The menu this time is theme park theme... again, a fun concept but not well executed. Pretty overwhelming, especially with the bartenders explaining the menu to us twice with the same spiel there is too much to look at it makes it difficult to pay attention to the drinks. I really did not love my drink (starbreaker?) you could only taste the lychee The bartenders not a vibe, it was not that comfortable to sit at the bar. They now serve food, hotdogs... which do NOT match the vibe at all, so that was interesting that their only food (other than the free popcorn) is not hot dogs.. read more

This place blue my mind. I was visiting my best friend while in town for a conference on amusement ride standards. We had a reservation for Blue Door for Saturday night, and it was amazing. Now while she was vaguely aware of their "spirited kingdom" menu, I had NO CLUE. It was the best surprise! They have such a cool menu with a full theme park map containing 4 lands with 4 cocktails each. The cocktails all match the type of ride they are, it's honestly such a cool idea, and it was so well done. I loved the art. I will say, I was skeptical that all of their drinks would actually work and worried that they'd be too caught up in the theme to make results but . . . Oh my goodness I was so impressed by the drinks here. I think a lot of bars these days can get so caught up in trying to be unique that their drinks become nearly undrinkable. This place definitely doesn't suffer there. They brought us an aperitif when we came in, but unfortunately I have a blueberry allergy so we skipped that. We had 4 drinks between the 2 of us and they were all awesome. I ordered the star breaker and the green dragon (what can I say, I love gin and a good coaster), and they were both balanced and tasty. My friend got the diablo and the neon shift, and they were both fantastic as well! The neon shift was served with a black light too which was super cute. The one drink I have to call out specifically is the green dragon. There was something about this drink that was so unique, I have genuinely never had anything like it but I would order it a thousand times over. It's so good. It keeps me up at night. It haunts my every bar order. I will be writing home about it. What else can I say about this place - the service was great, the atmosphere was fun, and the DJ was amazing. I thought "wow this guy really likes sax covers" only to look over and see him PLAYING HIS SAXOPHONE LIVE?? Iconic. This place was perfect and I wouldn't change a thing about it. The spirited kingdom menu will only be around for 6 months according to the waitress, so definitely catch it while it's there! If I'd heard about it sooner, I would've maybe descended upon them with 200+ theme park engineers in town for the conference (maybe it's a good thing I didn't know they were there until after it was over), but instead I will just say DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND MAKE YOUR RESERVATION NOW read more

Hands down, my favorite bar in Charlotte. Chase is the best bartender - he always takes time to get to know you and make sure you're getting a drink you like. The vibes in this place are great. If they have a DJ or live music, it makes for an impeccable evening without being too loud or turning into a club. You can always find a drink you like on the menu (or order a classic) but I recommend trying something a little out there. Totally unique cocktails, great service, and a beautiful bar make this place a winner. read more

Loved this spot! With its proximity to other, rowdier bars, this was a welcome step away from the commotion. It felt elevated, though somewhat cold and dark, like a little cave getaway from South End. The menu is cool and I genuinely wanted to read through it. We had a few hiccups in which pages were missing, out of order or stapled poorly. But finally found good ones! Each drink is a city, and they give little blurbs about the cocktail and the city. Felt old, classic and cute. We chose 2 drinks and munched on popcorn (complimentary) and really enjoyed! I assume you could also order something you like that's not on the menu. Our cocktails were impeccable. Absolutely loved. It's definitely pricey, though we went on a Wednesday, and all cocktails were $10. Pro tip! We also were able to find parking - as it was just for a drink and a walk around - but beware as you may have to pay and it unfortunately feels a little far from the light rail (don't drink and drive!!). They immediately asked what we were celebrating and if we had a reservation when we arrived - felt a little weird - though it was not an issue that we had not made a resy. On higher traffic nights I'd definitely take a look at making one! Would definitely be back, though probably again on a Wednesday or for a celebration - $18 per drink is a commitment. read more

LOVED this place. Every cocktail I tried was phenomenal. I came for the Christmas popup (different menu during the holidays) and our drinks were fantastic. I didn't even know what half the ingredients were, but they were great. Mine was similar to a whiskey sour, and my friends had the espresso martini, a tequila and cashew milk drink (delicious) and some other fun, fruitier drinks. The drinks are a little pricier, but rest assured they are well made. We were seated at a standing room only spot by the bar, and it was great. The space was intimate and well decorated. I can't wait to come back and try out the typical menu. read more

