At this Randy's, I ate what was literally THE best pancake I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, soft, buttery. 0 room for improvement. This is how I want all my pancakes to taste. I also had hashbrowns with sausage, peppers and onion, and cheese. These were also delicious: crispy, filling, and with the vegetables -- somehow also fresh. Servers were overwhelmingly attentive. They all rotated through and checked on us constantly. There was one time that 3 different people asked if we needed anything in what had to be less than 5 minutes. Food is bland, service was poor-wrong drinks and food were brought out...waitress was supposed to add onions and peppers to the omelette...to correct the issue, she took the omelette and magically brought out the same omelette with a few scattered onions and peppers stuffed into the omelette. So they basically handled the omelette again slapped some stuff in it and folded her right back up. Who does that? Weird vibe too-they have regulars apparently and if you're not one of them they'll cater to you at their convenience. read more

Pretty inviting place from the outside. With all the Rural Electrical Service Trucks and a Fire Truck sitting in front of the place you know this is the place where the locals eat. Upon entering my wife and I were told we could sit anywhere we wanted. After trying out a few booths I immediately realized I had gained a few pounds around the middle. On the 3rd booth we settled in and immediately met our waitress who gave us our menus to order. Before she got away I asked her for her recommendation and with a smile she immediately answered "I like the omelets" and off she ran. Before I could checkout the rest of the menu a different waitress showed up to take our order. This was our first time here so I wasn't surprised when my wife ordered her usual BLT as she judges most smaller generic Diners by their BLTs and restrooms. This second waitress suggested "hot chips" as a side to the BLT which wasn't included but worth the extra money as they were very crispy. Thinking our first waitress had been working here awhile I took her bet and ordered the bacon, cheese and sausage omelet with extra crispy hash browns and a biscuit because they don't have English Muffins at this establishment. After we chatted about the 2 Gender Bathroom for just a few minutes a 3rd waitress brought us our food with jelly and butter for my biscuit. From my perspective this is a local place that is well run by women and does a pretty good job at matching what you ordered with what the kitchen can deliver. My omelet was hot, tasty and my hash browns were the best hash browns you can get this side of Minnesota. The prices were very good and service while stern & to the point was excellent. All 3 waitresses weren't interested in chit chat or being your friend but they did focus on what we wanted - Good Home Cooking & very fast service. In fact the bill comes to the table with the food at the same time so you can get in and out of there as fast as you can eat, pay the bill at the cash register and get your fanny out the door. That explains the Firemen eating here. Just for fun I plan to come back, checkout the restroom and find out what these women can do with a Pork Chop or Hamburger? Spaghetti was the special of the day but glancing over at a big burley workman attacking it the sauce looked a little sparse & weak as I like heavy meat tomato sauce that hides the noodles. I will talk like a lawyer to have my wife accompany me as she thought her tomato wasn't ripe and her BLT a bit dry. She said coffee was weak but she's Swedish so I hear that a lot. She loved the Hot Chips ( not spicy at all) and we think they are homemade but not sure. I couldn't talk my colleagues into barbecue for lunch because they're picky, but they settled on the diner approach, so we gave Randy's a chance. Sitting right on the side of 64 makes accessing this place easy, even if it's not really in Lexington itself. The six of us were seated quickly, got our drinks without delay, and soon after had our plates at the ready. Everyone in the group ordered some kind of sandwich or burger, and from all accounts none of us were left disappointed. My personal choice was a double cheeseburger with typical Carolina style accoutrements of regular slaw and chili. The beef patties were a little drier than I prefer (though I know most restaurants would prefer not to take any chances in serving their customers undercooked meat) but still had nice flavor, and they were nicely sized. Red slaw was an option for the burger, and though I like that variety with my barbecue it doesn't seem well suited for a hamburger topping; the more standard variety of slaw was fine. And I didn't end up with chili running down my arm, which is always a plus. Other group members sampled the club, chicken Philly, and Philly steak sandwiches in addition to burgers, and everyone seemed pleased. For diner grub, Randy's measured up to our standards. Our waitress stayed attentive to our table's needs and to several other guests. The place seemed clean, well kept, and apparently the recipient of a remodel in recent months. If you find yourself in the area and in search of roadside standards, I'd recommend a visit. read more

