I have been craving breakfast lately but have not felt like cooking. Today I chose Cagney's Kitchen in Old Salisbury Road. They are a tad pricier than most breakfast spots and you get 1 less egg. The breakfast was really good but the portions are small. They also did not provide any condiments for delivery like most places. My toast was almost burnt so I didn't eat that. I ordered the Corn Beef & Hash breakfast platter. The food was good but the grits were very bland. I likely won't order again due to the price being higher and getting less food. Again, restaurants are not putting care into what they send out the door for delivery. They also are not sealing the bags nor providing condiments. read more

I used to eat breakfast here often before COVID. A few weeks ago I had breakfast here and ordered a veggie omelet with chunky hash brown potatoes well done. The omelet hardly had any vegetables in it and the hash browns were hardly cooked. I didn't complain, but should have. I went back today and ordered the hash brown "Really Well Done". They came out barely more cooked than the last time. I complained and they brought out another batch that was hardly better than the first. I complained and they took them back and cooked them more and then got it right. By then I had eaten my eggs rather than letting them get cold so did not have any to eat with the potatoes. We just stopped by to eat on a recommendation from my 91 year old grandmother. I love you and thank you grandma Lessie. It was amazing. The service was great, there was no wait time to be seated and the feel of the restaurant was amazing. The food was great, came out hot and fresh just the way we ordered it. This place seems to amaze me. Order your food to go ahead of time to avoid the wait. So I thought. Three times in a row had to wait an extra 15 minutes for whatever reason. But what gets me today is I walk in for my order. Gave my name. 3 other customers come in after me and was given their food. But when it's time for my food(late per usual) they ask for me to show my order on my phone. After i sat there for 15 minutes. Mind you none of the other pick ups had to show their phones or orders. I like the food but this place is not ran with any organization and that will be the last time I feel like Im being targeted for trying to steal. If showing your order/phone is policy then ok. Had a long day at work decided to order for family for dinner. 70$ order they me up the easiest order a salad so I called they offer to fix the food I go back and they had to audacity to ask for the salad they messed up WHT!! Then they just offered to give me the replacement chicken without the rest of the salad!! We saw Cagney's Kitchen while we were at the hospital for my husband's medical study. We chose the Old Salisbury Rd location due to better reviews. The location n Cloverdale had a bad review about a customer with a service dog being berated and excluded by manager. So now for the review of Old Salisbury Rd Cagney's Kitchen: Great food and great service! My husband loves country cooking and had a hard time choosing 'cis it all looked great. He ordered the country fried chicken in gravy which was perfect. Being a vegetarian I wasn't sure what they'd offer but was delighted to see vegetarian lasagna and salad on the menu. Also we got fried okra. All was delicious!! The service from the young waitress was outstanding and food was brought promptly and it was good and hot. She checked on us periodically and refilled drinks as needed. We definitely plan to go back next time we're in town to this location. read more

Ordered via DoorDash, and loved their breakfast. Portion sizes were slightly too small, which is the reason one star is lacking. Other than that, we enjoyed this. We stopped in this newest location of the growing Cagney chain yesterday for a late breakfast, and it simply could not have been a better experience - food, service, atmosphere, pricing. We'd eaten several meals here when it was the Olde Orchard Diner, and while we enjoyed those, this dining experience was at an entirely different level. We got there a few minutes before 11 AM, and it was moderately busy, with some folks wrapping up a late breakfast, some beginning an early lunch. We seated ourselves, and were quickly presented menus, and our drink orders were taken. We decided to go for the late breakfast this time out - Alice choosing a special that included a pancake, 2 eggs, and bacon ($5.25), while I went with Country Fried Steak (after confirming it came with traditional white, peppered gravy), 2 eggs over medium, grits, and toast ($6.95). I wanted to try a side of hash browns (they have both the shredded, and the chunky, home fried styles here), and I went with the chunky because the waitress said they would come out nice and crispy. She was really cool, had worked for the Old Orchard Diner for 16 years, and then made the transition here - seems we were in a good place, indeed. The food came out rather quickly, 10 minutes or less, and perfect in every way. The pancake was huge, loaded with flavor, the syrup almost superfluous - the soft scrambled eggs superbly done, with the exact liquidity needed and requested - the bacon amazingly plentiful at these prices - the Country Fried Steak was exactly as expected, the white gravy sinful - the eggs over medium were, indeed, just that - the grits were the kind where you have no need for shrimp, the question never came up - the toast was perfect, the butter already applied - and the hash browns were sublime, no, more than that, it was food for the Gods - real potatoes, crispy as promised! I don't suggest that everyone will have the same experience - tastes vary, experiences are subject to a multitude of variances, expectations are often unfounded & woefully ignorant, and some folks go into a fish house and insist on ordering a steak, cooked well done. This house is local, Southern, diner cuisine at its best - the food, the atmosphere, and the people employed here reflect that - if you expect more, or except less, you are at the wrong place. read more

