BayFront Restaurant is overlooking the water of Eureka Channel between Humboldt Bay and Arcata Bay. It is an understated restaurant that let's the outdoors "decorate" the indoors by having banks of windows to bring in sunshine and views of all the boats and activity going on outside. The luncheon menu had items from pasta to sushi. I wanted seafood so started with a cup of very good clam chowder followed by a Soft Shell Crab Burger. The whole soft shell crab (including claws) was dipped in a nice, light tempura batter and served atop a pillowy soft bun with avocado slices and a dollop of spicy aioli. Hubby had clam chowder and a Parma Proscuitto sandwich with tomato, lettuce, mozzarella and pesto. I came to visit my sister in eureka, and she took us here for dinner. We had a party of 12 with reservations. This place was amazing, ocean views. Service is terrible. We saw this on yelp, and thought it would be good. Maybe it is, but we stood at the front for 10 min while all the wait staff ignored us. Then we were told it would be a 20 min wait. There were at least 10 empty tables, it was the oddest thing I've ever seen. We walked to Cafe Waterfront and was seated in the window and had a glass of wine in less than 3 minutes. There were many more in this place, and even tho busy were excellent. Contrary to what a friend says (How can you have Sushi and Italian under one roof!? Picky PIcky!) this place was pretty good. Our first visit, a few weeks ago, was pretty decent. I had Nigiri and Hamachi and Eel. Very mouth watering good. Super Fresh too. Very well prepared and tasty. Hubby had Tempura, he can't do Sushi. I usually love eating here. This last visit tonight made me second guess returning. First thing I noticed after seating was that there were no chopsticks with the cloth napkins on the tables. And I didn't get any sticks until my sushi came out, even after I ordered fried calamari and REQUESTED chopsticks! I ATE FRIED CALAMARI WITH MY FREAKING FINGERS! I don't know if they aren't supplying all of the tables with sticks to save money or something but it was ridiculous not having at least cheap disposable eating utensils... This restaurant is a favorite for a nice lunch or dinner. You can have a regular meal and choose from a ton of different types of food or opt to go do Teppanyaki where the cook on the open grill in front of you and that is delicious. We came for lunch today and had sushi as well as miso soup. Everything was delicious. We had the Lobster Roll off the Chef's Rolls portion of the menu. I had a couple Golden Dragon Rolls with cream cheese and it was a ton of food, we couldn't finish it all. We had a great waitress and it's nice to have a view of the boats coming in and out of the bay while you eat. Their menu has like 3 different types of food, even including Italian so guaranteed someone would find something they like to eat, even if they're picky. This place gets 4 stars! My boyfriend and I always come here for the sushi! It's our go to sushi place here in Humboldt county. The prices a reasonable and the food is fresh also they have a wide selection of food. Our favorite roll to get her is the Volcano roll on the special roll menu. It's delicious! The service isn't always the best it can be slow at times even when the restaurant isn't busy which I find strange because I am also a server so I know how I treat my guest so I expect the same from them. If the service was a little better I would give this place 5 stars. read more

So on the recommendation of a friend... we decided to have dinner here to end our weekend getaway. What can I say... the food was flavorless. My wife had the spicy teriyaki chicken which had no teriyaki only spicy le choy sauce. Chicken had no flavor and the rice was crunchy. I had the spaghetti with beef ragú. More like pasta with tomato water with bits and pieces of meat and large chunks of carrots, celery and onions. Needless to say... we won't be trying this place again. read more

First of all I would like to say is service is terrible, the staff is rude it took forever to get our seats, we weren't even greeted when we first entered. Now the food the chefs at the tempiyaki need to add some variety to their sauces, some of the sushi tasted like cardboard I would actually eat actual cardboard instead of that stuff they made, I told the chef I wanted my steak medium rare and he gave it to me well done, the chicken had a terrible taste. My family went to Tempenyaki a few weeks ago for my son's birthday. It was a surprise, that was going to end a pretty wonderful day. Or, rather we tried to go to tempenyaki. I had called and made reservations the week before. When I called the woman on the phone asked if it was for a special occasion. I told her it was for my son's birthday. She assured me she would put it down in the reservation book. I had her read back the date, time, etc. before hanging up to double check the information. When we got there, we found out there was no reservation. No one had written anything down. They even brought out the reservation book to show me that they didn't know how to write a reservation down and do their job. My son was pretty upset. They offered us a table in the restaurant to have some of their shitty dry sushi instead. We declined and left. Thankfully, Cafe Waterfront (across the srreet) was able to fit us in. We had a wonderful meal there with a very attentive waiter that knew how to do his job. They even brought out cake (for free) for my son. read more