Ok, I am going to honest. We came here for one of there holiday themes and the theming was kind of weak. The bar itself is small and already nice so maybe theming isn't really their thing. I love themes but if you aren't going to go all out, just don't do it. Anyhow, the bar is cute and has more of an upscale feel and I really enjoyed it. It's the Perfect intimate hidden upscale lounge that's elevating the south end area ! I stopped by for a cocktail our drinks were good I'm not for sure if they serve food but it's the perfect spot for drinks ! Blue Door is a classy and elegant cocktail bar that is both small and intimate. Emphasis on the small, there is limited seating so they highly recommend making reservations for you and your group. I've been wanting to come in and see the place for myself, and I had the opportunity when me and three others made a Sunday afternoon reservation around the holiday season. Like many other cocktail bars in the area they were decorated for the holidays, and the theme spread to their drinks as well. They didn't go all out like some of the other places we went and kind of reined it in with the decor, but it still looked nice. The most interesting part of the experience was their cocktail menu which came in the form of a graphic storybook. Each page contained a part of the story and the corresponding cocktail that went along with it. You have to admire their creativity, and their dedication to making cocktails that provide an experience. Like most cocktail bars the drinks can get pricy but we all enjoyed our drinks and had a great time. The only downside was that because the space is small it felt a little cramped inside, like we were right on top of the table next to us. Still awesome and would definitely recommend checking out for your next get together or date night! read more

VERY classy, cozy, and upscale bar in CLT. Even the bathroom is a page right out of a magazine. Reservations required and we got the last available option a week in advance on a Wednesday night at 9:30 PM, so plan ahead! Extremely unique cocktail menu. This is their current concept and I believe they change it up. I've never seen anything quite like it and it's amazing! Each cocktail is hand crafted to honor and tell a story about a major US city with high quality, flavorful, and specialty ingredients. Our bartender, Jordan, was wonderful! There is no bar that brings me the happiness that Blue Door does. The intimacy in South End is rare in itself, but the cherry on top is the staff interaction. From the host to management, every single person on this staff is amazing and provides the family establishment feel within a high end establishment. The decor, layout and flow of the bar will teleport you from its busy Charlotte location. I haven't had a drink I didn't love, but they have a "no sweat it" return policy if you don't like something. That's pretty amazing. I highly recommend the Charleston or let the staff surprise you with a craving of your own. Biggest takeaway - ask for Cam. Whether it's a hello with some good banter, full blown service experience, or the pleasure of having a Cam-special made cocktail... you won't regret it. read more

Be prepared to try some well made and intricate drinks! When I initially walked into Blue Door, I was surprised by how much of a speakeasy vibe it had. I liked that vibe and my initially expected 2 drinks quickly turned into 4 because of how well made they were! The menu alone is impressive and apparently it changes every now and then as well, which is a fun way to spend an evening discovering the new drinks they have concocted! The place was very cute and festive for Christmas! However, the service was very slow and the drinks were very overpriced. They kick you out after 90 minutes and it takes about 20 minutes to get a drink. Nice to experience, but probably won't be coming back. read more

We took a trip to the magical Blue Door to celebrate my husband's birthday. What a gem. When we walked it - it reminded us of the private speakeasies of the 50s. From the security to the young women at the door it was already a step above. One woman checked out names in - and the other young woman hung our coats. We were then led through the magic blue door to the bar. It was my husband's birthday and they handed him a card and we were greeted with two glasses of crisp champagne. After a quick trip to the spotless and very cool restrooms we were given a tour of the menu by Michael. We love bespoke cocktails but the menu was literally a trip to some iconic cities around the US. I ordered the Denver, Co and my husband ordered New Orleans - both were delicious! We loved how the menu told a story - and we enjoyed paying through remembering trips we took to cities across the country. The service was amazing with all the bartenders being attentive. Each making us a round of drinks. We ended our night with an Italian liqueur which was a nice way to cap the evening off. Today I received an email to thank us for our patronage. The small touches really impressed us. This beautiful little bar shows care and attention is given to the details and hospitality is provided to the highest standards. We want to thank Michael and the entire staff for giving us a really special experience to celebrate my husband's birthday! We cannot wait to visit you all again! read more
