The ground chorizo was delicious and added a nice texture to the sauce; the shrimp was noticeably meaty in a good way; and the garlic added a nice, smoky flavor. The sauce itself was a bit acidic but worked well with the other ingredients. My only complaint is that the linguine was a bit overdone. Baked Vodka Rigatoni (4/5): The pasta itself had a nice texture and the sauce was pretty good, but there was WAY too much melted cheese on top. The meatballs were decent but had too much oregano flavor. Bread Service (3/5): A soft and spongey bread with no real crust. A crispy crust would've elevated this a lot. The salt on it was nice. Went here for the first time a few days ago and had a great experience! We were celebrating my partner's birthday and wanted to have a nice, romantic dinner. The vibes of the restaurant are very cozy and classy. It's really everything you could ask for from a local restaurant. Our server, Emily, was amazing! She was kind, informative, and friendly. :) We ordered the bread as an appetizer, it's a homemade focaccia and it had a great flavor! There were pieces of the bread that were dense, but we enjoyed it. (We had already eaten some bread in the photo hahaha) We ordered the rigatoni, which is a classic vodka sauce type of dish. We also ordered the special which was a braised oxtail, half moon shaped pasta. I think our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, so we also ordered the veggies and they were really yummy! We were able to share two plates and the veggies and felt satisfied. My favorite thing about handmade pasta is that you don't feel weighed down by the food. As soon as the door to the entrance is opened, the outside air is sucked into the restaurant and it's been pretty cold in Charlotte, so we were freezing every time hahaha Maybe some heaters or something could help mitigate that, but it's not a big deal. Flour Shop has been on my running list of "why have I not been here yet?" restaurants for far too long, so we finally made it over for dinner. Reservations were easy to grab on OpenTable, which immediately sets a good tone. Parking, however, requires a little strategy. The back lot at Park Road Shopping Center during dinner hours can feel like competitive sport, so build in a buffer and maybe say a small prayer. Before going, I tried to do my usual thing and study the menu ahead of time so I could show up emotionally prepared to order. The menu link on the website didn't work, but honestly... that tracks. Flour Shop runs a rotating menu based on seasonality and what's coming in from their local purveyor partners. I'm not mad about it. If anything, it made me respect them more. Ever-changing menus keep things interesting and stop people like me from ordering the same "safe" dish every visit. This is a great spot for date night or catching up with a friend you haven't seen since you both said, "We should hang out more." The restaurant is built around the kitchen, which is part of the experience. You can watch the team working the crank grill, bread baking in the wood-fired oven, and pasta being rolled right on the counter. If you enjoy kitchen peeping, this place absolutely feeds that habit. Service was strong across the board. Our server knew the menu and beverage offerings well, made thoughtful suggestions, and shared what she personally liked...which I always appreciate more than a rehearsed spiel. Management checked in with our table a few times too, which felt warm and intentional, not performative. We started with the bread service, which is not optional here. Warm, salty, fresh bread that was soft, pillowy, and clearly made with love. The house-churned butter was fabulous. This is the kind of bread that disappears quickly and makes you forget you ordered multiple courses. Zero regrets. Next up was the Sixty South Salmon with yuzu citrus and Calabrian chili aioli. The salmon itself was clean and fresh, but the Calabrian chili didn't really show up the way I hoped. I also expected slightly larger cuts for a crudo. Overall, it was good, just not something I'd personally order again. The potato, Newski ham, mozzarella croquettes with peppercorn aioli were four small, crispy bites that disappeared almost immediately. Crunchy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and very satisfying. If you've had the croquettes at Chapter 6, these live in a similar lane. The peppercorn aioli tied everything together nicely, and yes, I would absolutely order these again. For mains, the table was happy all around. I went with the Mushroom Occhi with beef short rib and toasted ricotta salata. Occhi eats like ravioli, and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. I usually prefer my ravioli a bit softer, but this worked. The savory brown sauce paired beautifully with the short rib, which was tender and rich without being overwhelming. Most of it melted immediately, which is exactly what you want from short rib. My dining partners ordered the spinach tortellini in cacio e pepe with parmesan and pecorino and had no complaints, which is always a green flag. I also had a bit of my dining partner's baked vodka rigatoni with San Marzano tomatoes, meatballs, and local mozzarella from Siano. The sauce leaned thinner than most vodka sauces and came through strong on the vodka, which I didn't mind at all. It was