Let it be known this is the place to go to get the best fried chicken in Asheboro. On the menu, it's a 1/2 Fried Chicken with 2 sides and choice of a bread. All of that for $9.99! You can't beat that price. I ordered the Fried Chicken with Creamed Potatoes with gravy, Cabbage and hot rolls. The plate came out hot and steamy. The creamed potatoes were served with some of the daily special's gravy on it. It wasn't chicken gravy but it was a good homemade gravy. Were the potatoes real or boxed or a mix of both? I couldn't tell. If they were boxed, they fixed them up to taste real. If they were real, they sure did a great job at creaming them. It's on debate. The Cabbage was cooked perfect, seasoned well. The hot rolls were not homemade but they were fresh, light and fluffy and served warm. The star of the plate was definitely the chicken. Cooked to order, it came out super hot. It was cooked perfectly. Crispy on the outside, meat was tender and juicy on the inside. I peeled off some of the skin and juice was dripping all over the plate. It's hard to find good fried chicken and I've been trying several of the local places but so far, this place is #1. Also, the sweet tea is GREAT! The service was super friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean and there are lots of tables and booths, but get there early or after lunch because they were full when I arrived at around 1:30pm. I would highly recommend for the Fried Chicken. read more

This is a great meat and three type restaurant. I particularly enjoy chicken pie or chicken casserole day. If you're a fan of fried okra, you need to try theirs. My daughter loves their spaghetti on the kids menu--it's a great portion and good flavor too. read more

P & J's Diner - Updated menu as of 4/2/24. - Diners Near Me - Asheboro, North Carolina

So our family moved to the area back in October and I couldn't be happier about this little diner not far from us. P&J's Diner is a family staple for us that serves up some delicious southern fare and diner food. It has a wide variety of things on the menu ranging from bbq chicken, meatloaf, seafood platters, to broccoli chicken over rice, burgers, and quesadillas. Needless to say, there is something for everyone. My two daughters love it, and that says a lot! My youngest will gobble up an entire side of their green beans and ask for more. The waitstaff are great. Personable, helpful, and typically funny! They make you feel like family. The place isn't huge and is always busy for lunch but well worth the wait. read more

I've only breakfast there a few times and it's been good and people were frendly. I recommend their breakfast tenderloin.

I usually use the drive thru so the service is great there! Call ahead with your order when using the drive thru because P&J diner can be very busy! Breakfast is awesome with fried eggs, bacon, toast and grits. Lunch specials are great especially the pork chops, okra and cabbage! I have eaten inside and the restaurant has a " down home" feel waitresses are quick to refill the morning coffee! Very friendly feel of the restaurant! read more

Food is good sometimes and the same items can taste awful on other days so they are not consistent. What they charge doesn't match menu prices so be careful. read more

Decent place or a quick meal. Service was good. May stop there if in the area. But won't travel far to eat there.

The food is great if you like home cooking. The wattresses are fast and efficient. The cooks in the kitchen prepare your food very fast and it's delicious. The ambiance is very laid back and relaxing as the people enjoy their food read more

Nice little meat & 2 diner on the northern edge of Asheboro serving all 3 meals, 6 days a week. They have a daily special or 2, standard menu items like: Chicken Livers, Country Style Steak, Salmon Patties, Country Ham, Grilled Chicken, and Smothered Chicken - runs $5. 29 to $6.99 with 2 veggies and bread. Veggies are the usual suspects. Also usual sandwiches, fried seafood plates ($8 or $9), Spaghetti, and a bowl of Pintos with onions & hushpuppies for $3.49 - really nice. Plates are generally good - Like the Chicken Livers & CS Steak, especially. Fried seafood is a little inconsistent, but when it is good, it is good. Chili dog is not really good - thin chili with a somewhat strange taste, and the onions can be very strong (costs $1,69). Cheeseburger is excellent, great flavor, and priced righat $2.79. Nothing fancy here, food or decor, but solid place with good, friendly service, very reasonably priced. Give it a shot. read more

Great country cooking at reason prices. Very friendly, efficient wait staff! My go to place when I want down-home cooking.

Food is great and staff are friendly and welcoming! It's a little loud when the place is full but worth the noise.

