300 East is one of my absolute favorite Charlotte staples! I love bringing out-of-town family and friends here, as well as introducing locals who haven't discovered it yet. Set in a charming old home, the aesthetic is incredibly welcoming with a quaint downstairs bar, a gorgeous outdoor patio, and cozy seating upstairs--there truly isn't a bad seat in the house. The staff and service are always exceptional, which only adds to the amazing experience. They offer daily specials alongside a rotating and standing menu, making every visit unique. There are so many standout dishes that it can be hard to choose, but my ultimate go-to is the seared ahi tuna salad. I don't know how they make that sesame and shoyu dressing, but it is one of a kind! I also highly recommend the hummus, the baked marinated Vermont goat cheese, "The Usual," and any of their steak options. Definitely don't skip dessert! On my last trip, I tried the strawberry shortcake, and it was divine. The goat cheese and cherry cheesecake and the rotating sorbets are also phenomenal. If you're grabbing a drink at the bar, be sure to check out their signature Matilda Wong, though they also make a stellar dirty martini!
We enjoyed my husbands birthday here last weekend! We had espresso martinis and the brunch one to go with our Egg Benedict's. My husband and I didn't really like the brunch ones, felt like an unbalanced cocktail but the espresso was delicious. Would love if they offered lattes, they are halfway there! Anywho we would definitely go back super tasty breakfast.
I have hear alot about this place. I came here with a few coworkers. I was told about the Matilda drink. The host was very accommodating with recommending we eat inside instead of outside. We had a few dishes: salmon, crabcakes6, chicken, flounder. Each of the dishes were very good and well seasoned. The ambience is one of an American dining. The establishment offered seating on the first floor, second floor and outside. The waitress, Laura B was amazing. She did an amazing job waiting on my party of 7. She had an upbeat personality that stayed the same the entire experience. This establishment is definitely a location to check out if in the Charlotte area.

Our server (I believe his name was Nate--red hair, super friendly!) He was very attentive and welcoming. As for the food, it just didn't quite hit the mark for us. The dishes could've used a bit more seasoning and flavor. Because of that, I'm not sure if it would be a go-to spot for me personally--but I always say everyone has different taste, so you may have a totally different experience
Started our vacation with a visit to 300 East, which we had seen featured in a past episode of Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. It was a really nice meal and evening, and we look forward to returning again. What we loved: * quaint location in a pretty neighborhood location. * easy free parking * cool homey vibe in a converted house * creative cocktails * exceptional hummus with pickled vegetables to start. * generous portions made with fresh ingredients * best in class French onion soup What didn't go as well * we were seated at an out of the way table on the second floor. It was both a little loud from the way noise rose, and we felt a bit forgotten with service that was a bit slow at multiple points. All in all, it feels a bit like going to a great meal at the house of a friend who can really cook. Would probably make a regular place to eat if we lived closer, but probably not exceptional enough to plan to regularly return as a special destination.

They still were able to seat us when we arrived and we enjoyed a space upstairs by the windows. Our server was very attentive. We enjoyed the seasonal sweet roll (dark chocolate and vanilla) and I enjoyed an apple cider mimosa along with my breakfast tacos. The tacos didn't skimp on the eggs or chorizo, which I appreciate. My friend enjoyed the French toast special.
Great brunch experience today! We shared a cast iron sweet roll with mascarpone and blueberry glaze. Delicious. And my Grits Bowl did not disappoint. Cute and spacious front patio. And plenty of indoor seating in the cute old house.
Wow, hardly never do I say 6 stars but our Sunday Brunch experience was exactly that. We both got the breakfast burger special. It came with grit fries. I substituted the sausage burger for a veggie burger and that was perfect. The server was realized and helpful. Service was fast which was great because we were hungry. We would definitely return. They have a variety of seating options and we even saw small dogs on the patio. This is a family-friend restaurant.
Just skip it. The food has no taste. The asparagus was blanched and no seasoning. The crab cake only tasted fried nothing else. The mashed potatoes were ok, cuz I added salt. The drinks weren't even good. First time and last time. I wasn't even impressed with the ambience. This looking like your grandma house didn't save it.
My friend lives in the South End and recommended this spot for brunch. I ended up ordering the breakfast tacos with fruit on the side and a mimosa. When we arrived, there was a 30-minute wait for indoor seating since we didn't have a reservation, but we were able to get an outdoor table right away. The tacos were tasty, and the service was solid. Overall, it's a cute place to catch up over breakfast or brunch.
Service is awesome but when they take my favorites off the menu. Well you get 3 stars. I miss the roasted potato pizza, cajon penne pasta, stuffed ck breast with goat chz and cranberry sauce, and now the apple chutney chicken sandwhich. At least they still have the matilda wong

