Just re-tapping this review to tell everyone that nothing has changed. This place is still the best BBQ in the area for my money. I don't often get to stop at this particular location, but I did this past weekend because I was headed down I-85 on my way to South Carolina. Stopped in for a sliced brisket tray with coleslaw and hushpuppies. Was treated to a very generous portion of some absolutely succulent brisket. This stuff was thick cut, had a beautiful deep pink smoke ring, and just incredible flavor throughout. Great brisket is something you'll struggle to find in this area of the country where pork is such a focus, but Joe does everything well! read more

We've been enjoying almost weekly dinners at this BBQ Joe's (there are two) ever since it opened, and have never been disappointed. My favorite things are the Friday pork loin special, their pulled pork, their rotisserie chicken, and in the biggest surprise for North Carolina, their chopped brisket. I don't care so much for their sliced brisket, but if you've never had brisket in Texas, as I have, you will probably enjoy it. As for sides, their sweet potato casserole is amazing. We love BBQ and thought when we moved to NC our heads would be spinning with so many BBQ choices. Not true, at least where we live. But there is a BBQ Joes right on our street that came highly recommended, so we tried it. THE GOOD NEWS: Reasonably priced. Wonderful BBQ meats and ribs, strange, doughnut-shaped hush puppies, good coleslaw (green), strange coleslaw (red), WONDERFUL sweet potato casserole. THE BAD NEWS: Mediocre bbq beans (not your mamma's baked beans) God awful potato salad - think mashed potatoes with mayonnaise. Bad mac and cheese - think WAY overcooked pasta. Food is excellent! Their BBQ Sauce is one of the best I have ever had. Customer service needs some work. Young ladies could work on their manners and their interactions with the customers. Especially the young lady working the drive thru. Some reason they feel like no one new comes there and everyone knows how they work. The place is clean. The prices are very fair. The food is good. The service. That wraps this place up in a nutshell. Our food came out quickly and our order was correct. The barbecue was really good. It was moist and the barbecue slaw on the sandwich was good. I got a side of baked beans. They were okay- they had a little beef brisket in them. My son got a "Joe Q" that was about double the size of the regular barbecue that I ordered. We enjoyed our meal. The dining area was clean. The restrooms were clean and didn't smell bad. They have a sanitation grade of 97.0 posted. I felt confident in the cleanliness there. I wish I had saved room for dessert. The table next to ours ordered some great looking desserts. I stopped in for take out. Had the brisket sandwich and fries. The sand which had a nice portion to it and it was flavorful. The sauce was sweeter than I expected from a Carolina BBQ place. Was driving thru town on the way from Charlotte to Roanoke for work when I realized I was craving some NC BBQ. I saw the sign for BBQ Joe from the highway and decided to make a pit stop. There's always a bit of trepidation because you never know if a place like this could be a backroad smoker but I knew I'd be ok when I saw the Trip Advisor badge on the front door! I visited during lunch on a random Thursday - the place was busy but not packed. The restaurant itself is large, clean and bright. I ordered the 2 meat platter (sliced brisket & chopped pork) with Mac & Cheese + BBQ slaw and a side of hush puppies. I'm an eater but this was WAY TOO MUCH food, even by my standards. I resisted the urge to clean my plate because I wanted to save room for the homemade banana pudding...and I'm glad I did because it was AMAZING!! I guess some expect that service at a small town restaurant in the Southeast would assume that service would be friendly but BBQ Joe exceeded my expectations. My waitress was super patient as she explained all the dishes to me but extended every courtesy as if I were a regular. Absolutely stellar! All in all, my lunch came to $20, including tip. Excellent value for the $$. Wouldn't hesitate to come back here on my next trip to the area. read more

Our first lunch at the second BBQ Joe's location was very, very nice. The restaurant, which opened in July 2015, is located on NC Highway 62 just off Finch Farm Road, and occupies the relatively new building which formerly housed Smokey T's BBQ & Broasted Chicken. The restaurant is well sized, bright and well lit. We've come to enjoy BBQ Joe's smoked items (especially the Chopped Pork and the Beef Brisket), but we also are very fond of their country cooking choices - and most especially the Chicken Fried Steak and their Country Style Steak, the Thursday daily special. The Chicken Fried Steak is made with quality meat, is very well breaded and fried, and the exceptional White Gravy brings the whole dish together, as it should. The Country Style Steak is its equal, and for the same reasons - the rich, brown gravy is amazingly flavorful. And in both dishes, the portions are nice. The sides are a mixed bag, but the Mashed Potatoes (with gravy, of course) are real, and they are spectacular (as Teri Hatcher might opine). The HPs are nice also, with a touch of sweetness. The service here was the equal of the original location, at the very least. read more