Don't order Mac n cheese. Food isn't bad, quick, good hospitality, a real home town favorite for all the elderly, yes they came for breakfast and will be back for supper because they know their friends will be there two. Kind of like a rest home cafeteria because the foods so bland but it's alright' AND there's more options. I grew tired of eating PJs diner as a kid but we still went every single day of summer because it's cheap and too hot to turn the stove on, according to my mama. The owners kids are super snobby little pricks, the drive thru window takes 7-10 business days before they acknowledge you. Otherwise I suggest P&J's Diner. read more

Food was good and good value, but really disappointed that the cook staff were not wearing beard covers. There were several cooking that should have been. If they would change that I would feel more comfortable eating there. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. All tables were full and everyone seemed to be serviced quickly. I would give it 4 stars if the kitchen staff had proper sanitary covers for beards. read more

We stopped here on a trip today to the beach, so it's a little farther than just off the exit. It was absolutely worth it. Local diner. Cheap as hell. Large menu for anytime. Breakfast specials include coffee, although it was after breakfast hours, I saw it on the sign. I'm a vegetarian. There was a 4 item veggie plate. Your choice of all the sides plus a Bread of your choice for 5.79. Had I been hungrier I would have gotten it, but I had a grilled cheese and crinkle fries. Friend got the double cheeseburger with everything, including slaw, chili and onion. Service was very fast and super friendly. Refills were prompt. Food came quickly and was fresh and hot. Friend said her burger was great. They use only fresh, hand pattied meat, which was evident from the taste. Burgers were thick and toppings plentiful. Crushed ice in the drinks. Bathrooms were clean. We were there at lunch time so it was busy. You seat yourself and pay at the counter. Cheapest lunch I've had in awhile. I would recommend this place if you are like me and don't mind a few more minutes of driving to bypass chain restaurants any time I can. Excellent local diner. Oh ya. Almost forgot. The clientele. The local fire and police stations are nearby, so that fresh double burger comes in second to all that beef! read more

This is definitely a favorite of the older locals. Personally I am not a fan. The wait staff were not in good moods when I went for the first and last time. Everything they serve is frozen! Not my type of place. read more

I can't believe this place doesn't have more reviews. Burgers are great, fries are crisp and so is the grilled cheese. Veggies are questionable though. They're FAST and the food is always piping hot. They also converted my daughter to a lover of hush puppies. For the type of food they serve and the type of establishment they are, you're really getting your bang for your buck. And you can tell they put thought into the decor. The decor actually looks like something you're find in a nice contemporary den in a modern home. read more

I love this restaurant! The staff are extra special. Great service! They make custom pancakes for my grandbaby. The food is delicious. My four-year-old grandbaby loves to eat at PJs and the servers make him feel extra special. Great food and great price read more

My family and I showed up at 7:58 for dinner, they were closed , (suppose to close at 8:30) sign was off so we called , rude lady who answered the phone lied and said they close at 8 , when my wife said did you change your hours ? She rudely said we closed early and hung up. Needless to say will never come back here again. read more

Purchased a cheeseburger and grilled chicken sandwich about 30 mins before closing time. Both were bland in flavor and sloppy made. The bun was flat and soggy. I would not recommend eating at this place, at least around closing time. Maybe I'll try again another day another time. I was turned off by the look and taste of my food. By the way I don't smoke so I know it wasn't my taste buds. I hope my next visit is very different. read more

Amazing food! I have never eaten here and not lovdd it! Recently though I am about 8 months pregnant and I have had a horrendous craving for home cooked food and P&J's meatloaf always hits the target!! This is as close to eating at home as you can get without actually being at home. The food here is home style. Everything from seasonal offerings to country cooking. Fish, burgers, sanwiches, steaks, chicken, BBQ and everything in between. The P&J burger is my absolute favorite. Everything here is awsome. Never had a bad meal. Just as good as the food offered, the service is impeccable. Fast, clean, affordable and friendly. Passing through? On your way to the beach? Dont pass this up. Its just off the highway. Youll never regret it. read more

Foods ok & the prices are ok. Nothin to write home about but its alot better than fastfood but cheap as fast food. Service is always good,

Just a decent southern dive. Daily specials usually have at least a couple good choices and the desserts are solid. I haven't had anything here that's changed my life or anything but it's not a bad spot to stop for lunch. read more

I have eaten at this restaurant for many years. Everything I have ever gotten there was absolutely delicious! Whether it is something as simple as an egg salad sandwich (homemade egg salad which is heavenly) to seafood, country style steak or one of their many chicken items it is always homemade and wonderful! The service is terrific and SHOULD something not be absolutely correct they have no problem making sure it gets fixed immediately!
