I went to Ivan's last night to meet some relatives who were in town visiting from California. They are used to eating in some of the better restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area so I didn't want to take them to one of the chain restaurants and we wanted a place where we could have a quiet conversation. Ivan's is one of the few places I have found in the area that meets my criteria. Our meals were excellent, as usual. Service was perfect. I wish I had passed on the dessert, not because it wasn't good, but because I ended up finishing it by myself and realized I had overeaten. This place came highly recommended by several friends and work associates so I don't know if we just had a random bad experience or what happened. We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation, the hostesses were friendly and let us know that there would be about a 30 minute wait for a table which was fine by us. We were directed to a couch where we could sit while we waited. The couch was right next to a table of four diners who looked less than happy that we were so close to them. That's fine, we went online and looked over the menu while we waited and had pretty much decided on what we were going to eat before we got to our table. The hostess came and got us and took us to our table after waiting only about 20 minutes or so. Awesome! Arrived at the table and began looking over the menu, many of the options on the online menu were not on the menu. I had picked out a seared duck breast from the online menu, so I had to rethink my order. I ended up ordering the blackened mahi mahi with a side of scallops, husband ordered the New Yorker ( strip topped with crab), daughter ordered ribs. We also ordered calamari and spicy crab dip as appetizers. Dip was good, calamari was over cooked to the point it was difficult to chew. Apps and drinks arrived quickly and after sitting for a very long time, our server told us there was a miscommunication in the kitchen and our entrees would be out shortly. Another 15+ minutes later our food arrived. My husband's order was incorrect, my mahi mahi was very dry, daughter's ribs were ok. We ate our dinner and pointed out to the server that my husband's food was incorrect. They comped our apps and we paid our bill and left. read more

I have eaten here three (3) times while in the area on business and the food was excellent each time. The outside is nothing specials and the inside is a homey restaurant. Service is very good and prompt. Salads are fresh and I believe the dressings are homemade. Rolls seem like they are frozen baked rolls. Good but nothing special. Having just moved to Salisbury, we rely on reviews of local restaurants and Ivan's had great reviews. Not sure how that is... we arrived before our reservation time, our server was prompt, our wine came out timely, and orders taken. yet, it took 30 minutes to get 1 salad. Another 30 for our entrees to come out and the steaks were raw, the asparagus overcooked, the potatoes so chilly, the butter wouldn't melt! The lobster tail was lukewarm and overcooked. Seriously?! For the prices they charge- it was totally unacceptable! We were disappointed and offered to pay for the wine, ... at least they didn't charge us for anything. If you want a perfect steak, this is THE place to go! The filet mignon is my favorite...it is so tender you hardly need a knife to cut it. The Botta Bing shrimp is excellent and is a really good add on to one of the fantastic steaks. If you want an alcoholic beverage, they have the absolute best martinis around. The lemon drop, Washington state apple, and the Jolly Rancher are all incredible. The prices are higher than your average local "steak house" but after you go to Ivan's one time, you will see why. We went Feb 12 2021. Our first visit but not our last. My husband and I ordered an appetizer first. We had calamari which was ok. Not awful just not great. It was a bit chewy. We both ordered 10oz prime rib, salad, and baked potatoes. The salad was great. Fresh with radishes which you rarely see on salads . The Prime rib was huge and cooked perfectly. Mine was medium and my husbands was med rare. Baked potatoes were big and fluffy. We both needed take home boxes. This place is a bit of a drive for me, but it's my go-to if I'm looking for a good steak, and definitely one of the places I frequent with my wife when we get to go out. The off-the-road exterior definitely disguises the beautiful and warm, cabin-like interior, which immediately makes you feel like you stepped into a classier place. The food is exquisite, and the owner said one of the reasons for the location is it lets him price the food lower than you could find it anywhere else. Still, it is a top-quality steakhouse, so don't expect it to be cheap. Just cheap for the quantity and quality. My wife and I once went and decided to split the prime rib. It's a generous enough portion, and we don't have much budget for food. There was a small $5 upcharge for splitting, BUT, that meant they gave us an additional salad and side, plated both halves, so ultimately instead of splitting one meal, we got two. That is something I would have never imagine, and I am now fully committed to this wonderful restaurant. read more

