Steak Frites
Khadiga B.

Came in for dinner service impromptu and got seated at the bar, it's a great vibe. Our cocktails came quickly and our bartender/waiter was amazing with recommendations/overall service. Ordered the crab cakes and corn for starters, and the steak frites + chicken for our entrees. Food was well seasoned, we finished with the apple crumble dessert which was good but would be better with more of a pie texture. Overall great experience and will be back!

Pain Killer cocktail

I had a nice time here with my group of 5. It's known for its cocktails so I had to get one. I ordered the Dusty Cactus and it was good. Two of my group ordered the Pain Killer, one regular and one as a mocktail. The waitress brought them out and my friend tried hers (that was supposed to be the mocktail) before the waitress realized that she didn't know which was which. She debated about the color and then my other friend tried hers but it wasn't obvious to anyone, Thewaitress went back and asked the bartender - and then she went back and had them remade. ...and it turned out she'd switched them up. She was apologetic. Not a problem because my friend wasn't in recovery but it could've been a problem if someone was actually an alcoholic. It didn't affect our night but I wanted to mention it. ...Side note: I love how the library wall of spirits looks! ...I really enjoyed my wedge salad and my Wagyu flat iron steak. Kudos for the open kitchen and open flame cooking! Open kitchens always make me feel like the restaurant is cleaner because nothing is happening behind closed doors. I gave the dinner 4 stars because of the drink mixup and because it's pretty expensive but overall I give it a thumbs up.

First off, luv the decor and ambiance! Anywhere that has a liquor library w/a ladder is someplace I know instantly I'm gonna luv! Secondly, the service was beyond superb from the Resy app to the hostess (we were seated on the patio initially and it was a gorgeous evening to do so as we arrived a bit early for our res and were seated 30mins before our original res time) to the staff! I really loved how seamless our 3 waitstaff took care of us! All were extremely attentive, engaging, and even replaced the only cocktail we were not a fan of! We only came in for cocktails and beignets, but after seeing the open-concept kitchen and smelling/seeing what was being made, dinner will def be on the menu next time! Absolutely loved the menu concept of putting the name and place the cocktail came from! Ingenious and extremely helpful in regards to decision-making. Pairing the incredibly made Sazerac w/the beignets (the coffee-flavored sauce that came under the beignets was so complementary to the Sazerac and didn't overpower the beignets themselves) was exquisite! All in all an absolutely fantastic experience and can't wait for the encore!

The service and ambiance is great! The food selections are diverse and there's something for everyone. Definitely try something off the cocktail menu too. And don't forget the beignets!

Such a gorgeous and rustic restaurant. The menu was amazing... too hard to choose! Service was stellar We did brunch this time, and every single item we ordered was GREAT. I will say that I would have preferred a different type of bread for the spicy chicken sandwich. But otherwise- amazing spot

Tomahawk Steak

We were celebrating my husband's birthday so we had to go big with the Tomahawk. It comes with multiple sides and sauces. We ordered the sides that our server recommended and we really appreciated the veggies to balance out the meat and potatoes. We also got the egg rolls, tuna tartare to start with. I do not regret getting them but we only had so much stomach space. Drinks were great! I wish I had space to try more. We then finished our meal with an order of fresh beignets. Needless to say, we were not able to finish the steak and sides. They made great leftovers the next day! I also asked them to wrap up the bone to take home to my dog. I further roasted the bone at home and let her enjoy it. She LOVED it.

This spot has been on our list for quite some time and today we finally made it! Even though stacked with reservations the waitstaff nicely fit us in at a nice outdoor table. The waitstaff were all very friendly and helpful! GET the Beignets! They are light fluffy and delish! We ate a few before dinner and finished them off as dessert after! The hubby ordered a burger and it was ok slightly undercooked from his request of medium to medium rare but overall not bad! The truffle aioli is yummy with their fries! I had the brisket breakfast and it was pretty good too! My eggs were overcooked but the brisket was tender and I really enjoyed the slightly sweet slightly tangy BBQ sauce! I didn't eat much of the Texas toast it topped but I could see someone with a larger appetite enjoying all that bread. lol I had the Bees Nest cocktail - light crisp and refreshing! I would like to try their dinner menu next time!

Wagyu Flat Iron, Sunny-side Up Egg and Frites. Hanger Steak with Sunny-side Up Egg and Frites
Kevin C.

Brunch at The Crunkleton absolutely delivered. Perfectly cooked steak with a beautiful medium-rare center, paired with crispy, seasoned fries topped with a generous dusting of parmesan. The sunny-side-up eggs added a rich, buttery finish, and the house sauce tied everything together with just the right touch of tang. Every bite balanced comfort and sophistication -- hearty, flavorful, and expertly prepared. A standout dish that hits all the marks for a memorable brunch experience.

