We came for breakfast today and sat at the counter. First of all the patrons were all pretty friendly and some said hi. It's definitely super causal you wear yourself wherever and then they come to help you. A little awkward if you don't know that walking in; we kinda stopped by the door for a minute. Anyway our server brought over menus and got our drink order immediately and came back to check on us for our order. As we were waiting for our food we saw that the drive thru part of the diner is still active which we thought was awesome. We both got the pancake special I did mine w bacon and gravy- my husbands w country ham($1 more) and hash browns. I also got a coffee. The food was good bacon was crispy and we know I had to try his ham which was also very good a bit salty but that's to be expected. Eggs were done as asked and the pancakes were fresh off the griddle. A few things to note they are Cash Only! They do have an atm there if you forget cash. As far as prices they are super reasonable. Our breakfast was $7.50 each plus the coffee and upgrade for country ham. I think the people w more negative comments need to adjust expectations- the counters and tables were clean it's just all very old school and not updated. The kitchen itself is clean and the servers are friendly. We will be back for sure!

I love that they took the time to wrap this well so it wasn't all over the place before it got to me

When I was a little girl myself and the neighborhood kids would ride our bikes here and grab a hotdog. After moving back years later I wondered if this place was even there anymore and also if it was as good as I remembered...yes to both!! Location:It is off of country club road. Not too visible from the street due to it being in the back of the center but it does have a big parking lot back there and a drive thru window(classic order at the window like back in the day) Vibe:Very casual and definitely a step back into the good ole days of what casual neighborhood diners were Food: I can only speak for the hotdogs because it is what I always get... the bun is PERFECTLY toasted every time even 20+years later (which is one of the things I remembered most) the chili and slaw are great and I have to compliment the neat wrapping they do. It doesn't end up everywhere when opening. Customer service:just as friendly as I remember. Not sure if it is the same owner not however, each time I have been greeted with a friendly smile and have had a positive experience Tips: bring cash. They do not accept cards Get a hotdog all the way and enjoy!

This is a small place just off of Country Club, kinda out of sight and up a hill. We dropped in for a quick lunch, and chose to pick from what items were available on their small "Hot Bar". Today the entrees were CS Steak and Beef Stew, and there were 5 or 6 vegetable choices, and either Biscuits or Corn Bread. The CS Steak was just OK, the meat reminded of the kind of ground, compressed "mystery meat" of the high school cafeteria - a little bland tasting, and the gravy was a bit watery. The Turnip Greens were very nice, but the Fried Okra was greasy. The Beef Stew was excellent (tender & full of flavor), and it was mostly beef, very little in the way of vegetables. The Pintos and Corn were canned, but had been nicely seasoned. The biscuit was very nice, the corn bread not so much. We tried the Banana Pudding, but would not do so again. The little place is rather plain inside, but clean and bright, though it is not centrally cooled, and it was more than a bit warm inside. The service was friendly and attentive, though everything moved at a rather slow pace. The food here is a mixed bag, mostly solid, but nothing spectacular. The portions are large, and the prices are not - the well-filled lunch plates were $6.70 each.

Well... it's okay. The waitress was super nice, even though we could tell it's a place for "regulars". I ordered a breakfast sandwich with biscuits and gravy on the side. Given the choice between white and brown gravy, I took the white (on the waitresses recommendation). On second pass, I'd try the brown next time, as the white was not that great. Biscuits were fine, nothing extraordinary. Coffee was exactly as you'd expect - 'diner-like quality'. I'd stop by again, but probably not go out of my way. Perfectly fine if you live nearby and want a dirt cheap breakfast.

Goody's is well-lit, clean and inviting. You order at the counter and then take a number to where you want to sit. They bring you your food. They have a pretty extensive menu but are known for their baked potatoes and plethora of variations of topping for those potatoes. The people behind the counter were friendly and helpful answering questions. My daughter ordered Buffalo chicken baked potato and I opted for the loaded cheesesteak. We split fry and each got a drink. It didn't take long for our food to be brought to us. The baked potato was HUGE and loaded with butter, cheese and chicken with hot sauce. Ranch and sour cream were on the side. My cheesesteak was loaded into a sub roll. Beef, cheese, onions, peppers and mushroom. The sun had some real weight to it lol. The fries were shoestring and were fine. My daughter LOVED her baked potato. It was way too much for her to eat and ended up taking 1/2 of it home with her. My cheesesteak was EXCELLENT. Great flavor and plenty of food. All being said, it was $32 including a 12% counter tip. The food was excellent and plentiful. The staff friendly and helpful. Check them out online. They have a large menu, surely something for everyone. We will be back.

By the…read moretime we got settled in, dining options were pretty limited, so we searched online and this spot looked like the best choice -- and we're glad we found it. When we pulled up, there was a police outside, which didn't bother us. If anything, it made things feel more secure. They also use a metal detector when you walk in before being seated. Don't let that scare you off though -- this place is a well-oiled machine and everything felt organized and under control. Our server was fantastic: calm, attentive, and never pushy. I ordered the country fried steak with collards and mashed potatoes with gravy, and my husband got a burger. My meal was excellent, and it came with a perfectly flaky biscuit. The tea was Southern SWEET tea, too. My husband said his burger was good for a diner, fresh vegetables and the fries were seasoned well. The diner itself is adorable, full of character and charm. Overall, we had a great experience and would absolutely come back.

Review for Midnight Diner…read more classic, retro-style diner--the kind with a counter, cozy booths, and a nostalgic vibe. The only thing missing is a waitress calling you "hon," and honestly, that might be part of the charm. I was craving a West Coast favorite--chicken fried steak--which I quickly learned is called country fried steak here in the South. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner... it didn't matter. I wanted comfort food, and this place delivered. I ordered takeout and picked it up without any hassle. They have their own private parking lot, which is a huge plus, especially for an Uptown location. It's situated right across from the Hyatt Regency and along the light rail, so I can imagine it gets very busy--particularly if you're heading to or leaving the Spectrum Center. This is exactly the kind of spot where you grab a solid meal to soak up whatever you've been celebrating. And the food? Generous. Very generous. My order included: * Country fried steak with gravy * Mashed potatoes * Pancakes * And, because curiosity got the best of me, their coconut French toast That coconut French toast was the wildcard--and it did not disappoint. Sweet, indulgent, and definitely a treat. Between that and the rest of the meal, it was a lot of food, but I was very happy. The price point is reasonable, the service was fast, and the whole experience felt easy and reliable--exactly what you want from a diner. Next time, I'd like to sit inside and enjoy the full experience, because the atmosphere looks like part of the fun. As someone still exploring Charlotte as a foodie after relocating from the West Coast, it's always nice to find places that deliver those nostalgic comfort-food moments--and this one absolutely did. Bottom line: Great comfort food, generous portions, easy parking, and a classic diner vibe. A solid go-to spot in Uptown, especially when you're hungry and want something satisfying.