300 East is this American restaurant in this quaint and old house. There is parking in the back and there are two levels inside along with an outdoor space for seating. It can feel tight in there, but it does give very much cozy and autumnal vibes. As for the service, our waiter was very friendly and attentive! I got the Breakfast Pizza and the Matilda Wong. So the Matilda Wong is a popular cocktail at the restaurant, in part because it comes in a pitcher, which is not huge but the drink can definitely shared by two people. It tasted really good honestly, with various fruity hints. I felt a slight buzz after sipping on it for a bit. The Breakfast Pizza was super good! I ate the entire piece on my own, but I probably could have split it with my friend. The fried egg, chorizo, and the queso fresco were amazing toppings on the pizza. I wanted to try the famous Baked French Onion Soup, but it was not available for brunch. This is a really good place for American food that has a slight mix of global flavors. The ambiance was nice and the food was tasty. I would definitely come back, maybe for dinner next time. read more

For those who don't know, 300 East is something of a Charlotte institution; I've been there countless times over the years I've lived here but not recently. They have always had, in my estimation, the best French onion soup around and I was craving it, so off I went. The restaurant off East Boulevard is an eclectic sort of place, and in my memory the interior hasn't ever changed. The wood is dark, the tables a bit worn and packed together to give a slightly claustrophobic feel, and the decor is always vaguely counterculture. For people who like NoDa and Plaza Midwood (before its recent transformation), it's homey as can be. I enjoyed the familiarity of its unpretentious surroundings as I took a seat in a tiny corner booth. Delighted to note that the French onion soup is as delicious as ever, with a richly flavored broth and a generous amount of bread and cheese baked in. While the quality hasn't diminished, thank heavens, the size has gone from a bowl to a cup. As it was my upcharged side I didn't mind terribly but still. Alas. Kudos to the kitchen for letting me have my soup before my sandwich was delivered, but here is where things went a little south. I had ordered The Usual, one of their trademark dishes, a hot open-faced chicken salad sandwich on a baguette topped with asparagus, mushrooms and cheese. It too has been the victim of shrinkflation, about 2/3 as big as once it was. Again, didn't mind terribly much but the toppings themselves were scant: three small strips of jarred or canned asparagus, four slices of mushroom. Okay, everything is expensive these days, but the edges of the sandwich were burned and the filling was cool, meaning the salamander setting was off and no one checked it before sending it out or putting it down. I might have considered sending it back but that's when my server disappeared. My water glass sat empty for half my meal and was never refilled. Even paying the check was sluggish. So I give the current state 300 East a solid three with a disappointed sigh because they seem to be phoning it in. Really great French onion soup, though. read more

This is probably the place I eat the most in Charlotte. I love coming here with friends for lunch. The food is consistent, the customer service is always polite and the desserts are not only good but beautiful! They also have indoor and outdoor seating , perfect for spring and summer. read more
Overall experience was a mixed bag this time. Cons: 1. Host was inattentive and had me seat myself. 2. Food was underwhelming. 3. Flies outside. Pros: 1. Waitress was great. 2. Outdoor seating was cute until the food arrived (see con #3). 3. Tasty brownie for my birthday! read more
Our experience at 300 East was just okay. I was a little disappointed because I have heard such great things! I will say, the outdoor seating is very cute. We were in a great spot and it would've been perfect if it wasn't for the bugs. Our service was okay...we did end up having to grab ourselves silverware and salt/pepper but not a big deal. We all agreed all of our food was just okay. Nothing in particular stood out. The pasta special they had was definitely a least favorite. read more
Must try: Pull-Apart Rolls and Lamb Chop! Why: The Pull-Apart Rolls were made with pumpkin, sea salt, and herb butter. I ate 4 out of the 6 rolls before and after my entree because they were so tasty, and my friend had the other 2 rolls. I also loved the Pork Chop cooked medium, which was juicy and tender with slivers of delicious fat. The large Pork Chop sat on top of a bed of pilaf and kale, which seemed to be well seasoned. I washed it all down with a Noda Brewery Pumpkin Ale. Notes: Super cute restaurant with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It was 6:30pm on a Monday with beautiful Fall weather so we sat outside to people watch while enjoying our meal. The workers were welcoming, friendly, and attentive. There were daily specials also that sounded amazing, next time though! There's a convenient parking lot in back of restaurant. Had a wonderful dining experience with a friend I've not seen in a while. read more

