Review for North Italia has absolutely become one of my staples in Charlotte.** It's located in the heart of South End--a trendy, energetic neighborhood with beautiful outdoor dining--and one of the biggest perks here is easy parking, which, as any Charlotte diner knows, is always a win. Inside, the restaurant is gorgeous. Think large, comfortable booths, warm lighting, fresh flowers, and a lively but polished atmosphere. I always make a reservation through OpenTable--I'm too old to be waiting around to eat, and I might as well rack up some points and perks while I'm at it. One of the things I appreciate most about North Italia is their seasonal menu. It keeps the experience fresh and thoughtful, and you can tell the kitchen is paying attention to ingredients and timing. I usually start with a glass of wine-- a sparkling rosé or a crisp Sauvignon Blanc--something cold, clean, and refreshing. Bubbles are always a good option for me. They serve a delicious focaccia at the table, which I sometimes indulge in, but the dish that truly stands out--the one I still dream about--was a seasonal ravioli with butternut squash and crispy sage. It was beautifully balanced, comforting, and memorable in the best way. Other favorites: * The Caesar salad--perfectly dressed * The arancini and calamari--always solid starters * The pizzas, especially the cacio e pepe * And yes, the desserts are absolutely worth saving room for Brunch here is also a lovely experience. Sitting on the patio, eating alfresco on a sunny Sunday, reminds me so much of what I loved about California--being outdoors, enjoying great food, and taking your time. Thankfully, there's plenty of shade, so it's comfortable even on warm days. They do offer a happy hour. It's not the most extensive in town, but it's perfectly fine for drinks, a pizza, or a charcuterie board with friends after work. Terrible service!! I made a reservation for 3 to celebrate my mom's birthday at 6:15 Saturday. Busy but not crowded. Beautiful day so we opted to be seated outside. No server ever greeted us or brought water to the table. We watched the tables around us get cleared and cleaned and the server pick up checks from two other departing parties. I'm patient (used to work in hospitality), but when they brought out a bowl of water for the dog with a couple that was seated after us that was too much!! You served the dog before us?!?!? The ricotta appetizer is pure heaven and the meatballs are almost as good as miy homemade meatballs. Service is clean, polished and friendly. Been there multiple times. All I want is the ricotta and meatballs though. I need to try more of the menu but people I know have loved their entrees. Try it. It's really good. read more

Spicy Rigatoni Vodka (4/5): Unfortunately this came out a little cold. Good flavor with a nice little kick, but it was a little dry (probably because it sat out for too long before being served...). There also wasn't nearly enough sausage. Focaccia (4/5): Decent bread with a very hard, crusty bottom. I liked that it came with olive oil and balsamic. Squid Ink Tonnarelli (3/5): The pasta texture was good and the seafood was fine, but there was waaay too much sauce. Brookie Sundae (5/5): The brookie pieces were fantastic, and there was a great brookie-gelato ratio. The crispy little chocolate balls added a fun textural component. Great hot honey & prosciutto pizza and meatball Ragú, fun vibe and very upbeat and positive wait staff.

Our office has been coming here for lunch for a couple years now. The service is consistently great- especially for our larger groups. However, the food quality has gone down hill. I recently had a long hair at the bottom of my salad I noticed right as I was cutting into it. They brought me a new one but had items I originally asked off of it. The food for our group also has taken longer each time we go to come out. Overall, it's a good spot in area if you need to bring a group, but food quality is just ok. read more

