Great place. Picked up sandwiches from here for our trip into the Redwood national park and the sandwiches did not get soggy even after 4 hours. They tasted great too. Stopped for breakfast on the way home from Redwood National and State Parks. My wife had the english muffin with organic cream cheese and I had the english muffin with cream cheese, lox, onion, and capers. We also bought some baked goods. Coffee was excellent. Highly recommend if you are looking for a breakfast/brunch spot along your 101 drive or if staying at Jackson state demonstration campground as we were when we headed up to crescent city. Such amazing Chai Tea Lattes! They do not skimp on the spices here, yummo!!! The cafe Latte was also good. Be prepared though, they don't have paper cups so bring your own mug if you're on the road or be prepared to purchase a $1 mason jar for your coffee :) A side note; I was hoping for breakfast but all they had that was gluten free were muffins. Amazing food, always yummy. Super friendly staff. They do not use single use items, even during the pandemic, but have found ways to still provide food for everyone in a safe way! My husband had poached eggs over onions and greens on a bed of polenta. I had the vegan beloved. The greens were excellent and everything else was prepared well. Price was average for CA and we would eat here again should we ever decide to visit the area again. It only loses kudos because of the service and cleanliness. I usually don't talk trash about a local establishment but I was completely insulted by the chick cashier. We came in with 10 minutes til close. There was three people in front of us in line, one person behind us and multiple tables in the dining room area. The cashier served BOTH customers in front of us espresso drinks. When I ordered two lattes she said she "was saving herself time" and could not serve any more espresso drinks. I said thank you but I wouldn't like anything else and turned to leave. As we were leaving the cashier said to the customer behind me "ugh...last minute customers!" What kind of cliquey kind of service is this?!?! Terrible. We turned our exhausted car into little Trinidad and were immediately charmed. The Beachcomber is an easy find -- bright orange and very simple for street parking. The best part is the food. All fresh and yummy. We had the turkey panini and the day's soup, a potato leek with kale. Oh my. It was thick with good sized pieces of veggies. To me, simple, fresh ingredients spell love, and this little lunch had love all over it. The help was friendly, the service was timely, and we left happy. I also bought a beautiful focaccia for dinner tonight. We will see how that is. read more

My husband, myself and our 2 year old son had lunch on a Monday. It was not overly busy when we arrived. No one greeted us when we came in, and since we hadn't been before, we weren't quite sure how to go about ordering or being seated but we quickly discovered that you order at the counter and seat yourself. The menu was very appetizing and clearly displayed all the quality local and organic ingredients. My husband and I both ordered the hot turkey panini with Diestel organic turkey, organic pepper jack cheese, and what they call the "frills," which was red onion, tomatoes, leafy greens, served on a kind of thin, crunchy focaccia bread. Good flavor, nice fresh ingredients. We weren't crazy about the bread, but the sandwich was quite good all in all. We ordered a grilled cheese for my son, with organic white cheddar and served on the same bread. It was pretty good for a grilled cheese, though much larger than he could eat. A kid's menu or portion size would be nice. I also ordered a small cup of creamy broccoli soup, which was just okay, and it turned out that we really didn't need it as we had plenty of food otherwise. We also had one cup of coffee. They give you a mug and you choose between their assortment of carafes. You have to pay for refills. The coffee was good. I had a delicious smoothie with fresh berries, bananas, not sure what else, but it was tasty. Organic apple juice for my son. We received our drinks right away, but the food took a little while, perhaps 35-40 minutes, which was a long time to wait with a hungry 2 year old, but we did sit right next to a great little kids play area. They had a small table and chairs with books and toys, and a toy kitchen, and it kept our son pretty busy while waiting. The total came to $46 with tip....a bit pricey in my opinion for lunch, but I can really appreciate their quality ingredients, which I know are expensive. I am not giving 5 stars due to the cost and the longer than average wait, but I would definitely go back again. read more

Cute little spot! had live music (chill, quiet older guy playing guitar and singing covers) on a sunday morning in the garden dining space. Love their no disposable cup policy and they are definitely being really good about social distancing and covid precautions. only reason for 4 stars is it took a really long time for the food to come out (it wasn't too busy), and the food was mediocre. I got the eggy and the eggs were perfectly poached with a ripe avo, but the egg muffin underneath was way under toasted and the whole thing was a bit bland. could use some sort of sauce on it like hollandaise or something. sort of regret not trying the griz. reasonable price though for the portions. will prob come back tomorrow morning and try something else! camping not too far away. read more

i had just come from putting an offer on a home in mckinleyville and was excited to drive up to trinidad for the first time in over 30 years. i planned to eat lunch at the beachcomber cafe because they were highly recommended and i was told how great the owners were. i looked at the menu beforehand and knew i would have something of a hard time finding something to eat because most of the menu consisted of sandwiches and bagels. i cannot eat wheat and the gluten-free bagels had sugar in them and i do not eat sugar. i can eat eggs but for some reason they only serve poached eggs which are the only form of eggs i cannot stand. i asked to taste the soup and luckily is was not spicy and i ordered a bowl of soup and coffee because the chai had sugar in it too. i was told it only had a little sugar in it. i was pre-diabetic for 7 years without eating any white sugar or cane juice. sugar affects me like a poison. as i was getting ready to pay i asked if any of the desserts that looked like heaven were sweetened with honey or any alternative sweeteners and i was told no. regarding my inability to eat sugar the cashier responded, you must have a really rough life. i said not really, depends on where you live. i either make my own food or in a place like santa cruz where i just relocated from, it was easier to find things i could eat and this surprised me about humboldt so far. she responded with well, i'm sorry we can't give you your perfect dream food here. i'm not trying to give you any attitude. at this point i was getting frustrated with an all natural organic cafe giving me a hard time about food sensitivities. i asked her to stop giving me "attitude." at this point all the other waitresses noticed the escalation and some woman, maybe the wonderful owner i was told about, got in my face and defended the cashier and told me the cashier had sensitivities too while putting her arm around her. after explaining i recently went through breast cancer and was told sugar is one of the worst things i could eat i took my credit card back and started to walk out while all of them erupted into loud laughter. customer service anyone? how about basic decency? since i will be living close to this gorgeous town, instead of being a regular customer i will never step foot in there again nor try their other location in bayside. it's a shame because there is no other place i can eat there which means i probably will not go to trinidad as often. read more

