I was pleasantly surprised with this place. A friend out on the island invited me to try this place. She's been here a few times but it was restaurant week and so why not! I ordered off of the restaurant week menu muscles for an appetizer, swordfish for my main dish and a GF flourless chocolate cake. Shocked at how well everything was seasoned and paired together, cooked to perfection. The food came out really quickly which usually is good but it was untimed so we were a little rushed. 2 exceptions for the less than 5 stars. 1- some of my muscles were fishy which well we know what that means, spit it out or you'll pay for it for a few days. So no thanks, And 2- when I was asked if I'd like another glass of wine I wanted it when I finished the one I was drinking which didn't happen he brought it right away. I went here for my birthday with high expectations because this place was recommended by a friend. It did not fully meet my expectations and it was a disappointing because we were placed at a table right by the front door which made us very cold. The food was okay but could have been better. We were placed at a different table by the hostess after requesting but our waitress was not as attentive to us. We had to wait extra long for our food while other people were served immediately and it took forever for us to get our check when we were finally done eating. My girlfriends also let the waitress know that it was my birthday because they saw that our same waitress gave a dessert to another birthday party with a candle thinking we would get the same thing but that was not the case. The ambience was cute but other than that it just felt like endless waiting to be attended to. read more

We had a great experience here tonight. Came for happy hour and sat at the bar. The place is beautiful. Have not been here since it had been renovated and taken over was surprised that it was so empty. Our bartender Alex was super friendly and despite being new was very knowledgeable. The bar menu had discounted food and drinks for happy hour. $1.50 oysters?! Yes please!! Delicious!! We also got the grilled oysters with chorizo and sofrito butter equally amazing. Then we got the poke tuna tacos and spinach dip. The spin dip was flavorful with a little kick to it and I just wish there were more tuna tacos cause they were bomb!! The menu changes relatively often, which is always fun; the seafood is consistently and noticeably fresh, and the drinks are exciting and unique. Roaches!! As we are waiting for our check, a roach climbs out from the bar and right onto my wallet. We told the bartender and what i thought was a manager(counting money). Bayberry is a gem! The happy hour prices and meals are so good and the drinks are delicious! The manager, Laura is top tier! Not only is she gorgeous but she's so sweet and super informative! Honestly, nothing went wrong and was such a pleasant experience! We decided to host a surprise baby shower and it was for 19 people. It was the perfect place for somewhere small and intimate. They do have space for much larger parties. If you have a smalller group, they have you up front and have some partitions to separate you from the other parties. Honestly, you won't even care or know that they are happening! We had brunch from 11-2. We had some pastries to start off, they were fresh and delicious. We had to pick from a larger catering menu, they are a part of lessings, and we got 4 different options. There was also a choice of mixed berries, seasonal gelato, and unlimited mimosas and mocktails. I loved that there was a menu for people to look at and that it said "Welcome Baby". Melissa is the catering contact and honestly made things so so seamless. She even has additional contacts for a balloon arch and I am sure other places if you were to ask. Our hostess for the morning was super attentive and made it so so easy for us. Bayberry is a beautiful restaurant that has an elevated look & feel. The space is huge with plenty of tables and booths, as well as one of the largest bars I've seen in the area. On the opposite side of the main dinning room, they have even more seating, this area can also be used for private parties as it can be sectioned off from where we were. Bayberry also has an outdoor patio with a gas fire pit. Once the summer passes, I'd love to have a drink out there. They have a great menu with plenty of different options to choose from. Our waitress was Alex, she was super attentive & had great suggestions. It was also a lovely surprise to see one of our favorite waitresses from another restaurant who is now working here, Brittney. She also pointed us in the right direction with some of her favorites. The GM Laura introduced herself, and wanted to know how everything was. She was super friendly and wanted feedback to help ensure a bright future for Bayberry. We started with the Peking Duck tacos. They were packed with flavor from the mango salsa. We also tried the Parker house bread which is cooked to order, was soft and warm with an onion butter spread. For dinner, I had the Steak Frites which came with broccolini and fries. This was very good. My fiancé had the Tuna Poke Bowl, which she said is the best ones she's had. Her favorite part to set this bowl apart from others, is that this one had noodles instead of rice. For dessert we had the Tres Leche, which came with a ton of fresh fruit. We also wanted to try the Blueberry Crumb Gelato. Both of these were delicious. Nice vibes! Went into the restaurant and did not expect the level of decor and elegance of the bar. The bartenders were all dressed nicely and interacting with patrons and the bar was full...good sign of what's to come for the meal so I thought. Once seated the waitress was extremely nice and polite and looked into allergies for certain dishes which was very much appreciated. As far as the food, the Caesar salad was sort of an interesting flavor and was lacking something...really not much to it. Shrimp cocktail- basic. Overall dinner meals were average. The biggest problem was the table kept getting wet and only after our meal was over did the waitress tell us it was from the leaking air conditioner vent above our table. Discussing, sure enough we all looked up and there was a slow leek over the table ( over two meals and two drinks the whole time we were there. The acting manager came over at our request and offered to move us to another table.. WE WERE DONE EATING... really? We had to suggest that at least one meal be taken off the bill, which they did. My point it fix your air conditioning vents before someone gets sick and don't sit any of your customers at that table until the leek is fixed. Lastly the restaurant was practically empty so why sit us at a table with a gross leaky vent. read more