Overall a 10/10! This was the first time I've visited North Italia. We made a same day reservation for 2 for 6PM. The vibes are absolutely perfect for a date night, a great mix of dark but not too dark. The service was FAST. We got all of our food so quickly, and my water was always full. All of the staff was so friendly! Everything was amazing! For drinks we got the ciao Bella and La dolce vita - they were perfectly fruity and yummy. As an appetizer, we got the cacio e pepe arancini balls which were so good! It came with a green, light Greek-yogurt tasting sauce which was also very good. For entrees, we had the spicy rigatoni vodka pasta and the ricotta cavatelli pasta. Both were super delicious and flavorful with a perfect amount of meats. For dessert, we had the brookie sundae. I love the way it came out - it had a DIY element as you can see in the photo. For everything we got, the total came out to around $118, which I don't think is bad at all for 3 courses and drinks. OMG!! We had Mother's Day brunch here this morning. A cold recommendation from Yelp! But I needed something to meet all the picky people in our group of 7. This is THE place!! The food and service was outstanding. The atmosphere was incredible as well! Indoor and outdoor seating. Vet clean and contemporary. We highly recommend everything we ate except the calamari. It was a little over cooked and just "meh" compared to the hot honey and prosciutto pizza, spicy Italian grinder, eggs in purgatory, Strozzapreti and Italian Cobb salad. This is a chain restaurant located in the south Loop area of Charlotte. You could find parking in the street a paid parking lot on ones. The garage is Apparently you can get your parking validated if you park in the garage. This is not advertised on their website. The place was clean. Food was excellent appetizers as a table we ordered the calamari, fritters meatballs, and the truffle bread. The truffle bread was amazing. Everyone loves it at our table. Amazing spot for great Italian food in an upscale ambiance! The service here was incredible and we felt well taken care of the whole night. They also gave us free dessert for a birthday :) Such a wonderful thoughtful touch! I loved the lasagna bianca -- very unique take on lasagna with white sauce and short rib. The crushed meatball ragu was a pretty classic take on spaghetti & meatballs but the meatballs were delicious and the pasta was wonderfully al dente. The tortellini dish was also yummy but didn't stand out too much, and felt a little heavy after one bite (the filling was stuffed with ricotta) so it was a good dish to share. The seasonal butter cake dessert was great! Not normally fan of chocolate+cherry but it worked here, although the cherries were too sweet for me. Labor Day weekend in Charlotte allowed me to visit some of the finest restaurants and cafes in the downtown area. For dinner, we chose North Italia, and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant exuded elegance and simplicity. It was a large space with beautifully designed interiors. We ordered cocktails and wine, all of which were amazing, especially the pomegranate mule. As appetizers, we ordered eggplant parmesan, garlic bread, and shrimp scampi, and everything tasted delicious. Their garlic bread and eggplant parmesan are a must-try! For the main course, we ordered salmon, squid ink pasta, chicken pesto pasta, and pizza. We were all delighted with our meals. The kids' cheese pizza was cheesy, small, and reasonably priced for a kids' menu item. Their sauces were authentic and delicious; they totally reminded me of my time in Italy. The place is a little pricey, but the food and drinks are totally worth it. The service is faster compared to other fine dining restaurants. My go to pizza spot in Charlotte. We ordered the spicy meatball pizza, vodka pasta and squid pasta. All amazing but the vodka pasta never misses. We also got the Arancini app which was so yummy The service is always wonderful and quick. We enjoyed espresso martinis and another drink special both so yummy. Yummm-mah! This place is so dang tasty. We started with the zucca chips. Terrific flavor even if they could use a little more crispness on the fry. Ate them all anyway. Didn't even need the pesto aioli that comes with it. Next, was the white truffle garlic bread. You heard me. That is all. I had the pesto chicken pasta for my entree which is one of the best I've had....and I've been to Italy. The pasta is perfectly cheesy and garlicky, and I love the touch of extra pine nuts on top. A friend had the grilled Branzino which I tasted m, and OMG I WILL be ordering it next time! So fresh, and that lemon caper butter sauce was coming THRU! I was there for a graduation lunch and the server was super friendly and very polite to our guests and family. I had a reservation at another place and 3 days before my daughter's graduation they called and cancelled my reservation. Said they would be overwhelmed. Can not remember the other restaurant name at this time. That's when I called North Itália and without hesitation they said they would accommodate my party. The food was amazing. I had the Lumache Alla Norcina which was also fantastic! I always get the Bombolini for desert. Always a hit! I got the spicy meatball pizza one night over DoorDash and it was great, but then another night I got the Margherita. It had dried Italian seasoning on it (and a lot of it), grated Parmesan cheese, and chunky salt on the crust like you would get on a soft pretzel. I tried North Italia for lunch. The decor for the restaurant is very modern and inviting. Service was impeccable from the start. We were quickly seated and our waitress was attentive and nice throughout our lunch. In terms of food, we tried the following: burrata di stagione (5/5; really delicious. I loved the apple and roasted butternut squash.), prosciutto pizza (4.5/5; very tasty. Prosciutto was salty and paired nicely with the fig), braised short rib lumache (4/5; very tasty and good conceptually. Short rib was tasty but could have been more tender. My biggest issues with this dish were that the sauce was kind of watery and the dish was over salted. Still edible but it took away from the dish, and finally the squid ink tonnarelli (4/5; shrimp and squid were nicely cooked, the sauce was complex but again it was over salted). If they had added 1 tsp less of salt to each pasta dish, this would have become a new go-to Italian spot for me. The drinks were also great (diavolo was delicious and the old fashioned was solid). Overall, I would come back with my fingers crossed that they skip that final pinch of salt! read more