My wife and I met friends for dinner. We each drove an hour and wow. From walking in and having a drink while waiting for a table it was the best. The restaurant felt comfortable. We started with a onion loaf and ended with four forks and a piece of New York cheesecake. Out of desperation, showed up at their doorstep at 4:45pm (they don't officially open until 5pm); dressed to the 9's to celebrate our 18th wedding anniversary. Got Ssssh'd by the receptionist; but even worse, got cold-shouldered slammed by the manager when we were offered, and accepted, to speak with him. Best he "could do" was a 90-minute wait for a seat at the bar. Seriously???!!! Sorry, Ivan, but we've dined here before and honestly your food, prices, and ATTITUDES aren't really all that. We can on a Wednesday night. It was not crowded. We ordered appetizer of onion loaf. It took a while to come out, but we enjoyed it when it arrived. Our salads came out and they were your typical salad...the star is the homemade dressing! We got sorbet between our salad and main dish to cleanse the palate. It seemed like it too a long time between salad and main dish to the point of being too long! When our main dish arrived I must day I was disappointed. My Husband and I split a filet because we both had gastric surgery...they cut it in the back and it had let all the juice run out and was dry on the cut side...disappointing. My Son's filet was nice and juicy when he cut his. I guess ours sat on the line waiting to be expedited too long. Sad for such a nice cut of meat. The twice baked potato was ok...only the too was actually blended, lots of regular potato compared to the twice baked portion. The service was fantastic. The food was an issue. I ordered the shrimp (grilled) which was overcooked. It did have a really delicious sauce but that did not make up for the shrimp being overdone. I just didn't feel like complaining because I wanted a quiet meal without a lot of fuss. There were 10 large shrimp and when I bit into the 6th shrimp I got a rancid ammonia like taste and odor. I spit it out (quietly) and I was done with the meal. The broccoli was soggy and cold. The salad was a bit on the small side but the honey mustard dressing was rustic and delicious. I felt that the meal was a little over-priced for the quality of the food. This is not worth another visit for me. read more

This hidden jewel has become the Salisbury staple for fine dining and certainly offers an atmosphere like no other. The staff has been together for years and it shows. Everything on the menu is top notch starting with fresh rolls that have the perfect touch of garlic. Then you have to try the crab dip that is better than most coastal restaurants. The salad is always fresh (go with the peppercorn Cesar dressing and thank me later.) After that, and this is always fun to watch with first timers, you get the perfect little amount of lime sherbet to cleanse the pallet before the main event. Now it's go time with the ribeye or filet, depending on my mood. Both are out of this world and always consistently cooked to perfection. The ribeye has more flavor than any steak I've ever eaten. The filet is so tender that you don't need a knife. Also, it has just a slight hint of char on the crust only a professional chef can do. Bonus tidbit: ask for the secret twice baked potato as your side when you sit down. Best I've ever had. I'd be happy if it was the only part of the meal, but that's not how things work at Ivan's. (Again, everything is top notch.) At this point you are gluttonous, but the local made desserts have been eyeing you the whole night while going to other tables. You told yourself no, but everything is so fresh and delectable that you can't resist. After the first bite of any of the selections, you instantly know the right choice was made. Anytime I can go to Ivan's, it's a treat because I know the service will be great (I forgot to mention the great drink selections that always come out fast), and the food will be superb. Huge disappointment! I made a reservation earlier this week with a staff member of this establishment for their private dining room on Saturday, August 11, 2018 for 22 people since the website states that the room can accommodate this amount of people. The staff member was very nice and helpful and confirmed that the room was available that night and took my information for the reservation, so I thought my reservation was set. The owner, Joe, called me back today and told me that the room can only