Well I was headed into Lexington around noon and I noticed quite a few cars outside Randy's Restaurant, so my thoughts were if there are that many vehicles it must be pretty good so I circled back around to chow down. I'm a traveling salesman and have been for the last forty years and somehow I have never noticed this spot. As Lexington is known as a Barbecue town, I've eaten at Smokey Joe's, Barbecue Center, Lexington Barbecue and a couple of others that I can't recall, as I am getting old. I didn't notice a smokehouse on the premises but the menu says it is their specialty. I usually get a large tray at the other joints in town, and I am quite partial to the corse chopped tray at Smokey Joe's. Lexington Barbecue is more hype than anything else, it is pretty good but over priced. At all the other joints a large tray runs around $10 for just some Q, slaw, & hush puppies, but at Randy's you get about the same amount of Q plus 3 sides for $10 and it's quite the bargain. On to the food, the Q is not quite chopped, but not quite corse either neither is it pulled, it's almost a combination of all styles. The vinegar sauce they put on it is more Eastern NC style than Lexington style. The don't have any additional choices on the table, but you really don't need any. The fried squash was hot and not greasy, the broccoli and cheese was a little cool but is a nice side, and the red slaw could have had just a touch more vinegar but is as good as any. I now have an additional choice when in Lexington and it is the best value I've found around for a complete barbeque meal. read more

I stopped in on my return trip from Greensboro. The place is small diner but it is clean and roomy inside. They have a 95.0 sanitation grade. The parking is good here. The food was decent. I didn't have a dedicated server. They waited on my table by committee. I saw three different girls during my visit. They did not offer Brunswick Stew as a side. I tried unsuccessfully to order a sliced barbecue sandwich. I was told that I could only order chopped barbecue. If you cook your own barbecue why can't you easily produce a sliced barbecue sandwich? I settled for chopped sandwich with a side of hush puppies. The barbecue wasn't bad. The hush puppies were pretty good. They gave me a lot of hush puppies for my money. The price was defiantly fair. The sauce they used on the barbecued pork was good. The servers were nice. There's better barbecue out there but the food is still better than eating at a fast food chain restaurant. read more

I pulled in here as the huge sign said Lexington Style BBQ, so that is kind of what I was expecting. I saw no smoker and asked if the Q was pit smoked. The waitress said no. I asked how the pork was prepared and she said she wasn't sure. So, I have no idea how the food is cooked. The BBQ arrived drenched in sauce and was a bit tough so I am guessing it has been frozen at some point (not sure as the employees couldn't tell me). The portions were large. If you just want a large helping of food and a couple of sides for $8 to fill you up, this is the perfect place for you. If you are looking for pit smoked, great Lexington style BBQ you will get a much better experience at other restaurants. read more

Delicious food. Like some of the other reviews said, come hungry. My husband and I was here got the BBQ plate. It was delicious! As for the sides we had mac n cheese, green beans, baked beans, hot apples, and sweet potato casserole. Everything was great except for the mac n cheese. It had no flavor and was super watery. The sweet potato casserole was just amazing. We also grabbed two cookies on the way out. The peanut butter were good but the chocolate chip could use some work. We will definitely be back though. First: Randy's is NOT the place to go for pit-cooked Lexington BBQ. It's a marketing scheme to build on the Lexington BBQ reputation; shame on them for that, because they have no BBQ cooking pits and it overshadows their other great food offerings. Randy's is most famous for their "home cooked" meals that include country style steak, chicken pie, REAL mashed potatoes, chicken livers, spaghetti... I hope the new extensive renovations include the rest rooms, which are currently quite challenging for people with mobility issues, which cost them one review star. read more