I ordered a volcano roll and I got it's fucked up cousin from the south. It was ok just not what I wanted. I was visiting family on the North Coast and craving sushi. Unfortunately, Kyoto was closed, it being Sunday at noon. I had dined in the past at the old Cin Cin inside the Ritz and had enjoyed myself. However, I was nervous to try the new Bayfront location as it was almost completely empty. The desire for sushi outweighed my nerves and I am happy that was the outcome! The location is gorgeous: I loved looking at the boats and waterfowl from my window-side table. Service was friendly and attentive. The sushi was fresh and excellent. The white wine was from Mendocino and delicious. I will definitely come again to enjoy delicious sushi with a gorgeous view. (Its only lost star was for the tea, which they butchered by putting about ten times as many leaves as were needed. A Japanese restaurant should have its tea sorted.) read more

We came here for dinner after an afternoon of hiking in the Redwood State & National Parks, so were super hungry and ready for some sushi goodness. The food lived up to our hopes for deliciousness, but the service was pretty bad. It seemed that they were understaffed and overwhelmed with 4th of July crowds, since the fireworks show was about to begin off the boardwalk by the restaurant. So not really all our server's fault, but it would have been nice if she'd come by our table to at least apologize and explain about the wait and try to refill our drinks every so often. Oh well. The food was still amazing, and it was great to sit by the window and watch the fireworks from the warm indoors. Bayfront probably has the worst service of any restaurant in Eureak. I just want people to know what they are expecting when they go. While my girlfriend and I have gone there multiple times, it was mostly out of familiarity. We are OVER it. Frequently we wait for 15 + minutes when there are few other people in the restaurant. They charged 10$ for walking a cake that we already bought they didn't even offer to serve it. All they did is put the candles in it and lit it. Had lunch on a sunny Saturday. Our server was friendly and helpful. Menu is pretty extensive. Atmosphere is very nice although not sure why we were put at a table over in a corner and not near a window that actually has a view of the bay. I know, we could have asked to move but didn't think of it. I also didn't know there was a place for outdoor dining until we were on our way out. That would have been lovely on such a beautiful day. Husband had a nice looking sushi. It was a big pile of food. He said it was good. I had a disappointing grilled chicken sandwich. Usually the chicken on a sandwich like this is anywhere from a whole breast to maybe a half slice of the breast. This was a slice almost paper thin. I felt like my sandwich was really lacking in flavor and substance. It came with salad. House dressing was a ginger something or other and it was weird and thick. The Miso was super salty but I know that's pretty normal. It just seemed saltier than most. Decent price for my sandwich soup and salad. I'd certainly give them another try. We always enjoyed CinCin and the Ritz when this place was two restaurants **update 6-5-2015 Been back for lunch several times and have enjoyed many delicious sushi plates. (For the teppanyaki) A lot of waiting, total about hour and a half from the reservation time. Don't get me wrong, the food was pretty good. I loved the fried rice with the golden miso sauce! And you definitely get a lot of food, equivalent to what you pay. Everything was pretty tasty. My cousins felt it was a little heavy on the pepper. But the vegetables, shrimp, salad and miso were filling on their own. They come with your dish. I ordered a split salmon with my mom. It was too much and we took a lot home by the time we got it since there was so much food. The time really killed it though. And it is very cramped. Maybe just our timing with the arts and jazz festivals going on. read more

Because of covid we always prefer to do curbside pickup and when we called to place an order the woman on the phone was really rude sounded annoyed and irritated that we were calling in.. she reluctantly took our order and the end of it told us that she wasn't even supposed to be taking to go orders and that it was dining in only which is really weird what kind of food place doesn't do to go orders?! Especially during covid like what the heck people get it together and get with the Times isn't it supposed to be unsafe to do indoor dining anyways? We were told the order would take 50 minutes as well which is ridiculous for a to go and they weren't even busy... we sat outside and my husband decided to go in earlier to just check and see if it was ready and it was ready earlier got done in half an hour but they weren't going to call us and tell us that but just would have had us wait for 50 minutes in our car for the food that was getting cold and already made. Yikes... I was unimpressed with the service but the food is always good but the food isn't everything these days a little bit of kindness and caring towards customers during hard times goes a long ways I surely hope my review can guide the owner or manager into discussing with the waitresses and hostesses how important it is to have a positive and caring attitude at such an upscale establishment. If you ask an elementary school kid what restaurant they would open up, they would probably think up a concept similar to Bayfront. A moderately upscale place that can be considered fine dining. They have a Japanese and Italian menu, a Tepenyaki area, and a sushi bar. I ordered 2 sushi rolls edemame and a miso soup. The food was decent, although the fish tasted a bit rubbery. My friend ordered the teriyaki chicken which came with the equivalent of a whole chicken in a tasteless sauce and a scoop of white rice. You'd think they'd cut back on the chicken potion and throw in a vegetable or something. There's a lot of potential, especially with the location right on the Bayfront, however I wouldn't go back in its current standing. read more

We called in to order Take our first off the lady was extremely RUDE. I understand we are going thru a pandemic but that's isn't any reason to be rude. First she told us that it will be a hour wait which was ok.