This was my first stop at Cagney's at this location. I had the egg and bacon plate. It was meh. This is going to sound weird but the egg (over easy) didn't have enough yolk. The hash browns were a little under done. I added onions and peppers to the hash browns as I always do but the peppers were cut way to big. The toast wasn't toasted enough. Do not eat at cagneys on old Salisbury. Me and my friend went. Our food was burnt and had no taste. The waitress was made aware, but didn't care. I had the Carolina burger which has chili, cheese, onions, slaw and mustard. I first left the slaw and mustard off. When I tasted it, I added those items and it was still gross and burnt. When I looked at the chili, it looked like dog food. Thin, watery with white specs. Chili is what makes the Carolina burger. I told Lewan the owner and he did absolutely nothing to make it right. He didn't volunteer any way to make things right. The best cagneys is at Cloverdale. I advise that you stay away from the old Salisbury rd location. I stopped in here for a quick bite to eat. I was absolutely satisfied and way too full by the time I left. Luckily, we got there right before the church crowds and were seated immediately. I went with my usual breakfast pick of two eggs - over medium, shredded hashbrowns, sausage patties and toast. However, this time I added gravy to go with my biscuit. The eggs were perfectly cooked. No runny whites but the yolk was slimy goodness for my toast to soak up. The sausage was decent but I wished it would have been a tad spicer. Now, the biscuit. That was the best biscuit I had ever had. So light and fluffy. Perfectly crisp on the outside. Made for holding other perfect foods, like my gravy. *heart flutters* The service was good. Thought I'd give the new place a try. Must say super friendly staff. I hadn't been smiled at so much in my life. Sat down, and hot waited on right away. I decided to try the daily special of meatloaf. Typically I don't ask people's opinion of the food I will order and try it. But when it comes to meatloaf it is either pretty good or oh my what was I thinking. The waitress said she didn't know but then said a lot of folks order it. Fine give me the meatloaf. I then eye fried squash a weakness of mine. So I ask for another suggestion as there are a lot of choices and she said tater tots. I saw a picture of Mac and cheese and said that looks good. My food was fairly fast out. Everything was like lava hot. The meatloaf was fairly good. It had flavor and wasn't just meat and onion. The fried squash oh my goodness!!! They need to let them rest a little longer as they were a little too oily at the bottom of the bowl. The Mac and cheese, which typically I am not a fan of, was pretty good. It was creamy, and super cheesy. My biggest complaint would be the service. Very, very friendly. However after my food arrived I didn't see anyone until I was done eating. read more

A great southern breakfast experience! The wait staff is amazing and attentive, the food is delicious, and the prices are incredibly affordable. What more could you ask for? Not to mention the biscuits that are some of the best biscuits you can find. They have a lot of good omelette choices which is usually my option to go with. The Mediterranean omelet is a unique omelette with gyro meat. It is absolutely delicious and worth a try. The blueberry pancakes are not stuffed or anything but they don't seem to matter to my wife. There are also some non breakfast varieties options for you if you choose that are all reasonable as well at around $7+ range...Some of the them are a bit plain bit for the price are really good. I desperately wish there was a veggie burger or other good vegan options. There's vegetable soup,pasta and one salad (which no right person would eat for their whole dinner) but other than that the menu is just a tilde wave of meat,cheese and eggs. It seemed to be racist. we saw the waitress being so nice and kind to everyone besides us. there were not even a lot of people there just about 3-4 tables. and our waitress was just so neglectful. she made sure the table next to us was okay and very well taken care of. she checked up on them 4 times four times. my mom didn't even get a spoon to go with her grits. she didn't ask us for ANYTHING. didn't give us any napkins or asked us how the food was or anything. this was not polite what so over and i am from the north where people aren't used to southern hospitality but even i knew that the waitress was being rude. it's worse knowing that we were the only people of color there. and our table was the only one not taken care of. read more

