Great Staff and restaurant scenery
Lincoln P.

I pulled up to Golden Waffle with the boys on a calm Sunday Morning post July 4th. On their song, Sunday morning, the great band Maroon 5 said, " Driving slow on Sunday morning and I never want to leave." And that's the feeling of dining at Golden Waffle, why leave this heavenly place. I mean there are no complaints about this fine establishment, it checks all the boxes. Amazing food, consistently excellent service and shockingly low prices. They somehow make dining in a restaurant founded in 1970 feel like you're eating in the future. Call me an out of towner, but $5.95 for a waffle and two eggs is UNHEARD OF. I ordered that and man was that a delightful breakfast. I had a large group and the considerate staff checked up on us constantly "do you want more coffee?" " is everything alright over here?" a worker even exclaimed "CHEESE!" when we were taking a photo to capture the moment. I know this is getting long but if you're still reading, go try the Golden Waffle for yourself it will not disappoint, open 24 hours a day and trust me it will be crowded, but it will be quick, so take in the moment and enjoy some damn good food!

Country ham biscuit!
KingSasquatcho S.

It's a cool southern diner. The waitress was sweet and prompt with everything. Having moved away from the south I had to indulge in the country ham biscuits and they were awesome!

Get the biscuits! This place is the closest thing to mom making breakfast in the morning! You won't be disappointed!

It had crunch instead of being too wet or too mushy. The smashed potatoes were very good! Potatoes served like that aren't usually my thing but they were delicious and well seasoned. I ordered the shrimp and corn while my husband got the crab cakes. Some places are mostly filling with hints of crab, Full Moon was the opposite--maximum amount of crab with the right amount of "cake". The shrimp was great and perfectly steamed. The corn came out piping hot! The service was fantastic. The seating is mostly bar tops which is cool and allows for the service to be seamless. Honestly it felt like a beach vacation on a Tuesday. Our next visit will be on a Tuesday so I can try the all you can eat crab legs.

My second visit was just as delightful. Had the Shrimp Boil platter with corn, sausage and garlic toast. It was super yummy! Highly recommend!

If I could give this place ten stars, I would. You will have a wait when you get there, and you…read morewill wait no matter how long it takes. You cannot find a better place for a meal, or more kind folks running the place from top to bottom. And if your plate is too big to finish, feel free to take it home, because you'll want to save room for dessert. Magnolia 23 is a staple in our household. So long as we've lived within a 30 minute drive, it has been a great place for a Sunday lunch, or any other meal within the hours they are open. They treat you like family from the very start with the way that they take names for the line. It's natural to start a conversation with the people around you, because everyone has the same end game - a great meal. Once you're seated, it's never long before a waitress comes and takes your drink order. The menu for the day is posted on Facebook and written on the board on the wall, along with the sides and dessert options. There's no menus because it's a meat and two sides, plus a bread of either roll or cornbread. The seating is tables and chairs, although some areas have couches for seating, which is a nice change of pace. Today I got stewed beef with sides of mac and cheese, yams, and bread choice was cornbread. My other half got the country style steak, with sides of cabbage and rice with gravy, and bread of cornbread. The littles shared a fried chicken plate with side of mashed potatoes with gravy. They divided and conquered their food so fast I forgot to snag a picture of it. The stewed beef was perfection. So tender, and the juices went well with the cornbread. The yams were expertly spiced, and prepared with so much love. The mac and cheese was delicious, so I offered some to my youngest who promptly stole the rest of it. I did sample the country style steak, and it was so delicious that none was spared. I cannot wait to eat my leftover stewed beef later this week, as I knew I wanted to save room for dessert. We ordered two fried apple pies, and a slice of Hershey bar cake. Be careful with the fried pies - the filling turns into molten lava when heated, so despite the fact that you'll want to take the largest first bite, please be patient and spare your taste buds from their imminent demise by letting it cool a minute. The spices on the apple filling on the fried pies were perfect, and I savored every bite that I stole from my husband. My dessert was the Hershey bar cake, which I split with one of my littles. It didn't have a thick layer of icing, which was great. The cake had a nice crumb, and was sweet without being overly sweet. If you haven't been here yet, make sure to take note of their hours and then take a trip to Asheboro. Once you've finished your meal, feel free to take a stroll around downtown and know that you've just had the best meal around. Magnolia 23 is worth the price and worth the wait, because you will be blessed by the whole experience.

