Found this place on Yelp since we were close by, we decided to try it. Everything was delicious! My husband got a Reuben Sandwich, which was big enough for two people. He liked that it had a good amount of sauerkraut on it, which helped add to the flavor. I ordered a cheeseburger--the meat was well cooked and well seasoned. It was hand pattied and tasted very fresh. The curly fries were super tasty. My favorite part was the banana pudding that was so good that I didn't get a picture of it. This is the second week in a row we ordered the 8 oz sirloin steak. Last week was good, but today-- not so much. One steak was half the size of the other and very thin. The larger steak was ordered "medium" and ended up "well done." The smaller sirloin was ordered "med. well" and ended up "well done." Very well done. After a long rainy night in the Uwharie we were looking for a good breakfast on the way home and Rick's definitely delivered! I got two eggs, pecan waffle and a coffee, while my youngest got a Belgian waffle with Peaches and ended up getting their own plate of eggs after having some of mine! Just about everyone I know has mentioned this place at one point or another, but I had never had the chance to eat here. Today I joined my family for lunch and was eager to see what the hype was about. Talk about crowded. It was pretty tough to find a place to park because the lot was slammed full, but even so there were a couple tables open so we didn't have to wait at all for a seat. I've heard a lot about how good the hamburgers were so naturally I got one - and it was....ok. Not bad, but not great. I feel like the party was a little dry, and I was told afterwards I should have gotten it with chili because that tends to make them more moist (I went with lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, and onion). I was actually more impressed with the chicken patty sandwich I ordered. Once again it was nothing fantastic, but it resembled something you would get in the cafeteria in middle or high school - so I think the nostalgic feeling was actually kinda cool. Anyway this place was nothing over the top, just a small town restaurant that has decent food and friendly service. If you ever pass through the town of Denton it wouldn't hurt to stop by and give it a try. read more

Stopped in for lunch finally after driving by this place a hundred times. Rick's is a staple in the area and I've heard that when there is an emergency like a power outage, the workers make sure that Rick's has power because they will feed them for free. Anyway, I decided to try the hamburger steak I had heard was pretty good. The only thing was that it is served dry. When I picture hamburger steak, I expect brown gravy with mushroom or onions or something like that. They give you A1 sauce and that is better than nothing. They serve baked potatoes at lunch, but it wasn't quite as hot as you would expect, it barely melted the butter. The cole slaw was ok, mainly it was too wet and was swimming in liquid. My friends grilled cheese and hot chips was pretty good. The service is very friendly and quick. I will have to stop in again and try something else next time. read more

Rick's, Owner Kelly Smith has as good a breakfast as it comes. The gravy bisquits are wonderful. Nice portions of country ham or tenderloin. Hash browns a plenty, I don't think you'll leave hungry. Or plate lunches with Stew beef, or poppie seed chicken,hamburger steak, plus healthy choice of veggie's to go along with it.They have great Grilled Chicken salad that's a meal of it's own.On Tuesday's a real treat if you get there early for lunch. This place has gone downhill over the past few years. The quality of the food and service has gone down, and the price has just gone up. I went in just days ago to support a local small business, and nobody (not even staff) was wearing a mask! I thought it was disappointing, so I immediately left. Food is about average, nothing to write home about but also nothing to really complain of either. I eat the hand pattied burgers on most occasions. The big R burger is my norm. Was in the area for business and decided to stop in. When we walked in the door there was no indication that you can seat yourself. So we stood and waited and finally the staff told us to take a seat where ever. We sat down and someone came out with menus. I looked over the breakfast and then I saw fried chicken. Why yes I will. My friend order a special of the day and I asked about how long the fried chicken would take to cook as some places tell you 20 mins or so. She drops the ugliest word ever it is frozen. Frozen fried chicken sounds so amazing, she said it was good "for frozen". Sigh give me a burger. Now while waiting we kept talking and my friend makes a comment about the tea, I honestly and truly believe it is powder ice tea double sigh. Our food arrives and my friend had the ham and two veggies and my burger and fries. Now my burger was easily 1/3 of a pound hand patty. It was good, needed some seasoning though. His ham like mentioned in another review was dry and just meh (the special wasn't special). Then we check out, oh my, chaos at the highest of levels. Staff were rushing around trying to figure out what was what. The cashier had stacks of checks everywhere in an almost organized chaotic manner. She was clearly frustrated and struggling to keep up. This quaint little local eatery may not look like much on the outside (with the exception that the parking lot is full during lunch time. That's generally a pretty good indicator of a good eatery) and when you enter just make yourself at home and find a table. The servers will bring you a menu and silverware with a smile. The ambiance isn't much but a small town dinner. One thing that caught my eye when previewing the menu was Rick's Restaurant Promise to not cutting corners when it comes making their food. A nice touch. So I orderd the special (roast beef) and 3 sides of sliced tomatoes, shoepeg corn and green beans. While waiting I just watched the locals interact with each other and the staff greeting the locals by name. Didn't have to wait long for the meal to arrive. The food was fresh, portions were good and the staff was prompt and courteous. The roast beef was tender, vegetables were perfectly cooked and seasoned well. My drink never reached below 1/2 full before being asked if I wanted a refill (appropriate for local diner). The staff checked back to insure everything was good, and flowed up if I wanted any desert after the meal. Being a true foodie, I wouldn't feel a review was complete without also experiencing a little desert as well. LOL Based on the recommendation of my server, I got the blueberry sweet potatoe cobbler. A unique crumbled crust cobbler with a great flavor. It was also the special of the day. Overall this place is a great place to stop in for some local diner fare. I recommend it. read more

We live one town over and heard The Village in Denton was a good place to eat. So we decided to check it out. It was Sunday and didn't realize it was closed So we drove around and landed at Rick's Restaurant. It was about 2PM. The place was packed. Everybody was a hugging and a kissin and asking about how their momma was. Nice little country restaurant. Me and wifey are Rueben Sandwich Aficionados. So we ordered one and split it. We weren't disappointed . It was really good! It was on a Thick Marble Rye Bread. It only came with Potatoes Chips. And it was pricey at $9.00. Highly recommend it. Our waitress was very nice. We compare all Rueben Sandwiches to what we consider the Gold Standard. Served at The Village Grill in Lexington. Hands down The Best! You get a side and a salad for $8.50. Def check out Ricks Restaurant if you are nearby. We will return. read more

The shrimp was over cooked and the hush puppys were over cooked they looked black. My plate looked like a dog went to the bathroom on my plate. I was so disappointed in this place. Now I know why I don't eat there. They need to check the plates before they serve it to their customers. And I've had friends say the same thing. They could not eat theirs either. The shrimp are breaded salad shrimp . Not even big enough to eat. The cook needs to be taught how to cook. I give it two stars since the Breakfast is the only meal worth coming for. Lunch and Dinner are a bust. The last time we chanced it we ended up with cold food. The poor waitress had to take it back an have the cook heat it in the microwave. This was after we had waited almost 45 minutes for our food in the first place. When the waitress brought our food back it was STILL ice cold. She felt so bad. The owner was even there walking around and knew the kitchen was screwing up and instead of fixing it he just ignored it. We never went back. We used to go for breakfast every once in a while but since this latest debacle we never went back at all and don't plan to ever go back. I would rather eat Bojangles. read more