Updating review - We have been to the restaurant 5 or 6 times over the last few months. We like that the doors open to the street, but disliked the smokers hanging out nearby. The smell was strong. Disappointed in the menu update and removal of the only vegetarian/with vegetable main dish (artichoke). Not sure why they are so resistant to adding a vegetarian burger option as well. Why not add a primavera or something with fresh veggies? The service was poor (forgot about us and didn't put the ticket in the kitchen) but the manager bought a round of drinks because of this which was appreciated. Formerly Maxwells, I was surprised how they really took the classic bones of the old restaurant to a modern, classy upscale feel. They still have the fireplace which is so nice. Bartenders and servers are dressed really well! Great food choices and everything comes out delicious! Highly recommend the tuna tacos and the duck tacos. One thing that's a little upsetting is the happy hour special for these really isn't a deal at all - for example the tacos are on the happy hour menu for 25% off, but they give you one less taco than it usually comes with so essentially they are the ones making out on the deal. I'm also not a big fan of the cocktail menu as I typically like more classic mixtures, but I can appreciate that they are trying to be different. Went today for Mother's Day, was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I am fine with waiting but not 1 hour for appetizers and one of my appetizers not coming till I was done with my DINNER. Then we waited another hour for our dinner plates. Yes it is a holiday sure but the restaurant was not busy at all. To top it off, food came out cold or mildly warm. One of the soups we got was burnt. We kept our food because we were beyond hungry but it was just disappointing. The staff didn't seem to understand or care of all the issues we mentioned. When the one app came after dinner we sent it back and the waiter seemed unhappy about that but why would I want it after the fact. I would not recommend this restaurant, their kitchen seems to not do well and probably lets food sit out till it gets cold. Our cups were also dirty and has a musty smell to them. Upon walking in we couldn't even hear ourselves and as 2 people were sat next to the end of the bar by the service station... this place needs some acoustics management, PRONTO!! While the place is beautiful, the sounds of everyone's conversations, from loud, drunken bar patrons, to families can be heard throughout... I had to yell to hubby and ask what he was having... If you want quiet, this place isn't it!! The food, however was perfect, and delicious!! The bus boy was more on it then our server, but she was also running both sides of the bar tables... so who ever set up that section of seating should be questioned? When you walk into the Bayberry which is a Lessings owned restaurant, notice the light & dark teal decor & the lovely artwork , prints & photographs on the walls. The food is prepared with attention to detail in the usual excellent manner associated with a Lessings family owned restaurant! The menu does have mostly seafood for lunch & dinner, but my husband said that their lunch menu's Crispy chicken sandwich was superb! I love going there for dinner as well as I am a seafood lover! The large bar does separate the restaurant down the middle, and the left side of the restaurant does tend to be a more quiet area to sit in than the right side when you walk into the restaurant. There is free parking in the back of the place & free parking on the street in front as well. Their Sunday brunch is terrific! read more