Visited North Italia with my mom this evening, she had recommended and I wasn't disappointed! Even though it was a busy Friday night, we were seated immediately. Beautiful decorated, nice lighting and a mixture of bar, high tables as well as regular tables which added a nice depth to the layout. We were taken care of by Haley who had amazing energy! Friendly, attentive, asked if we had any food allergies and was extremely attentive to what I ordered and what to look out for. Food came out timely, had the black Mediterranean mussels which were delicious, the mussels were fresh, the calabrese had the perfect blend of heat and taste and the, white wine, garlic, butter and herbs were on point! I ordered the roasted salmon for an entree, the outside is caramelizad for an ever so light crick on the outside and tender as you sink your fork in it. The pesto with GF pasta and broccolini was cooked to perfection. I believe we had the hazelnut torta for dessert which is made with almond flour - which was described almost brownie-like (and accurate) and the salted gelato on top was perfection! The salad are awesome. Our pizza was overcooked and burnt cheese so didn't work out too great and it felt very layer of cheese. The tortellini was good and creative but the quantity runs a bit smaller side. The place is quite noisy but I suspect a lot of restaurants on that street are like that. The ambiance is otherwise nice, I wish there a little bit more light. The service is prompt, we asked to be reseated to a booth and they were happy to accommodate. read more

Well, to start the pizza was excellent. We only got the hot honey & smoked prosciutto wood fired pizza and a pitcher of the sangria. If the service was even half as good as the food it would be rated higher. It wasn't busy, once we got sat down outside it took 10 mins for a waiter to arrive just for water. We ordered right away the pizza and pitcher. No waiter in sight for 20 mins until the pizza came out with the pitcher right behind it. Was told the bartender got backed up. I will be back to try more things on the menu since the pizza was excellent but hoping for better service with the menu prices. read more

Tried this wonderful Italian restaurant after a concert over at the AMP Ballantyne. The food was surprisingly authentic. We enjoyed the heirloom tomato and burrata to start and then shared the ricotta cavatelli which was amazing. Tiramisu for dessert with an espresso too. The pasta here is definitely worth returning for. The trottole had plenty of pesto, enough that there was some left at the bottom of the dish after everything else was gone. Using capers to give the dish a bit of acid and salt was a great idea as well. I'll add that it's a bit odd to me to go to an Italian place where bread isn't complimentary. The service was a bit slow for a Sunday afternoon with not many patrons; I spent about 45 minutes total in the restaurant which is about 15 minutes more than usual for a sit-down place in my experience. Also, the QR code to pay your bill may be broken, but the server took note. Ambiance-wise, I'm still not a fan of the exposed ductwork and conduit that many places like this are using. It removes the opportunity for noise dampening, so the dining room is a bit loud. read more

Honestly speaking, I've came to this location before. The first time I came here a couple years ago, I seriously loved the food I got. Even last time I came here a couple months ago it was okay. I came here recently, and I don't want to completely dock them because I think it was maybe just an off day, but we didn't really enjoy the food :( The ambiance of this place is fabulous!! We ordered the pig pizza (I think that was the name) and the prosciutto bruschetta. My cocktail I got tasted nice! But the prosciutto bruschetta was just okay. Maybe it's just because it's different from a standard bruschetta and I just wasn't used to it. However, the pizza wasn't that good. The food took quite some time to bring out, and when the pizza came as soon as we picked up a slice everything fell off of it, and the crust was burnt :( The service was also quite slow. Our waitor took some time to place our order and bring out the drinks and food. I've been here before and have gotten the bread with cheese and it tasted SOOO GOOD. We LOVE north Italia and unfortunately for us, we stopped by on February 14th for an early dinner only to learn there was a special menu. This special menu was VOID of our FAVORITE menu items such as the pizza, and the grilled branzino. Also, the tiramisu, which is also one of our favorites, was NOT the norm. It was like they made or bought a tiramisu sheet cake from the grocery store and added the espresso and chocolate on top. Normally, North Italia makes the best tiramisu in thw city and yesterday was an EPIC FAIL! Additionally, the special menu included a crab and shrimp pasta dish that was so saturated with butter that I had to strain it to eat it.
