This was our normal go to weekend breakfast spot. We wet there this past Sunday. We were so disappointed. The food was bland, portions were small and I saw two very unsanitary incidents by the staff. One server was wiped the table with a napkin that had dropped on the floor and another server used her finger to wipe a fork before she rolled it. Lost me as a customer. read more

Had breakfast there this morning. We were seated at a booth and as I looked around I could see old food and liquid splatters all around the attached woodwork. It was very obvious this has not been cleaned in a long long time. If it looks like this out in the open where the patrons sit, I shutter to think what it looks like in areas customers don't normally see. So how was the food? Well the eggs were over cooked and if you ask for crisp bacon you actually get burnt bacon. The only good thing was the toast. Despite the hype about this place it seems a dump to me. Pretty decent dinner with a great beachy, laid back vibe. There was a wait to get in but not bad and the weather was good to sit outside. Varied menu with lots of choices. I chose the Godfather sandwich as I was not in the mood for breakfast. It was pretty good. Great flavor on the meats and the bread was nice and toasty. The fries could have been could a little more as I like them crispy but tasted good. Next time i'll try to get a signature dish as this was just an Italian sub. Listen, I know this place is a lot of people's comfort spot, and Covid has been tough, but I was traumatized at this place and I can't stand by and let others experience what I experienced. I wish I took a picture of it, but I was so disgusted by the thing I saw that I needed it out of my face immediately. I ordered a breakfast burrito to share with my mother, and within the eggs was a German Cockroach. The bug was whole and dead and inside my breakfast burrito, and if I had taken a slightly bigger bite, I would have eaten it. I talked with the staff (well talk is a strong word, I was pretty hysterical in that moment) and they gave us the meal for free but I was so disgusted that I threw up when I got home anyway. I will never eat here again, and I hope my situation never happens to another customer. I don't think I've ever left a restaurant as traumatized as I left this place. read more

I just want to start by saying we come here often and it's usually good but we prefer metro diner. I've been sick in bed so my husband took my daughter in this morning for breakfast and I asked for him to bring me home a Greek omelette and a bagel with cream cheese. First of all the bagel was burnt and the one side of cream cheese was warm. Then the 3 egg omelette was most definitely a 2 egg at best. One of my go to breakfast restaurants! I recently went with a group of six moms and five toddlers mid morning mid week and had a great experience. The breakfast rush had died down and they were able to put together a table very quickly (and had plenty of high chairs). I always order the Eggs Bayou Benedict with Potatoes... always super yummy! Service is always very efficient and friendly. I never feel rushed to leave, as you pay at the front counter when you're ready to go. read more

I came to Jacksonville, FL for a possible educational/career opportunity and my friend that lives in the city suggested that we go to Beach Diner for breakfast before my interview. Since she was driving and giving me a tour of parts of the area, I did not have a choice. Despite that, the food was delicious and the customer service was very excellent. I ordered an omelet with fruit and toast with a delicious glass of water and an elegant glass of 1/2 sweetened tea. Seriously, the 1/2 sweetened tea had an awesome taste! My family and I came here for a birthday breakfast on Wednesday morning. The food was very adequate. We sat at a booth that was right by the kitchen. I was looking around, watching the workers in the kitchen, and a male worker was in the kitchen vaping. He was standing by the toaster, vaped, and then proceeded to take an English muffin out of the toaster and put it on a plate. When the meal was ready, I watched him bring the plates to the table next to us. I am very glad we did not order English muffins, but felt very uneasy eating our food as who knows what took place back in the kitchen. While not bunched in with the rest of the chains and restaurants on the beach strip, this little place is located conveniently on Atlantic Ave. It is very clean and staff is friendly and attentive. My visit was on a Tuesday morning, and started with a good cup of coffee. Looking over the menu and observing the food coming out it was clear their portion sizes are fair and inline with their reasonable prices. For me it was the Beach Benedict and fruit that caught my eye. Fruit was ripe, cold and delicious. The citrus of the pineapple and tangy grapes worked well with the richness of the crab and Hollandaise sauce. The Benedict had a generous portion of crab on an English muffin, crispy bacon and velvety smooth Hollandaise sauce. The addition of the crispy bacon sets this apart from other crab Benedict's I've had, not to mention their flawless buttery lemon Hollandaise with diced tomato, for around 9 bucks made this a great way to start the day. Skip the franchises and tourist spots and opt for this place. You will be glad you did. read more

I asked for a recommendation from the lady behind the counter and without hesitation, she suggested her favorite - the Eggs on the Bayou, which is eggs benedict with crab meat and bacon. When I heard bacon, I was sold. For the side, the choices were grits, potatoes or fruit. Being wary that the potatoes may lack seasoning given the apparent epidemic in Jacksonville, I asked and was assured that they were good. And to my delight, they were, hence the 5-stars despite my English muffin being burnt. The hollandaise sauce was also tasty, which is no easy feat. This is our second annual Jax Beach mid-winter getaway. We opted to forego the complimentary breakfast at the hotel and found this lovely dive. Clean, friendly, old school... We love supporting local spots like these! We had the french toast, over easy eggs, corned beef hash, crispy bacon, grits, bagel, avocado, spicy country sausage, coffee and OJ (it was a free for all for the three of us!). Was looking for breakfast food at lunch time, and this was the closest place that popped up. Wow, am I glad it did. I went in on a Friday, and it was pretty packed, and very loud. Promptly seated and served. I ordered eggs Benedict with fruit. The eggs were perfectly poached, the Canadian bacon grilled just right, and the English muffin toasty and buttery. The bernaise sauce was perfect. The fruit was all fresh and ripe. The staff were constantly running around cleaning and sweeping. The decor is typical country diner/beach themed.