very enjoyable, and you can tell someone in that kitchen really knows how to make sauce. All of the pasta across the table was cooked properly al dente...no mushy noodles in sight. For dessert, we split the house-made tiramisu. One large square easily fed three people, and there was still some left. Thick mascarpone on top, espresso-soaked ladyfingers underneath, and a light dusting of powdered sugar. I would've liked the ladyfingers soaked a bit more, but overall it was a solid dessert. Next time, I'm probably going straight for the chocolate cake. Bottom line...Flour Shop delivers thoughtful food, strong service, and a space that feels warm, busy, and intentional thanks to the open kitchen. A simple thing done so well. For our mains, we split two pastas: the squid ink linguine with shrimp and the orecchiette with sausage. Both were phenomenal. The pasta was clearly house-made and incredibly fresh. The shrimp in the linguine was tender and flavorful, and the orecchiette had just the right balance of richness from the sausage and brightness from the sauce. It was hard to pick a favorite as every bite felt special. We were so full after dinner that we had to skip dessert, but I've already got my eye on the bread pudding and tiramisu for our next visit. Flour Shop is a must-visit for any pasta or wine lover in Charlotte. It's warm, welcoming, and full of comfort. Yes this is a pasta place, but don't sleep on the other entrees! My partner loves pasta, and I wanted to treat him to a nice dinner. However, I try (emphasis on try) to stay more low carb when I can, so I wasn't sure what exactly I would find to eat at place that has "flour" in the name. Never mind that. I found some great protein-forward options. Started with the hamachi, which was so refreshing. Then went with the pork chop for my main, which had a great smoky flavor and came with a lovely Romesco sauce. We really enjoyed our meal here along with the good service and cool ambiance. The decor in the restaurant is so cute! Love the vibe. Very bright and sunny! We were seated at the time of our reservation. Staff was kind and helpful with any questions! All of the food came out STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL, as seen below. Shockingly, the pasta was by far our least favorite component of the evening. The pasta had a strong bite to it, so much so that it makes me think the pasta were store bought and not homemade like expected. It was definitely undercooked and came out closer to warm temp than bubbling hot. The flavor was good but it only came with 3 small meatballs which was a bit disappointing (especially splitting the meal). HOWEVER the Cesar was PHENOMENAL and I will be back on the regular to get it to go, along with the horseradish potatoes. I'm droooooling just thinking about it. For me, the bread service was meh, but I'm not much of a bread person. Everyone else I was with was obsessed with it, but for me, just bread with butter that made me want some flaky salt. This is not somewhere I'd go all the time. FlourShop is back to being great again! (I think it went downhill for a couple of years and we stopped going for a bit.) We recently tried it again and have been going back every couple of weeks ever since! The vodka rigatoni with meatballs is amazing! I also love the "cacio e pepe" tortellini and the bolognese with whipped ricotta. The balanzoni is rich, but delicious (best to share as an app). And the carpaccio and crudo are consistently fresh delicate and delicious!! Don't snooze on the seasonal cocktails and desserts either! I took my 90 year old mom to Flour Shop for a Christmas present along with my brother. She was wanting to go because her friends love the place. We were excited about the locally sourced fresh pasta and bread. While the service was wonderful, the kitchen missed on several things. The bread, which was $8 came out hard and stale. My tortellini with cacio de Pepe was cold and in a heavy cream sauce which isn't a true Cacio de Pepe . My mom's pasta was over sauced and my brother's duck was tough. For the money it was incredibly disappointing. For a restaurant that does pasta I would expect warm dishes and fresh bread. My 4 stars instead of 5 stars on Yelp was due to the annoying somewhat large party that was sat behind us with kids, not necessarily the restaurant's fault but I would have loved to have been seated on the other quieter side of the restaurant. A good friend of mine has long hailed Flourshop as his favorite restaurant in Charlotte. With that kind of endorsement I knew it was time I paid a visit. I came in for a Friday night dinner with my girlfriend and we were both blown away. The restaurant is centered around their pasta making which quite literally takes place in the middle of the restaurant. There are plenty of bar seats where you can observe as they create their fresh house made pasta. This area was full so we were seated at a table, but will try to grab a seat there upon our next visit. My girlfriend ordered the bolognese with pappardelle pasta and whipped ricotta, while I landed on the orrechiette with pistachio pesto and shrimp. Both were phenomenal! I can see why by my friend speaks so highly of this place. The ambience and the food are top tier. While they are known for their pasta they have several other dishes like steak, salmon, and