I had a craving for country ham and I knew where to go, Randy's on hwy 64. I was not disappointed. Ham was a large slice and cooked by someone who knows how to cook country ham. This is mine and my husband's third visit to Randy's. First time we got the homemade chicken strips (very good), second time we had breakfast (I had French toast) and this time I remembered to take a picture.. I had the chicken pie, green beans & homemade mashed potatoes. All very good. My husband had the 6oz. Sirloin tops and they were the best I've ever had. Will be getting those next time! Nothing spectacular here, just solid country cooking, well served, at reasonable prices. The place is not much to look at, the kind of little joint you'll sail on by if you didn't know about it. They serve a great breakfast, and they do it all day long. Eggs are fixed the way you ordered them, and the hashbrowns are really nice. Good burger, fries are only so-so, and the hot dog is weak in flavor and the chili is a little sweet. Meat and 2's are generally very good, especially the chicken livers, and the fried chicken served on the weekend. Good food, good service, good prices. Don't let the apperance put you off. read more

Coming from a guy who's been a judge at the BBQ festival and connoisseur of real pit BBQ. This is unfortunately not BBQ, tastes more like boiled piglet, the bread was soggy and falling apart on the s'wich. There is no smoke or flavor either in the air or the pulled pork. It was by far the worst meal I had all month. The vinegar based sauce tastes like ketchup & vinegar + black pepper...if that does it for you. Very dissapointed after craving good BBQ all day. No ribs, no baked beans, no chicken or anything else that you expect. Guess there's always the salad bar buffet if that's what you want. read more

I enjoyed the food there, the fried chicken is so good. I also tried my friend's steak tips which was also good. We were going home on a business trip from NC and my friend who's driving says there's a really good place that he always stops by when he's on a road trip. I was kinda hungry, so we came there. The waitress was so sweet, she commented me the chicken, I'm so happy I got it! The chicken was like a mixer of chick-fil-a and zaxby's chicken, tender juicy chicken on the inside and crispy on the outside. I also ordered a side of Mac N' Cheese and my total was around $6. We tried Randy's and liked it quite a bit. They have a full menu of southern foods, and include many yummy side items. The facility is a bit dated and rough around the edges, yet still works for a down home atmosphere. I have drove by this place for years.I was coming home from a ballgame and hungry.Well In I went.I needed something kinda fast.I ordered a cheeseburger and fry,with a tea belly washer.I had Lettuce,Tom,mayo. On my burger.My food came in a basket which I sometimes like.I have to admit my meal was very good.Nice thick burger,not skimpy on the lettuce and tomato and plenty of fries.My glass never went empty.Since my first visit I've had lunch which comes with different meats and veggies daily.So far breakfast wise I not been disappointed yet.They have a killer BLT that the first time I ordered one my waitress told me liked theirs herself.Good omelet's and hash browns to.Service is very good every time I have stopped by.Randy's is a family owned and run establishment.Only set back to me is some eating places because of one reason or another you get a real coffee cup,other that that it's styrofoam plates and cups.Randy's has a small but nice salad bar and they also sell BBQ. My family and I were traveling to Burlington and decided to try Randy's out. It started out well as the coffee was great. Our food came out in a timely manner. But the food wasn't the best. Interesting experience today. I will get to the food later, but I want to start with the show. The place was occupied by about ten locals whose banter was pretty amusing. But the baby stole the show. What baby? The one who was passed around by several members of the waitstaff(in the midst of serving food mind you), and then was placed on the bar counter and spoon fed by her mother, a waitress who was standing behind the counter while she fed her child. Pure country. As for the food: The home fries, though they needed salt, were excellent (crispy exterior and beautiful peppers and onions), the fried bologna was very good, and the eggs were good. The biscuit was just ok. But the remainder of my experience took a sharp decline from there. The tenderloin was thin, tough, and devoid of seasoning. The coffee was weak, and the creamer was non-dairy. The grits were among the worst I've ever had--very dry and grainy. read more