Beignets
Ingrid J.

I finally made it for brunch, and let me tell you this place did not disappoint. We were seated quickly (huge win for a weekend brunch spot), and every single staff interaction was kind and welcoming without being over the top. But let's talk about the real star of the show: the beignets. Oh. My. Goodness. Hands down the best thing I've ever had in Charlotte. I'm not exaggerating. Pillowy soft, perfectly warm, dusted with just the right amount of sugar... and then you dip them in that coffee cream sugar sauce? Unreal. The sauce is rich, sweet, and slightly coffee-kissed--like the perfect brunch dessert dream. These little clouds of happiness had me questioning every other dessert I've ever hyped up. If I could, I'd order them by the dozen and call it a self care plan. The rest of the meal was solid, but honestly I'm still dreaming about those beignets. If you go and don't order them, you're doing Charlotte brunch wrong. Crunkleton, you've officially set the bar high. I'll be back mostly for those beignets, but also because everything else about the experience felt easy, warm, and worth it.

I had a birthday brunch here recently. Although, it doesn't seem like the staff knew it was my birthday brunch. Other than that, the food and drinks awesome. I always have a great time here. The service, atmosphere and food is always consistent. I got the banana French toast, a Hemingway Daiquiri and a Bellini. Definitely a fave Charlotte repeat spot

Denver Steak
Ian N.

Steak Frites (4/5): Tender and juicy steak, but I didn't like the chimichurri sauce at all. Fries were good but could've used more parm and garlic. The aoili dipping sauce was pretty mild. Denver Steak (4/5): Somehow juicy but also very tough. My jaw started hurting from having to chew so much. Broccolini (4/5): Cooked just the right amount and the sweet and salty glaze was great. Duck Flautas (4/5): Pretty basic. Essentially just shredded duck in a crispy corn tortilla. Crab Cakes (4/5): Substantial in size but only because there's SO much filler. I liked how the exterior was just a little crispy. Wasn't a huge fan of the citrus yuzu flavor. 7th Street Corn (2/5): Not for me. It wasn't very sweet and was way too tangy. Beignets (4/5): Flaky and soft in the middle. The cold brew icing was more like soup at the bottom of the bowl, but still dippable. Pecan Pie (4/5): Great flavors, but the pie was very soft and crumbly (I prefer a dense pie). RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

Tomahawk
Erik W.

Final Score: 8.5 Ambiance is great-- there for Tomahawk Tuesday. Great Food, Large & Creative Drink Selection, and Perfect Date Spot. Worst case, if you don't enjoy each others company, you will enjoy the food. Tomahawk- 9/10. Great Flavor; crispy and medium rare in all the right places. Max N-Cheese-9/10- check out the picture. The shells are giving me Yafo, just think, "elevated southern food," with just the right amount of Parmesan, cheddar, and American cheese. Get the $20 side vs. the $10, you're welcome. Asparagus- 7/10- butter complements the steak. Would just order the butter. Potatoes- 6/10. Great flavor, just wouldn't get again. Mexican Street Corn- 8/10. Not Pictured: 9/10 Beignets-- Sauce makes it.'

Ask the Community - The Crunkleton

My husband and I would be coming from out of town-- Could we be bring our two year old during lunch or brunch hours? Is there required dress attire?

Kids are allowed and there is no required attire

Do you have any gluten free options? Is anything celiac safe?

Yes, tons of options! The restaurant is well-versed with allergens and understands Celiac precautions. Most of the menu can be modified and if it can't be done safely, they know and will communicate it!

Hello, we are coming in to town from Chapel Hill tomorrow night for a concert. If we are at the door at 5 what are the chances we could get a seat at the bar? Also, does the bar have food service?…

Hi there! At 5 it should be okay to get a seat at the bar. It is a lively bar but the service is helpful and bar is first come first serve. I do believe they do bar food service but I have not done it.

If I tried to go at opening without a reservation any chance of a party of 2 actually getting seated (without waiting an hr..etc)?

Yes, early maybe for a table depending on the day. Your best bet is sitting at the bar (which is cooler anyway.)

I came yesterday for my birthday and purchased a membership. Whenever I come back how will I confirm my membership for entry?

Hey! when you go back for your next visit, the hostess will ask for your phone number and that's how they can confirm your membership.

Is it family or kid friendly?

Absolutely! We don't have highchairs/boosters available so please plan accordingly.

Do they do anything special for birthdays?

Hi Lauren, we are happy to provide a complimentary dessert when dining with us for birthdays and any special occaison! Thanks!

