicious. The Ahi Tuna tacos are cooked perfectly and stuffed with so much tuna it's heaven on a plate. It comes with 2 tacos and a side order, we got the slaw. Its enough to feed 2 people. The buffalo mozzarella tomato salad with a sweet balsamic glaze is light and fresh bursting with flavor. Cocktails we had a Moscato pink lemonade with strawberries. This is a great place to eat! It's sort of off the beaten path. When you stroll in it's all open air, patio seating is basically on the dune. It's the epitome of beach eating. The food is hit or miss, just depends on what you get I think. My brother had the fresh catch tacos-very, very good. I had the tuna salad sandwich, it was your basic sandwich, no complaints. I honestly can't remember what my sister in law had. My kiddo had a hamburger, she really enjoyed it. We also had onion rings, delicious! It was a great trip. You really go here for the ambiance more than the food though I'll be honest. It's truly a beach place, you don't need to dress up fancy to go here. It's a fun visit on vacation and I always leave happy. Service leaves quite a bit to be desired. You could tell our waitress definitely didn't have a care in the world. read more

My boyfriend and I had lunch at this cute beachy spot located right behind the dunes on our recent visit to St Augustine. We ordered alligator and calamari for apps and the calamari was honestly the best I've ever had, it was so light and crispy. The alligator was good too, except for two strange chewy pieces. I ordered the ahi tuna tacos and while the tuna tasted very fresh, the tacos were a bit bland. My fish taco were bland but edible. The Mahi Mahi was fair and unremarkable. And two people in our party ordered the SCHOM'S REVENGE and we're sorry a couple of hours later.