Amazing night at the beautiful Bayberry. From the moment we walked in this place was rocking. Love to see it. Food and service were amazing. Laura the GM and Chef Morgan who both came over to say hello have this place running like a well oiled machine. Our server checked on us throughout out meal. Water and drinks were always filled, dirty plates were cleaned after each course. Food was insane. We started with seafood tower, Spin dip, mushroom crustini and Caesar salad. All phenomenal. Dinner we had the swordfish, salmon paella, seafood pasta special which was indeed special and the scallops. Martinis and wine were great. Some errands spontaneously brought us to bayberry and thank goodness(so we thought) cause we were hungry. I had been here before for drinks which were enjoyable but the service wasn't great. But chalked it up to a fluke. Today it was a late lunch and still disappointed but in a different way. We sat at the bar to watch the game. The two bartenders that served us were both nice and did a fine job. Again the drinks were good. We got one of the zero proof and it was very well made. The food was subpar. We got yellowtail ceviche to start. That was pretty good. I liked the greens it was topped with. It wasn't really giving ceviche in the traditional sense though so don't expect that but non the less we enjoyed it. Our mains took a really long time to come out. Apparently there was a big group but we didn't see anything. I got the shrimp and crab stack. It was giving low quality tinned seafood with an unnecessary amount of tomatoes seemingly to make up for it. We also got the steak frites. The steak was over cooked. The frites look like someone just threw them on the plate and they were kinda cold. The broccolini was cooked well but lacked seasoning. Overall unsatisfying. I wouldn't bother to go again but if you're planning to go I would say skip the food and stick with the cocktails. read more

This was our first time at Bayberry in Islip, and we had our Thanksgiving Day dinner there this evening. The buffet was FABULOUS! There were plenty of choices for the whole family...and not too many that made what to choose overwhelming. Wait staff were very attentive and always seem to appear exactly when needed--otherwise they seem to be hiding in shadows. Also, parking was easy and the atmosphere was spectacular. I don't think our Thanksgiving Day dinner could have been any better! Thank you to the Bayberry manager, Laura and the amazing staff! We will definitely go back for a regular evening. read more

I came here about a month after their opening with my family who is very picky with restaurants as they are in the restaurant business - everyone loved it. The drink menu is expansive and I wanted to try all the cocktails. Standouts were the Mint Vimlet cooler - super refreshing and wonderfully balanced. Same with the Paloma but with a spicy smokey kick. For appetizers we had the chickpea fries and they were such a great texture with an amazing tangy aioli sauce. The oysters were fresh and had all the fixings, and the bread with caramelized onion butter were perfection - Such a great start to the meal. Our mains were the lobster roll, Caesar salad, and tuna poke bowl. All very high quality, fresh, and satisfying in their own right but the real stars or the night were the desserts. Can't speak more highly of the Tres Leches cake which was recommended to us - perfectly balanced sweet, creamy, fruity. The profiteroles were a crowd pleaser as well. The atmosphere is modern and sophisticated while remaining very casual, we came on a Wednesday night and there were people just watching the TVs at the bar and people having nice meals throughout the dining room, a comfortable space for both settings. Honestly wasn't wowed by this place. I would prefer having maxwells back. The decor was a weird vibe like trying to be trendy with maybe a nautical touch but I feel like didn't really hit it. The menu is heavy on the seafood so prob a good option if that's your thing. My friends and I split the chickpea fries-they were decent and came with a semi spicy harissa sauce. I opted for a Diet Coke because I don't drink much but the $4 soda was flat. I like that they offer half size portions of the pasta dishes so I went with the lemon pasta and the cacio e Pepe-honestly they were pretty big portions for a halfsie but the taste was def lacking. Neither one had flavor at all. I got the affogato for dessert and that was tasty but overall the price point to flavor ratio is not there but I would be willing to go back to try other options and would be nice if they offered specials too.
