We've lived in Salisbury for almost 4 years and never knew this place existed. I'd compare the food to a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. The vibes give more of a log cabin, hunting lodge on the woods. If you're not into dead animals hanging on the wall, staring at you during dinner, then this might not be the place for you. Our service was great...once we got to our table. But we had a reservation and weren't seated for THIRTY minutes after, so that was brutal and certainly killed some of our excitement to be trying this place out for the first time. But the food and wait staff was exceptional. We will certainly be back and hope to have a better experience. read more

Went here for an amazing dinner! This was our first time here and I treated my husband to a wonderful steak dinner. My husband loved his ribeye And he said the hot spicy crab dip was second to the one we have had in Florida. Dallas, our waiter was amazing. Super friendly and kind enough to switch out my over done rare prime rib. Having the filet rare is so so clutch. Topped the evening with the turtle cheesecake! Absolutely delicious! (They have a dessert tray) Loved the rustic family like style of the restaurant with the deer heads and memorabilia on the walls. Can't wait to come back to try their martinis. (FYI there is a 2 martini limit!) And fyi for the Steelers fan in your life this is a Steeler bar. I didn't know that until my husband so that. So eyeroll... we will be back. Ivan's is a no frills solid option as opposed to any chain steakhouses. I've been multiple times and usually get a ribeye or prime rib. Both are solid...maybe not quite on the same level as my favorite steakhouses but for a place that is close to home I'm not mad at it. Servers work hard to build a relationship with each guest and are accommodating-mine remembered my name from a past visit. Decor is unique as there isn't a real identity (taxidermy on one wall, then a dog adoption picture on another, pink mens bathroom)....thats a nitpick on my part lol. If I could give Ivan's 6/5 stars I would. We have dined at this restaurant on numerous occasions, each being just as memorable as the last. The food here is always delicious, consistent, and the service is great. We always come back for the beer cheese soup but are more than pleased with our entrees whenever we eat. We had a wonderful meal for our Anniversary! Quiet and upscale ambiance with attentive service. Our server, Jensen was great, friendly and met all our needs with a smile. Drinks, appetizers and dinner all came out in a timely fashion. The filet was perfect! Best we've ever eaten. We both liked the onion soup and Maryland crab cake was a good as I've had in Baltimore. We finally made it here. After months of talking about it and planning with friends, dinner finally happened. It was Saturday and Ivan's opens at 5. They do take reservations but I've been told if you are there when they open, you can usually get a table. We got there at 5:10 and the place was already willing up. But we did get a booth for the 5 of us. Ivan's definitely is a more upscale place than what I am used to but comfortable attire is acceptable. You don't need to dress to the 9's. The hostess was sweet and polite and showed us to our booth. Our server was cheerful and very helpful. She gave us menus and the wine list. We all got ice water and she also brought a big basket of fresh rolls and butter. Excellent ! 10/10 on the crusty rolls. Ivan's is NOT cheap so just be prepared. Ivan's is known for their steaks and prime rib. Although they do offer salmon, chicken, ribs and the like. I'll speak for my family and our food experience. My oldest daughter ordered the Cajun chicken, baked potato and broccoli. My wife ordered the salmon, baked potato and veggie medley. I ordered the 10oz prime rib, medium with veggie medley. We all got salad as well. The salads came first and they were very fresh. Not even a hint of old lettuce. Very good. Ivan's also offers a palate-cleansing sorbet after your salad before the entree comes. Pretty nice. My daughter was disappointed in the chicken. Two small boneless breasts with seasoning on it. She said the chicken was dry. I told her it was a steak place but alas, she ordered what she wanted to. Potato and broccoli were good. 5/10 on the chicken. Wife loved her salmon and the rest of her meal. 10/10. My prime rib was EXCELLENT and served with a creamy horseradish sauce. Outstanding. Although I ordered it medium, it was a bit on the rare side but the taste was superb. Would definitely get it again. Between the rooms, salad and main meal, nobody had room for dessert. Ivan's is an excellent place to get a special meal. On our budget, this is a once, MAYBE twice a year place for us. We treated our two friends to their dinner. For the five of us, plus $30 tip, the bill came to $198. With the exception of the chicken, all the food was outstanding. The chicken is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. This place is well worth a visit for a special occasion or if you are blessed with a healthy wallet. We I'll go back. But my wallet needs to recharge first. read more

