I've always enjoyed eating at Blue Bay until I seen the intestinal track left in my shrimp. Over 75 percent of the shrimp was not cleaned. Shrimp poop goes against my strict diet . I called to inform Blue Bay about their uncleaned shrimp and did not get a friendly customer service. Guess my feedback was unwanted. I expect to get what I pay for. I thought I was paying for clean shrimp. I learnt the hard way that shrimp can very dangerous to your liver if it is not clean. Beware pay close attention to your baby shrimp. You do not want your liver inflamed nor the medical bills!

Oh my gosh they use to be so good and a good value but not anymore. We've been going here probably 30 years and we stopped 3 years ago because the Monday night shrimp special just wasn't even worth the low price of 4.99. I believe now it has gone up again to 5.49. We decided to go back and give it another chance on a sunday evening...big mistake. They have a list of sunday specials, the baby shrimp plate on sundays is 11.99, what the heck is special about that? Answer...nothing! It was a plate full but not at all worth the higher price tag. One thing I always liked about them is no matter what you were drinking they brought a pitcher of it to the table and left it. Now they only do that with tea or water and I hate having to beg for Cheerwine refills. Going on hiatus from them again! I'd rather drive 30 minutes to Concord.

They cut down the menu items and increased the prices. More general or staple items are now up charged.

Even with the rain pouring outside, the restaurant was completely full -- chandeliers glowing, fountain flowing, conversations everywhere. Somewhere between the lobster, caviar, and the ambiance, there was a small snafu. The hostess later sent over dessert to apologize. A small gesture, but one that made the night feel even warmer.

It seemed it was prom night, and there were many well dressed kids (mostly girls...with dates?). In any case, the place was gorgeous as usual...and as usual, the menu was a bit offputting. The price points are truly outlandish for what you get here. An example? A basic burger is 24 bucks...without fries! Truly, you're paying an extra 15 bucks or more for the ambiance. Pricing aside, even the options on the menu was a bit of a head scratcher. Honestly, there's barley a thing on there that appealed to me. Well, it used to be the Lobster Roll...but I had that a few times, and frankly, it's just not that good. It's small, and the bread is too hard...and again, despite the outlandish pricing, it doesn't even come with any sides. If this was any other restaurant, I'd probably just want to walk out. But then, there's the ambiance! Even that was a bit of an issue for me. On this night, there was hardly any music playing...and if so, it was on so low that I could barely hear it. There goes part of the ambiance...at least for me! My husband got his usual...the French Roasted Chicken, my son got the Roasted Sandwich, and I got the Shaved Ribeye Dip. We also ordered the Fries and the Creme Brulee for dessert. Well, more than ever, we all were extremely disappointed. First of all, my husband's dish looked nothing like it used to...paled in comparison in taste and presentation! In fact, afterwards, he said he'll never choose this place again to celebrate his birthday! My son and I just felt our sandos were OK at best...and really for its ridiculous price point, they were bordering bad. The bits of salad with our hand-helds were Argula...pretty, but possibly one of my least favorite veggie? Fries were good...but priced separately for $11-12 bucks, they should be! Then even the dessert was abysmal. Most creme brulees come with fruits...or some type of topping. Not here! Just a basic creme brulee. SO basic...with 1 ugly candle for my husband's birthday. It wasn't complimentary either. Just a DUD all the way through! As gorgeous as this place is, I'm just not sure if their foods are worth it anymore. BTW, for drinks, I got this Orange Cocktail (Blah!), and my husband got some beer (?). Again, nothing special. If this place cares to up their game, they should try harder...but apparently, they don't. In fact, it seems things are getting worse. I mean, just look at the recent Roasted Chicken plate...TERRIBLE!!! One thing positive is that we managed to get some good birthday pictures out of this fancy schmancy scene with good lighting....but the rest of it was just beyond underwhelming. Sorry, but gotta drop down to 2 stars this time.

You know you're walking into a place that has really paid attention to the details from the moment you walk the door. We like to sit at the bar where it's a little more laid back although we've had dinner in the dinning room several times with friends. The tables in the back by the kitchen are the way to go if you're looking for something more intimate. I like to get a dirty martini and my wife get champagne. We get the Torched Scallops with caviar and the hamachi for appetizers and for dinner we usually split an entree. Everything really is next level although my favorite is the seabass. The service is outstanding. Everyone acknowledges you with a smile and "good evening, sir" as you walk past. It may not sound like much but these are the extra touches that make the place so special. Food was good overall, but uneven. The Branzino was excellent and easily the best dish of the night. The grilled shrimp were solid and worth ordering. The Asian salad was fine, nothing special but fresh. The Ribeye was average at best -- cooked fine but missing the flavor you expect when you order a steak here. All in, this place is more about the setting than the food. The meal won't blow you away across the board, but the atmosphere makes up for it. The rooftop area was gorgeous, service was great, and food was impeccable. My group started with a round of server-selected apps--we asked for his top three & Sir more than delivered. Creamy burrata, perfectly crisp artichoke (with potato slices mixed in as an unexpected & delicious touch), & some of the BEST grilled shrimp I've ever eaten. I rounded this out with the mini lobster rolls--not mad at the generous dollop of caviar to balance the tender creaminess of the lobster & crème fraiche--and truffle fries. I look forward to many happy returns. Cheers!