What is the "membership fee for? Outside the obvious membership. Why & what's the advantage? Do you have to be a member to get in, Thanks in advance

Yes, you must be a member, but each member is allowed up to 4 (I think) guests. The membership is required under NC ABC laws based on the type of establishment. It's only $10 and is good for a year.

How many people can fit around the tables with the curved booths?

Six or seven.

As a first timer do I have to pay the$10 membership fee?

When I went with a group of friends, only 2 of us had to be members. But once you pay the membership fee once, it lasts a year I believe.

Is it baby friendly?

Hi Edwin! We love babies and they are of course allowed! We are absolutely a family restaurant and encourage children diners!… Read more

Now while she was vaguely aware of their "spirited kingdom" menu, I had NO CLUE. It was the best surprise! They have such a cool menu with a full theme park map containing 4 lands with 4 cocktails each. The cocktails all match the type of ride they are, it's honestly such a cool idea, and it was so well done. I loved the art. I will say, I was skeptical that all of their drinks would actually work and worried that they'd be too caught up in the theme to make results but . . . Oh my goodness I was so impressed by the drinks here. I think a lot of bars these days can get so caught up in trying to be unique that their drinks become nearly undrinkable. This place definitely doesn't suffer there. They brought us an aperitif when we came in, but unfortunately I have a blueberry allergy so we skipped that. We had 4 drinks between the 2 of us and they were all awesome. I ordered the star breaker and the green dragon (what can I say, I love gin and a good coaster), and they were both balanced and tasty. My friend got the diablo and the neon shift, and they were both fantastic as well! The neon shift was served with a black light too which was super cute. The one drink I have to call out specifically is the green dragon. There was something about this drink that was so unique, I have genuinely never had anything like it but I would order it a thousand times over. It's so good. It keeps me up at night. It haunts my every bar order. I will be writing home about it. What else can I say about this place - the service was great, the atmosphere was fun, and the DJ was amazing. I thought "wow this guy really likes sax covers" only to look over and see him PLAYING HIS SAXOPHONE LIVE?? Iconic. This place was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about it. The spirited kingdom menu will only be around for 6 months according to the waitress, so definitely catch it while it's there! If I'd heard about it sooner, I would've maybe descended upon them with 200+ theme park engineers in town for the conference (maybe it's a good thing I didn't know they were there until after it was over), but instead I will just say DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND MAKE YOUR RESERVATION NOW

Pretty overwhelming, especially with the bartenders explaining the menu to us twice with the same spiel there is too much to look at it makes it difficult to pay attention to the drinks. I really did not love my drink (starbreaker?) you could only taste the lychee The bartenders not a vibe, it was not that comfortable to sit at the bar. There's outdoor seating, and initially we wanted to sit outside but we didn't have reservations. Luckily, they seated us at a small corner section near the back of the bar. It's very cozy and intimate inside. Just my type of vibe. The service was top tier. They were unable to validate our parking because of some sort of discrepancy with the signage outside and lack of having the proper equipment for validation. To make up for it, they offered us complimentary champagne to start. We were not expecting that, and pleasantly surprised! Their menu has an eclectic selection of cocktails, both full and mini. We opted to order from the mini cocktail menu, and we each ordered two drinks. I had the Creepy cucumber cocktail and it was refreshingly sweet and probably my favorite drink of the night. I also ordered the Don't Shy Away which was a sour and spicy rum concoction with carrot in it. It was definitely spicy and had a puréed texture. I really enjoyed it. And, then don't get me started on the music!!! The dj was masterful. He played all the types of music I love and he mixed them in such a refreshing way. I ended up asking him for his contact information before leaving, and whether he does weddings because my fiancé and I are currently looking for a DJ. He was just that good. This would definitely be my spot if I lived here in Charlotte. It was the perfect way for us to end the night.

It's a small intimate setting and I do love the dark aesthetic they did. Gives it a swanky vibe and makes a great date spot. But they were burning incense in the tiny space and it was overwhelming. The other bar guests sitting next to us agreed. *They did finally pick up on it and the staff moved it toward the kitchen door* Staff was friendly as well, though, it was busy and looked as if they had a trainee in tow, so attention was lacking just a bit. So why we came: The drinks were average to me. One was weird (Pineapple Fried Rice) and I just couldn't get it sit well on my palate - and I tried - sip after sip. But the mixologist saw my struggle and swapped it out for a different one. I did like the Don't Shy Away - it was an interesting take on a margarita with a strong carrot base. The Whispering Dove was a take on a Paloma and I couldn't find the lemongrass infusion on my palate. So I found it pretty basic, but pricey. So overall, decent. And I might stop buy if I was stuck in the area again.