On October 25, 2024, we went to Ivan's Restaurant on 2024 Old Mocksville Road in Salisbury, NC, to celebrate a special birthday. It was meant to be a memorable evening with good food and good company. As we shared stories and memories, a strange chill crept into the air, causing us to exchange puzzled glances. What we experienced left us feeling profoundly disappointed and disheartened. Starting with the food, I ordered the prime rib, hoping for a flavorful, tender meal to mark the celebration. Instead, what arrived was dry, tough, and lacking any seasoning or attention to quality--a letdown that I truly hadn't expected. Sadly, I couldn't even eat it, despite trying hard to make it work. But it wasn't just the prime rib that left a bitter taste; it was leaving us sitting in a dark dining area experience. The night took an eerie turn when, suddenly, the restaurant dining area lights were shut off. Without any warning or explanation, the lights were turned off in the dining area. We sat there, unsure of what was happening, watching the staff and patrons at the bar glance at us from across the lit-up bar space while we gathered our belongings in the dark. No one came to our table to check on us, explain why the dining area was left in complete darkness, or offer an apology. We felt isolated and disrespected, left to find our way in the darkness as though we weren't valued customers or valued humans. People continued to sit at the bar with lights on, peeping around the corner of the bar and watching us scramble to gather our things in the dark This feeling of disregard was only compounded on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. When my colleague called the restaurant to voice our concerns, hoping for some understanding, the owner's response was shockingly dismissive. Instead of empathy, we heard defensiveness and blame--a claim that another customer had turned off the lights and, incredibly, "What do you want me to do about it?" The conversation was devoid of any understanding or accountability, and the harsh tone was unexpected and hurtful. The owner abruptly hung up the phone on my colleague as they attempted to express our concerns about the unsettling experience of being left in a dark dining area after the lights were turned off. Despite their efforts to communicate how this treatment made us feel, the owner chose not to listen or address our concerns. A simple act of communication or courtesy could have changed everything. If we'd been told the dining area was closing, we would have understood. Instead, we were left in the dark--literally and figuratively. As people of color, we can't help but question whether others might have been treated differently in this situation, left with an unsettling feeling that won't easily fade. If I could give Ivan's Restaurant a below-zero rating, I would. This experience was not just disappointing; it was hurtful. My advice to others: go where you are valued and treated with respect. read more

We were visiting from out of town and were very pleased with our experience. The prickly pear margarita was good and others at our table enjoyed their drinks off the extensive martini menu. Went for the first time last weekend and can't wait to go again! Had the Brie appetizer which was wonderful. All three of us had Caesar salads which were very good. Then for entrees 2 of us had the prime rib which was DELICIOUS! Huge cut, well seasoned, I'm drooling thinking about it! My son had the NY strip which he said was very good and he's picky about his steaks. We shared a serving of grilled asparagus which was very good. Don't know what the seasonings were but it was delicious. We all took a half of our meals home for lunch next day. We also took 3 desserts. I loved my cheesecake!!! Such a neat spot off the beaten path! Ivan's is definitely worth the trip out of the way. I have now been to Ivan's probably 5-6 times and really enjoy my trip there each time. Just a bit outside of "downtown" Salisbury, Ivan's is on a street corner in a nondescript building surrounded by a large gravel parking lot. Heading inside, it is not what you would expect, a somewhat rustic hunting cabin feel but also upscale and classy. It is a very relaxed atmosphere! We typically have reservations, but if you do not, they have a very nice well stocked bar where you can grab a drink, as well as a front porch with some rocking chairs to wait outside! The service has always been EXCELLENT on every trip I have taken to Ivan's and certainly a step above the other options in the area, which is probably why you are there in the first place! A nice touch is the sorbet before your entrees! As for the food, I have never had anything that was bad. I have had a few different steaks, the grilled shrimp, and pork chop on different visits. With that said, I have also never had anything that really blew me away either. Not saying it is bad AT ALL, and is better than most of the other options relatively close by, but I would not compare it to a meal at a high end restaurant. I have especially been disappointed in the sides a few times. The one exception to that would be the beer cheese soup in a bread bowl. A fantastic meal by itself in the cooler months, and one of the things that will keep us coming back occasionally! Overall, Ivan's is definitely worth a look if you need somewhere a little more upscale in the area, and you are sure to enjoy the laid back atmosphere and top notch service! read more

We tried to make a reservation for 2 for our anniversary, but they said "they only took reservations for 8 or more, just get here at 5:00 when they open and we'll be able to seat you they said". Got there at 5 and were told, "sorry we have no tables left unless you want to wait for 2 hours". Great way to ruin a special night - and they didn't even seem to care! Also it was raining and they have a dirt parking lot, so the black Lincoln came out two tone brown and black. For what they charge, they can afford to pave their lot! While they have good food, it is very expensive and they really don't care about their customers. We even spoke to the owner and he acted like he could care less too. Not going back again. Been to this restaurant several times and went tonight to celebrate my birthday as well as my Dad's birthday. Took over an hour to get our food that was lukewarm. My Dad can't have salt and his shrimp were salty. The owner said they were not and called my husband a jackass. This was after he yelled across the restaurant at me for raising the blind on the door. He said he could do whatever the hell he wanted to do in his restaurant. Worst expletive ever with a $100 price tag. Update: I share a birthday with my Dad and he died in January. I went to Ivan's last night to meet some relatives who were in town visiting from California. They are used to eating in some of the better restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area so I didn't want to take them to one of the chain restaurants and we wanted a place where we could have a quiet conversation. Ivan's is one of the few places I have found in the area that meets my criteria. Our meals were excellent, as usual. Service was perfect. I wish I had passed on the dessert, not because it wasn't good, but because I ended up finishing it by myself and realized I had overeaten. This is a classic restaurant. I had the small petite filet and it was amazing. The atmosphere was very comfortable and the staff was very professional.