It's one…read moreof those comfort foods I don't eat often because it's so rich--but when I see it on a menu, it absolutely catches my attention. That's exactly what drew me to The Southern Pecan in SouthPark. Here in the South, they call it country fried steak, and I'm happy to report this one did not disappoint. I met a colleague there for lunch, and everything about the experience felt easy from the start. The restaurant is located in Phillips Place, a lovely little shopping area that feels a bit polished and upscale--with shops like Orvis, Tory Burch, and even a Restoration Hardware restaurant nearby. They do offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, though honestly parking is easy enough on your own. We had reservations through OpenTable and were seated on the patio, which was absolutely delightful for this time of year in Charlotte. The weather was perfect, the setting was relaxed, and the service started off warm and welcoming right away. Now, the food. The country fried steak was beautifully cooked--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that hit all the nostalgic notes from my Texas upbringing. I paired it with a vegetable side (I believe it was broccoli or corn), and it was a classic Southern plate done right. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and to finish, we split a praline bread pudding, which felt like the perfect Southern ending to the meal--sweet, comforting, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive, and one of the things I continue to appreciate about Charlotte is how easy it is to connect with people. We even chatted with diners at nearby tables, which added to that welcoming, community feel that makes dining out here so enjoyable--especially for someone coming from the Bay Area. Prices felt fair for the quality, the setting, and the portion sizes, and overall the experience left a great impression. Bottom line: If you're craving a solid Southern classic like country fried steak--or just want a relaxed patio lunch in a charming part of SouthPark--The Southern Pecan is definitely worth a visit. And as someone happily eating my way through Charlotte and the Southeast, this stop was another reminder that the journey has been a delicious one.

It was already quite busy when we arrived and it's not clear where your parking options are. People are pulling up to the entrance and dropping people off so it gets jammed up and chaotic, of course people are running late so those BIG Yukons and Suburbans are making it a challenge to navigate a small entrance area. You would THINK they would at least have a Valet option of Sat/Sun during Brunch. To park, go BEHIND the restaurant on the street to the left and you'll see some free parking options that are close and walkable. We asked for a table on the patio and were immediately seated. The bar was already buzzing with solo diners enjoying their Mimosas. The patio is NOT that big, a little over crowded and table are very close with not much space in between. There was a LARGE group of 'FUN' ladies right beside us enjoying their MIMOSAS, dropping the 'F' bomb from time to time and making a LOT of noise. What can you do? Nothing but try to make the best of it and just start talking LOUDER like everyone else. The OVERHEAD heaters were way too intense so the Staff was very responsive at our request to turn down the heat. We shared the BBQ Shrimp Starter which was SO good, I highly recommend. I had the Gumbo and Michelle had the beet and goat cheese salad. We both had the Red Fish which comes with smashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes were so BLAND, the broccoli had NO seasoning. The Red Fish wasn't that great of a flavor and not very tender, not easy to cut, had to use my knife at times to get a bite. Kinda disappointed, I lived in N Orleans for a couple of years and it was always so good there. The biggest disappointment was the Gumbo. It had all the right ingredients but the ROUX was to strong, dark and heavy. It actually gave me indigestion afterwards. The service was OUTSTANDING. Our Server was Daylean, she was so nice and helpful with the menu and kept our refills coming.

She was just so very cool. The food was great - I opted for Greek Spaghetti. Different than I've had before but enjoyed it all the same. It was like the flavor was liquid or broth form, pooled at the bottom of the dish. Another version I had was dry, like Pesto. Anyway - when I figured out all the goodness was at the bottom of the plate - it was all over from there. Mixed it up a little. Toss in a little crushed red peppers for taste. Then inhaled it all until it was all gone. The al dente noodles. Charred chicken. All just right. The service for me made it an excellent experience. Food was good and I enjoyed it enough that if I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely stop in - but not before trying other places first. But if I lived in the area, I'd be a regular.