accommodate 12-14 people at best on a Saturday night when this was not mentioned by the staff member nor is this mentioned on their website. The website is misleading and needs to be updated and one designated person who is in charge needs to set the private room reservations. I was trying to ask additional questions while I was on the phone with Joe because I would have been willing to decrease my group and even would have paid for all of their dinners to meet the minimum if that is what we needed to do, but he did not even take the time to hear me out and quickly wished me well without even trying to find a way to work with me. This is not how a potential customer should be treated when trying to give an establishment their business. I have never dealt with such bad customer service prior to even entering a restaurant, so I will never spend a dime at this establishment! read more

Ivan's is a great little steak house, plain and simple. I'm in the neighborhood for work and asked a couple of the girls at the front desk of my hotel where to go for a good steak; preferably not a chain restaurant...they both recommended Ivan's, but thought I might get lost: "It's a bit out in the sticks." They weren't kidding. If you don't have a GPS, plan on spending your evening driving through tree lined lanes and into disappearing bends. One of these turns out to be Old Mocksville Road, where you'll find Ivan's, right out in the sticks, as advertised. My server, Lauren, was cute and friendly...and an extremely good waitress: attentive without being annoying. The menu itself is 100% carnivore...ribs, steak and the like. (Why else would you come here?) Might I recommend a steak? No? Then how about some ribs? No? Maybe perhaps some steak then? Your list of sides is just about as short...though I was impressed with the asparagus. I love asparagus, and theirs was quite tasty. The meat of the matter is of course....well...the meat. It was cooked perfectly. Most importantly, it wasn't buried in spices like they do at most chain restaurants. Kudos. This is a quaint place with excellent service and food. When we pulled in the parking lot, we thought we may be way over dressed in our khaki pants and casual wear. Most patrons were wearing business casual attire, but I have a feeling if you came in a wearing jeans, you would also be very comfortable. The hostess was very welcoming, the service was great, and the food was delicious. We were on a mission to check this place out for an upcoming private party and booked it that night. The minor little things is what brings this down to a 4 star rating. Those things like lighting, house made deserts and price! I thought it was a bit too dark in the place and that the pricing was a bit too high. The selections were decent, the service was great and our server was prompt and friendly. The food was all served together - for a party of 7 that's takes some skill. Parking was not an issue, cleanliness was good - even the bathrooms! Great people, friendly waitstaff, incredible food. Low lighting and the rustic decor makes for an intimate experience. The owner came to check up on us and legitimately seems to care. The salad was fresh and crisp and the parmesan peppercorn ranch was out of this world. The filet I ordered medium (as is the recommendation humorously placed on the menu) which I never do because I don't care for that 'raw beef' taste you sometimes get. I didn't get it. It was a great flavor all the way through and the mushrooms were smokey and rich. For dessert, two words: CHOCOLATE BOMB. One last note, the beer and cheese soup has killed me. Great ribeye and grilled asparagus! My wife had a filet minion that was perfectly cooked and so tender. This was our first visit and we will for sure return when we want to go out for a steak. There's no reason to wait an hour to be seated at a chain steakhouse when your wait will be minimal if any at Ivan's. Neat atmosphere, almost like eating in a hunting cabin. A big dissapointment. When I was in the hospital in Salisbury some of the nursing staff said in passing that "Ivan's is where the doctors go for a good steak." My wife and I did give Ivan's a try. What a big let down. I ordered prime rib on a Friday night-their special. My wife ordered a New York strip. Both where tough and a big, big dissapointment. I always enjoy dinner at Ivan's when I visit Salisbury. I usually order the filet and cold steamed shrimp or the botta bing (sp?) shrimp. My steak has always been prepared as ordered and is wonderful and tender! I'm from Florida and shrimp is one on my favorites. I don't think I have tasted shrimp any better in Florida as I have at Ivan's. Just delicious! The service is always attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and casual yet, nice and romantic. You can dress in jeans or a cocktail dress at Ivan's and be dressed appropriately. read more