duck breast. The menu is small but carefully thought out. Some people on here said they dont know what the good reviews were about and if I hadn't had this Jekyll and Hyde experience I wouldn't have understood what they meant We had a completely different experience our second time here. We arrived at 5 and it was empty as to be expected. You know how normally waiters tell you if they are out of something when they give you the menu? Well ours took forever to take our order and didn't inform us of missing menu items until as we ordered. It was like a joke, oh you want that, no you can't have that we ran out yesterday. As for what we did order it was mostly horrible. The food took forever and yet the place was empty. The pappardelle as someone else noted not only had no sauce but the meat had no flavor. I understand the amount of sauce desired can be subjective but I mean literally none. The triangolo pasta hadn't cooked long enough and so the edges were hard from uncooked dough. The 2 steaks that were ordered has wayyyy to much fat. By the time our guests got done cutting around the fat there was half a steak left. On one order the fries had no salt, but on the other they had way too much salt on the fries. We all tried them and all agreed. It was very strange like as if the chef forgot to toss them in a bowl. If they were your fries you would want to wipe each one on a napkin. One steak entree was sent back for being rare instead of medium. When it finally came back it had a weird smell, zero seasoning, and tons of fat again, and was inedible. That cost $42 and my friend literally bought a hamburger elsewhere afterwards. What a horrendous experience and a bill that was over $300 only to leave hungry. To boot it was cold in there and half of the 6 of us kept out jackets on. Lastly nothing was offered for the guest who had to eat his steak alone. Not oh you can keep that plate and eat your fries at least. Would u like a free salad or dessert. We had reservations for a Saturday evening and sat on the back patio. The ambiance was nice and I appreciated that they had screens up to shield the parking lot view. Inside was extremely loud and hard to hear, so not the best set up for quiet conversation. The food was ok- we had the pesto shrimp pasta and steak medallions. Not to mention they were within walking distance of Jeni's ice cream so I couldn't say no. Seeing they accepted reservations I made sure to place one, party for 1 here I come. When I walked in I was sat immediately at the bar (my preference when dining solo) and ordered the ricotta gnocchi because I'm a sucker for gnocchi. It came with 6 very large pieces of pasta and surprisingly 5 large pork meatballs. The pasta was yummy, the sauce was yummy, just wish (my Personal preference) that the meatballs didn't have fennel. Not my favorite ingredient and it's an overpowering flavor. My husband and I finally tried Flour Shop for dinner one Saturday in February. Their menu changes daily, so be forewarned that you may not be able to get our items during your visit. We both started with glasses of their tannat red wine. It satisfied both of our tastes (his: dry, mine: bold), so we were pleased. For our appetizers, I had the burrata, and my husband had the butter lettuce salad. We both preferred each others' dishes, however. The burrata had more of a ricotta consistency, and the butternut squash added a sweetness I didn't fully enjoy. My husband loved it, though. The dressing on the butter lettuce salad was divine, and the pistachios added an excellent flavor, so that was a clear winner for me. For our entrees, my husband had the rigatoni bolognese, and I had the scallops with almond romesco and cauliflower purée. The rigatoni was a huge serving. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, and the bolognese sauce was very flavorful. I received four scallops in my dish that were oddly sized - one was very large, and the other three were much smaller. While I wish they were more uniform, they were cooked well, and I loved the cauliflower purée. The romesco was slightly cold, so it kind of cooled the whole dish. The crunch of the almond added a nice texture to the dish, and it was a great low-carb option. We both cleared our plates. Our server was friendly, helpful, and unobtrusive. When we asked for a table instead we were told they were all reserved. We tried to resolve this with the hostess and were only told to sit at the bar. The service after that was completely mediocre for pasta that costs $30 per entree. My alcoholic beverage was watery and mostly ice. Additionally we were the only people of color in the entire restaurant. Could it coincide we were treated so poorly and all the white people were seated at tables and not the bar? Flour shop is such an unassuming gem behind the park rd shopping center. But walking in you have a cozy little pasta shop. I've been here a couple times and the service as well as food have been on point every time. The menu is constantly rotating and changing as items come into season so it's a little bit of a surprise every time. My favorite has been most variations of the duck breast. Their main items are the pastas handmade in front of you. If nothing else it's fun to see the kitchen at work with the open concept. I'll be back for more meals here for sure. read more