We heard the hush puppies were amazing via Yelp so we gave them a try too. Not sure how it can have onion, be slightly sweet, and still taste amazing but they were and they did. Not my first time dining at BBQ Joes, but this was my first time at this particular location. I do like the interior and seating area better here in Trinity, rather than High Point; it's a bit more updated and much cozier. Menu is exactly the same as High Point except I did notice that there were a couple things that they do not offer, like freshly baked cakes. I was disappointed because I always look forward to a slice of their homemade cake to take home...oh well, they do offer the peach cobbler and banana pudding and they're both great. Instead of my usual barbecue I decided to try something different; I ordered the chicken & dumplings special with two sides and hush puppies. I chose macaroni and cheese and tater tot's for my sides. Everything came out hot and tasty; I enjoyed the chicken & dumplings, the dish was a little spicy from the black pepper and I really enjoyed that flavor. The first time I tried chicken & dumplings down here in the south (not at this restaurant) it was very thick with not a lot of seasoning (even though it was good). This particular recipe at BBQ Joes is very homemade, seasoned nicely and is very comforting. I would get it again. We were seated quickly in a nice booth and while we did get our food promptly, the service was just decent, unfortunately. Hit the jackpot stopping here on a trip! Less than 1/2 mile from the interstate. Very clean restaurant and we were seated right away on a Friday. Prices are good and there are daily specials. My food came out hot and fresh with good portions. Server was attentive and food came out quickly. The chicken was tender and skinless so very easy to eat and I loved the red skin on the potato salad and the apples were delicious! The hush puppies were huge and came out hot and crispy. The food is good, but their prices have skyrocketed. 1/2 rack of ribs and two sides is $25. We've been out of Covid protocols for a long time now and they still do not have wait service. If you want a drink refill you have to stand in line at the register and hope the teenager with earbuds in will acknowledge you waiting patiently for a drink refill. read more

Drove a few miles out of the way based on these reviews and found Joe's to be better than average but short of road trip worthy BBQ. If you are in the area then sure give it a shot, not much else around anyway. No smoker outside so I assume they are cooking on a gasser as only a few sticks of kindling were spotted around back. Broad menu (don't bother with their web site, it only shows catering options) with daily specials, sandwiches, burgers, dogs, and BBQ. I wanted to get the full experience so I went with a combo plate, chopped pork and St. Louis style ribs with fries and slaw. Start with the good, the chopped pork was very good with hints of brown bits and not overcooked. The pork comes with a splash of Joe's basic sauce which is sweeter than typical Carolina style sauces, definitely a Western style sauce as opposed to straight vinegar/pepper from the East. The alternative on the table was a highly spiced and slightly thicker vinegar sauce that had a strong chili flavor. The white slaw was very good, chopped fine and reminiscent of the slaw at Skylight Inn in Ayden, NC. The donut shaped hush puppies had great flavor as well and with 3 to a serving you would be hard pressed to finish them all. Had I only ordered the chopped pork this would be a 4 star review, however, the ribs fell short on quality and flavor, very disappointing. The meat fell off the bone (Fail in BBQ) and appeared to be either slow cooked in foil in an oven not a smoker as no smoke ring or smoke color was apparent on the outside. I was served the end ribs in a cluster not sliced individually and required a knife and fork as they were very wet almost crock pot wet. When I order ribs I want to pick them up and gnaw on the meat and see smoke ring and rub on the ribs, not sure these were even rubbed first. Forget the fries as they are just seasoned frozen fries from a bag, go with a veggie as an alternative. BBQ Joe's while good is not 100 miler (maximum distance you would travel for great Que), more like a 10 miler for me. It's often hard to duplicate success when opening a second branch of a restaurant but recently I've witnessed this twice; first was Melt's new location on New Garden in Greensboro and now BBQ Joe's newish location in Trinity. The last time I was in Trinity was a stop at Sheetz. Had I driven 100 yards past the entrance, I would have noticed the BBQ Joe's sign directing me to make a right. My son and I were deciding on dinner. He had just spent time in High Point but wanted BBQ and were close to the highway. I said let's go to the Trinity location of Joe's and he was all in. We drove with the convertible top down and after a 25 minute drive pulled into Joe's, the smell of hickory and charcoal enveloping us. Sat down and noticed it looked like a cleaner, newer version of the High Point location. That's not a knock on cleanliness of the High Point location, it's just a much older building that's seen a lot of business and former restaurants. We were served fast and drinks came out as I walked back from washing my hands. My son ordered a rack of ribs (which I knew I'd help with and take home some leftovers). I ordered the Country Fried Steak after reading fellow Elite Fred's suggestion. Sides were mac & cheese, BBQ beans, BBQ slaw and apples. Okay-the sides were all perfect and just like HP. The hush puppies crispy and hot and DELICIOUS! The ribs fell off the bone, juicy and perfect smoke and flavor. Now for the County Fried Steak. Maybe the best I've ever had. The Steak could be cut with a fork-the outside crispy and the white gravy? I wanted to drink it-that good. I want to come for breakfast for some biscuits, sausage and gravy now! I love country fried streak (sometimes called chicken fried). I've had it all over Texas where German immigrants adapted pork schnitzel recipes to the local beef and added the gravy over time. I have no idea how it can be so crispy, wet with gravy and fork tender. I've talked to Joe before about his food (and his amazing charity work-he's humble but know he's fed volunteers around the world). He had a passion for making great food and it clearly comes through on this newish location. So, um, I liked it-and it was nice to try an amazing, non BBQ dish! read more