WORST customer service ever! Waitress are sweet but the owner is the nastiest manager/owner I've ever met. We ordered breakfast and tables that came after us were already getting their dinner orders. I then received only a waffle and sat for another ten mins before asking about our food. At that point Lewan (owner) told us that ticket was just put in, after I explained the course of events he stated "well, I don't keep up with time". And if I "just want free food I need to sit back down and wait". When we finally start to get out food it is 45 mins after ordering and we are still missing parts. The people who came in after us are done. He then personally brings out a waffle and states "since our customer service isn't good enough for you, this will be the last time we serve you". WHAT?! The customers behind us were outraged and stated they'd never heard a manager talk to customers that way. The waitress even came to the table while he was still there and apologized at said it was her fault. However he continued to hover over us and tell us "you have your food now leave". This is a brand new location for Cagney's in Winston. The building was formerly the Old Orchard Restaurant. They have very nicely up fitted the restaurant with new decor and built a new eating bar immediately in front across from the entrance door. As far as the food, both my dining partner and I had a less than positive experience. I ordered a pan fried pork tenderloin lunch plate with mash potatoes/gravy and Lima beans with a side piece of cornbread. The tenderloin was excellent but the mashed potatoes and gravy were spiced with heavy garlic and heavy chives and the gravy was powdery tasting. And I love garlic/chive baked potatoes- but not these mashed potatoes. The cornbread was baked and then deep fried and as hard as a hockey puck. It's been over 7 hours since I ate and I can still taste the garlic chive potatoes and not in a good way. Lima beans were ok. Friend ordered a hamburger and said it was good quality meat but cold and not prepared as ordered, (they forgot the tomato and mustard and by the time the server brought these items, the fries and burger were cold). The server was very nice but needs more training. I believe if a person sticks with breakfast for right now, they should be ok. I actually stretched to give this meal 3 stars and will update when I return again. And I will return because the restaurant is only 1-2 weeks old. read more

Broiled trout was very good and flavored well. A lot of restaurants don't even bother flavoring broiled fish. The chicken souvlaki was good and cheap. The Greek salad was also great with a lot of feta cheese. We had banana pudding cake that was delicious. Great service from Wendy. Yeah. So. i'm never coming back. Hubby comes here often on his way to work on days when I'm off but today we went together for Sunday breakfast. I happen to be a Christian but vehemently boycott businesses that shove any religion, including Christianity, down my throat. They had some horrible(God-awful, no pun intended, in fact) "jesus music" BLARING. Like you-could-probably-hear-it-in-Clemmons blaring. All by itself, this is enough to keep me away. Neverthless, it was combined with a snotty waitress with pink braces and bland food with slow service. I didn't expect a culinary delight, but this place falls flat on a lot of levels. I know that horrid music probably appeals to a lot of their clientele and that those people outweigh my $6 breakfast (which earned it the 2 stars), but there is nothing else redeeming about this place and I can't imagine giving them one more red cent for any reason. The building was formerly the Olde Orchard Diner which we loved. Cagney's is only Greek-owned restaurants in the Old Salisbury Rd area. It is one of six Cagney's. I had heard mixed reviews about some of the other Cagney's Restaurant's. I wasn't disappointed with Cagney's and quite impressed. They have very nice restaurant with new decor and built a new eating bar immediately in front across from the entrance door where the hot bar and ice cream bin and cash register once was at Olde Orchard. Personally, it is in my top-five favorites for tasty, filling food at a good price for - breakfast, lunch or dinner - with a wide variety of types and styles of entrees. Others obviously agree because the restaurant has been busy since opening. My Daddy always told me that if you see the parking lot full you know its a good place to eat. Well he was right. I have never rode by there and seen the parking lot not full. I really like that they are open Monday-Saturday 6am-9pm-Sunday 7am-2pm. We have tried Country Style Steak, Beef Tips and Rice, Baked Spaghetti, Flounder. I was totally surprised to see so much variety of foods and daily specials and they serve breakfast all day long. They also have a Senior Citizen & Little Leaguers Menu. Service was Prompt and friendly. Absolutely Kid Friendly. Vegetarian Friendly. We have been three times in the last 2 weeks. One of my favorite breakfast spots! It's always busy but I've never had to wait for a table. The wait staff is great and attentive. I always order biscuits and gravy, and I've yet to be disappointed.
