This Cagney's is roomier than most Cagney's I've been to. Plenty of room for large groups. The food was great as always, as well as the service.

Came with my son for a quick bit and I was not disappointed at all the have great prices and with this being the new one that is right next to the old one

    Breakfast!

We stopped by for a rare free-day breakfast. I do t normally eat breakfast or have many days off, but it is the perfect time of year for an outing. I got the Friday breakfast and coffee. Sausage eggs, biscuit, and gravy. It was all decent. The eggs were not over well as requested. The gravy tasted as if it was a mix. I'm not sure how that works. It was okay, toning special. Overall it was fine. My wife got liver mush and a pancake which were both great. The liver mush had that perfect fried crust that is hard to get. The coffee was average, but I'm a bit of a coffee snob and usually drink it black. I put cream and sugar in mine today. Overall I'd say Cagneys is not. Greasy spoon. I would categorize it as a standard NC family restaurant. Decent, cheap, southern food.

They gave us free chips and a dip which we don't get in Canada.

Omg. Was this a great place to stop and eat. We are from Canada and found the service and food fantastic. They served us breakfast during the lunch hour rush (which some restaurants won't do). The southern hospitality so good. I had corn bread so yummy, we don't have corn bread in Canada. A busy place and to me that means great food.

Its right next to the post office and had I not seen someone else enter before me, I would have been confused on where to find it. It's just a single glass door on the side of the building. No open sign, name of restaurant or hours posted on it. First of all, the service was amazing. So friendly and sweet! Both ladies that waited on us were awesome. secondly, the menu has all sorts of delicious options that anyone can find something they like. It's super casual inside. They have the country diner vibe down. Tables and chairs in the center and some booths around the perimeter. They have regular menus but definitely check out the specials board next to and the host/cashier station and huge wall size chalkboard on the back wall. That chalkboard is where the cool kids order from. HA! Just kidding! As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing on any menu that is not delicious. I'm now on a quest to take note of all the little out of the way places I come across. Who knows what kind of gems I've been missing all these years!

You have to understand, that I am a total burger snob. As a reference point, my favorite burger in the Piedmont Triad is Hops Burger Bar in Greensboro, and I'll drive the 20 miles and stand around waiting on a table for 30 minutes, at the first suggestion, no questions asked. Also way up there is/was Big Burger Spot, but they've now slipped into third place since Guy is no longer the owner and overseer and now that I've had the burgers at Thunder Road. First off, they will cook your burger to your desired doneness. For me, that's the minimum standard that a burger joint has to meet, and my medium-rare burgers have been spot-on every time. From there, the buns, the topping, the sides have always been fresh, tasty and again, done to order to meet my picky requests! "Can I get those tots crispy?" "Since I haven't tried it, can you put that sauce on the side?" "Can you cook that bacon crispy but not burnt?" Each request was met with something like a "You bet!" and the execution of the request was perfect. I really like that each table is equipped with a roll of paper towels and several condiments including the local Texas Pete, as well as salt, pepper, and some form of seasoning salt. Often when I see these things on tables in diners they are grimy and the table beneath then is sticky and dirty, but they make an extra effort to keep them clean and well stocked. For example, last week I grabbed the red bottle of Heinz ketchup, expecting that I would need to request a swap with a full bottle, but no, it was totally full! Just like when I was a kid, I love crunchy potato chips on my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and I like fries with my ketchup! Let's face the facts that one of these days I'm bound to be disappointed in something, but from what I can see from the friendly and attentive staff, it's going to something I can overlook or that they'll be willing to address. Oh, that reminds me about the bathrooms! I often dread entering the men's room in a one-off diner or pub, but I was elated to find a clean and fresh smelling space that was well lit and well supplied. They've won us over. Last Saturday we bought three of our granddaughters, and today will be joined by my sister and brother-in-law, who are also locals and bound to become fans of Thunder Road Grill! As I re-read this before posting it, I wonder, why do I leave good reviews for places that I don't want to see become crowded and popular? Sometimes I question my sanity! Be sure to say howdy to me if we run into each other. And Fred B, I think you need to give them one more try.

I took one of the wooden booths that line the walls and say beneath the car, truck and racing paraphernalia that adorns the walls throughout. The service was fantastic given that I was the only one to care for. I ordered the BLT plate with tater tots and a hot dog. The BLT was served on a toasted bun. The bacon was thick and had just a slight chew to it. Just the right amount of mayo and tomatoes cut to a good thickness. Hot dog was pretty great. They put a real generous amount of mustard *under* the frank then topped with chili and a nice creamy slaw. If the bun had been toasted it would have been darn near perfect. Appreciated the self-serve seasoning salt at each table. Tots were good without but especially good with. Thunder Road Grill was worth the drive and I hope to return!

I came on a Thursday because 1 of the daily specials on that day is Fried Chicken - 4 pieces with 2 sides costing $13.49. The pieces were a wing, drumstick, thigh, and a large breast. My side choices were mashed potatoes with gravy and pinto beans. This was a solid diner meal, and was a value meal as well. This would have have been rated even high except for 2 things - the chicken and both sides were under seasoned, and I had to chase down my waitress twice - once to get a to go box, and once to get my check.