I give this cafe 5 stars for their food and 1 star for the girl who helped us. The Beachcomber is expensive, but they have good quality food and beverages. Their vegan veggie lentil soup was wonderful and the thin toasted piece of focaccia bread was a perfect match in consistency and flavor. Their mango black tea was fresh, fragrant and strong - perfect for a tea lover. Their coffee was good and hot, but their darkest roast was not very dark/strong. Their blueberry lavender muffin was light and airy, however you must like flowers in your quick breads otherwise you will not appreciate, which my husband did not. I have been wanting to visit the Beachcomber for over a year now, because a few people I know said it was a great cafe. Unfortunately, the young woman working the counter was very rude and had an air of self-importance that was disappointing and sad. Still, I'm glad I visited, the meal was perfectly warming and helped me finish my 2 hour ride home. read more

We go here whenever we have family visiting from the SF Bay area, always making sure to bring our own cups (otherwise you have to use their dishes or buy a mason jar - no to go cups available to reduce trash). It's a small cafe that focuses on coffee, soups, salads and sandwiches. The front cashiers do a good job of letting you know what is or isn't available, but the lack of pastries some times is just SAD. I love their wildberry scones whenever they have them, and the bagels w/ cream cheese are loaded (which is important, because Los Bagels in Arcata is infamous for overcharging on small bagels). If you want a little bit of Ecotopian hippy goodness, then definitely go. read more

My husband and I ordered a bowl that normally comes with egg and cheese and asked if the items could be omitted. The bowl was 10 dollars (beans and about a teaspoon of salsa). We paid for greens in addition to the price of the bowl of beans (10 dollars for beans, plus 2 dollars for greens = 12 dollars). The dining area was dirty. The café asks you to bus your own table. Friendly suggestions to the staff: Have a few healthy options for plant-based eaters, like a quinoa or rice bowl, with beans, greens and a tahini sauce. read more

Ok, two stars because the Americano I ordered was fairly descent. It was very frustrating ordering my coffee to go and being told they don't supply to go cups. Instead I was told I would have to buy a $1 mason jar to put my coffee in. I reluctantly bought the mason jar because I wanted it to go and it was soo much fun burning the hell out of my hand in a scolding hot glass jar. When I asked them for some type of sleeve to stop from burning the skin off my hand I was offered a funky hand made sleeve for about $10. Expensive, service non-existent, food and coffee mediocre. We were really stoked to check this place out based on reviews and disappointed when they were closed yesterday (we ended up going to The Eatery down the street - would give that place 4 stars in comparison), but we came back this morning with a friend. The coffee was whatever and they make you pay for refills (coffee tasted way better at The Eatery, wasn't overpriced, and was still organic and fair trade). Food was overpriced, and the salmon was way too fishy and left both my boyfriend and friend with an upset stomach immediately. The ambiance was totally lacking also. No music, felt like you had to talk as if you were sitting in the library at school, flies everywhere, staff wasn't friendly, and the bathroom... They leave the window above the toilet open as people walk by, so they can totally look at you with your pants down?? We didn't get it. Then yeah you have to bus your own table... which by the end of the whole experience just makes you dislike the place even more. Would never go again. I'm being generous with 1 star and only because I love the little beach town of Trinidad. I really wanted to like this place as allot of locals/friends love coming here. Every time I've been I've had to wait an ungodly amount of time for a simple order. Most recent was this past Saturday my bff from SoCal came up and we were heading out to hike Strawberry Rock. Decided to stop here for a quick breakfast before our hike. We ended up waiting 40 freaking minutes for 2 bagel sandwiches. There were 4 ppl including us in line, the customers that were seated already had their plates of food. Why it took 40 minutes to take an order and throw a bagel sandwich together is beyond me. Don't know how this place stays as busy as it is because there were only 2 ppl working the entire kitchen and cashier. I get the small community and wanting to be kind and chat with your customers but keeping customers waiting because your chatting with your "friends" is completely unacceptable. When I finally asked the employee the status of my order and added that we've waited over 30 minutes she said the kitchen was busy and our order would be right out. We got our food about 10 minutes later wtf! I had to ask for a steak knife to cut through the hard as a rock bagel.....a steak knife! Between the shitty attitudes, crappy food you'd think the staff would be allot more friendly, but they're not, not at all. I will not be supporting this local establishment, and you shouldn't either. Keep driving a few more minutes and enjoy great food, great atmosphere, a beach view and a lovely staff at Trinidad Bay Eatery. ****Some professional advice to the owner.....staff your kitchen and dining room accordingly.