Magnolia 23 used to be good, which makes our experience tonight all the more disappointing. We…read morespent $50 on a meal that none of us particularly wanted to eat, and the decline in quality was hard to overlook. My husband ordered the country fried steak, which appeared to be made from low quality ground beef and was covered in thick, gelatinous gravy. My daughter's chicken pie looked and tasted like it had been sitting around for days. It was dried out, bland, and had an unpleasant, almost gritty texture. My chicken and dumplings were passable, but only after adding enough hot sauce to give them some flavor. The sides tasted like they came straight from a can, and the rolls seemed no different from something you could pull out of the grocery store freezer section. I understand that operating a small, independent restaurant is challenging, particularly when costs are rising and customers have less disposable income. I genuinely want places like Magnolia 23 to succeed. But cutting corners on food quality while continuing to charge prices that represent a meaningful expense for a family is not a sustainable solution. What bothered me most wasn't any single dish. It was the overall impression that quality and value are no longer priorities. This didn't feel like a kitchen having an off night. It felt like a fundamental change in what the restaurant is serving. The dining room was nearly empty, and unfortunately, after tonight, I can understand why. When families choose to spend $50 eating out, they deserve a meal that feels worth the expense. We certainly didn't get that tonight. I hope Magnolia 23 can find its way back to what made it good in the first place. I'd much rather support a local restaurant than a chain, but supporting local businesses shouldn't mean accepting poor quality food at a premium.

I had already chosen my "carved turkey Reuben sandwich", yum, when I first went at around 12:30-the line was out the door, so went to my appointment, hoping I could get back by the 230 close time. Returned at about 215 yay, and happily walked right up to the counter to order my lunch, when I was told they were out of carved turkey (the way the server explained it sounded like an ingredient in the Reuben was out, not the actual turkey. I asked if the "simple turkey sandwich" had carved turkey, and I was told no, it was deli meat-deli meat is so processed and unhealthy. I was super disappointed. So I opted for a Smashburger after asking how they liked it and she said it was "delicious". Well, it's not a Smashburger. It's a double burger on a nothing special bun. I was going to take the bun off and eat it with a knife and fork, and I was looking for those yummy crispy edges on a authentic Smashburger. They didn't exist. This was a double cheeseburger with very thick patties. I think they were grass fed so kudos to them for that,, but it was incredibly dry sadly, and when I saw that the bun had been toasted with butter, I put it back on and had a couple more bites, but was super disappointed-and trust me nobody loves a great cheeseburger more than I but now I love smash burgers as well!. I also ordered the Orzo cucumber and feta salad (as well as the french fries) on the side and while it was OK, it was nothing special. French fries were just meh. After all the stellar reviews I had I was very surprised that they would make a double cheeseburger and call it a Smash-burger-I wish these restaurants would stop doing that, it's misleading, other restaurants do this too. And for the money I spent, I should've just gone to Shake shack! I DO think it's worth a second chance, and I will say everybody there was very kind on the Service level and it's an adorable, really beautiful spot and vibe ! I strolled around and looked at the merchandise afterwards. So hopefully I'll be back but just super disappointed I didn't have a nice meal and left hungry.

First thing I noticed was how clean the place looked and the lady who greeted me was super friendly and attentive along the way. The burger was delicious on a grilled bun, seasoned perfectly, and they use the good pickles. The only thing I didn't like about the burger was that the cheese was not melted. The Chicago Dog is really good and it's a grilled dog on a grilled bun with tomatoes, pickles, jalapeños, onions and mustard and sprinkled with celery salt on top. Yummy! The fries were good but needed to be cooked a little bit longer for my liking. Not very crispy. No seasoning added. Everything was made to order and came out hot. We started with the spinach dip and everyone loved it. It came with these toasted bread bites that had a great seasoning and crunch to them. They kind of reminded me of an everything bagel but as a bread bite. This paired really nicely with the hot spinach dip. They also have a ton of coffee and tea options. I was a little bummed that did not have fountain sodas. My sister got a smoothie and really liked it. For my entree I got the Italian flatbread. It was a really nice combination of flavors with the sausage and peppers. I sampled my boyfriend's flatbread (pickled) and thought it was great as well! I really didn't know what to make of it all, and worried the food wouldn't be very good, since their focus seemed split in several directions. However, I tried several different things on the menu, and most of them did not disappoint. We split a Green Bacon Flatbread and Cajun Chicken Quesadilla, and I also got a side of mac and cheese and a strawberry smoothie. The flatbread was pretty good, although it did JUST taste like bacon. I ate it with ranch, which they do well. I suspect their other flatbreads (which they have a LOT of) are less one-note, but I'll never know, because I would just order this one again. The quesadilla was great, and the chicken was well-seasoned. They also season the outside of the tortilla, and I appreciated the extra kick of flavor. This came with sour cream and a salsa verde. The mac and cheese was mild, creamy, and chock full of pepper. Usually I like a sharper cheese flavor, but I enjoyed it. Smoothies were extremely cheap (under $5 for a 16 oz), but unfortunately we got what we paid for. They were wayyyy too sweet for our tastes, and not a lot of any fruit flavors came through. Our server was kind, attentive, and quick. The interior was very spacious and I noticed several people with laptops out doing work while they drank coffee. It's a nice space.