Phenomenal brunch menu!! Everyone at my table got something different and everyone loved their dish whether it was the breakfast pizza, French toast, eggs Benedict, breakfast tacos. Really high quality ingredients and dishes came out fresh and warm. Waiter was very helpful in recommending dishes, was very fast and attentive to our drinks. 300 East has long been one of Charlotte's best restaurants. I've been dining here since the early '90s, and now that I'm living in the area again, it's become a weekly go-to. Tuesdays are my favorite--half-price wine by the glass makes it the perfect time for me and my girlfriends to hang out in the late afternoon or early evening. When the weather's nice, the patio is one of the best places to be. The food is always consistently excellent, but what truly sets 300 East apart is the staff--many of whom I now consider friends. Their warmth and hospitality make every visit feel like coming home. Don't miss out on this Charlotte classic. It's a gem that only gets better with time. bring your pup to the patio ! read more
Wow. Cool place. Old house converted into a dining experience always catches my attention. One, for the preservation, two for the use of porch, lawn and rooms to create an experience. The drinks were really interesting and actually contained alcohol. Nice little shot of bourbon to go with my burger. I asked for well done and it was a tad too well done. Next time, I'll know that medium would do the trick. Dining companion had the salmon. She didn't speak to me, she was busy forkful after forkful. We shared the sweet potato ravioli....I am not always certain a chef knows what to do with the dangerously powerful gorgonzola, but trust me. They used it to just kick your tastebuds a little and balance what is now officially an overused sweet potato as an ingredient. Makes me wonder what they could do with an avocado. The cool little booths were fun to feel private and connected at the same time. The only downer was somebody in the back had a screaming fit (thought it was employee related) but no knives were flying as it was a personal matter that needed to be resolved out of earshot of the clients. Everything we ate at 300 East was absolutely INCREDIBLE. We were celebrating my best friend's birthday, and the entire staff was so kind and welcoming to her and helped us make her feel so special. The French Onion Soup is definitely the very best in Charlotte, and every dish we tried was just hit after hit! I absolutely loved the Crab Cakes and the Marinated Goat Cheese apps! Hands down one of the best restaurants in south end! Such a cozy atmosphere since you are in a house, and the decor is very cute. We came for brunch on a Saturday and it was packed. The service was great and we loved our food! Recommend the BEC Biscuit and it really fills you up. Also the breakfast tacos were great! read more

This was a pretty good breakfast restaurant, I really enjoyed the quaint and vintage ambiance. The inside was tight and intimate, so I'd say it's a great place to go with others whose company you'd really like to enjoy. Although I didn't eat outside, it seemed like the perfect place to enjoy a nice meal on a beautiful day. Finally, my coffee and biscuit were both pretty good, and the waiter was a really cool guy. Very charming former home that now is a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Weekends are for brunch and make sure you listen to the specials! Elizabeth, our server, was amazing: friendly, respectful, she know all the plates and made some recommendations and was always ready to answer any questions we had. We ordered a custard filled French toast as an appetizer but instead of vanilla, it had a lemon custard that was delicious! It came with caramel walnut that were delicious: they even had a little salt on them. I had the breakfast nachos that featured home made chips, two eggs, pico, guac, black beans, etc. I asked that they add bacon to the mix because bacon makes the world go round! We also tried their crab Benedict's with pepper jelly on the side. Everything was fresh, delicious and needless to say, we will be back on our next visit to Charlotte! read more
This quaint lovely house restaurant is quite charming in Charlotte. We parked in the rear and then entered in the front through the outdoor patio and then inside where there is a bar on the first level. Our group sat upstairs. We were there during weekend brunch. I had the Beyond Burger with potato salad $14.75 with added mushrooms $1.50 and Gorgonzola $1.50. It was so delicious. It was a nice experience. read more

My absolute go to whenever I am in Charlotte. 300 East Is such a quaint and cozy spot with the most exceptional food and service that never disappoints. On this visit I had chicken and biscuits with a side of mac and cheese. Outstanding! Will definitely order again on the next visit. Chicken seasoned super well with the perfect amount of crisp. Mac and cheese was creamy goodness, slaw, amazing. Different from what I have ever had. Love the spin on it. The biscuits?!??? There are no words in Webster's (iykyk) to describe how delicious these melt in your mouth, buttery, taste of goodness they are. I need an order to go next time! Love this place! We arrived for a pre-matinee brunch and were sat at one of the small booths by the window. This place feels very quaint and personal, like you're sitting in someone's living room. It is in strong contrast with every other restaurant that feels 'corporate'. There are lots of vintage fireplaces and interesting things to look at. I asked our very friendly server if it is possible to get a hot toddy even thought it wasn't on the menu and without hesitation, the bartender made one of the best hot toddy's I have ever tasted! We also enjoyed the apple hot cake, grits bowl and biscuit and sausage gravy. Everything was delicious! We can't wait to return for dinner soon. Brunch was amazing when I went a few weeks ago. The brunch salad special with a poached egg, bacon lardons, and deep fried brie needs to be a permanent menu item. I would get it every time. read more
